The problem with modern MK is all the military stuff. The characters were WAYYY more interesting when they had magical mystical powers instead of just guns.
Yeah, the Sino-Fantasy elements was what drawn me to the game in the first place, especially pairing with brutally designed stage/music, it felt like "Mortal Kombat", not just another "love and friendship" game.
Can't forget the music. I still listen to the 3D era stuff from time to time. And I would also make an argument for basic colors as well. The characters looked more interesting when their costumes were more vibrant.
YES! Guns are boring. Powers based on chi, magic and godliness are much cooler. I always say this. I’m tired of military characters. The militaries of the world are constantly shoved down our throats in real life. I play games like MK to ESCAPE mundane reality 🤮
Comparison: Guns Vs. Literal gods A guy with fire hands A guy with spiked whips A girl with a bunch of teeth A holy demon slayer A girl with the ability to manipulate her fans without touching them A guy that can manipulate his hat without touching it A girl with sharp teeth and knives
I will never understand why NRS thought removing Takeda was a good idea. Out of all their new fighters, Takeda was the one I found a ton of people unanimously liking, and his relationship with Jacqui could have helped fleshed out her character more as well...but no, Kung Jin, Takeda, Ferra and Torr get one game worth of time before the universe is reset for the second time in the series.
The thing that I cannot stand about Jacqui is the developers took Jax's signature special away from him and gave it to her. WTF!...she's the new character so give her a new special or at least let Jax keep his own special. I know he has the Gotcha Grab but the Dash Punch has been his since the drop.
I always hate when concept art eventually gets revealed and I look at all the ideas of what a character could have been. They fumbled hard on Jacqui. They could have gave her more flair or more like a OG timeline Jax feel while giving her new unique moves that doesn't take from her Dad or is more flashy. One thing that's worse than bad is boring.
I feel bad for Jacqui. And you know what's worse? She was about to marry Takeda, as mentioned in some intros in MK11. But Takeda is not even in it (neither is Kung Jin), so I doubt he might come back in MK12! Unless Ed Boon decides to flex on the Mileena stans for Takeda.
Takeda better come back. Him and cung jin were my favorite of the Kombat Kids. Takeda because he's just raw and has a great story. As for cung jin... I don't want to be to politically correct or get into that topic, but they made a gay character in the best way. He is a character that just happens to be gay instead of it being his entire personality. I appreciated that. That added with his play style and story made him great.
Kung Jin is just a green arrow copy, Takeda however is the only kombat kid worth something yet he was left out so Mileena's retarded ass fans could get their way.
@@1bwash Your logic is insane and dumb. A character's entire personality shouldn't just be their sexuality and in his case yes unfortunately a well-written gay character would likely hide who they are in this specific situation. Oh and onto my main point, you don't hate gay people for not wanting a gay character's sexuality shoved down their throat. No one cares if you're gay anymore, it's 2022.
Her concept art makes me think of Jacqui as a street fighter mostly, and that would've been such a cool concept, making her fight like a street kid and be against the military to make some rivalry with her dad, it would've also worked in making her young and trendy if that was their intent with the kombat kids
@@spicymeatballs2thespicening Basically her extremely shitty attitude. She hates all adults just because her parents abandoned her, claims to be stronger than basically everybody, has an unprovoked beef with Shun'Ei (to my knowledge), thinks she has the right to order everybody around (especially adults), and refuses to do anything she's told.
This proves that fighting game characters are not just "functions". No amount of cool gameplay and extra costumes can save a nothing character. They gotta also have charm, personality, lore, themes, etc.
but they still try to reskin fighters, thinking if you loved X, you will love Y because its all the same "functions" but in a different character skin.
Feats won't help. Look at what Marvel did with Captain Marvel the last few years (in the comics). What she needs is personality, compelling backstory/philosophy/goals/etc., and FFS better costumes and dialogue.
I don't think that's what she needs. Jacqui needs to be less like her father and actually have a personal goal, not ride off the back of her father in this Faux-Mulan tale of fighting in her dad's place. Her entire style is mimicking Jax's combat. Fist attachments that can do ranged and more. She's military so she uses sci-fi tech like her dad. She doesn't possess anything that her father wouldn't already be able to do with upgrades. Perhaps indulging on her with something new. Whether she has adopted something from the Netherealm when she was born. (Jax was a revenant turned human, you don't just completely recover from that without adopting some scars.) Show the impact of Quan-chi's magic and how it is bound to her. Perhaps indulge more on how Jacqui got conscripted to fight on her father's behalf due to his PTSD. Give her a personal goal that is individual to herself and adopt a new style away from just being Jax Jr.
Eh im not in the kombat fan base but its not really feats its more about personality. Johnny cage, scorpion, sub zero, raiden, lui kang yk the iconic ones. I don't really think of feats when i think of them. But they just seem unique while she's just....basic
They should flesh out the relationship between Jacquie and Takeda, maybe even have her get trained by the lin quey and have Takeda make her weapons for her. It would give her some depth as a character.
You mean Shirai Ryu not Lin Kuei because Takeda is under Scorpian not Sub Zero an easy mistake but yeah id love to see a Ninja Jacqui instead of just Female Jax
Or they could just give her a versatile version of jax if they can’t come up with anything else maybe instead of a brawler variation she’s more like a kickboxer?
