In your terms, I guess he died three times in movies. He was killed off-screen by Rain's extermination squad in MK Annihilation. Ouch. Imagine being forgotten that you were killed in a disaster of a movie...
“Bra and panties? Walks sexily, wears a mask, creepy but sexy voice? Wants to have sexual relations? This bitch gonna definitely break my heart” - Stryker or something idk
Monsters all over attacking the city and there’s this chick out and about like it’s no big deal wearing some provocative attire? Yeah, definitely seems off if you think about it.
The thing is, Stryker’s portrayal in MK9 was actually really good imo, Matthew Mercer played him incredibly well and despite his play style being meh and his placement on the tier list of the game being low, it was MK9 that made me finally like his character, he doesn’t need to be more, he IS a cop and he IS a normal dude, that’s what a lot of people like myself like about him
Yeah, I also love characters without powers standing alongside those who do. It doesn't actually make much sense when you get down to it but it's some seriously aspirational stuff. Hawkeye was my favourite Avenger for similar reasons.
Honestly I love Stryker because he’s actually a normal person stuck in a crazy place. And I hope Stryker does return as one of the revenants cause his design would be super cool
@Diablo3364 actually I think a back story as boring and mundane as Stryker's is neat because it's not over the top and contrast with the others. When everyone is a supernatural Ninja, Soldier, Monk, Diety, Monster, Etc. A more down to earth character tends to stand out.
@@alnu8355dude just say that you are part of the "blue life matters" movement already. Jokes aside compared with the original roster striker feels a bit out of place for me.
@@Nightmare704RY I'm ACAB in real life, but I loved Stryker in MK3. I love his silly backwards hat, I love that he's just a normal dude in a tournament where even other normal looking people have magic, and I love that they never felt the need to make him as competent as the actual main characters just because he's a cop.
I'm honestly sad that Stryker has not been a playable character game after MK9. Legit as soon as I remembered this video, I now got a new favorite MK character to add to my list.
I always liked him because he's always been the underdog. Everyone else has something that makes them special, and then there's Stryker with nothing but a few police weapons. He had to make bullets, grenades, and a police baton work against elder gods, movie stars that replace stuntmen and special effects with inherited powers, and everything in between.
Would've been interesting to see what his banter with Kabal would've been if he were in MK11. Assuming that MK11 Kabal is pre-reformation or from a timeline where he just went back to crime, it would've been interesting to see that extra layer of insight into what their relation was like prior to the events of MK9
@@IkeFanBoy64 exactly retcon Kabal is the thing I hate most about mk11 you had a great character who finally redeemed himself tragically get killed but now he’s just always been a bad guy like wtf He could’ve been such a cool character if he was still a good guy I would’ve loved to see his interactions with the other characters people like Johnny and Cassie happy to know he changed sides but people like Sonya and jax being more hostile and less forgiving
I’d actually really like to see Striker make it into MK12, either in the base roster or as DLC. There’s so much potential there that’s just been wasted
@trashoatz6722 I like the idea of having stryker in mk12 along with reptile, ermac, Sareena, smoke, cyrax, sketor takeda and Li Mei what character's do you want in mortal kombat 12 there were other character's that were only a 1 time thing so some of them could be in next mortal kombat game or as a dlc.
Stryker was a great addition, very ground based honest character. Unlike other characters like ancient gods, ninjas, cyborgs, sorcerers and so, he's just a regular police officer stuck in a very dire situation. And managed to pull himself out of it with his tonfa and his gun. An amazing character indeed.
Stryker is actually a great character imo he's the normal guy stuck in the midst of a war between realms he's doing all he can to help out and protect people he's actually probably the most heroic character in the series he's got no special powers but he's there on the front line to save everyone
I always liked Stryker. I like the idea of a normal guy standing with all these wizards and gods and being able to just beat them to a bloody pulp with nothing but police equipment. He was like the badass underdog.
I love how everyone in the comments is standing up for this guy. I always had a soft spot for him too for being the most down to earth fighter on the roster in spite of everyone else around him. Taking the mundane and holding his own against Outrealm’s worst with it.
