Column shifter 👍. The subtle changes between this XD and the first incarnation is what makes this a much nicer looking truck. The Pro4X package looks beefy without looking overwrought.
Where did the Cummins go? Was it a junker? Never followed its reliability. I have a 2005 Armada with the 5.6 v8 and it’s been the toughest motor. We have towed and hauled for 207k miles so far and our 5.6 still sounds like new. Cool ass truck. I love it
It wasn't problematic, it just didn't offer anything because Nissan didn't beef up the truck to make use of it. Payload and towing suffered by the numbers because of its extra weight.
@@c0ldyloxproductions324 Companies don't usually discontinue something that sells well. The reason it didn't sell well is because Nissan didn't build the Titan XD up enough to offset the extra mass of the powerplant, which in turn reduced capability compared to the otherwise identical gas version. Consumers aren't really very interested in the Titan in general, let alone an XD and even less so a diesel XD that can't even do what a gas XD can do. Cummins would have gladly kept manufacturing the powerplant if Nissan kept buying it.

@Tony Melo bullshit this cummins is not a bad engine at all for towing.. it pulls a 3400 pound c5 Corvette on a 6500lb trailer like it's not even there. I dont understand why everyone is ragging on the power output, with a pedal commander it does a great job.

Yeah that side by side is 1,500lbs max. And that’s being extremely generous. So that trailer must be the heaviest trailer known to man. We are talking like 8500-9000lbs for a standard bumper pull trailer. You guys need to fact check Nissan on their numbers.
Nah, it's close to 2000. My 2 seat RZR XP turbos are over 1200 and they are high performance sport models. That was a diesel utility model. I agree with everyone else on the trailer not being 8000 lbs though unless it's made of lead.
@@bobgoat5994 sounds right. 1200 - 1500 is high performance model territory. I still don't see that trailer weighing 7600 lbs though. I don't think my 32 foot goosneck doesn't weighs that much.
People love their V6 F150 (that has lighter axles and less weight than the Titan) and claim it tows more but the reality is the Titan blows all 1/2 ton trucks out of the water in 2023. Less MPG? Yes But it’s a true V8 with V8 torque on 4,000+ lb axles with some nice weight to the truck. Put the max tow F-150 up against a base Titan non XD. I would bet my money the Titan would be the better, safer ride. Twin turbo V-6 Tundra? No thanks. Anyone who says the Titan isn’t a good truck hasn’t driven the newest versions. It’s the best. No marketing. No hype. Just a true to what truck ought to be V-8, tough to the bone.
Love the videos but there's no way possible that trailer is 8,000 lbs. My goose neck that's 24ft. and built good is 6,000lbs. Nissan is definitely lying about 10k, the trailer and side by side is going to be closer to the 6-7k weight.
I agree...that trailer empty is nowhere near 8,000 lbs. My 25' Anderson deckover (rated at 14,000 lbs GVW) weighs 4800 lbs. empty. My 25' Moritz deckover (rated at 12,000 lbs GVW) weighs 4500 lbs. empty.
@@truckguyjoe atleast other people see it also what a gimmick to sell trucks for Nissan and it's still a half ton I'd still but one of the big three any day, not as much lying!
There’s more to 8-10 speed transmissions. It’s not just about the first gear and top highway gear. It’s probably most importantly about the more adequate steps in between first and last gear available. More steps throughout the ratio range allow an engine to stay where it makes most power and/or efficiency. Less gears generally mean larger steps and more falling out of engines best power.
I have a place in my heart for Datsun/Nissan ( I started with the Datsun vehicles ) because they made such great vehicles over the years. Now this Titan is 'starting' to show some badly needed changes and upgrades, of course my main interest is and always has been, the Frontier class of pickup trucks, I am patiently waiting to see what Nissan will do for this older model,...( yes the Frontier is considerably older than the Titan ) .engine /transmission first, I hope. This was a good 'teaser' style video Andre and Stephen,...keep 'em coming!