2:45 so wait, we have all these beautiful designs for her concept art yet they finalized on a generic military uniform? While I'm not the biggest fan of alot of the modern MK designs, I always felt Jacqui had some of the blandest looks. When you look at Jax, the attention goes straight to those metal arms of his. With Jacqui, her arms are so small that I forget that she has those metal enhancements.
Jackie should have been a street punk with a strained relationship with Jax because he chose military over family. Give her more erratic untrained animations instead of the tight Clean boxer based style
That sounds more interesting but I feel Tekeda and Frost took up that space - Frost being the one that had more loose/wild animation styles vs Sub Zero's clean to perfect stances
@@chris21taylor Or maybe she could've been the Donatello (from the Ninja Turtles) of the group who provides all the tech to her team and her fighting style could've implemented the gadgets she creates, Cassie in MK11 really doesn't need her robot thing with her since you don't see it in story cutscenes that could've been given to Jackie like her own AI partner who helps her in missions and creating Tech for her team atleast that way she wouldn't be just another 'Military girl' and be different from Cassie and Jax. Then the Kombat Kids would all be different. Cassie as the 'Head Military Girl' Kung Jin as the 'Archer Shaolin Guy' Takeda as the 'All Rounder Martial Arts Guy' Jackie as the 'Tech oriented Fighter'
Sonya already does that to Cassie and Johnny so I don't think that would work and Jax already didn't want to be in the military and wasn't as loyal to his duty from the start as his partners. I think just not having her that committed to military service as she was would have helped, similar, but not exactly like Cassie Cage. I don't think she has to be a street punk to be interesting.
I do feel like the kombat kids get more flak then they deserve. It was an attempt to push a new generation of fighters which, if they had properly committed to it in mortal kombat 11, may have turned out better than the time travel train wreck we ended up with. The problem is that, like you say, NRS just kinda wanted second versions of the original characters for the players to root for, and no one one wants a discount version of their favourite characters when they can have the real thing. In Cassie’s case it wasn’t so much of an issue because Johnny is such a fun and entertaining character that a second, female version of him isn’t the worst, but Jax is a more serious and firm character which is why Jacqui feels particularly boring in contrast. NRS needs to learn that it’s okay for their younger characters to want to branch out and do different things to their parents, and not completely take after them. And being aligned with the special forces, the most boring faction in the whole series, didn’t do them any favours either - they’re an odd blend of most of the main factions, so they should feel that way, not owing absolute loyalty to any.
They did it that way because fighting game fanbases whine whenever a new generation of characters replace the old guard. Look at Street Fighter III and Soul Calibur V.
@@MagcargoMan in fairness SC5's replacements were pretty terrible. -kilik becomes 1 of 3 mimics on the roster while his moveset is used for the mokey king/goku from esty. -a big factor for why taki was popular is that she was a busty ninja girl in skintight latex so replacing her with a child in spandex kinda misses the point. -yoshi was just another yoshi. -viola & knightmare are just amy & raph. but you wouldn't know that if you looked at supplementary material. -xanghua's daughter is about as annoying sounding as her mother. -don't even get me started on sophie's kids who are basically the entire focus on the game.
So, instead of bringing back most popular Kombat kid in MK11, they instead decided to bring back the least popular one and decided to push her so much that it would (almost) make D'Vorah blush. Yeah, I see absolutely nothing wrong with this.
@@ter8905 I wouldn't have a problem with her murking fan-favorites, if she wasn't pushed *hard*. Like, making the person that finally kills Scorpion (a.k.a. MK Wolverine) also be immune to fatalities story-wise, and ALSO-also being secretly involved with the whole story from the beginning, is a bit much even for a legacy like Reptile or Baraka, much less some fresh-faced kid who only showed up two games ago.
I actually found Jacqui's MK11 ending quite beautiful, emotional and compeling. The several traumas of her dad's life is what lead him to meet her mom and her creation but she's willing to erase herself from history to save her father from all the misery that still eating away at him. I'd argue that ending shows you the type of person she is more than any other actions she did prior. She's really came across as selfless and very heroic, in that moment, to me. There's still a lot that could be done with her but i actually think she's alright MK11, personally. In MKX, on the other hand, she was a non-entity. Her design and personality look and felt so bland and generic that it i didn't know better, i would have thought she was a random Special Forces Agent NPC rather than a playable Kombatant.
Devs creating jacquie Dev1: aight so any new character ideas? Dev2: jaxs daughter? Dev1: ok, sure! Whats she gonna be like? Dev2: jaxs daughter. Dev1: o...k, i mean, personality? And how should she be involved with the story? Dev2: jaxs daughter
@@Yayofangamer16 wouldnt worry bout that, dawg commentsections are usually pretty chill. But hey, if i trigger a few twitter users im actually even happier
They didn't try everything to make her likable...they didn't give her her own separate story or make her unique, they relegated her to the Black best friend troupe/ side character. They need to rewrite her, essentially make her go through something unique, show different aspects of her personality and life rather than just Jax's kid or Cassie's best friend.
@@cocob0l0 this still does answer the question, she can be in a relationship and still be her own character if anything it would help separate herself & build her own story outside of jax.