I always thought stryker was super boring and if he makes it into mk1 all i'm gonna think about is who we could have had instead, with the size of rosters in fighting games there will likely never be a point where there won't be a way cooler character he replaced so seeing him return will likely always make me angry
A little correction to be made: Jax in mk2 is exactly how they wanted Stryker in the game, the only thing changed was his name, and then in MK3 they made a new cop character and made his name Stryker
The main reason I've always loved Stryker was because he basically is the embodiment of Humanity Grit. No matter the odds, no matter all the magic and gods and monsters, he still fights. Human Grit is the main reason I find it so hard to pick anything other than humans in any game that allows different species.
Tbh i'm the oposite. I NEVER could play a Human if i could play a different species. I've want to be something interesting and different. And Humans are for me neither.
@@Acacius1992 That's kinda the point, though. Nobody cares if the big muscle alien can lift a boulder; but, if the fucking human manages to do it, then everyone's like "whoa, how the fuck did he manage that?"
@Orange Soda I get that point. Can't say tho it is realy a selling point for me. Sure its impressive. Still mot change its just a normal human. I honestly like to play especially so I can be something different.
Growing up in Brazil playing UMK3 in locadoras (pretty much spots full of consoles where you paid by the hour to play games) I remember that Stryker was one of the most popular characters: people just loved him for using a baton, grenades and a gun against mages and ninjas and robots. His taser fatality was one of the favorites too.
Stryker absolutely gets carried by his MK9 appearance, but I legitimately like him as a character. I think the fact that he's a normal guy who's in over his head and uses guns and grenades to match the power of stronger characters is kinda cool, and it sort of reminds me of how Batman is just a guy with gadgets. He's not my favorite, but I hope he makes a return to MK someday.
It sucks that they never took the vigilante route with Stryker. He could be a compelling character if in a future game they give us some lore that after a mortal kombat tournament Stryker realized that the realms need him to be more than just a cop. Give him a red hood sort of style.
Yep and its whats makes him uninteresting as well. Man should I play a god of thunder, dead ninja zombie, dude who freezes people, guy with robotic arms or some lame looking dude who escaped from a porno film. When I first played mk3 dudes thought he was supposed to be a security guard.
@@themoviereviewwarriors939 That's one reason I liked using him, because people like talking bad about him. So I got good at using him & it would piss people off when I would beat them with him.
@@themoviereviewwarriors939 more like do i wanna be a god zombie ninja a guy who freezes things a guy with robot arms ir the dude with a rifle uzi and grenades......like you're buggin
I think MK needed a ground level view of the universe, and Stryker provided that. Not every character has magical powers or sci fi tech to battle outworld. If demons fell from the sky and the world came crashing down, there would definitely be normal people stubornly trying fight back despite the odds being heavily against them. I think to myself I took a vow to fight all enemies foreign and domestic, that includes outworld heh. Having the grit and will to face down whatever the universe throws at you whatever you got to fend for yourself even if you die, you died on your feet. That is who Stryker is.
I always liked Stryker, the fact that he’s just a regular guy caught up in an inter-dimensional invasion while doing his job trying to help the military push back the “alien” forces that invaded his home hellbent on killing people. He honestly should’ve survived the event of MK9 and been there helping Sonya, and Johnny beat back Shinnook. And his transition from Cop to Special Forces would’ve been so easy given that in his old MK bio he was ex-military, but him being in the Special Forces would’ve took away from the conflict between Johnny and Sonya which I didn’t like personally but I understood what they were going for with
Stryker has been my favorite character since 3. I loved how ridiculous he looked, and the contrast of his fighting style being completely practical instead of supernatural. That blue and white outfit is iconic to me. While I still liked his character in the later games, I will say I thought the outfit change was a little disappointing. I just loved how goofy he looked and they took that away. At least he got to come back. Even if it was just a few games.
I think Stryker is awesome. He shouldn't get the hate that he gets. People hate him for being a normal human being fighting Gods, Demons, Shokans and Tarkatans. While the same People love Batman and Sonya Blade for the same reason.
You're wrong. Stryker was actually the second one who got killed by Sindel. Kabal was the first one. The only characters who survived Sindel were Johnny Cage and Sonya blade.
I think the fact that Stryker does not have powers should be used to make him more interesting as character. But for that to happen he must appear in a game first, and pray for Netherealm do justice with this character, and considering what Netherealm has done to Kung Lao... Well, F for Stryker
@@orenblack313 I just imagine human limitations being differentin this universe. Most humans are like real people, but some are superhuman like Stryker. I imagine his punchs being comparable to bullets.
