She was actually still a bad mother at the very end. That “you’re welcome” is the worst thing she could have said to them, she gaslit them one last time.
Implying she's actually dead, and didn't just fake her own death to hide from war crime charges in Etherian Guatemala with all the magic she stole from the heart.
Can I just say I love how they handled abuse by a parental figure in this show. It's so complex like they know she's wrong but they can't help but trust her even when shadoweaver has no concern for them. And at the end, her death elicits tears despite the fact that it's not enough to make up for all the hurt she caused. It's a little messed up but it feels so real.
She was their only maternal figure, so it makes lots of sense they cried at the end. I've heard most of us are naturally programmed to love our parents no matter what and I have seen such behavior in some of my friends, whose parents are the very definition of a trainwreck.
Lotta people don't understand that she loves Catra and Adora. She sees Micah and herself in the two, and doesn't want them to end up dead (Micah) or worse (her). Yes, a lot her actions are inexcusable, but she does love them, dearly even. Being completely honest, she's what Catra was turning into. She's the monster that she was trying to stop the two from becoming, and seeing Catra get so close to falling inspired her sacrifice.
@@maddoxio Please don't insult me and all other decent parents out there, no parent who actually loves their child would ever choose what shadowweaver did in the failsafe. And I'm not even the brave or heroic type, it's just that outliving my child is the only thing that could ever be worse than death, as I'm sure any decent parent would agree.
@@wolffianduck I'm not insulting anyone, I'm just saying that in her own twisted, fucked up way, she's giving Catra and Adora an out. Shadow Weaver was a monster, but this was the last bit of her humanity giving the girls a chance to move on and become better than her. Her saying "You're welcome" is also just the monster she became speaking. I genuinely believe that Shadow Weaver did love them, in her own horrible way. She's an interesting and irredeemable character.
Hey i know a majority of this fandom is in their teens if you read this and have a parent like this I promise you it'll get better. It's a long road of undoing years of abuse but I promise it gets better.
@@heylol3909 Normally abusers do that when you try to call them out on their shit. Its a form of gas lighting. I can relate my mother is like that as well. It took me awhile but i finally had the ability to move out of my home and move in with my girlfriend and slowly separate myself from my family. I'm almost 24 now and am still undoing years of abuse and it's hard but it's possible. I hope one day you can find peace and leave if thats what you end up deciding to do. Make sure you have people who support you it helps a lot.
I really love Shadow Weaver as a character. She's not one-dimensional but nothing will erase the hurt she caused so many. She was a person with good parts and bad, just like all the other characters. One of my favorite things about her is the way she took it upon herself to teach Glimmer magic because I think she felt that she owed it to Micah. She failed him and so when she learned Glimmer was his daughter, she knew Glimmer could be an amazing sorcerer too.
Thats what i think ppl dont see, shadow weaver may be abusive and manipulative, but she can ave a heart towards childs, licke when she took adora as a baby, i think shadow was more savage to catra cuz she was very independent compared to adora wich exlains her line "you ave to whatch her adora, make sure this incident doesnt happen again", shadow weaver never wanted to fail micah, and she wanted to fix her error by teaching magic to glimmer, licke we say " inside a demon, an angel hides"
@@sakumon16 and it sounded genuinely sincere … the idea of Shadow Weaver, the scariest lady in the show, liking daisies … is just very cute and just makes me smile 😊😊😊
@@sakumon16 that’s the thing: I don’t think she’s a full-fledged bad guy, honestly she reminds me of a more violent Entrapta. Hear me out: how many times did Entrapta endanger everyone around her, hell even the whole PLANET solely because she’s all about her work? I see Shadow Weaver the same way: she’s all about her craft *and* was willing to do what needed to be done at the time. I am NOT excusing her abuse of Catra (“see myself in you” my ass lady), but a big part of the show is opposites: the Horde and the Alliance, Catra and She-ra, Hordak and Hordak Prime … well for me Shadow Weaver and Entrapta are one of the best comparisons: both are willing to sacrifice for their work but because Entrapta has _comparatively_ better people skills she’s much more easily forgiven (also I refuse to believe her robots NEVER unalived someone when one of her servants tried to bring her food)
@@randomdreamer5429 I'd say she "just" is on par with Hordak. Which isn't to say much, since he is a war criminal who regularly abused Catra when she was his second in command, and might have done the same to Shadow Weaver. People are just more willing to forgive Hordak because he gets to share his vulnerabilities with Entrapta and because Shadow Weaver's evil is closer to the spotlight, as Adora, Catra and Glimmer are the main viewpoint characters.
Shadow Weaver has the best quotes. Change my mind. (She’s my fave character. Her roasts are are awesome and I love the way she starts out evil, but then we find out that there’s more to her character then just “I hate Catra.”)
Angelina The Dragon! I couldn’t agree more! She’s my favourite character too. And I think that people hate her mostly because they are blinded by their love for Catra, who Shadow Weaver abused. But there is way more to SW than that! Nobody should look at characters and judge them by their past actions, but they should rather look at how they are improving - SW helped The Rebellion and even saved the main characters! How can anyone hate Shadow Weaver, in my opinion she’s one of the best written and badass characters in the entire show
She's a monster, and she has some of the most extreme lines in the show. Remember how she needed the helo of the rebellion when she was about to die? How does she adress Queen Angela? She reminds her that she tortured her daughter and refuses to call her majesty. Instead she refers to Angela as "The mother of the princess". She is like a more vile Olenna Tyrell 🥀
Weri she is a really well written character but the show runner (aka Noelle) herself said that she was not reedemed she was simply a bad person and she did not only abuse Catra. She abused Micah, Adora, Glimmer and Castaspella. So, it is pretty normal for everyone to hate her character and that (to me) also shows how great she is written
Okay I was watching this and falling asleep because it's like 3 in the morning and @ 4:25 Scorpia yells "Emily!" (My name) And that scared me so much I almost threw my phone.
klan_bicycle ahahaha that is so true tho! There should be a vid called relatable Shadow Weaver moments. I feel like- there would be quite a few. Also a roasts video would be cool.
Not really. There isn’t really much distinction between Light Spinner and Shadow Weaver. As Light Spinner she was already power hungry and manipulating children for her own purposes.