@@wtfheim Yes she can still be in a relationship and build her own character. But so far, they haven’t done anything with her. Have you seen her arcade ending? That’s just further proof they don’t really know what to do with her
While I don't have much regard for the Kombat Kids in general, I feel that one could only consider Jacqui the most boring in the entire series by (fittingly) forgetting entirely about the absolute bottom in that barrel. Dairou's thing was that he was the chaos-aligned mercenary introduced in Deception with a name that starts with "Dari" who WASN'T Samuel L. Jackson, and Kai's thing was
@@Pennywise12528 Ha! Clever 😆 Kai was so boring in all the games he was playable. When I was a kid playing MK4, I called him as 'Carl' (because of the character from the Simpsons) And I still call him as 'Carl' to this day XD
So, there's a few ideas I could of think of to fix her character flaws, namely, no identity beyond baby Jax but small and girl. 1) The Scientist. Imagine if Jacqui instead of being just puncher like Jax was, she inherited her father's more crafty scientific nature. She's implied to be very gadget heavy with her gauntlets and shield pods but all of it comes off perfunctory. It isn't her gadgets, they were just given to her, and no one else for some reason. If she did have to be in the special forces, have her be in a less battle oriented roll, and take up as a researcher and the mind behind their gadgets. She could still fight, but less golden gloves and more scientist preparing for every eventuality would have been an interesting way to take her character and really give her something no one in the cast does real well. 2) The Ninja. Looking at the concept art a young Jacqui running away to join the Shirai Ryu would have been an cool way to take her away from being Daddy's girl, and could lay the ground work for a bunch of other interactions. Meeting Takeda as a kid to train and have a relationship blossom like that, being a Shirai Ryu counterpoint to Frost and give her some barks at that, obvi Scorpion and now exasperated teacher of two old friend's kids. Move wise, having her be a not very magical Ninja could give her some chops that would set her apart from Takeda and Scorp, but the more stealthy assassin work could give her some distance from Jax. 3) The Rebel. As we see in the opening cutscene of MKX, no doubt there's been more than a few battles raged on Earth realm. Jax has always been part of SF, but just like militaries irl, there's probably a significant group who feel the SF aren't representing them the best way. So, someone outside the SF who still wants to fight, it's up to them. With a baseball bat in one hand and a Molotov in the other, she's there for the people on the ground, and has to fight for them against whatever demonic or outworld threat is invading this time. Her moves can be scrappy, smacking things upside the head and tossing a molly on them as they get back up. The tension between Jax saying he's glad she didn't join the SF but this is not what he meant by that gives her some clear stakes but a pretty strong moral character outside of that. 4) The non-combatant. Let's preface this that just making her a background character is off the table, we want a better story for her, not just to delete character and make a Jax blog post. Now, what if Jacqui followed her mom instead of her dad. She was a nurse, caring for Jax while he got used to his metal arms. Jacqui seeing that as important for the entirety of Earthrealm, since battles are bloody, could have her chase down a medical profession and become a combat medic. Many being conscientious observers, she could only engage in self-defense, with more of her moves being either non-lethal or defensive.
I don't mind the gauntlets especially since Jax does really have any special functions with his arma that I'm aware of , she could retain a few of his moves as a reference to him with the gadget approach you mentioned with her not really performing it 1:1 but close enough with a twist show off her personality kinda like that knew character in sf6 Lily who is a replace and older character, I think it's her dad but I can't remember right now but basically their size is drastically different from each other so she uses to dual clubs to made up for his reach to be able to use the fighting style effectively and with the of their tribes wind spirit to make things interesting also I believe she is a bit of a grappler
I think the funniest thing about Jacqui is they basically gave her the most generic story beat that you always see used for poorly written or bad characters. The Noble Sacrifice. No matter how boring or bad a character is, just slap on the ol' Noble Sacrifice and suddenly that character is "Well written" and "Complex".
I feel more disappointed by how she was executed after she was presented, her fighting style looked great and her combo gameplay is very good but she, along with a lot of other characters, fell under the kustom variation supremacy where one loadout is more useful than any other combination. It makes me wish that she kept her regular flashpoint special and one kustom special allowed her amplified shot to either shoot a rocket, grenade, or stun the opponent similar to Johnny's camera. Other than that, it really feels like they wanted to give her more character but most of her character chapter revolved around the consequences of changing the timeline, an idea that makes sense because that would affect Cassie and Takeda's existence than just her own. It would've been much better if her story ending had Takeda show up in the last second, helped her sort out her feelings, and change the future by traveling back in time and helping the main cast from dying to Sindel, forging a path where Scorpion could've been saved sooner from Quan Chi and establishing a new unity between the Shirai Ryu and Special Forces or something.
I was flabbergasted when I saw her concept designs. They. Look. AMAZING. But I have a pretty strong feeling that they decided to make her look just like her Dad in the end due to either them not wanting to deal with making unique hair designs for her model, or just outright lack of creative thinking when creating the actual game itself. I also wish that they gave her something else to her character. If they REALLY wanted to have Jacqui be like her father, why not make her a tech-person just like him? I forget if The4thSnake, SonicHaXD, UnderDawg himself, or maybe even someone else had said this, but when I heard that I KNEW that would have made a much better character.
I also wanted to add that they never gave her character a fighting chance from the start. She was added to support OTHER characters. She was added to be her father’s successor and to give Cassie Cage a friend. They never cared about her, she’d always been character support, basically a detailed background character.. smh
@@theoutlawking9123 Cassie is mix of both(in both her story and gameplay) and that combo together works pretty well, when Jax's daughter is just him, but smaller. She don't have something unique or "spice" that's gonna be reason to love her.