I genuinely liked Stryker in MK3, his design was a lot more unique and he was just something different. I always picked him when my dad and I would play Trilogy. The pose that he did after he shot his gun in the air was always pretty cool.
note: he does have a very brief cameo in MK11, appearing in the final scene of Robocop's ladder ending as they stormed OCP headquarters with Sonya, Jax, and Kabal (pre-burn treatment)
I loved the idea of Stryker, just a regular cop, being a Champion of Earthrealm just due to the sheer fact he's a legitimately good person. It's a shame how they wasted such potential with him.
We'll probably never get a good representation of Stryker again because of movements like ACAB, because for every ninety nine officers that pull over dangerous drivers, resolve domestic violence, theft, trespassing, assisting critical injuries for paramedics, and first responders to riots and ever more frequent mass active shootings at schools and other population centers we have one crooked cop that cracks and guns down an innocent man, that means depicting the police as anything other than corrupt villains that like to use melanin seeking smart-guns in fiction is "offensive" and "fascist propaganda"
@@ProjectTaker That's true, man I can imagine Stryker using some sick American Martial Arts like Jailhouse Rock and Chun Kuk-Do if he were ever brought back in a new installment.
I always liked Stryker. And I think they got something good with his past partnership with a rehabilitated Kabal. Not everyone can be a god, mutant or human with strange mystic powers. I do think he needs a arsenal upgrade like they did for Sonya Blade.
That's very strange, because here in brazil stryker is a very popular character, many people played stryker and kabal, many even ignored scorpion and subzero. I remember when i first played mortal kombat 9 with my uncles and cousins, the uncles always chose stryker or kabal and tried to do the old super nintendo moves... crazy to think.
I swear I've always appreciated Stryker, as a kid to this day I know it was an idea to have someone with no powers or flashy moves to be put in the game. And I kinda wish they upgraded his equipment like jaxs arms. I believe there's more Ws that could've went around for Stryker than Ls. But Ed boon, midway, and netherrealm studios didn't see it. F in the chat, I'm sorry Stryker :((
Funny thing is when Stryker was gone after MK3 I forgot what he looked like and what he did but I remembered in my subconscious that there was someone named Stryker. When MK Armageddon dropped that trailer and it showed him punching Mileena I instantly knew that was Stryker. However I thought punching people was what he did and why he was called Stryker 😂
I hope you realize that "punching people" is what most characters in the series do; too common for a name base. His name is meant to be a play on a member of a "strike force", hence the name Stryker. Mystery solved.
@@notsyzagts7967 well yeah I mean it's a fighting game but since I hadn't seen Stryker since MK 3 when he returned for Armageddon and he struck Mileena it just made sense 😂
I find it weird how you didn't mention the infamous Stryker beating Ermac stuff. I wouldn't call that a failure, but you did keep mentioning how Stryker is hated/joke character to most of the community.
that actually makes the game more interesting tbh, if the villains got the same kind of random power scaling throughout and weren't consistently jobbers. it keeps me on the edge of my seat when I'm watching say, Jax vs Shang Tsung in the story and it's possible that Jax wins. Makes the story less formulaic and predictable. unfortunately the chapter system kinda ruins the potential of that dynamic tho, because you know your character is going to win the next 4 fights
The hated by everyone is a stretch. Lol. He’s not inside my top 10 favorite MK fighters but I don’t hate him neither. The one I dislike and many seem to also dislike is Jacqui Briggs.
I always saw stryker as like a bruce Willis in die hard kind of guy but with Monsters and ninjas and stuff. Always liked that concept, personally. Would love to see it brilliantly executed here
I love how the guy in the video said "Stryker is one of the least liked characters in mk" when he is always in one of the top 5 characters asked to come back since mk9
A SWAT officer fighting ninjas, monsters, and Gods?? While still being a down to earth character??? Its amazing he was hated at all. Stryker not being a DLC at all was a crime
I genuinely like striker in mk9 he was a near character, the fish out of water, the everyman seeing this crazy shit for the first time. Even Johny cage had powers and the others were aware of this stuff. He was a guy from the normal world fighting against monsters and he had personality
One character I would like to hear more about is Mavado. I never heard anyone who really dislikes him, even less anyone who thinks he doesn't belong, but he's also not talked about at all, and no one really claims for him to come back. It's weird how he flies under the radar even when compared to the likes of Reiko, Jarek and Kobra.
