All of these characters should be given a second chance at least to just be jobbers for other low tier character to make those low tier characters seem more of a threat

I believe Dairou is not a bad character! In fact they can bring him back and make him like Quake aka Daisy Johnson from Marvel (she was the main character in agents of shield)! Ashrah is also a pretty good character that i’d wish they’d bring back, I think her story is really interesting and honestly if she got some tweaks she could be such a unique fighter

Kai was definitely a missed opportunity, just like Li Mei, Kai was the Earthrealm hero who was supposed to have the torch passed down. Hope he returns in some capacity
Li Mei is certainly one of my favorite characters and is highly due for a comeback. They clearly have been thinking about her by putting her in backgrounds and that big role in MKX. If they really expanded on her MKD fatality and give her a super quick pressure point striking rushdown style and even can go further and make her a contortionist because of her carnival kick move. I always compare her to women we see in classic Wuxia films like Michelle Yeoh in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon especially since we don’t have a character of that vibe right now, I even think of Ty Lee and Mai from Avatar when I think of comparisons or Neji and Hinata from Naruto. Can take her the route of young upcoming champion like she was before or the MKX route of a wise leader of her village with experience behind her. Her brief appearance in MKX actually had a lot of vharm to her they even gave her a fun dry sense of humor when it came to her basically making fun of Johnny lol. There’s also tons of weapons they could experiment with and I do believe wind and fire wheels could work amazingly on her or even smaller hidden weapons to keep a low profile protecting her village would be really neat too. I just really fell for this character growing up I always have a soft spot for the tragic character types. Plus her aesthetic in general is extremely appealing for me. It’s a shame she keeps getting completely shat on! Also people seem to forget the ONLY REASON SHE TURNT EVIL IN MK DECEPTION was because her soul was partially transferred to the soldier, Bo’ Rai Cho showed up a bit too late.
While not forgotten, Nitara has been HIGHLY disrespected in her most recent appearances. I'm just hoping that all of this exposure she's been getting will secure her a place in the next main line Mortal Kombat game...
Nitara is someone I'd be happy to see again. Her design is pretty unique among the cast and surprisingly despite all the bikini ninjas in MK history there has never been a succubus-type character. She's also one of the only characters to have wings. Though with Skarlet being so prominent I doubt they'll add another "blood mage".
Chameleon is my all time fighting game character because i loved his design and gameplay in mk armaggedon. BUT HE NEVER CAME BACK DUDE WHY HE WAS SO INTERESTING.

The 3d era is under rated in my book. It had great expansion to the lore. Good storylines. A few characters i want to see more of. Who dosen't want to see more Red Dragon.
Honestly I think Drahmin would be a great addition to the roster. There's something visceral and intriguing about him that could make him an interesting character. He could make for a very terrifying character if done right.
@@JD-cg8it I think he will. There’s huge potential for different mask and club designs for him. He has one of the most creative and unique designs and character names in the franchise. There’s a lot they can do with rage attacks with him removing his mask, throwing the flies to slow you down, swarming or entrapping you, etc.

While they're not "forgotten" necessarily (too recent for that), I'd really like Ferra/Torr to return in future games. I had a blast playing as them, and hated that the last reference to them I could find was a throwaway line about finding their corpses in the Krypt.
Mokap has legitimately brilliant lore. He was the stunt actor that Midway hired to make the character animations for the Mortal Kombat games, which means he is canonically able to perform every move in the series. In Armageddon, he decided to enter the tournament himself because he basically entered and won multiple simulated tournaments.

I don't believe Li Mei was actually killed in her Deadly Alliance ending. She was rescued at the last second by Bo Rai Cho, but not before a piece of the soul of an undead statue had tainted her. That's the reason her Deception ending has her turning traitor. She was corrupted

I remember back on the old days, Li Mei was very popular but when Deception came fans were outraged on her horrible ending, but still had a considerable amount of fans. I feel like she was a very good character and my personal favorite in those games. The idea of a great student who fights for her people and stands against the greater evil, nothing very special but very likable and her teacher-student relationship with Bo Rai Cho was a good idea that could be explored

Mavado, I kinda like his edgelord design. With right tools, he could be a nice new era character. Moloch and Drahmin, Why MKX didn't explored freaking Netherrealm. Onis are cool consept and they could be good sub bosses.
The Onis would have been such a good addition to MKX as opposed to having fight Goro as a sub boss EVERY time in the klassic tower, for some variety at least.
I want Meat to return. Here’s how I see it You could have him be goofy as hell, fully embrace how odd of a character he is OR Make him scary. Emphasize the fact that he is presumably in constant agony. Truly showcase how much of a gory mess he is, one of which could only be born from the twisted thoughts of Shang Tsung. Idgaf if he’s a joke character, meat is awesome.
My words! If there are some characters, that need to come back, it’s Meat and Chameleon. They have a huge potential in the new games! (MK1) We recieved Khameleon, but it’s just not the same as Chameleon….
Jarek and Kira were made solely to replace Kano (and Sonya in Kira's case) who weren't playable in their respective games. They literally have all of his moves.
Kira is literally the Kano equivalent of Deception. It's quite sad that Kano had to be replaced...wish I could just swap the Kira model with a Kano model.

