Tajima-san is very much a forward-thinker. Alongside his Monster Sport operation he owns a multitude of other businesses centering around research and development; nowadays doing a lot of work in electric car technology. He was among the first in Japan to really work on and experiment with aerodynamics. What he was doing then - 20 years ago - reminds me of what the whole time attack scene is in the midst of right now.
I see a few kids down there asking about the Celica's engine but I can't reply. No, it's not a 3S-GTE but it is the race version which is called 503e. Very similar specs but the block is much much beefier and the head is flowed all to hell with twin spark etc. look it up
Because these are racing in an unlimited class so they are no regulations to hold them back. They need as much down force as possible to be competitive in this class. You should see Suzuki's latest entry, even bigger and on the front also.
The top pikes peak cars in the 80s and 90s was the Audi Quattro s1 pikes peak, Peugeot 205,405 t16, Suzuki Escudo, Toyota Celica and Toyota Tacoma. At least those are the ones i know about that was on the top. The most powerfull one must have been the Tacoma with around 900 bhp.
Sorry, but wtf are you talking about? Both cars are tubular chassis, they only share basic shapes with the road going versions. So weight is up in the air, either one could be lighter.
The Tacoma was the next step after Celica i think. The japanese seem to be dominant on pikes peak, well they are good at many motorsports. I would say that the top 3 are Germany, Italy and Japan.
What the fuck are you talking about Danza Entertainment? "Dirt always stuffs up the performance of cars" Both of these cars are purpose built to run on dirt!! And in case you didn't notice this is real life not fucking Gran Turismo!! Much better effort by Rod Millen considering Monster had the backing and dollars from Suzuki!! Both cars are awesome but they are not that much faster than the legend Ari Vatanen from 1988 in the Peugeot 405 T16 !! That is the greatest drive ever on dirt at Pikes Peak in my opinion!! Ari would have smashed 10 min in the red Suzuki Escudo because lets face it Monster is a good driver but he is a hack compared to drivers like Vatanen and Loeb!!
You're joking right? Ari was a badass but Tajima beat his record by 3 seconds, and then Rod Millen beat that record by 40 seconds both in 94. Then no one came close until Tajima in 2007 after paving started. Loeb set his record on a fully paved route too, even though it was wicked fast.
No i am not joking lets compare the two. World Rally Championship : Tajima 19 rallies Vatanen 101 rallies Championships: 0 1 Rally wins: 0 10 Podiums: 0 27 Stage wins: 0 527 Total Points: 4 518 And what do these stats mean Tajima not fit to even polish Vatanen's boots!! Vatanen beat Walter Rohrl's time from the previous year and Rohrl has been voted the greatest rally driver of all time! (Before Loeb even started i think?). So all he could manage was 3sec after 5 years and 2/twin engines! And wrong again about no one coming close except for Millen being under 10:14 for 4 years in a row 1996-1999 all of which were on dirt!
catatonia1 you mentioned that both cars "arent that much faster than Ari." I'm telling you Millen's car was 40 seconds faster. That's all i'm arguing. I think Vatanen was an amazing driver, he's a hero of mine, but he got beat up the hill. Now that Pike's Peak (which i live 5 miles away from) is paved all the old dirt records should be throw out in my opinion, and a new record book should be started. It's a completely new course.
well, actually, he is right. that car could only beat Escudo on rally dirt courses, if they were to race on a racecourse like Laguna Seca, i guarantee there will be a ownage from Escudo. Dirt always stuffs up the performance of cars, and because Escudo is the car with the better acceleration and horsepower, the dirt stuffs it up more. In Gran Turismo games, other rally cars can compete with Escudo on dirt courses, but if you take it to the road... no rally car even comes close to Escudo lol.
*open wheel class* race team: shit. less downforce, less traction 5:28 *adds more spoilers 5:51 * *engine overheat from revving against drag* SHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT 6:01
Has The Celica Ever Challenged The Suzuki Ever Again No And Who Holds The Record On Pikes Peak With Some What Dirt Not All Tarmac Suzuki Sx4 Choke On That Toyota
catatonia1 in 2007 Tajima went 10:01:xx and was the first driver to beat Millen's record in 13 years. Also in 2011 when he broke 10 minutes more than half was paved, only a third wasn't, and the parts that were dirt were the straighter sections. Rod Millen had retired from the Unlimited Class by then too. From 1994 to 2000 Toyota and Rod Millen dominated the mountain, and they even named a street here in Colorado Springs after him.
Suzuki Was The First to Break the Ten Min Barrier So enough of the bull and Toyota has lost billions in the past two years for shitty cars 1.9 billion plus calling me a clown your a Clown! Suzuki The Way Of Life!!!
Came for the Celica and nothing else. One of a kind car.
Toyota is 8 seconds faster then suzuki.im inpressed by the performence by both cars.

Hold on the escudo is powered by a 2.0 litre v6 twin turbo . Same engine that the stock street escudo has but heavily modified 980hp .
Escudo .....hah what a great memories
1995 - x2 4 Cyl Suzuki Engines at 450hp/each
1996 - Twin Turbo 2.0L Suzuki V6 at 900+hp...
I see a few kids down there asking about the Celica's engine but I can't reply. No, it's not a 3S-GTE but it is the race version which is called 503e. Very similar specs but the block is much much beefier and the head is flowed all to hell with twin spark etc. look it up

Monster, the REAL drift Master!
rod millen is a legend,so is the car,i seen the celica run this weekend up his driveway in new zealand still going as good as it did then
I know that it's the same type of engine but the 208 t16 pikes peak sounds like the Escudo !
What is this song and what genre?! It sounds fucking awesome
At 0:10 btw
Machine Escudo - legend!!!
true for sure
why are the spoilers sooooo big
Its 3S GTE and that celica doesn't have one. It has a 2.1L inline-4 of some sort. The the 3S GTE is 2L

MC Taipan escudo made 987hp in '98 I believe, not sure about the others
+Sean Taylor I think it made 981 HP correct me if I'm wrong

two fucking million $ , but when you get it youre OP

SOLO YUNG Millen is the last one to hold the record on the "real" Pike's Peak. Everything after they started adding tarmac should be asterisked.
camarowland4 Couldn't agree more when Monster finally broke 10 min in 2011 half of it was paved!!

catatonia1 13 years in actual fact, Millen's record was broken in 2007 before the 10 minute barrier was broken in 2011.
Suzuki Was The First to Break the Ten Min Barrier So enough of the bull and Toyota has lost billions in the past two years for shitty cars 1.9 billion plus calling me a clown your a Clown! Suzuki The Way Of Life!!!
and it only took half the track being paved to get there! Sazuki is a joke in the car world. get over it.
Suzuki still makes cars?
Yep, still with bike engines in them.