@@Kansha16 Oh please, she's Johnny and Sonya's little mistake, Sonya even treats her like shit. Plus copying Stryker's gun moves, and being the most disrespectful bitch in the game. Even D'vorah has more manners than her, yet they like her because she's a hot blonde.
Cassy works as a character because she adds onto Sonya and Johnny. She is another element in their complicated relationship, with a special bond to both of them. Furthermore she is just interesting conceptually. The mix between a military soldier and a Hollywood star? That can only go wrong in a fantastic way. While Jackie is contrast is just there. She adds little to Jax as a character, especially when you consider that besides being Cassy’s best friend she doesn’t seem to have a special relationship with anyone really. Everything that makes her special is just being Jax. I think Jackie could have been a more interesting character, if her mother were an Outworlder. Think about it! She would be the bridge between those words that just recently got on friendly terms. She wouldn’t fit in anywhere because of her mixed blood. Neither Earthrealm nor Outworlder. There could even be a cool character arc, where she wonders if she is missing out on one side of her heritage, because she was raised by Earthrealmers. Maybe the mother could try and convince her to work for the bad guys, because Jax effectively separated them after her birth. This could also be used to spice up her powers and give her a bit more visual distance from her father.
@@blossom___blossom___blossom Agreed. She’s a really fun character both in personality and in gameplay. Plus I love that Johnny mellowed up a little as a result of having a daughter. Their relationship is very sweet
I honestly think the key to making Jacqui more likable is to go with Shang Tsung’s ending for MK12. The realms can be sent into chaos and Jacqui can be turned into what she originally was from her old concept art as she fights through the dystopian universe that Shang created. Her concept art look would serve it well & her gameplay as well as her lore can get a major face lift from that. For the record by the way I actually really liked Jacqui in MK11. Her improvements were effective as far as getting me on board goes, and I think a lot of the hate she gets is way over the top & unwarranted
@@jakubsokol7301 Those are big shoes to fill so I wouldn't expect him to reach that level from his only appearances so far. As far as being a kombat kid though, the others aren't touching him. 😂
I think giving Jacqui a story where she struggles with living under Jax's shadow or making her struggle with being like her father would be a good story, also making her also self-conscious and giving her a bit of a daddy issue or never wanting to be a solider but forced just to be closer to Jax would be a good story. I am sorry about things basic on ideas and still connected with Jax, I just feel sorry for Jacqui and just wish she could get better writing.
I guess Kung Jin used a bow as a melee weapon and a projectile weapon where the only other archer I can think of, Nightwolf, uses tomahawks as a melee weapon.
The thing I like about Jacqui is the reverence for her father, and the struggle he had to overcome and endure. It inspired her to emulate him and want to be like him, because to most children their parents are their heroes. Even in MK10 ermac states that she is Jaxson’s spawn, and Jacqui states she is damn proud of it. The fact she tries so hard to make her father proud of her, and defends his old character in her intro’s to his younger counterpart is telling. I’m surprised that I’m the only one who sees this. She doesn’t just copy her father, she carries the torch of her father( her idol) and reason to strive forward too bring pride to her families legacy. (IE being a 3rd generation soldier).
I'm really not the type to shit being "woke" or those dudes who cry about diversity in media. Those people are embarrassing. However, in this case, I think that might be fair to say about Jacqui. She feels like she was included only to check a box over any artistic reason or any real passion for the character. NetherRealm should have given her rocket boots too like Zero Suit Samus
I think what really hurts Jacqui is that she is only used to push others, especially Jax. She has no character other than relationships that either do nothing (Takeda) or just develop the other character (Jax)
Kung Jin and Takeada were probably amongst the best new additions to the MK universe besides Erron Black, Unlike Cassie and Jackie they didn't feel exactly like a carbon copy at least for me and had a unique background(mostly Takeada)
What if Jacqui was kidnapped at birth by the revenants, trained in outworld as an assassin which would be were her concept designs come in, and joins the special forces after she learns the truth of what happened to her?
As annoying as her gameplay is, she became my MK crush when I first saw her, even before I knew Takeda had a crush on her😂. I believe NRS was trying to make her the redemption of Jax's character which was pointless because he already redeemed himself in MKX. Even with all of the pain he's endured, he understood that not only does he have to protect Jacqui but Earthrealm. I'm guessing due to passing of Vera, it gave him a reason to be worry because Jacqui's all he has now. Her arc is basically proving to her father that she can protect Earthrealm, she has his fighting spirit. Oh and TAKEDA FOR MK12!
Say what you will about Jacqui,at least She’s an Interesting Character and wants to Honor Her Family’s Name,Kung Jin is the Most Boring Character in the Franchise as there’s No Unique Factor in Him that it Felt he was in Rushed Development.
Literally the only reason why I was first drawn to Jacqui on the night of MKX release was the fact that my now wife and I were dating at that time, and we had met in the military a year prior. Jacqui's alternate costume along with her hair was exactly what my wife wore. Also, I didn't know the lore yet at that time too but I figured Jax and Jade got together somehow and had a daughter. Jade was my favorite MK female since Umk3, but alas. That wasn't the case lol. But also, her rockets too were my only hope for sektor since triborg wasn't a thing. And when MK11 dropped, I thought she was ugly in her new design. Moves, wack, fatalities, wack. But I made her orb variation work tremendously before I gave up on the game. She's boring, no sex appeal, not worth remembering. So yeah, can definitely do without Combat Kids. Ever again
i'd like to see jacqui return in mk12 and be a rival enemy against cassie after finding out something horrible about the military and the country she's serving, getting her to rebel against her best friend and father so she can have SOME character.