I really like her last line. It suits her character. it's prideful and puts a stain on her 'selfless sacrifice'. Shadow weaver didn't redeem herself. She did a good thing in the end, but she's still shadow weaver. It fits perfectly and makes her sacrifice feel much more believable to me.
I still cant wrap my mind around how my friend thinks she was nice and loved Catra as if she didn't spend their whole life abusing them. She was like a decent Mom for like 30 seconds.
It’s important to point out that shadowweavers last line was “you’re welcome” and not “ I love you Catra, or I’m proud of you adora” she always makes it about her in the end.
I love in the scene when Glimmer and Bow ask for her help, Shadow Weaver is basically is only talking to Glimmer the whole time. She treats Bow like a kind of non-entity and it's not even meant to be sarcastic. She genuinely thinks he isn't worthy of attention. "I suppose *you* can come" This actually says a lot Shadow Weaver's relationship with Catra. SW only has eyes for people who she thinks are talented or special, like Adora and Glimmer. She wants to get her hooks into these kinds of students so that she can leech off their importance. SW only wants a student to succeed so she can get the credit for it due to her "great" teaching. She despises Catra because she just views her, like Bow, as being ordinary and mediocre
I loved the episode when they found out doble trouble was the spy, when they interrogate shadow weaver abt where she was se goes like "I was in the middle of a ritual...." and glimmer goes like "you where having a tea party?"
Nobody: litarally nobody: not even glimmer: not even double trouble: not even angella: not even castaspella: not even micah: not even bow: catra: exists besides shadow weaver shadow weaver: who tf,s garbage is this?
A big part of Catra's and Adora's character development was breaking the cycle of abuse by not becoming what Shadow Weaver raised them to be. Catra was raised to be Machiavellian. Adora was raised to be self-sacrificial. Both in some form were raised to be perfectionistic. Both of them confronted their upbringing and worked towards overcoming their trauma. Shadow Weaver on the other hand chose to take the ultimate act of avoidance of her mistakes. Combining both a complete lack of self worth and a desire to manipulate other's feelings, Shadow Weaver discarded her life as an act intended to be redemption, but wasn't truly redeeming. It's an example of the person she had become over the course of her life and an example of what Adora and Catra avoided.
I’m sorry, but Shadow Weaver is genuinely one of the best characters in the whole show. You can hate a character and still find that character funny as shit, likable as hell, and just overall a good character you love (not, you love to hate them, but love to love them) rather they’re being evil or manipulative or good or anything at the time. Shadow Weaver’s character is so good to me. You hardly see characters like this. Yeah, you see evil and manipulative characters, but they’re not usually done like shadow weaver. These characters are usually done like Belos from the owl house or something. She’s an evil character, who you know for a fact is evil because of what she’s doing, but you still want to call her morally gray or good towards the end of the show. Even I struggle to still call her evil sometimes because she doesn’t even feel evil, she just feels like a character on the show. Once she joins the princesses of course. Instead of being this evil character you gotta fear, she just feels like this grandma who is rich and is condescending and self absorbed without realizing that’s not how average people act, while still handing you like $10 or a piece of candy or something. You can’t tell me this whole compilation was not her just being funny.
Bro I genuinely froze when she used her powers on Catra(both when she was young and older) like... that was genuinely horrifying. That was the most raw scene of child abuse I’ve seen in a show, and it was in a cartoon for gods sake.
Alt Title: "Shadow Weaver being abusive and manipulative for most of the series, but for someone reason, people sidestep her torturing children because of her one heroic act in season five". One act of good does NOT erase all the bad she has done to those who trusted and depended on her. It might prove she had some good left in her, but I'd hardly call that a redemption arc.
If anything I think it was meant to give Catra and Adora closure, just erasing this individual from their lives and they can finally move on. Even when she didn't have authority over them anymore, she still tried to put a wedge between them and put ideas in their heads, she did this in the same season. It's clear that Shadow Weaver never really changed, she did one selfless thing but? That's not enough to rid her of her manipulation and abusive habits like- *That's not how that works.* It's clear she was irredeemable so she's better off dead and being away from the people she hurt, and probably would've continued hurting if she had lived. She was too far gone, it's practically ingrained in her to behave that way. You seen her when she fled the Horde, she never changed then either.
Probably one of the best morally grey characters in any animated show I've watched. She is not outright evil, but she has done stuff that can be considered worse than what most villains in the show did, being the cause for most of the main conflict in the show just by being a bad mother to the main characters. She is so beautifully messed up and twisted. Intelligent, manipulating, but also a slave to her desires for knowledge and power. And just enough of a tiny splinter of maternal love to make it conflicting for her "daughters" to completely despise her.
Big fan of the juxtaposition of Angella and Shadow Weaver’s sacrifices: Angella gives the simple request of “take care of each other”, wanting Adora and the others to do what she believes she failed at doing. Shadow Weaver only utters “you’re welcome”, implying that she still hasn’t let go of her ego and, even in her death, believes she’s doing her kids a favor while still getting the final word. While a sacrifice is inherently selfless, Shadow Weaver was motivated by her selfish intentions while Angella was… y’know, acting like how a good mother should
I dont know about you guys, but Shadow Weaver was the character who kept me hooked in the show. She always seemded to have an goal to achieve while others where running around circles and being passive. Also I feel she was the one pushing the plot forward with Catra. She also seemed to be like an wildcard, you were always on edge when she was with the princess alliance. You never knew what she was up to. But I have theory. I dont believe she worked for Hordak to be on his side, more like using him to get more power and knwoledge. (example being the black garnet) I think she was always looking for the Etherias best intertest, even if her means to achieve it were downright horrible and unethical. She was by far the most interesting character with an beginning and closure. I thought Catra was really interesting too, she was great villain. Her redemption felt too fast and would have needed at least 1 season to make amends for the problems she caused.

