That is a shocking machine. I think it's a modern version of the Lotus 7. Colin Chapman was doing an amazing job with handling all the way back. I saw very little body roll in the corners, and the car was sprung perfectly for that speed and that track. Really enjoyable to watch - thanks for posting it.

This man has really excellent driving technique. He was observing the movement of the vehicle in front of him and overtaking it safely. This is the skill of an experienced driver! Lightweight, high-output sports cars are prone to nervous behaviour at high speeds, but the driver kept the car stable with excellent braking while maintaining a safe trajectory to avoid such dangerous situations. Even more impressive is the agile and precise way in which the Caterham Seven moves. It's amazing how lightweight it is, which allows it to accelerate to another dimension. And because it's lightweight, there's no need for stiff dampers, so there's no bouncing behaviour and it's very supple. I have rediscovered the beauty of a lightweight sports car.
Very cool car. Well driven and balls to the wall. That Cayman driver was very impressive too. Also impressive was the silver MX5 at the early part of the track.
The poor lad in the old MX5 was driving his socks off, thinking "I'm ahead of the Caterham, I'm staying ahead of the Caterham, I'm still ahead of the Caterham, I can stay ahead of the Caterham" then the traffic opens a little and BOF!
Yeah, Cayman dude took the carousel like a pro. But man, that ease of acceleration of the Caterham... I wish my car weighed under a ton so it would behave like that.

A caterham 620 is called "620" because it has 620 hp per ton (it actually has 310 hp for 500kg) That is better power to weight ration than even the fastest hyper cars. Which means it really IS ridiculously fast.
@rientsdijkstra4266 a real piece of engineering art but is only for purists. The regular SUV driver can have a heart attack if he has to drive this car just one morning to the job. Clearly is not intended to them, but is fair to say it.

Most racing drivers seem to saw at that wheel like there's 6" of play, but your steering was probably the smoothest/steadiest I've ever seen at such high speed on a track. Very very impressive.

We had one lap following the Apollo Gumpert (ring taxi) which was acting as a sweeper in front of us, now that was an amazingly fast lap but unfortunately it wasn't filmed :-(

Couldnt stop smiling as you were on to try and gain the Cayman!! Just as we all would try :). As you pulled back into the carpark i thought a lap is quite a work-out in your car. Great fun. Its a different story too in your car with the open air/lack of protection. what performance though when you know other cars have spotted you and are staying in their lane. this lap really does the car justice and the caterham-mad father-in-law (probably-sensibly not an owner fortunately ;) ) will love watching it to see to get the full experience. happy lapping buddy.
I have watched a lot of Nurburgring footage, I have watched a lot of stage rally footage, this was the first time I ever got "the willies" from watching onboard camera.
Actually you would be surprised. A Porsche Cayman 718 (the one in the video) and a Caterham 620 are both £50k starting price. Caterham's are surprisingly expensive.
Can see why Caterhams have held lap records for years on race tracks! F.A.S.T! MX 5 was going for it, nice to see what looked like an old MK1? Corsa/Nova GTE on there too :) 🤙🖖🤘👌✌👍👏

My fave so far. I loved the car view, seeing the Cayman taking the corners ahead adds a whole other dimension. The cars all being aware and pulling over. As a motorcyclist I have to say that he was the only one who did not move over, simply miss one corner, move over, and get back on it. Otherwise brilliant.

Pete and I are bikers too! Pete rode his bike over to Germany and so did Tim (the passenger in this lap of the Nordschleife) whilst I towed the Caterham. Unfortunately we were unable to get either of the bikes on the track on this visit to Germany due to fluid spills and track closures... :-(
If I took my bike there I would be admiring the view, looking for a coffee stop, pulling over for a wee, being a total nightmare for others. 😂 it’s an age thing! They do have to keep right , when I was last there we came round a bend to find a biker lying in the middle of track …..it’s a dangerous place 5 mins later 3 guys stoved an e46 m3 and were standing right in the understeer off point , our driver German 2500 laps got out and got them other side of the Armco , doing 140mph in m3 we got overtaken by a gt3 that was itself being overtaken by a corvette zr1 on the gantry straight , it truly is the Wild West
Having seen the number of bikes that come off I'm glad that i didn't take mine on. The surface on the racing line has been worn so smooth, & in the wet it's faster & a lot safer to go round the outside of the bends. This biker did just fine. Tim x
Wow, for a first drive that is nuts! Both in terms of driver skill and the Caterham's performance. You were wizzing past everyone yet the Caterham looked as if it was only stretching its legs to about half of its potential speed.
Was like, this is boring... then realized how wrong I was! Holy shit. When they were chasing down the Porsche my heart was pounding! Porsche driver is a beast.
Lol, these are road tyres on the Nordschleife track as its classed as a public road in Germany (your vehicle has to be road legal to go on it). In the UK we do Track Days at several different circuits and Pete uses racing tyres (slicks) which give even more grip and traction!

Well it is a cayman, arguably a better handling car than a caterham being mid engined.

They do have to keep right , when I was last there we came round a bend to find a biker lying in the middle of track …..it’s a dangerous place 5 mins later 3 guys stoved an e46 m3 and were standing right in the understeer off point , our driver German 2500 laps got out and got them other side of the Armco , doing 140mph in m3 we got overtaken by a gt3 that was itself being overtaken by a corvette zr1 on the gantry straight , it truly is the Wild West
Having seen the number of bikes that come off I'm glad that i didn't take mine on. The surface on the racing line has been worn so smooth, & in the wet it's faster & a lot safer to go round the outside of the bends. This biker did just fine.

Wow, for a first drive that is nuts! Both in terms of driver skill and the Caterham's performance. You were wizzing past everyone yet the Caterham looked as if it was only stretching its legs to about half of its potential speed.

Lol, these are road tyres on the Nordschleife track as its classed as a public road in Germany (your vehicle has to be road legal to go on it). In the UK we do Track Days at several different circuits and Pete uses racing tyres (slicks) which give even more grip and traction!