They shoulda gone the superspy route with Jacqui or Cassie. If they're elite military killers then they coulda done the femme fatale government assassin trope like Black Widow. It'd give us an edgy female Earthrealmer (we're sorely lacking in cool Earthrealm women) and make that character stick out more than being a copy of their parents. It'd also put that character in conflict with her parents, who probably wouldn't approve of using the skills they trained them with for wetwork and espionage - as well as the danger of infiltrating Black Dragon bases and possibly even Outworld
I noticed that out of all military characters she’s most in tact with her tech weaponry they should’ve just elaborated on that instead of making her female Jax. She actually has a good personality as she has the most realistic reaction in all the mk11. Dialogue with the way she’s always like “whoa! Or damn!
Jacqui should have had enhanced leg armor and maybe even lost her legs in MKX and gotten bionic ones in MK11 like how Jax has bionic arms, just to distinct her from Jax but she's practically copy and pasted from him. In addition to the costume changes you mentioned.
Damn….the concept art of Jacqui actually looks dope. I would’ve rather had that than what we got, not that I hate her, but it just would’ve helped her stand out a lot more like Takeda does.
No one likes that she beat Shinnok. We try to forget that Shinnok of all characters was defeated by the "super cool, trendy, and totally relatable daughter of Johnny Cage".
The only reason she comes off as boring is because in Mortal Kombat 11 she sounds like a preteen trying to talk tough like an adult. They also changed her skin tone, hairstyle and voice actor. It's like she morphed into a different person in between sequels.
They should have given her a more rebellious personality to clash with her father’s overprotectiveness, kept the street fighter look, made her a tech genius in her own right, and had the kick boxing gameplay from the start. There. Fixed the character. NRS I expect a check in the mail
Meanwhile with Hsu Hao His whole story was just “*he was a member of the Red Dragon*” and in future timelines his most important story was given to Kano like him being a SF informant. And even in his ending the developers hated the character for who and what he was.
Yeah, I really like the character Takeda too lol. Backstory, design, and gameplay. Son of Kenshi and trained both by him and Scorpion himself. How awesome is that? Honestly, I think Shinnok being defeated by him instead of Cassie would have felt more earned and likely. . . 🥰🥰 I like Jacqui but she just feels. . . . . . ."there" to move the plot along. Both in MKX and in MK11 although a little less so in the latter. She needs to do something super important in future games or whatever if she returns again. Even gameplay-wise she just feels like a more nimble, lite version of Jax himself. At least others like Takeda has unique skills like his bladed whips and energy blades he can telepathically wield (which interestingly enough, seems Jax himself designed his tech if one of their MKX interactions are to be believed...) and Kung Jin mostly focuses on archery, which is a first if I recall correctly. Sure, Nightwolf was the first to have "bow & arrow" so to speak but his whole gimmick didn't center around that. 👀 In fact, I think it'd be interesting to see her MK11 ending played around with in a future game with Jax. Somehow finding out he had a daughter and she did this (or something similar...) to "protect/save" him and him coming to terms with that and trying to find a way to change that. I'm sure Major Briggs would NEVER want that regardless of what destiny had fated for him. 😪
Jacqui feel like Dr. Watson to Cassie's Sherlock Holmes. She feel like a second banana to the rest of the Kombat Kids. The other three feel to me that they can stand on their own from a story standpoint.
You hit it the nail on the head. Her art concepts were so dope! I really hate the fact that they made her this “mini Jax.” On top of that, she just didn’t have personality nor an actual story that would cause her to continue the legacy of the Briggs family.
An idea of making Jacqui more interesting - Instead of being a Jax clone who is strong and likes punching people, Jacqui is an absolute nerd who works with intel and crafting weapons. She feels out of place around the other Kombat kids due to her inability to be such a showoff given how she works behind the curtains. Her character arc is about developing confidence and her own fighting style, her gameplay would consist on placing traps and punishing the opponent, with insane damage potential but a high skill ceiling. She could even improve her father's work specializing in prosthetics for soldiers, having variations that focus on different styles turning her into a flexible pick. - I think the Kombat kids are made for a new generation of players to connect better and see new faces, we have Cassie as our sassy and cool bubblegum girl, but Jacqui could hit the opposite spectrum of it as a reclusive and shy genius who stays too much time in front of a computer, contrasting with Cassie and having the two of them helping each other with their unique traits; Cassie helping Jacqui to be more confident and teaching her some moves, Jacqui creating new equipment for Cassie and helping her studying and so on...
Her being a total weapons/engineering/gadgets geek would make for some cute moments between her helping out her dad with his robot arms or straight up building some alternatives for him to use to feel more comfortable living normally.