I don't hate him persay but he is one of the few characters in the series that has no chance in coming back in a mainline game. Jarek, Shunjinko, Dairou, Meat, Kobra & Hsu Hao are the only other characters with Mavado. His signature weapons are Kabal's, he was the leader of the Red Dragon but not really because it was Daegon and his spiked shoes were given to Kano. Meaning there's nothing to give Mavado that would be unique that another new character couldn't have. Thats the theme with the rest of the characters because there is actually nothing you can add to them to make them stand out from the crowd. Example for Kobra, his design would have to be changed because having Street Fighter mixed with Mortal Kombat would be odd and a waste of a spot, so they'd have to completely change his design and story, which at that point would be redundant.
I kinda hated how he seemingly killed Kabal when for all intents and purposes, he should be able to wipe the floor with Mavado. Then Kabal comes back in Deception and is revealed to have done just that. It doesn't help he uses Kabal's weapons either.
@@rylandunlap6986 They "could" at best make something with his elastic-rope hooks, could even be interesting for mobility, though that makes less sense in a 2D environment. But that could even be something to recycle with Takeda, if they bring him back that is. But what baffles me about Mavado is how even in passing references, seemingly all of the characters you mentioned are remembered more than him.
@@wake-up720o4 Yeah they are more remembered than him which is hilarious honestly 💀 Dariou maybe not. But yeah I did forget about those band things, but thats extremely lame still on its own. Its like Jarek getting whips randomly in Armageddon cause he had nothing else
I always thought it was interesting that Stryker was the most regular looking guy imaginable, but that he somehow fit in well with the post apocalyptic theme of mk3. The backstory in mk3 is that everyone's souls on earth were stripped from them except a handful of chosen warriors, and one of those chosen was a regular ass dude like Stryker. Idk it just seemed to fit well for some reason. And I do remember people picking him in mid 90's arcades.
The fact they had Robocop instead of Stryker is infuriating. They opted for a yet another cyborg with no character in his gameplay over an actual cop WITH personality and would fit right in with their discount gi joe aesthetic, not to mention the potential for great character interactions.
Stryker had appeal to me because he was not some supernatural or larger than life character. He was just a run of the mill police officer thrust into a crazy situation he was forced to adapt to. I also liked the use of conventional weapons like firearms, which as an American is totally relatable. The use of firearms would later go on to become even more prominent with Erron Black's character
As someone whose first introduction to MK was MK9, Stryker immediately became a favourite. Just your everyday gigachad rolling over everyone without any crutches. They really did him dirty.
I actually really like Stryker, I've always been a fan of the Average Joe archetype in fighting games, characters like Stryker and Frank West From UMVC
I totally rocked with Stryker in UMK3. His baton attacks with properly timed grenade tosses could drop an energy bar by half. He was a defensive character, you just had to know how to use him
I think one of the cool things about Stryker being a regular guy isn’t just his physical capabilities while using a significantly less effective range of weapons (compared to Sonya or Kano), but his personality and integrity. In MK9, Stryker and Kabal seemed like they were the only two regular law enforcement officers left (I could be wrong though, please correct me if I am) who were trying to help defend the city. He’s outmatched in fire power but that doesn’t stop him from engaging these monsters head-on, especially when his partner’s life is at risk. I feel like if we somehow get another MK story with him, his chapter would do best to showcase that unyielding drive by showing him saving civilians in the thick of it, alone until someone comes in to back him up.
As a Stryker player I really miss him and love him In all 3 games he made it in. He deserves another chance I know they could make him as cool and fun to play as in MK12 they need to do it give this man justice. Rip Stryker
There are so many other characters who can be considered worse mistakes than Stryker: Mavado, Kobra, Li Mei,, Jarek. At least Stryker got to appear in more than one installment in the franchise 😅
I think something that could make Stryker more interesting is giving him a better story. Maybe make it where her starts off as a cop trying to do the right thing. Discovers that his department is pretty much controlled by the Black Dragons. He tries to fight it but nothing can get done. So he then becomes a vigilante. Make him like a mix between Batman and The Punisher. Give him guns but make him a master martial artist who dawns a a superhero type outfit while toting guns.