@@RenaRain Oh yes. It's a testament to just how horrible a mother she was to them that even her best parental moment is still an abusive statement.
@@timfortune9 Couldn't have said it better myself.
Implying she's actually dead, and didn't just fake her own death to hide from war crime charges in Etherian Guatemala with all the magic she stole from the heart.

LOL I read this as it was happening xd
*bad shadow weaver, bad*
Me and my sister watched it together. At that point, we were both like: “Swift Wind, R.I.P if she finds out-.”
It's a very accurate portrayal
Swift Wind = Yes
Can I just say I love how they handled abuse by a parental figure in this show. It's so complex like they know she's wrong but they can't help but trust her even when shadoweaver has no concern for them. And at the end, her death elicits tears despite the fact that it's not enough to make up for all the hurt she caused. It's a little messed up but it feels so real.
She was their only maternal figure, so it makes lots of sense they cried at the end. I've heard most of us are naturally programmed to love our parents no matter what and I have seen such behavior in some of my friends, whose parents are the very definition of a trainwreck.
Shadow Weaver was a lousy mother but she cared about Adora and Catra in her own way.
I don't care if my child is the only being in existence who can potentially survive a fatal plan to save the world, if I can choose to sacrifice myself over literally risking my child's life, it'll be me no question.
Shadow Weaver is a lot like my mom, and I told her about it, and she got so defensive and offended.

@@LadyLeomon yeah, seeing a bad guy get nicer always cheers me up.

How can anyone hate Shadow Weaver, in my opinion she’s one of the best written and badass characters in the entire show
Weri she’s a very well written bad person...

I love in the scene when Glimmer and Bow ask for her help, Shadow Weaver is basically is only talking to Glimmer the whole time. She treats Bow like a kind of non-entity and it's not even meant to be sarcastic. She genuinely thinks he isn't worthy of attention.
"I suppose *you* can come"
This actually says a lot Shadow Weaver's relationship with Catra.
Bow and catra are kinda mediocre tho.

Alternative Title: YOU being Shadow Weaver's favorite word

Yeah she’s the best🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

No one even wanted a redemption arc.
I know me and my sister didn't want one.

@@ahhh844 Idk some people did from what I've seen.
I mean Catra and Glimmer almost destroyed the universe, the former on purpose purely to spite Adora. Just a bit of context.
That's not enough to rid her of her manipulation and abusive habits like-
*That's not how that works.*
It's clear she was irredeemable so she's better off dead and being away from the people she hurt, and probably would've continued hurting if she had lived.

Big fan of the juxtaposition of Angella and Shadow Weaver’s sacrifices:
Angella gives the simple request of “take care of each other”, wanting Adora and the others to do what she believes she failed at doing.
(example being the black garnet)
I think she was always looking for the Etherias best intertest, even if her means to achieve it were downright horrible and unethical.
She was by far the most interesting character with an beginning and closure.
I thought Catra was really interesting too, she was great villain. Her redemption felt too fast and would have needed at least 1 season to make amends for the problems she caused.
I'm just picturing Zangief telling Shadow Weaver "You are good guy, but that does not make you good guy."