Andre, great honest review on the new Nissan Titan XD. I am a 2016 Titan XD Platinum Reserve 4X4 Cummins 5.0 Diesel owner and I can tell you it's been a great truck and I feel that I got a great truck at a great purchase price ( I aggressively negotiate every vehicle I buy I don't pay sticker). Did the truck have some some issues up front? Yes, (transmission shifting, dead pedal) but what all new vehicle doesn't I'm talking about all the big 3 manufactures, yes they do. But, I can tell you honestly now Nissan has figured both my issues out and my truck runs and drives great. And yes, the Titan XD doesn't tow 20,000 or 30,000 lbs. loads but I don't need or want that. Instead, my XD Cummins diesel tows my 28 foot Jayco camper comfortably and effortlessly with all my camping stuff and four passengers in total comfort with no white knuckle driving. LIke you said it bigger, heavier and longer wheelbase than the regular Titan so the means easy effortless all day towing gas or diesel. So, I am a "happy camper" no pun intended... Anyways, I think people get wrapped up too much in all the numbers and bragging rights of these trucks and they don't realistically think about what they really realistically need out of a truck. I can see if you are pulling a giant heavy 30 plus foot fifth wheel camper or if you are a contractor with a heavy duty fifth wheel steel trailer loaded with a tractor or some other earth moving equipment. But, for me I feel my Titan XD is perfect and its a confident towing, great every driving 5/8's truck. Nissan just didn't market this truck correctly in 2016 and I don't think they are marketing it correctly today; which is a shame because it is a very competent good driving truck and it is not like all the rest. Which I like its uniqueness. I hate driving something that I see when I turn every corner or stop at any store.
Some people may get confused and videos like this make these trucks loose customers but the bottom line is if your gonna tow something that heavy get a 3500 this truck competes with the best of them if you just wanna tow a boat if you just want to style and look good get a ram trx or a Nissan warrior this is perfect for me and my lawn service
At 15% hitch weight it would be a touch over 12,100 lbs if my math is correct. That's eliminating any cargo at all of course and using the entire 1900 lbs for the trailer.
I wish Nissan differentiated the XD Titan a little more from the regular Titan. It looks the same but check out its rear axle and brakes. XD brakes are HUGE and the frame is thick. The XD is amazing, best towing for the price. And best features for the price. Great discounts too :) That 11k is real 11k. Therefore, perfect for family travel trailers. (5-8k). It is about confidence while towing and not just nameplate towing capacity!
I agree...that trailer empty is nowhere near 8,000 lbs. My 25' Anderson deckover (rated at 14,000 lbs GVW) weighs 4800 lbs. empty. My 25' Moritz deckover (rated at 12,000 lbs GVW) weighs 4500 lbs. empty.
Jerry Leung Nissan makes it on purpose, higher payload means compromise to comfortability. Most of RV owners do not tow on a daily basis but drive it as a commuter car. XD rides so smooth and comfortable
The rest of us could not do what these guys do. See, they have spent years driving new vehicles and with every part of their body feeling the differences in each one's ride quality and style. So basically Andre has a finely tuned rear end.
Why do people think so highly of the big 3 when all the new half tons on the market are ALL the SAME?! Idiots. This seems like a great product from Nissan, my first gen was awesome.
Regis Riley , marketing and buyer incentives. If I can wait out the rush on a new one and catch an end of year deal and my local big 3 aren’t dealing then maybe...MAYBE I’ll go talk to the folks at Nissan or Toyota
Marketing. Ford runs commercials three times an hour on multiple shows. I think if Nissan spent a year inundzting consumers they'd have a pretty good year.
C Steele I agree with both yall. Nissans marketing is very bad and it has been for a long time. But I have to say I would take this over one of the big 3 with the kinds of deals you can find and the toyota being so old compared to all the trucks. Marketing is everything sometimes.
I LOVE the exhaust note, the badging and the whole Pro 4x look with the dark/truck color scheme. The phone holder is really cool too. Another thing I LOVE is the steering wheel transmission shifter! Man, I am loving this truck! I have to see how the MPG compares to the competition but I'm really considering this truck. I hope they make a super crew cab with an 8ft bed though. Does it have powered outside mirrors that extend electronically? Can you verify on your next video if we can get it in this exact setup with an 8ft bed?
so will you own one? what do you drive now and would you prefer this over what you have now? i drive a tacoma now but this truck is some nice and doesn't sound like a sewing machine. i get a warm fuzzy feeling when i see this thing...lol i never thought i would own a nissan
This truck is flat beautiful in that color......And the engine sounds AMAZING....can that exhaust be stock, or even legal? I'm tempted to buy one, just to help Nissan out a little bit.
I had one, it was terrible. I was not surprised that they killed it. There were just zero redeemable qualities. This updated gas/trans XD looks pretty good. But you can just buy a 1500/150 that'll have similar #'s, and be overall, a better truck.