Pretty much exactly what I was thinking when reworking him, it would also be badass if he worked with Kabal as vigilantes terrorizing the criminal underworld.
Mortal Kombat 9 was actually the game that got me interested in the series. And I used to actually like Stryker and thought he was a cool character. Also a bonus, as a wrestling fan I couldn’t help but notice he kind of looks like John Cena in mk9😂
I don't see the resemblance to Cena, looks more like a younger buff Neal Mcdonough, that just played Birkin in the new Resident Evil movie. MK3 Stryker's display picture Hardcore looks like William Regal, even down to that weird wrestling-looking stance he's doing looks just like Regal about to go for the collar and elbow tie-up at the beginning of a match.
To be honest, I always liked Stryker (even MK3 version). I love the idea of normal guy, who's just doing his job, finding himself in the middle of Outworld invasion and has to fight demons, monsters and powerful ninjas with nothing but his own weapons. It makes him unique in weird sort of way. The issue with him, however, is that he doesn't really work in different scenarios other than invasion. While he works in MK3 and MK9 setting, I can't see him tagging along in Outworld during Deadly Alliance or being involved in time travel Endgame scenario like MK11/Aftermath.
i disagree. thing about stryker is that he should always try to do the right thing, thats who he is. he is a no powered character fighting monsters but he does so because he believes its the right thing to do.
I've loved Stryker ever since the sucker punch incident with Mileena in MK:A. I've never laughed harder during any moment in the series. MK9 brought him to a good level, I feel.
I still want to see Stryker come back for MK12, I wanted him in MKX and MK11. Having him return as a revenant would have been great, and having a story about fighting the revenants and trying to restore them with Quan Chi and Shinnok as the big villains would have been great. Then just having the normal guy working to save the world in MK11 would have been fucking awesome. He should absolutely return in a story reset with MK12.
Honestly Stryker has been one of my favorite characters since he came out back in 3. He was the first character I played with when Armageddon came out cause it had been so long since he was in a game.
I grew up playing Mortal Kombat with my father and he ALWAYS chose Stryker. He would even quote "Stryker Wins" to me just to p*ss me off. Since I couldn't beat him I just used to always select Stryker to be my punching bag in practice mode.
Stryker was one of my faves in MK3 back in the day. I just loved his combos. His use of traditional weaponry actually made him unique because even most of the other human characters in the game had special abilities of some kind while he was using guns, grenades, and a baton. It's boring today because the concept is worn out, but back then it felt fresh to me.
Stryker is one of my favorite characters in the mk3, he’s the only realistically normal character in the game, like no magic powers or something, and having the ability to destroy all these magic like characters is just incredible.
I never understood Stryker’s hate. My first time actually seeing him I was STUCK because he seem the most “human” in the series. (So outside of the whole Police stuff he felt relatable) Yeah iknow mk is filled with Monsters, Ninjas & Sorcerers but (& I’m just in that minority) I’ve always loved the Military/Police style characters because it brung the diversity.. Characters like Jax, Sonya & Stryker showed me you don’t have to be this crazy OP god to kick ass lol I can even say the same for Kano, Cassie & Jacqui
For an Erron Black video, you could call it "the Luckiest Jobber NRS has made" considering he hasn't died onscreen in the story or really any character endings/intro dialogues that I remember.
Stryker is technically in MK Deception, he's one of the characters locked up behind bars in the prison map. I also think he's seen in Konquest mode but I could be wrong on that, although many characters do show up as cameos on the overworld. I've always personally liked Stryker perhaps because I like characters with guns. But despite his lame design in MK3/UMK3/Trilogy, he's a pretty good character with powerful combos. MK9 fixed his design but his tier placement was much lower. Honestly I like that he's just a normal guy stuck in this war with people who obviously overpower him but he still puts his life on the line to save people which is extremely commendable and is imo deserving of respect. I think having a character be different from the usual in this case is a good thing. Also people hated Stryker so much that a magazine back when MK4 or MK Gold was releasing I forget which, anyway they made an obviously fake image of him in the game and acted like he was a popular character returning just to mock him. Also in MK1 and MK2 I think Stryker was actually originally going to be Jax just with the name Curtis Stryker before they changed it to Jax and eventually Jax was cut for Sonya in MK1 for the reasons you stated. It's crazy to think they've had the name floating around since the beginning though.