Kai and Li Mei are very underrated. Kai was meant to be Liu Kang's protégé and Li Mei was the actual protagonist of Deadly Alliance and was even the canon winner of the Deadly Alliance tournament.
I'd like every failed MK character to get revamped and redeemed. Kai has a lot of potential simply because of his handstand/walk. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned as it's pretty funny and the only thing really memorable about him. I'd love them to really lean into that. MK is best when it's silly.
Kira for sure, would love to see her return. Was my main in climbing the old online ranks of Deception. Honestly I liked her look, and her backstory only needs a little bit of sprucing up to be decent. Give her a new moveset where she isnt just a Sonya and Kano hybrid and she's got a shot at being a good character.
@@mkfan6167 She has potential, which cant be said about alot of the 3D era characters that weren't featured in MK9-11. Honestly if you touch up some of the weaker points, that being her story, as in add more to it. Also give her an actual moveset, as opposed to borrowing from 2 other people. We could have another representative of the Black Dragon with staying power, a female member as well, which is sorely needed as far as that group goes. Obviously could just use Tasia, and be brought in similar to Tremor. Regardless, I stand by it, I would love to see Kira return. Lol

Sareena actually has an interesting story and it would be cool to have one where she brings Noob out of his evil, yet she’s never playable since Armageddon.
yeah i would say she’s like top 5 most requested 3d era character to come back. it’s almost always havik, li mei, sarenna, nitara, and reiko. her and sarenna, from what i usually see, are constantly fighting for top 3d era female fighter to return. ashrah is fucking underrated as hell and she doesn’t deserve to be in the shadows
I could see Mokap returning as an easter egg, my idea would be have him in a new friendship for Johnny Cage. Like have it be a set up where Johnny is performing an uppercut as if hes doing his og fatality, but his opponent doesn't causing Johnny to tell him "This is the part where you fall down" before yelling Cut in frustration, the lights turn on and the background turns into a green screen with the opponent replaced with Mokap and the camera pans back to reveal an annoyed film crew before Johnny goes "Where do you get these guys?" I think it'd be a neat one you get a 2 for 1 movie nod and mokap cameo

Li Mei gotta Come back. And with how she had Alterations even back in the 3D area, I would love to see what they Do with her. And Keep her as Lady Bruce Lee kause her Style was Cool and Her Fatalities were AWESOME!
Here are some ideas on how to fix some of the 3D era Black and Red Dragon characters: Kobra - Emphasise his brutal kickboxing style and maybe give him a hidden boot blade that can inject the opponent with poison. Also I’d have him use something like a spiked bat as a weapon as well. Kira - Make her a heel wrestler who turned to crime after stabbing her rival to death in a match. This way her moveset has a core theme “being women’s wrestling” and she isn’t just a Sonya x Kano clone. I got the idea of making her a wrestler from Sonya’s old kiss move that Kira then stole. It reminds me of a cheating technique used by heel wrestlers when they spit out mist in their opponents faces to blind them. She could also incorporate her knife play into her wrestling like getting the opponent in a chokehold before stabbing them in the stomach multiple times. Jarek - Make him the Black Dragon’s main arms dealer with a moveset that utilises all sorts of illegal technology like lasers, landmines, chemical weapons and molotov cocktails. He could also keep his lasso but with more unique techniques rather than just the standard scorpion spear. Personality wise, he sees himself as an important part of the Black Dragon and sees Kano as his equal but after briefly being unable to his job after sustaining an injury he is shocked to find that the syndicate has been running fine in his absence, with him being replaced by a much more competent dealer. He wishes to move back up in the ranks and prove himself. Hsu Hao - Have Hsu Hao be this mighty warrior that didn’t realise a war he was fighting in was being profited off by the Red Dragon. One fateful day he falls in battle and is revived by the Red Dragon at the cost of needing a cybernetic heart to survive and now he feels loyal to the red Dragon thanks to them reviving him but he also despises having to live with the reminder of his initial defeat in the form of his new heart. As for his moveset, What if he was a stance change character who had the option to take his heart implant out, increasing his speed and giving him more specials and strings based on Mongolian wrestling but at the cost of beginning to take damage over time before he puts it back in. With the heart he could have lasers, his old bouncing projectile, a move that draws the opponent towards him, an energy ball trap, the option to charge up his specials to make them stronger and maybe some Senator Armstrong inspired moves that use nano machines to harden his body and armour through attacks like Zangief’s V-Skill. Mavado - Get rid of the Hookswords and replace them with regular dual swords but Keep his spiked boots and grappling hooks. Play up his arrogant personality by giving him a bullfighter theme, using flashy swordplay and utilising his black cape in an “Ole!” style counter. I get that in order to fix some of these characters you need to give them stuff that Kano already uses in MK11. This actually highlights a small problem I’ve had with some character’s movesets as of late. It feels like Netherrealm keep cramming movesets with unnecessary things that don’t fit the character. For example, Johnny Cage’s most famous line is that people assume he uses special effects but he IS the special effects, yet in MK11 he uses stunt doubles and cameras . Sure Kano fights dirty and I can definitely see him bringing in hidden knives but there are more than one way to fight dirty. Kano seems more like a “kick em while they’re down” ,poke them in the eyes and bring a knife to a martial arts tournament kinda guy not a “Random Bullshit, Go!” kinda guy, y’know? Also Kano LITERALLY STOLE HSU HAO’S DRIP. That is all.
You know, those are some pretty cool ideas there, especially Kobra and Kira since those were some things that I could have never never thought up for them. I also liked Mavado and Hsu Hao's as well since they have many things that you can play around with their initial concepts in order to make them more interesting.
Jarek - give him back his axe but with a chain attached this time(to compensate for the lasso). given that his main colour is bronze which is close brass, make him the brass bull(executioner) of the black dragon and make him smoke and exhale through his nose to mimic bulls. The bull theme would go very well with Mavado.
These are good ideas. I also had some gameplay ideas. Li Mei: giving her extremely fast attacks, incredibly flexible and acrobatic moves and have her utilize pressure point attacks/parries based on her deception fatality where she can stop an Opponent from either punching, kicking, jumping or doing specials. Ashrah: giving her specials with a voodoo doll based on her fatality, her sword and also ofuda (A mystic item) which would suit her a lot. Drahmin: Give him an array of torturous weapons/specials since he is a tormentor of hell. Also give him specials where he takes his mask off and goes berserk and gains new attacks and goes ham on the opponent. Kai: I think his gameplay is fine, just add more capoiera styled moves. Sareena: in her human form idk what powers to give her but I think she should have a kusarigama, that weapon that looks like a scythe but it's on a chain. Also let her have specials where she can turn into her demon form and give her demonic abilities. Majority of the 3d era could definitely be revamped and reach their potential gameplay wise if they were actually brought back.
Darrius, Li Mei, Shujinko, Nitara, Ashrah, Reiko, and Havik made returns with MK1, so it's highly likely other "forgotten" characters will make a come back as well. My hope is for both Chameleons to make a true and final entrance, rather than being the only 2 they cannot settle on the design and origin of.
I wrote this a while back. It was reimagining of Ashrahs story, combining her old story with some new elements making her a "religious zealot." Sorry if it's long: A demon of the Netherrealm, Ashrah found a chance at redemption when she stumbled upon a mystical sword she called the Kriss. With each slain demon, Ashrah felt the sword cleansing her soul, purifying it, and soon she was freed from the Netherrealm's grasp thanks to this sacred sword. But, in actuality, this was no holy sword. This was the infamous sword known as the "Datusha" and it craved one thing: Blood. Whoever wields the Datusha becomes entranced by it, worshipping it, and blinded to do its bidding. Ashrah was freed from the Netherrealm, not by virtue, but by corruption. The sword has manipulated Ashrah into cleansing the realms of "sin" so her soul would be purified enough to elevate her above even the heavens themselves. But "sin" comes in many forms and the sword cares not for who's blood it absorbs. Demon...or otherwise. Sadly, Ashrah is not purifying her soul as she believes, but rather securing her place in the Netherrealm with each slain innocent body. Should she meet her demise, the souls of those slain by the sword will forever torment Ashrah as she descends into a darker, more wretched plane of the Netherrealm for all eternity. And the cycle will repeat itself once more as the sword will find a new host. One that can satisfy its neverending quench for blood.
A Minor Correction: Ryo Sakazaki was the main character of "Art of Fighting", Terry Bogard was the main character of Fatal Fury. However Ryo showed up as a secret crossover character in Fatal Fury 2 Special.