I think that with Jacqui marrying takeda, they could have said that her change in fighting style was because of the shir ai ryu and her joining the clan, she could have left the special forces and only came back due to Sonia's death and due that distance from the special forces would make writing jax and her characters better in the story
She learned Muay Thai because of takeda his mother was from Thailand Jacqui spent time out there after getting married to takeda,if she learns.more she can become like master raven on Tekken 7
The concept art that stood out was the one where she was wielding a sword and with possibly that blonde hair, it kind of reminds me of a female rapper, maybe make her into a rebel that doesn’t listen to Jax and cocky like all most like Johnny cage, we haven’t seen an urban hip hop inspired character at all and that would be interesting. Maybe have Megan the stallion be her face model and voice like they did nitara with Megan fox
Jacqui Briggs as an Outworlder in the Earthrealm Special Forces would be cool. You could even make her the daughter of Rain to 1) give Rain SOME kind of relevance 2) cause friction with the rest of the SF if its discovered and 3) still fill the diversity angle doesnt even have to be complex, simple as "my father is a narcassitic psychopath who keeps inciting rebellions and i want to be as far away as possible" would work just fine
What I loved about Mortal Kombat is the emphasis on the “Mortal” but apparently that means character with gun. Johnny Cage and Stryker are really fun for me because they’re just dudes. But when everyone is now “just a dude” it makes it feel too forced. I love the Astra Militarum in 40K for this same reason but they get balanced out by the Space Marines. But with MK you have Cassie and Jaqui beating a fucking elder god and barely breaking a sweat. What the fuck.
aw man imagine if she grew up as a rebel like kharacter. it would be a good contrast to her dad. like she wouldnt be too approving of the SF. probably feeling like they failed to help her dad. this makes them. this also can lead to a rivalry between her and cassie. her reason for joining cassie and friends maybe cassie asked for her help vouching for jacqui as a good fighter or a natural talent for fighting. maybe at first shes reluctant until cassie and maybe sonya who understands her stance convinces her. and her arch could be she doesnt want to be jax 2.0 which can be one of the reasons shes such a rebel. maybe give her the moral battle of being offered a place in the black or red dragon in which she declines
I honestly hope the kombat kids return as kameos later on, takeda is coming back as a playable character, a lot of jacquis concepts shown here would fit super well in mk1
Your more then right for the most part though I do think takeda and cassie are actually really nice additions, I love Takedas whole ark of finding out kenshi is his father and why he had scorpion raise him or his wicked fire chain thingy (seriously one of the coolest weapons in mk) and for cassie I personally love her blend of military discipline and tactics with her more charismatic and humorous side and how they make those traits work together. And not to mention her moveset basically being the green cage powers combined with military weapons and tools to make a super flashy and creative kit... though I think that personality wise cassie can seem to be a little cringe from time to time cause of the ages of her writers, for me though that adds to her whole shtick.
What if, they made jacqui a lin kuei soldier, then you the kombat kids, would have a shaolin, special forces, shirai ryu, and lin kuei. And the romance between Takeda and Jacqui would be even more compeling. They could have done a story where they're romance could unite the shirai Ryu and the lin kuei
I think they should had made her somewhat of a tech need. she could have grown up with a fascinating of technology because of her father's arms. also they should have allowed us to see how her mom's death affected her. maybe now she feels the need to protect and help her father since her mother isn't there to do that anymore. show how everything her father has losses affected her because her may have became too overprotective and didn't allow her to make room in her life to have a life. I love her so much personally. but I can even admit that though the pieces were there to make a compelling story, the studio didn't exactly know how to put them together. or they didn't care to. Edit : they could have also had a story where she tries to live up to her dad's legacy but eventually comes to the realization that she needs to make her own legacy.
i mean... i like Jacqui personally. what i don't like is that the ore required for her to be interesting is hidden in mk11 intros with Scorpion among other fighters or a cancelled comic series
Honestly I think Jacqui is cute, so it's a shame. She should have had a mentor to give her secondary attributes like Cass and Takeda. Like for example idk why this would be the case but maybe her mom had cyromancy or whatever so she trains with Sub-Zero She freezes people and then shatters them with her Jax like fists. Idk.
Honestly I found takeda and kung jin cool. Jacqui coulda been cool if she had more kick boxing, but Cassie is like.. useless.? Like, she doesn’t have any interesting moves that no one else has.
She is boring. Her story arc is nonexistent. Her personality is on vacation. She was Jax Lite for enough of the franchise. Jacqui is essentially a playable background character. The fact they nixed Takeda to keep her is proof she is only around to fill a quota on the roster.
An easy origin for Jacqui is that instead of the militarty, she joined a ninja clan. Boom, now you can make remixes of Jax's moves, come up with more interesting designs, and you have a better way to introduce her to Takeda. Kimberly from street fighter is everything Jacqui isn't.
I'm not the biggest fan of MK, I've only played a bit of MKX for like 2 weeks and that was more just against family, and MK vs DC back in elementary school, but something I like about Jacqui, and by extension Jax too, is just... mostly representation. Out of all the characters I played, those two in particular just... made me happy to play as and made me feel welcome, as just some random black guy. I don't know much for their story, as I didn't have time to try that when I was able to play MKX, but to me, the small bit of representation was more than enough to at least let me give me joy for those two characters.
I honestly love Jacqui so much cause she was the only black female character in MK and since Mkx I have loved her(even tho she still wasn't my favorite character) but after some time I realized that she is JUST like Jax. I mean they could've given her some type of her own personality like Cassie ihas both Sonya and Johnny's personality but Jaquci is just Jax in woman form. Ever notice how she always has these masculine poses in MK11 but Cassie has some sass poses. I wish they would've did that with Jaquci to give her some flavor. I love Jaquci so much but I wish they could've done more with her because she had so much potential.