I always wanted MK to have a Batman/Punisher like character. One that doesn't have any special abilities but still finds ways to kick major ass. Too bad they couldn't give Stryker some real justice. But then again, aren't Sonya and Jax basically that? I mean they both have special abilities, but they seem more technology based.
Honestly he needs to come back. Am gonna be honest i forgot striker existed but now that i see how cool and badass he can be i want to see him in a game. It would be a change of pace from fighting a fire ninja against a thunder god.
Loved stryker in mk 9 especially the fatality because the tongue of the opponent would just be flopping around in half a head. And he had solid mixups especially in the corner and the roll grab reaches full screen. Was super disappointed to not seeing him as a playable character in X or 11. But got to see him in 2 min of cutscenes. Was surprised Tremor wasnt in 11 in any capacity.
SOOOO true they add robocop who isn't even THAT brutal in his own movies ( or maybe he actually is dont judge me i haven't watched robocop movies in years ) my point is they add him but not stryker like WTF is wrong with you NRS?😕
Hard to imagine Stryker taking that much flak, seeing as how a lot of characters throughout the series are a bit dull. Granted, he was a bit underwhelming as a character, but at least he had some decent moves. Was he ousted in favor of Erron Black in the later instalments? To me, they seem a bit similar in the sense of chosen weaponry (guns and grenades), but it's fairly obvious that Erron Black is the more interesting character, drawing inspiration from old Clint Eastwood movies and/or Roland Deschain from The Dark Tower book series - a character which in turn is heavily inspired by old Clint Eastwood movies, according to Stephen King. Perhaps that was the only way to actually make a character like Stryker palatable to a wider audience.
Idk why Stryker is my favorite character… he just is, I will say that he seems similar to kung Lao, in the sense that he’s kinda put in somewhere just to die, which is unfortunate as he is pretty cool
I honestly liked Stryker and don't remember him getting hate back in the MK3 days. I liked his portrayal and design in MK9 too. I think an appearance in MK12 would be cool but given the current political climate and negative attitudes toward police, it's unlikely.
Damn, I didn’t know the Kommunity hated Stryker so much. I always loved him, even in that blue shirt. I never even thought it looked goofy. I just thought he was a really good cop.
Damn... You summed up Stryker's fate very well, disappointing! It's not very surprising either because I consider him to be more of a lackey or more so a minor character. Also you forgot Defenders of the Realm AGAIN in which he functions as a sort of hothead like Sonya but more of a tactician, and he's the only one in the team that can seal portals aside from Raiden. But he had a little development anyway. In my FanFic, Shaolin Monks, Part II, he plays a minor role but still functions as a tactiton even though he's kind of like the weakest link. Even featured his animality for short while. And as far as requests go... Either do something for Nightwolf or perhaps the strained relationship between Kung Lao and Kung Jin. I would definitely go over the latter.... God dammit, those two Kungs need a strong relationship between them.
I used to stomp fools for hours with Stryker in MK3 in the Arcades (and at home when the PS1 launched and MK3 came out... but after a while my friends wouldn't let me play and I was reduced to coaching) I loved putting down Kabals and Sub-Zeros. They snickered at my choice of character and I'd humiliate them most of the time. Saw it as a civic duty... One guy couldn't have spent less then $5 in quarters trying to beat me. Arcade took his money and I embarrassed him in front of his chick for no less then an hour. Got invited to a MK3 tournament in Chicago back then, buy I couldn't fund the trip :( It used to bug me how little attention Stryker got, but in perspective now it makes sense. They missed an opportunity to evolve the character after MK 9. Move past the whole Cop schtick and maybe go with a revenant trying to break free of his cursed form, or returned back to human with some remnants of his time as the undead haunting him and maybe giving him some actual powers. Unfortunately NRS doesn't evolve their characters past there archetypes so there was little chance of that. I'd be surprised if we ever see him playable in an MK game again. Oh well... I'll always have those days in the arcade putting countless poses in the whambulance. Good times...
The current political and social climate when it comes to law enforcement makes me think Stryker will either continue to not be in games or continue to be a tragic punching bag. It would take the publisher being countercultural to bring him back and make him a decent character. I don't see that happening.