I wouldn't actually mind seeing a new iteration of Shujinko. I imagine he could play like Zeku from Street fighter 5, with both a young and an old version. That would be pretty cool.
I want to see more representatives from different realms. Deception was dragged down by being Deception but I love the idea of mixing up "Earthrealm and Edenia good, Outworld and Netherrealm bad" by introducing Orderrealm and Chaosrealm, in addition to adding in more characters from each realm to demonstrate that they each have their own unique factions and conflicts.
They can make so much more with Kobra. Special moves can be taken from Streetfighters Ken and his base moves and Combos an aggressive Karate style like cobra Kais karate. Make the skins better and work with the given Story and give him a New purpose
I honestly love every character in mk except cetrion so this list saddens me a little. I love darrius’ main design and I think he could have gotten more love, I also love Jarek in armegeddon. Kai was awesome and in my opinion he should have replaced liukang in 4 and became the new champion of earthrealm. Or maybe even become the god of fire with Fujin and raiden. Tsu hao was my favorite DA character style wise. Personally I’d love a armegeddon 2 with a updated roster
@@antonybraus325 I’m not sure honestly, I think it’s because of the fact that she is an elder god and yet she gets messed up all the time. Honestly it’s most likely just due to the fact that I find her playstyle to be painfully boring, just zone zone zone. She has no combos and is the most boring playstyle in a very boring game. (I’m not a huge fan of mk11) if she could have a slightly more varied style, like maybe some more “face to face” options then maybe I’d like her more but in the end I had no desire to play her and just set her to ai in the arcade ladder.
@@jestaalchaosborne ahhh that’s fair, I just like her design from an art standpoint. Just think her and her gear is cool. She does have some fun mixups though if you play her more rush down. Using deadly winds up close can give you plus frames. Then using the teleport as well can help with keeping them guessing. I think she can be played differently, it just makes her lower tier. I deal with it because I like her design.
@@antonybraus325 her design was pretty cool (though I like some of her concept art more) I know about her wind mixup, I’m just partial to characters that can get long combos like noob, scorpion, liukang and Kung Lao. Where as cetrion can get a nice 5 hitter for like %20 which is ok but it’s only one combo. To be fair most of mk11 feels pretty stale and blocky. It’s like the sf5 of mk.
Coming back to this after M1K’s release, I find it hilarious how much of this has dated either very well or very poorly. Li Mei is back as an actual character with a real story. Darrius is at least in as a Kameo. Kai is mentioned in an intro, potentially for some manner of setup with him in the future. And your prediction about Dairou was actually very true; his name and story has been given to Havik, which means the separate character in the way he existed prior is never coming back.
Ashra, nitara, li mei, and serena should sll come back. They fid nitara do dirty in the movie. Announcing her casting early just to kill her off, for kung lao, who got offed too. Thr disrespec
The 3D characters have a special place in my heart. They may not be very cared for or remembered, but I still will always love them. Especially the Red Dragon they were all bangers
Kira. She suffered greatly from being TWO characters that didn't appear in Deception. I believe everyone who wants to see her again agrees she needs a moveset overhaul. While her character as a concept isn't itself bad, she was done dirty by the developers because of the narrative demise of several legacy characters in Deception.
I always refer to Kira as “That hot redhead who’s the lovechild/fusion of Kano and Sonya.” As for Kobra, “That guy who’s the love child/fusion of Ken Masters and Johnny Lawrence with a bit of Draco Malfoy’s attitude.” Also, a wannable evil Johnny Cage. Not gonna lie, Kira ALWAYS annoyed me because of the fact that multiple times in MKD’s Konquest you fight her… while bleeding out. This stipulation is already bad enough, but the majority of the time it is against such a lame character only makes it worse. Sure, you have one of those against Shang Tsung, Mileena, Kobra, Baraka and Havik, a couple against Sindel, but for Kira it’s three fights. In fact, there’s only ONE fight against Kira in MKD’s Konquest that ISN’T a “defeat her before you bleed to death,” it’s in Edenia. But guess what? That fight forces you to somehow beat her… in 15 seconds (the game also throws this same stipulation against Ermac in Orderrealm, yet it never seems as irritating). Even worse than the Kobra one in Edenia, where you must do it in 30 seconds and you do only half damage. So yeah, they’re both lame and annoying, but to me Kira was more annoying one and Kobra was the lamer-designed one. So it becomes a “pick your poison,” kind of choice with those two.
Li Mei was "Such wasted potential" as Master Blueberry Ice once famously said. I loved her gameplay in Deception, her design was also really interesting.
Jarek was always a joke character. His face was modeled after Herman Sanchez, who was a character designer for the 3d era games including MK4. That's why he screams "IMSOGAAAAAY" in his endings. I had no idea that Li Mei was meant to replace Liu Kang. Sonya also has the Bicycle Kick.