@fastlanetruck i love watching your videos and between all theses new trucks its hard to pick witch to get there really good and show how hard you can push your truck id love to see the new 2020 titan on the ike against all new trucks coming out
I own a 17 Titan with the Cummins. It’s not the 5.6 beast but so far it’s been a good truck. I am a bit disappointed with the quality of some parts though. The paint and clear coat is really thin to where I already have some fading coming in and chips everywhere (and I wax my truck after every wash!) The hood makes a squeeky rattle every time I close the doors to the truck. The interior backseat dome light is already acting up (had to unplug because it wouldn’t turn off) The fuel pump started to leak but was fixed by Nissans bumper to bumper warranty. And just today the chrome door handle cover that goes over the keyhole fell off. The clips that hold it in place broke. Never had these quality issues with my 17 Ecoboost that I sold for the Titan. On the flip side! The truck has plenty of towing power and feels way more sturdy than the F150. The seats are the most comfortable I’ve had in a vehicle. The sound system is excellent. And I get 18 MPG combined which isn’t the bad considering the weight of the truck and the V8 diesel.
Yes the mainstreamers need to drive this truck before they talk this truck is so underrated for what its capable of Nissan should really up the tow numbers ive pushed towing weight on this truck many times with no problem.
and the lack of limited slip makes Titan XD useless … especially when you couldn't get the highest trim level with the crappy electronic slipping brake lsd wannabe shit.
I can and do tow 10000 lbs. with my 2006 titan. it's rated for 9500 lbs. does a good job. no need for a diesel. refuse to buy 4 dollar diesel and then buy a large can of DEF, whatever that is.
You don't need to buy cans of DEF. Truck stops pump it. Being facetious though as you clearly don't need a diesel, nor does anyone else in the half ton sub-10k towing space. It's an expensive hassle every way you look at it.
@@dufus2273 Possibly part of it. Also it didn't offer significant advantages over the gasser regarding capacity. I don't remember the exact numbers but the extra weight of the diesel canceled out payload and/or towing to make it basically a wash. People (like me) will put up with the hassles when there's a payoff. Eg the 30k gooseneck towing of my dually. For a commuter it's just stupid. For what it's worth, I won't even drive my dually unless it's going to do some work. Emissions diesels don't like short trips. I got a gas car for groceries and such.
If you close your eyes while playing this video, Arnold Schwarzenegger might be selling you a truck. Just need to throw in a, "This truck will Pump...You...Up!" Thanks for the video. I'm looking to upgrade from my 05 Titan for a small farm truck and minimal towing jobs.
I also wonder. Their former CEO fled Japan and is now in Lebanon 🇱🇧. A salesman from one of our local.Nissan dealerships called our house. He said they have a new warranty program. If they do all of the scheduled maintenance then there is a forever warranty. Nissan would cover everything bumper tot bumper. Really? How long is forever in the Nissan world.
Titan's 5.6 has always sounded like an old muscle car. Titan and Tundra have some of the best sounding modern exhausts but the rest of them are second-tier vehicles. They're just not competitive with Ford, Chevy, or Ram and that 5.0 V8 Cummins was a surprisingly bad engine. And Titan is dropping the diesel when Ford, GM, and Ram have baby diesel for their half tons. Nissan's last diesel stopped being sold around 2013 when the Y61 Patrol was discontinued. Toyota has the brilliant 4.5 L 1VD-FTV and 2.8 L 3L I4 (diesel). I still think the 3.0 L 1KZ-TE I4-T is the better engine but the 2.8 does get better mileage and is more modern.
Yeah nissan really screwed up stopping the diesel. Pretty much every xd inside on the road is a Cummins. And now that the big 3 have smaller diesels in their half tons it would make it even easier to market the xd because its has more power than the half tons, albeit at the expense of worse fuel economy, but drop that rear end from a 3.91 to something between a 3.46 and a 3.73 and the fuel economy would be much better and it would still tow good.
its a shame that trucks nowadays are forced to put adaptive cruise, lane keeping assist, blindspot, and auto braking as standard equipment. just makes for even lazier drivers who wont pay attention to the road cuz they think truck will do it for them. also just more electrical shit to fail
Gustavo Saldana it’s probably best to imagine a production warrior competing with a Raptor or Ram trx, both trucks where the basic model already has a solid customer base. The Titan needs to build up a decent sized core audience before any of us could even dream of the Warrior becoming reality. It is most likely to remain what it was, a CONCEPT. I’m not sure why so many people expect a concept truck to be exactly what comes to production, it’s a design study and not much else.