I see you took stabs at NetoTigr, the most infamous Full Auto user from back in the day haha! Nice one, bro! Also yeah, i'm on the same page with you. They should've took the leap of faith with Jacqui and use that concept art. And to add to that since i saw a cool combo video on modded MKX on PC. Since Jacqui is pretty obviously into Takeda, they could've also gave her a variation which mixed the Jax thing with Scorpion's thing, whereas, she gets trained by Scorpion as well, but not as an official student of his. Just imagine, those cyber enhanced arms with the agility of a Shirai Ryu member and their kunai techniques and teleports? That would be a sight to behold! :D
3:41 The good thing about Jacqui Is that we could see MK9 Sonya, Kitana, Jade again thanks to her ending I miss the look of the female characters in MK9 now they look boring
I feel like the obvious way to make Jacqui stand out from Jax without changing much would've been to give her the kickboxing from the start, maybe have her use Crane style kicks or capoeira or something like that, something much more flashy and distinctive from Jax's wrestling heavy style

I think WB wanted more women in the game, and GOD FORBID they remove any black characters.
Maybe NRS is being lazy about adding more female characters so they keep bringing back the kids 😝
Rumors were spreading that Takeda almost made it to dlc. He was very stylish and needs to return.
Omg grow the fuck up they just skipped one game
Takeda is zzz
The thing that I cannot stand about Jacqui is the developers took Jax's signature special away from him and gave it to her. WTF!...she's the new character so give her a new special or at least let Jax keep his own special. I know he has the Gotcha Grab but the Dash Punch has been his since the drop.

If jax wasn't in MKX it would have been fine

True
Jacqui is so easy to forget as a character. She needs feats, important cutscenes, a lot of MK characters need it.
Feats won't help. Look at what Marvel did with Captain Marvel the last few years (in the comics). What she needs is personality, compelling backstory/philosophy/goals/etc., and FFS better costumes and dialogue.
@@Kanti852 And you'll still whine about her lol
@@LuffyBlack bro just gave valid reasons why Captain Marvel is failing in the comics and that’s all you had to clap back?
OOOOO!! I love this idea!
You mean Shirai Ryu not Lin Kuei because Takeda is under Scorpian not Sub Zero an easy mistake but yeah id love to see a Ninja Jacqui instead of just Female Jax

She looks like a npc in mortal kmobat x
It's almost like you have to focus on her face.
Cassie as the 'Head Military Girl'
Kung Jin as the 'Archer Shaolin Guy'
Takeda as the 'All Rounder Martial Arts Guy'
Jackie as the 'Tech oriented Fighter'
Sonya already does that to Cassie and Johnny so I don't think that would work and Jax already didn't want to be in the military and wasn't as loyal to his duty from the start as his partners.
I'm fully down for them as a concept but Jacqui and Kung Jin were both super lame

I actually found Jacqui's MK11 ending quite beautiful, emotional and compeling. The several traumas of her dad's life is what lead him to meet her mom and her creation but she's willing to erase herself from history to save her father from all the misery that still eating away at him. Tbf he DOES say most boring "Netherrealm character" as in from MK9 onwards as the previous mk games were from midway.
These are some cool ideas
I think they have to change jax moves a little bit too like how can't do cooler stuff with his arms
It was a very moving ending, however.
The High heel and stripper concepts all blew
I also wanted to add that they never gave her character a fighting chance from the start. She was added to support OTHER characters. She was added to be her father’s successor and to give Cassie Cage a friend. They never cared about her, she’d always been character support, basically a detailed background character.. smh

While Jackie is contrast is just there. She adds little to Jax as a character, especially when you consider that besides being Cassy’s best friend she doesn’t seem to have a special relationship with anyone really. Everything that makes her special is just being Jax.

Takeda was the best for his lasers and whips
Takeda is a little bit overrated. He's good, he's no where near Scorpion or even Kenshi's level.

Imagine how badass Takeda would be if he also got a chance to train with the shaolin monks
In a sense, she's living in her father's shadow, and the writers haven't been giving her a chance to step out of it
Honestly They should have gone with the Concept Art and made her like a rebellious Teen somewhat like Harley Quinn. With the baseball bat and all
Please no. God no.
The Harley quinn trope needs to die.
I doubt she'd be a rebellious teen concerning her father's PTSD. She'd be like Frost if we had an even bigger excuse to hate her.
True dat
Kung Jin and Takeada were probably amongst the best new additions to the MK universe besides Erron Black, Unlike Cassie and Jackie they didn't feel exactly like a carbon copy at least for me and had a unique background(mostly Takeada)
That’s true
Mostly because they refuse the pathway of their family and become someone else different!
Damn right everybody loves Takeda.
Not me. F$%k Takeda.
I never payed attention to Jaque (or however you spell it) in MK11 I just wanted my boy reptile
I'm still upset for erron black.
He didn't get a sand power or sth like that.

jacqui probably has the sadess ending in mk11
Ever again
Takeda is cool because ninjas
i'd like to see jacqui return in mk12 and be a rival enemy against cassie after finding out something horrible about the military and the country she's serving, getting her to rebel against her best friend and father so she can have SOME character.