Li Mei's kind of an interesting case with all the things that happened with her: Deadly Alliance: Yeah, she died, for maybe like half a second before Bo'Rai Cho saved her. The short contact with Onaga's army corpse sort of raised her fighting spirit and loyalty to Outworld. Deception: I'll admit, I really hated this ending too when I was younger, because I really do like Li Mei as a character. Years later...it KINDA makes sense? Again, the transfer to that corpse for like a microsecond likely instilled some loyalty in Onaga, the ruler of Outworld. MKX: Because of all the changes made to the timeline, Li Mei never gets a chance to train to fight, because it was Shujinko that trained her as the events of Deadly Alliance was happening. She basically beat up Kano, gets invited to the fake tournament, then Shujinko offers to train her to fight to enter it. Because there's no Deadly Alliance with Shang Tsung's death and transfer into Sindel, there's no enslaving of her people, and she never has a reason to ever fight. I STILL don't understand why she's basically evil in Battle of the Realms, though. Or why she's fighting in the events of MK2. Also should have mentioned her being the first casualty in Armageddon. THERE'S some disrespect.
I'd like to see Ashrah and Taven come back. Ashrah had a very unique design & story and I disagree that people called her a female Raiden. As for Taven, the fact that he's an Edenian demi-god who is on Earth Realm is interesting and although he was mentioned in Kenshi's MK10 ending and seen in MK9 during Raiden's Flashback, he's not really in any of the games. I'd love to see him make a return. It also doesn't hurt that I named my dog Ashrah and my cat Taven (they seemed to live up to those names).
I mean the devs even said that her design is straight up female Raiden. Don't think it's bad to based her look on the thunder god. That and her fatalities were sick AF. Have to kill you off through a Voodoo doll was just another creative level for fatalities. They really need to bring her back.
Ashram is very cool indeed. Her story is unique and the fact thart she got to ascend from Netherrealm to a literal Heaven is sick. Also, is Heaven a realm of its own or coexists with Netherrealm?
On MK11, my kombat kard is Darrius going against Hotaru. I was hoping that was a hint that they would be dlc along with Sareena and Mokap because they're also a kombat kard. I really hope they bring back some Deadly alliance and Deception and a few armageddon kharacters. I want to see Chameleon, Mavado, Blaze (deadly alliance version), Ashrah, Drahmin, and Motaro in MK12. I'll play the shit out of those kharacters. They deserve some love 🖤
Heyo, here's me trying to redeem these characters by going over them and finding ways to make em work. Note, this might end coming across as retconning or remaking them ground up: - Darius could use some visual touch ups like tattoos or similar, I'm not the biggest expert. That said, his moveset should be orderrealm military inspired. Have him use technology not seen in this world being used in normal fashion, which is different than Hotaru, who's more traditional fighter. Have him take Blade reference into the next level, by giving him abilities and tools similar to him, while also leaning into matrix style fight. Also, use him to bring up oppression found in Order realm, while also showing him as a hypocrite. - Dairou has a problem of being too similar to Scorpion. Really, he should be the sympathetic Order realm character, since neither Notaru nor Darrius are. His moveset are also should be made least technology heavy, using close range combat with his only weapon being pretty standard. Have him also be the main representative of Bajiquan style moveset, or more power style martial art unlike Jeet Kun Do and Wing Chun style of the Shaolin (I know Li Mei used it too, but maybe she should focus on flowy style like Tai Chi instead). His powers should be quick spells, aside from power attacks. - Kai literally needs to focus on his Capoiera to be different from Liu Kang. Also, color his fire differently, like blue for example, make him stand out. Otherwise, make his story about being someone who has to put Liu Kang and Raiden in check after they had screw up one too many times. If that doesn't work, make him on of the sons of the fire God, like Raiden, looking to understand who he is and living with Shaolin Monks. Whether he becomes one or not is separate, have his story bridge what makes a God different than a human. - Jarek should become the MK Movie Kano. And yes, by that I do mean that smarmy bastard you all love. You can't really have him replace the original Kano, so why not have Jarek get Amnesia and be cursed by magic of Quan Chi or Shinnok, where he is slowly getting powers similar to Kano, but will get more powerful if he submits himself to them, which in turn means he'll have to betray Sonya and special forces. - Kobra literally has to lean into Street Fighter for one. As for two, make him a rival to Liu Kang. Like Shang Tsung found the young kid capable of matching Liu Kang and hid him in order to take down after so many defeats. Have him be as young as kombat kids too, if you want. - Kira can be made Harley Quinn like in moveset. Make her focus on taming and using animal companions alongside her weaponry. Have her play off of Kobra with that too. And those are my two cents.
Losers only hate Kobra because he was easy to use so their mains got defeated by a bunch of newbies choosing the Ken look-alike, I have no evidence but also no doubts. More seriously I actually think that if any character has a chance of coming back is him, this is based entirely on the fact that "Cobra Kai" is a hit so someone at Netherrealm is probably thinking that maybe they could capitalize on it by bringing him back while voiced by William Zabka.
While Kobra is really useless, I would love to see Kira back. She could be made into an awesome character if the devs put some effort and come up with unique stuff for her that don't make her a female Kano.