I actually loved striker one of my favorite characters kind of because of his normality. I loved being able to play as a normal swat guy and I thought competing with all these supernatural characters was really cool. I do wish they would bring back striker
Honestly I don't understand why the whole, "Oh Stryker is just a normal cop using normal weapons. Argument exists, in case no one noticed, Sonya is a normal human special forces officer, the only thing unique about her is that she has a few gadgets. Despite that, she still fights against demons, Ninja's, and sorcerers on a regular basis. I do agree his original design kind of sucked but really, he fits in just fine.
Sonya's design took a few steps backwards in MK11. Ronda Rousey can't act and the performance was a huge downgrade from Tricia Helfer in MKX (where Sonya actually sounds like a middle-aged woman).
Um Underdog I feel like you miss some couple of some pointers when discussing Strykers history. 1st was when Stryker wasn't included in MK2, and the reason for that was not that Jax look cool and has a great moveset but also ethnicity. In MK you have Liu Kang who's asian,Johnny Cage who's a white American and others of different race, my best bet they needed to add a black African-American to full up the roster in MK2 and decide to put Stryker in the next game. Also you neglected to point out that other than Shang Tsung he fought in MK Battle of the Realms he also fought Baraka and won his match without any weapons. In fact besides the games he's has been in other forms of media, like the cartoon MK Defenders of the Realms and the YT web series MK Legacy. For a failure he looks to get more screen time than Kabal does.
Stryker is one of my favourite characters from MK9, he's more grounded in reality than any other fighter and his specials are satisfyingly brutal. Playing him is like being an every-day-joe in a world of magic and monsters which I think a lot of players appreciate. Thematically he's a bit off brand but I still think he's a better and more interesting fit than Fujin or Bo' Rai Cho.
I actually like Stryker, because this man sees all hell break loose, and some stuff definitely above his pay grade, and he just thinks, grab his gun, baton, a couple of grenades, and is ready to take everything down, even Sonya has special ops training, this man is a street cop or swat at best and still gives his all, and I love and respect that

Because those people have cool backstories and/or related to other characters not just some cop.
@Diablo3364 actually I think a back story as boring and mundane as Stryker's is neat because it's not over the top and contrast with the others. When everyone is a supernatural Ninja, Soldier, Monk, Diety, Monster, Etc. A more down to earth character tends to stand out.

Exactly, Stryker was one of the coolest characters in mk9.

Growing up in Brazil playing UMK3 in locadoras (pretty much spots full of consoles where you paid by the hour to play games) I remember that Stryker was one of the most popular characters: people just loved him for using a baton, grenades and a gun against mages and ninjas and robots.
Literally this. I don't understand why Stryker is so disliked, when Batman is literally the same concept but rich and he's a beloved icon.
@Acnologia120he's not a cameo
It sucks that they never took the vigilante route with Stryker. He could be a compelling character if in a future game they give us some lore that after a mortal kombat tournament Stryker realized that the realms need him to be more than just a cop. Give him a red hood sort of style.
I think that happens in his MKA ending
I always really liked Stryker. The fact that he doesn't have special powers is what set him apart & made him fun.

Your comment is exactly why I’ve always liked him. He’s just a normal guy facing all this.
And his transition from Cop to Special Forces would’ve been so easy given that in his old MK bio he was ex-military, but him being in the Special Forces would’ve took away from the conflict between Johnny and Sonya which I didn’t like personally but I understood what they were going for with
Yeah he was an ex marine. Just a normal grunt no special operations.
Absolutely loved Stryker. He felt like the most purely skill based character out of everyone in MK2011 and he was so likeable.
I think Stryker is awesome. He shouldn't get the hate that he gets. People hate him for being a normal human being fighting Gods, Demons, Shokans and Tarkatans. While the same People love Batman and Sonya Blade for the same reason.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Stryker the third to last character to die in that BS Sindel scene?
You're wrong. Stryker was actually the second one who got killed by Sindel. Kabal was the first one. The only characters who survived Sindel were Johnny Cage and Sonya blade.
I don’t think people hate him most actually like him
I think the fact that Stryker does not have powers should be used to make him more interesting as character. But for that to happen he must appear in a game first, and pray for Netherealm do justice with this character, and considering what Netherealm has done to Kung Lao... Well, F for Stryker

Mavado truly is the character in MK history.