Nope, fetus deletus
They shoulda gone the superspy route with Jacqui or Cassie. If they're elite military killers then they coulda done the femme fatale government assassin trope like Black Widow. It'd give us an edgy female Earthrealmer (we're sorely lacking in cool Earthrealm women) and make that character stick out more than being a copy of their parents. It'd also put that character in conflict with her parents, who probably wouldn't approve of using the skills they trained them with for wetwork and espionage - as well as the danger of infiltrating Black Dragon bases and possibly even Outworld
I would have loved if she went from being a clone of her dad to being her own character
“It doesn’t feel earned or logical”
*so we’re just going to ignore cassie beating Shinnok??? Okay bro*
No one likes that she beat Shinnok. We try to forget that Shinnok of all characters was defeated by the "super cool, trendy, and totally relatable daughter of Johnny Cage".
Pretty sure Cassie is the most hated character of mk
@@JohnnySilverFinger nah - I love Cassie. Many folks do. Yeah the Shinnok defeat was bollocks but still like Cassie's character.

The only reason she comes off as boring is because in Mortal Kombat 11 she sounds like a preteen trying to talk tough like an adult. They also changed her skin tone, hairstyle and voice actor. It's like she morphed into a different person in between sequels.
Except for the skin tone thing, everything you listed was also done to Cassie, who also became an unlikeable turd.
@@Kanti852 I 100% agree with you.

ok... she was garbage in 10. so being god awful in 11 cant be excused by them changing all that?
@@quint2568 She went from boring in 10 to really bad in 11.
They should have given her a more rebellious personality to clash with her father’s overprotectiveness, kept the street fighter look, made her a tech genius in her own right, and had the kick boxing gameplay from the start.
There. Fixed the character. NRS I expect a check in the mail
Jacqui suffers a lack of development separate from her circle. We need to see her how she is alone. She didn't get that IN MK11 or MKX.
Him: kung jin is the only character with bow and arrow
nightwolf: What about meeeeeeeeeee
Meanwhile with Hsu Hao
His whole story was just “*he was a member of the Red Dragon*” and in future timelines his most important story was given to Kano like him being a SF informant. And even in his ending the developers hated the character for who and what he was.
“Imagine being so unpopular that the writers literally erased you for existence” sounds like Joe from street fighter
I remember when I finally got interested in mortal kombat lore( MKX) and the first time I watched the story mode Takeda became my favorite one.
Yeah, I really like the character Takeda too lol. Backstory, design, and gameplay. Son of Kenshi and trained both by him and Scorpion himself. How awesome is that? Honestly, I think Shinnok being defeated by him instead of Cassie would have felt more earned and likely. . . 🥰🥰
I like Jacqui but she just feels. . . . . . ."there" to move the plot along. 👀
In fact, I think it'd be interesting to see her MK11 ending played around with in a future game with Jax.
An idea of making Jacqui more interesting
- Instead of being a Jax clone who is strong and likes punching people, Jacqui is an absolute nerd who works with intel and crafting weapons.
You could even make her the daughter of Rain to
1) give Rain SOME kind of relevance
2) cause friction with the rest of the SF if its discovered and
3) still fill the diversity angle
doesnt even have to be complex, simple as "my father is a narcassitic psychopath who keeps inciting rebellions and i want to be as far away as possible" would work just fine
Takeda is actually very interesting. I hope he comes back in MK12.
Video idea: the funniest charecter in nrs history
Johnny or Rai Cho in my opinion
MKX Cassie was also pretty funny
Kano is pretty funny. But Johnny Cage is easily the funniest character.
i mean... i like Jacqui personally. what i don't like is that the ore required for her to be interesting is hidden in mk11 intros with Scorpion among other fighters or a cancelled comic series
I’m glad frost managed to escape sun zeros shadow😭
Honestly I think Jacqui is cute, so it's a shame.
She should have had a mentor to give her secondary attributes like Cass and Takeda.
Like for example idk why this would be the case but maybe her mom had cyromancy or whatever so she trains with Sub-Zero
She freezes people and then shatters them with her Jax like fists. Idk.
I was saying before she should've been born without leg function and had cyber legs, training with liu kang or something to maximize kicks.
Honestly I found takeda and kung jin cool. Jacqui coulda been cool if she had more kick boxing, but Cassie is like.. useless.? Like, she doesn’t have any interesting moves that no one else has.
She has that obedient soldier personality. That's as boring as you can get.
Jacqui isn't boring. Just she is no where near as good as her dad. Jax is also an iconic character and many people love him.
Even compared to like 99% of the other characters she's bland
She is boring. Her story arc is nonexistent. Her personality is on vacation. She was Jax Lite for enough of the franchise. Jacqui is essentially a playable background character. The fact they nixed Takeda to keep her is proof she is only around to fill a quota on the roster.
An easy origin for Jacqui is that instead of the militarty, she joined a ninja clan.
Boom, now you can make remixes of Jax's moves, come up with more interesting designs, and you have a better way to introduce her to Takeda.
Kimberly from street fighter is everything Jacqui isn't.
Takeda and Cassie are good, though.
And they could do betterJacqui, even keepin army and arms choices. Its just bad writing
Just Takeda

I feel like the obvious way to make Jacqui stand out from Jax without changing much would've been to give her the kickboxing from the start, maybe have her use Crane style kicks or capoeira or something like that, something much more flashy and distinctive from Jax's wrestling heavy style