I wish they gave Dairou more depth. I found him to be a good character to play as, one of the stronger one's in Deception. A lot of untapped potential.
Kobra alternate costume from deception looks like Jin's hoodie from tekken 4 and 7 combined togheter Also Shujinko could be very interesting if he comes back- he copies special moves like Shang Tsung does, but he also has his own fighting stances And not to mention that he has the easiest most damaging kombo in deception(Mantis b2-Li Mei spin kick-Liu Kang bicycle deals 42% damage)
While not as damaging, my favorite combo to use was Spear, then the style branch combo “Perfection,” then the style branch combo from Shaolin Fist while they are in the air. Or use the Bicycle Kick in the air instead of the second combo.

Netherealms should bring Jarik back and capitalize on his unintentionally hilarious ending and scream. They could make him a comic relief character. An over the top clumsy, self aggrandizing, screaming guy, who you beat up during story mode and can laugh at how pathetic he is. A lot like Dan from StreetFighter. Like imagine the ending of such a guy. He somehow kills the bad guy and claims the plot device and no one believes that he did it. So he wants to use the plot device on everyone else, only to somehow stumble and die. There could even be funny interactions for when other characters talk and mention him. Something like: Johnny: “black dragon must be going through some tough times” Kano: “how so business is booming?” Johnny: “and all you could afford was Jarik?” Or Jarik: “I am here to kill your and take over the Black Dragon” Kano: “no idea who you are. New hire?” Jarik: “I’ve been here for like 15 years.”

Li Mei is certainly one of my favorite characters and is highly due for a comeback. They clearly have been thinking about her by putting her in backgrounds and that big role in MKX. If they really expanded on her MKD fatality and give her a super quick pressure point striking rushdown style and even can go further and make her a contortionist because of her carnival kick move.
I always compare her to women we see in classic Wuxia films like Michelle Yeoh in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon especially since we don’t have a character of that vibe right now, I even think of Ty Lee and Mai from Avatar when I think of comparisons or Neji and Hinata from Naruto. Can take her the route of young upcoming champion like she was before or the MKX route of a wise leader of her village with experience behind her.
Her brief appearance in MKX actually had a lot of vharm to her they even gave her a fun dry sense of humor when it came to her basically making fun of Johnny lol. There’s also tons of weapons they could experiment with and I do believe wind and fire wheels could work amazingly on her or even smaller hidden weapons to keep a low profile protecting her village would be really neat too.
I just really fell for this character growing up I always have a soft spot for the tragic character types. Plus her aesthetic in general is extremely appealing for me. It’s a shame she keeps getting completely shat on!
Also people seem to forget the ONLY REASON SHE TURNT EVIL IN MK DECEPTION was because her soul was partially transferred to the soldier, Bo’ Rai Cho showed up a bit too late.

Nitara is someone I'd be happy to see again. Her design is pretty unique among the cast and surprisingly despite all the bikini ninjas in MK history there has never been a succubus-type character. She's also one of the only characters to have wings. Though with Skarlet being so prominent I doubt they'll add another "blood mage".
Add Chameleon and Khameleon to the list I would say Meat and Mokap as well despite the two being somewhat joke characters.
Chameleon is my all time fighting game character because i loved his design and gameplay in mk armaggedon. BUT HE NEVER CAME BACK DUDE WHY HE WAS SO INTERESTING.

Honestly I think Drahmin would be a great addition to the roster. There's something visceral and intriguing about him that could make him an interesting character. He could make for a very terrifying character if done right.

Dairou is actually well remembered for having the most busted unblockable attack in the franchise
Mokap has legitimately brilliant lore. He was the stunt actor that Midway hired to make the character animations for the Mortal Kombat games, which means he is canonically able to perform every move in the series. In Armageddon, he decided to enter the tournament himself because he basically entered and won multiple simulated tournaments.

I don't believe Li Mei was actually killed in her Deadly Alliance ending. She was rescued at the last second by Bo Rai Cho, but not before a piece of the soul of an undead statue had tainted her. That's the reason her Deception ending has her turning traitor. She was corrupted

Kai and Li Mei are very underrated. Kai was meant to be Liu Kang's protégé and Li Mei was the actual protagonist of Deadly Alliance and was even the canon winner of the Deadly Alliance tournament.
I'd like every failed MK character to get revamped and redeemed. Kai has a lot of potential simply because of his handstand/walk. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned as it's pretty funny and the only thing really memorable about him. I'd love them to really lean into that. MK is best when it's silly.
Kira for sure, would love to see her return. Was my main in climbing the old online ranks of Deception. Honestly I liked her look, and her backstory only needs a little bit of sprucing up to be decent. Give her a new moveset where she isnt just a Sonya and Kano hybrid and she's got a shot at being a good character.