Yeah, true.
I have a feeling why they did that
Robocop is way cooler than Stryker though. And this is coming from someone that isn't a fan of guest characters, for the most part.
Murphy even said he wished he met Stryker...
@@I_AM_BAYTOR True, but it is annoying since it's already a plot hole
The irony is Li Mei is coming to Mortal Kombat 1

I think something that could make Stryker more interesting is giving him a better story. Maybe make it where her starts off as a cop trying to do the right thing.
Also a bonus, as a wrestling fan I couldn’t help but notice he kind of looks like John Cena in mk9😂
if I remember correctly John Cena did mention something about wanting to play stryker if he ever made a return at some point
@@washingtoncommandcenter5541 he looks alot like Cena face wise from mk 9
@@justanothersilentprotagoni9139 Please make it happen. Based p3 profile pic btw
He didn't really say otherwise caterpie.
I actually really liked Stryker in MK9 he had character but they just didn’t take it anywhere
Honestly Stryker has been one of my favorite characters since he came out back in 3. He was the first character I played with when Armageddon came out cause it had been so long since he was in a game.
Stryker is like one of those guys in the movie who always suffering but still able to fight
I grew up playing Mortal Kombat with my father and he ALWAYS chose Stryker. He would even quote "Stryker Wins" to me just to p*ss me off.
Since I couldn't beat him I just used to always select Stryker to be my punching bag in practice mode.
even robocop mentions stryker in mk11
(So outside of the whole Police stuff he felt relatable)
Yeah iknow mk is filled with Monsters, Ninjas & Sorcerers but (& I’m just in that minority) I’ve always loved the Military/Police style characters because it brung the diversity.. Characters like Jax, Sonya & Stryker showed me you don’t have to be this crazy OP god to kick ass lol I can even say the same for Kano, Cassie & Jacqui
Watching this video now and having Stryker as a Kameo in mortal Kombat 1 really is a blessing for his torturous past
Best part is his fatality is a callback.
He sends you on a mission in Konquest mode.
@@defblinders9585 Ah well that answers that question. I played a bit of Konquest but never got far enough to see that. I had a feeling he was present
To me, him being a normal cop among all that magic and monsters is what makes him cool
There are MUCH worse characters than Stryker and I'd rather have him return instead of another "guest" character who adds zero to the story.
The worst part is. They put him in mk1 WITH THE SAME UGLY OUTFIT FROM THE OLD MORTAL KOMBAT
Stryker is the meme we all want and deserve to have. So glad he's a kameo in MK1.
Him and Kabal were always my favorites in mk9. After playing the campaign I liked them even more. Poor Stryker, would love to see him return someday
Damn, I didn’t know the Kommunity hated Stryker so much. I always loved him, even in that blue shirt. I never even thought it looked goofy. I just thought he was a really good cop.
5:00 that was one meeean punch... geeeze, he gave her special education with that punch! 😅
Got invited to a MK3 tournament in Chicago back then, buy I couldn't fund the trip :(
It used to bug me how little attention Stryker got, but in perspective now it makes sense.
Sucks netherrealm refuses to build on characters like Stryker and only focuses on the same ones.
Stryker fights against superhuman and gods. Why bring a gun is cheating?
Honestly, the beginning stuff you said is why I like Stryker, he’s just some guy with 2 guns, a baton, a zapper and a flashlight
It’s hilarious.
Back in the day we used striker a lot. Different strokes for different folks.
Really makes me think he’s the Cliffjumper of Mortal Kombat
" why does he have grenades" theres an outworld army invading earth when hes introduced. Wouldnt be surprised if he had nades
Word man
Sonya's design took a few steps backwards in MK11.
Well now he’s a cameo in MK1
Stryker is back as a Kameo Kombatant in MK1. I'm sure like in a year or 2 he'll be a downloadable main character.
i hope the same for most of the cast that is currently kameo exclusive
I actually like Stryker, because this man sees all hell break loose, and some stuff definitely above his pay grade, and he just thinks, grab his gun, baton, a couple of grenades, and is ready to take everything down, even Sonya has special ops training, this man is a street cop or swat at best and still gives his all, and I love and respect that