I could see Mokap returning as an easter egg, my idea would be have him in a new friendship for Johnny Cage. Like have it be a set up where Johnny is performing an uppercut as if hes doing his og fatality, but his opponent doesn't causing Johnny to tell him "This is the part where you fall down" before yelling Cut in frustration, the lights turn on and the background turns into a green screen with the opponent replaced with Mokap and the camera pans back to reveal an annoyed film crew before Johnny goes "Where do you get these guys?" I think it'd be a neat one you get a 2 for 1 movie nod and mokap cameo

Here are some ideas on how to fix some of the 3D era Black and Red Dragon characters:
Kobra - Emphasise his brutal kickboxing style and maybe give him a hidden boot blade that can inject the opponent with poison. Also I’d have him use something like a spiked bat as a weapon as well.
Kira - Make her a heel wrestler who turned to crime after stabbing her rival to death in a match. This way her moveset has a core theme “being women’s wrestling” and she isn’t just a Sonya x Kano clone. I got the idea of making her a wrestler from Sonya’s old kiss move that Kira then stole. It reminds me of a cheating technique used by heel wrestlers when they spit out mist in their opponents faces to blind them. She could also incorporate her knife play into her wrestling like getting the opponent in a chokehold before stabbing them in the stomach multiple times.
Jarek - Make him the Black Dragon’s main arms dealer with a moveset that utilises all sorts of illegal technology like lasers, landmines, chemical weapons and molotov cocktails. He could also keep his lasso but with more unique techniques rather than just the standard scorpion spear. Personality wise, he sees himself as an important part of the Black Dragon and sees Kano as his equal but after briefly being unable to his job after sustaining an injury he is shocked to find that the syndicate has been running fine in his absence, with him being replaced by a much more competent dealer. He wishes to move back up in the ranks and prove himself.
Hsu Hao - Have Hsu Hao be this mighty warrior that didn’t realise a war he was fighting in was being profited off by the Red Dragon. One fateful day he falls in battle and is revived by the Red Dragon at the cost of needing a cybernetic heart to survive and now he feels loyal to the red Dragon thanks to them reviving him but he also despises having to live with the reminder of his initial defeat in the form of his new heart. As for his moveset, What if he was a stance change character who had the option to take his heart implant out, increasing his speed and giving him more specials and strings based on Mongolian wrestling but at the cost of beginning to take damage over time before he puts it back in. With the heart he could have lasers, his old bouncing projectile, a move that draws the opponent towards him, an energy ball trap, the option to charge up his specials to make them stronger and maybe some Senator Armstrong inspired moves that use nano machines to harden his body and armour through attacks like Zangief’s V-Skill.
Mavado - Get rid of the Hookswords and replace them with regular dual swords but Keep his spiked boots and grappling hooks. Play up his arrogant personality by giving him a bullfighter theme, using flashy swordplay and utilising his black cape in an “Ole!” style counter.
I get that in order to fix some of these characters you need to give them stuff that Kano already uses in MK11. This actually highlights a small problem I’ve had with some character’s movesets as of late. It feels like Netherrealm keep cramming movesets with unnecessary things that don’t fit the character. For example, Johnny Cage’s most famous line is that people assume he uses special effects but he IS the special effects, yet in MK11 he uses stunt doubles and cameras . Sure Kano fights dirty and I can definitely see him bringing in hidden knives but there are more than one way to fight dirty. Kano seems more like a “kick em while they’re down” ,poke them in the eyes and bring a knife to a martial arts tournament kinda guy not a “Random Bullshit, Go!” kinda guy, y’know? Also Kano LITERALLY STOLE HSU HAO’S DRIP. That is all.
Here's my take on Kobra's adjustment... make him a main protagonist in Mortal Kombat Live Action movie. --oh wait, that's Cole Young.
You know, those are some pretty cool ideas there, especially Kobra and Kira since those were some things that I could have never never thought up for them. I also liked Mavado and Hsu Hao's as well since they have many things that you can play around with their initial concepts in order to make them more interesting.
Jarek - give him back his axe but with a chain attached this time(to compensate for the lasso). given that his main colour is bronze which is close brass, make him the brass bull(executioner) of the black dragon and make him smoke and exhale through his nose to mimic bulls. The bull theme would go very well with Mavado.
These are good ideas. I also had some gameplay ideas.
Li Mei: giving her extremely fast attacks, incredibly flexible and acrobatic moves and have her utilize pressure point attacks/parries based on her deception fatality where she can stop an Opponent from either punching, kicking, jumping or doing specials.
Ashrah: giving her specials with a voodoo doll based on her fatality, her sword and also ofuda (A mystic item) which would suit her a lot.
Drahmin: Give him an array of torturous weapons/specials since he is a tormentor of hell. Also give him specials where he takes his mask off and goes berserk and gains new attacks and goes ham on the opponent.
Kai: I think his gameplay is fine, just add more capoiera styled moves.
Sareena: in her human form idk what powers to give her but I think she should have a kusarigama, that weapon that looks like a scythe but it's on a chain. Also let her have specials where she can turn into her demon form and give her demonic abilities.
Majority of the 3d era could definitely be revamped and reach their potential gameplay wise if they were actually brought back.

Darrius, Li Mei, Shujinko, Nitara, Ashrah, Reiko, and Havik made returns with MK1, so it's highly likely other "forgotten" characters will make a come back as well. My hope is for both Chameleons to make a true and final entrance, rather than being the only 2 they cannot settle on the design and origin of.
i mean, chameleon was a kameo in the story so it is very possible
I wrote this a while back. It was reimagining of Ashrahs story, combining her old story with some new elements making her a "religious zealot." Sorry if it's long:
A demon of the Netherrealm, Ashrah found a chance at redemption when she stumbled upon a mystical sword she called the Kriss. With each slain demon, Ashrah felt the sword cleansing her soul, purifying it, and soon she was freed from the Netherrealm's grasp thanks to this sacred sword.
But, in actuality, this was no holy sword.
This was the infamous sword known as the "Datusha" and it craved one thing: Blood. Whoever wields the Datusha becomes entranced by it, worshipping it, and blinded to do its bidding. Ashrah was freed from the Netherrealm, not by virtue, but by corruption. The sword has manipulated Ashrah into cleansing the realms of "sin" so her soul would be purified enough to elevate her above even the heavens themselves. But "sin" comes in many forms and the sword cares not for who's blood it absorbs. Demon...or otherwise.
Sadly, Ashrah is not purifying her soul as she believes, but rather securing her place in the Netherrealm with each slain innocent body. Should she meet her demise, the souls of those slain by the sword will forever torment Ashrah as she descends into a darker, more wretched plane of the Netherrealm for all eternity.
And the cycle will repeat itself once more as the sword will find a new host. One that can satisfy its neverending quench for blood.

A Minor Correction: Ryo Sakazaki was the main character of "Art of Fighting", Terry Bogard was the main character of Fatal Fury. However Ryo showed up as a secret crossover character in Fatal Fury 2 Special.
Taven, Deagon and Shujinko have great potential. They should be brought back.

Facts
I want to see more representatives from different realms. Deception was dragged down by being Deception but I love the idea of mixing up "Earthrealm and Edenia good, Outworld and Netherrealm bad" by introducing Orderrealm and Chaosrealm, in addition to adding in more characters from each realm to demonstrate that they each have their own unique factions and conflicts.
Part of me wants Darrius to return (likely with some level of reworking, of course) solely so there's an updated version of his Limb Jumble fatality.
They can make so much more with Kobra. Special moves can be taken from Streetfighters Ken and his base moves and Combos an aggressive Karate style like cobra Kais karate. Make the skins better and work with the given Story and give him a New purpose

And darrius is a cameo fighter, same level of playable as jax and sonja
Also, the Ryo part is partially right. Ryo was from Art of Fighting, but he does appear in Fatal Fury Special as a secret boss.
I honestly love every character in mk except cetrion so this list saddens me a little. I love darrius’ main design and I think he could have gotten more love, I also love Jarek in armegeddon. Kai was awesome and in my opinion he should have replaced liukang in 4 and became the new champion of earthrealm. Or maybe even become the god of fire with Fujin and raiden. Tsu hao was my favorite DA character style wise. Personally I’d love a armegeddon 2 with a updated roster

Honestly it’s most likely just due to the fact that I find her playstyle to be painfully boring, just zone zone zone. She has no combos and is the most boring playstyle in a very boring game. (I’m not a huge fan of mk11) if she could have a slightly more varied style, like maybe some more “face to face” options then maybe I’d like her more but in the end I had no desire to play her and just set her to ai in the arcade ladder.

She does have some fun mixups though if you play her more rush down. Using deadly winds up close can give you plus frames. Then using the teleport as well can help with keeping them guessing. I think she can be played differently, it just makes her lower tier. I deal with it because I like her design.

Where as cetrion can get a nice 5 hitter for like %20 which is ok but it’s only one combo. To be fair most of mk11 feels pretty stale and blocky. It’s like the sf5 of mk.
Coming back to this after M1K’s release, I find it hilarious how much of this has dated either very well or very poorly. Li Mei is back as an actual character with a real story. Darrius is at least in as a Kameo. Kai is mentioned in an intro, potentially for some manner of setup with him in the future. And your prediction about Dairou was actually very true; his name and story has been given to Havik, which means the separate character in the way he existed prior is never coming back.
Ashra, nitara, li mei, and serena should sll come back.

The 3D characters have a special place in my heart. They may not be very cared for or remembered, but I still will always love them.

Kira. She suffered greatly from being TWO characters that didn't appear in Deception. I believe everyone who wants to see her again agrees she needs a moveset overhaul. While her character as a concept isn't itself bad, she was done dirty by the developers because of the narrative demise of several legacy characters in Deception.
I always refer to Kira as “That hot redhead who’s the lovechild/fusion of Kano and Sonya.”
As for Kobra, “That guy who’s the love child/fusion of Ken Masters and Johnny Lawrence with a bit of Draco Malfoy’s attitude.” Also, a wannable evil Johnny Cage.
Not gonna lie, Kira ALWAYS annoyed me because of the fact that multiple times in MKD’s Konquest you fight her… while bleeding out. This stipulation is already bad enough, but the majority of the time it is against such a lame character only makes it worse. Sure, you have one of those against Shang Tsung, Mileena, Kobra, Baraka and Havik, a couple against Sindel, but for Kira it’s three fights. In fact, there’s only ONE fight against Kira in MKD’s Konquest that ISN’T a “defeat her before you bleed to death,” it’s in Edenia. But guess what? That fight forces you to somehow beat her… in 15 seconds (the game also throws this same stipulation against Ermac in Orderrealm, yet it never seems as irritating). Even worse than the Kobra one in Edenia, where you must do it in 30 seconds and you do only half damage.
So yeah, they’re both lame and annoying, but to me Kira was more annoying one and Kobra was the lamer-designed one. So it becomes a “pick your poison,” kind of choice with those two.

Li Mei was "Such wasted potential" as Master Blueberry Ice once famously said. I loved her gameplay in Deception, her design was also really interesting.

Li Mei's kind of an interesting case with all the things that happened with her:
Deadly Alliance: Yeah, she died, for maybe like half a second before Bo'Rai Cho saved her. The short contact with Onaga's army corpse sort of raised her fighting spirit and loyalty to Outworld.
Deception: I'll admit, I really hated this ending too when I was younger, because I really do like Li Mei as a character. Years later...it KINDA makes sense? Again, the transfer to that corpse for like a microsecond likely instilled some loyalty in Onaga, the ruler of Outworld.
MKX: Because of all the changes made to the timeline, Li Mei never gets a chance to train to fight, because it was Shujinko that trained her as the events of Deadly Alliance was happening. She basically beat up Kano, gets invited to the fake tournament, then Shujinko offers to train her to fight to enter it. Because there's no Deadly Alliance with Shang Tsung's death and transfer into Sindel, there's no enslaving of her people, and she never has a reason to ever fight.
I STILL don't understand why she's basically evil in Battle of the Realms, though. Or why she's fighting in the events of MK2. Also should have mentioned her being the first casualty in Armageddon. THERE'S some disrespect.
I'd like to see Ashrah and Taven come back. Ashrah had a very unique design & story and I disagree that people called her a female Raiden.
As for Taven, the fact that he's an Edenian demi-god who is on Earth Realm is interesting and although he was mentioned in Kenshi's MK10 ending and seen in MK9 during Raiden's Flashback, he's not really in any of the games. I'd love to see him make a return.
It also doesn't hurt that I named my dog Ashrah and my cat Taven (they seemed to live up to those names).

Ashram is very cool indeed. Her story is unique and the fact thart she got to ascend from Netherrealm to a literal Heaven is sick. Also, is Heaven a realm of its own or coexists with Netherrealm?

On MK11, my kombat kard is Darrius going against Hotaru. I was hoping that was a hint that they would be dlc along with Sareena and Mokap because they're also a kombat kard. I really hope they bring back some Deadly alliance and Deception and a few armageddon kharacters. I want to see Chameleon, Mavado, Blaze (deadly alliance version), Ashrah, Drahmin, and Motaro in MK12. I'll play the shit out of those kharacters. They deserve some love 🖤

Heyo, here's me trying to redeem these characters by going over them and finding ways to make em work. Note, this might end coming across as retconning or remaking them ground up:
- Darius could use some visual touch ups like tattoos or similar, I'm not the biggest expert. That said, his moveset should be orderrealm military inspired. Have him use technology not seen in this world being used in normal fashion, which is different than Hotaru, who's more traditional fighter. Have him take Blade reference into the next level, by giving him abilities and tools similar to him, while also leaning into matrix style fight. Also, use him to bring up oppression found in Order realm, while also showing him as a hypocrite.
- Dairou has a problem of being too similar to Scorpion. Really, he should be the sympathetic Order realm character, since neither Notaru nor Darrius are. His moveset are also should be made least technology heavy, using close range combat with his only weapon being pretty standard. Have him also be the main representative of Bajiquan style moveset, or more power style martial art unlike Jeet Kun Do and Wing Chun style of the Shaolin (I know Li Mei used it too, but maybe she should focus on flowy style like Tai Chi instead). His powers should be quick spells, aside from power attacks.
- Kai literally needs to focus on his Capoiera to be different from Liu Kang. Also, color his fire differently, like blue for example, make him stand out. Otherwise, make his story about being someone who has to put Liu Kang and Raiden in check after they had screw up one too many times.
If that doesn't work, make him on of the sons of the fire God, like Raiden, looking to understand who he is and living with Shaolin Monks. Whether he becomes one or not is separate, have his story bridge what makes a God different than a human.
- Jarek should become the MK Movie Kano. And yes, by that I do mean that smarmy bastard you all love. You can't really have him replace the original Kano, so why not have Jarek get Amnesia and be cursed by magic of Quan Chi or Shinnok, where he is slowly getting powers similar to Kano, but will get more powerful if he submits himself to them, which in turn means he'll have to betray Sonya and special forces.
- Kobra literally has to lean into Street Fighter for one. As for two, make him a rival to Liu Kang. Like Shang Tsung found the young kid capable of matching Liu Kang and hid him in order to take down after so many defeats. Have him be as young as kombat kids too, if you want.
- Kira can be made Harley Quinn like in moveset. Make her focus on taming and using animal companions alongside her weaponry. Have her play off of Kobra with that too.
And those are my two cents.

More seriously I actually think that if any character has a chance of coming back is him, this is based entirely on the fact that "Cobra Kai" is a hit so someone at Netherrealm is probably thinking that maybe they could capitalize on it by bringing him back while voiced by William Zabka.

I wish they gave Dairou more depth. I found him to be a good character to play as, one of the stronger one's in Deception. A lot of untapped potential.
Kobra alternate costume from deception looks like Jin's hoodie from tekken 4 and 7 combined togheter
Also Shujinko could be very interesting if he comes back- he copies special moves like Shang Tsung does, but he also has his own fighting stances
And not to mention that he has the easiest most damaging kombo in deception(Mantis b2-Li Mei spin kick-Liu Kang bicycle deals 42% damage)
While not as damaging, my favorite combo to use was Spear, then the style branch combo “Perfection,” then the style branch combo from Shaolin Fist while they are in the air. Or use the Bicycle Kick in the air instead of the second combo.

Netherealms should bring Jarik back and capitalize on his unintentionally hilarious ending and scream.
They could make him a comic relief character.
An over the top clumsy, self aggrandizing, screaming guy, who you beat up during story mode and can laugh at how pathetic he is.
A lot like Dan from StreetFighter.
Like imagine the ending of such a guy.
He somehow kills the bad guy and claims the plot device and no one believes that he did it. So he wants to use the plot device on everyone else, only to somehow stumble and die.
There could even be funny interactions for when other characters talk and mention him. Something like:
Johnny: “black dragon must be going through some tough times”
Kano: “how so business is booming?”
Johnny: “and all you could afford was Jarik?”
Or
Jarik: “I am here to kill your and take over the Black Dragon”
Kano: “no idea who you are. New hire?”
Jarik: “I’ve been here for like 15 years.”
Easy now darrius is on mk1 (2023)