Ford F-250 6.7 Super are you one of those “gotta have a new truck every 2 years” guys? 22.8 mpg hwy? How fast were you cruising? You’re not just inflating your numbers are you?
I've got a 22 XD Pro-4X and LOVE it. Great power and torque, rock solid, comfortable but still "trucky," carries and hauls a ton. Huge bed, huge storage area when seats are up. Decent gas mileage (@ 17 blended). I'd but it again in a skinny minute and don't understand why it's not more popular. It's the perfect "tweener" truck between 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton.
I've had my 2008 Titan half ton since 2012, and have both worked the truck at 12,000lbs towing (hauling a load on a trailer for all those cock suckers that know 12k wouldn't work in the back of a Titan) and did all the maintenance. Not seeing much from the Titan line after all these years except for that diesel.
I wish they could have made the Cummins work properly but the truck looks great after the refresh I really like the new interior and the headlight update very similar to the f150 now
I did see somewhere online where you could purchase a larger tank reasonably. Was looking into it when I was thinking about deleting the def system and using that extra space for a larger fuel tank.
Maybe a little detail, but the tow hook « opening » are install wrong way... If cable/sling escape or the tow hook « open » on load: slapback on someone near the truck
Regis Riley ....Spot on, Nissan needs to stop trying to sell a 1/2 ton truck as 3/4 ton truck. Either do it or don’t , can’t make a hybrid truck. consumers are going to see right though it. My friend bought an F150 to pull his camper, he was enamored with the towing numbers of the 3.7 ecoboost, two weeks into his retirement and sight seeing adventure down the east coast, he pulled into a Ford dealer traded in his F150 for an F350. He said it was not the pulling power that had him white knuckle driving, it was going downhills, staying on the road during windy days, and rainy days.....etc. These 1/2 ton trucks are basic work trucks, that’s it!
Bristol Daffern not sure if you owned one or just seen one post about it. No issues in Canadian winters with mine. -30 starts are nothing! Also power isn’t all that bad. It’s not a big three (I paid about 20% less for my truck then a comparable ford). But it does have plenty of power. Now the cons Fuel mileage is comparable to the big three without the power. Transmission has a lot of tuning issues. The transmission works great itself but they didn’t put a thermostat in it so until it’s warm it does some funny things. Cummins and Nissan ended there relationship because Cummins couldn’t afford to produce a engine only selling 5000 units. Nissan really banked on selling 20-50k of these trucks a year and fell short of that by a lot!!! I’m sure the factory Cummins setup for that production and layoffs that ensued along with a hit on there share holders forced them to call it quits. That along with the need for the motor to make more power and to have better emissions. Why would cummins invest in a motor that isn’t selling. It just wasn’t a smart business move to continue. Nissan needs to develop a in-house diesel motor. Come out with a 2.5 and 5.5 diesel motor. One for the frontier and the other for the Titan Xd. 230 and 380 hp along with 499 and 810 torque would have the world buzzin!!

I love my 2017 Titan SV 4x4 CC and my 2013 with same trim level. Both have been great and pull like work horses and ride great on long trips. No issues with both.
I love my 2021 Nissan Titan. I didn’t get an XD but my truck does exactly what I need.
Column shifter 👍. The subtle changes between this XD and the first incarnation is what makes this a much nicer looking truck. The Pro4X package looks beefy without looking overwrought.
Awesome truck. Is more american than the competitors.
@@dchawk81 actually the main reason is cummins discontinued the engine
the only reliability issue of the diesel was the turbo some how kept blowing the blow off valve which is an easy fix just get a better blow off valve
@@dchawk81well nissan marketing didnt do so well but cummins didnt really want to keep the engine even before making the contract with nissan if nissan didnt make that contract we wouldve never even seen the 5.0 liter cummins in any truck

I appreciate the stereo information. Good sound is important
That cant be 10,000..., I have a very similar trailer and with two side by sides on it it doesn't even weigh 9,000lbs. I am looking forward to a TFL towing test since I know it will be closer to the real weight. Not a believer our 45 foot trailer only weighs 5,140lbs unloaded.
I much prefer my 17’ Pro-4X Cummins because I use it a lot for its added capabilities from the regular Titan, but damn this new gens interiors so much nicer. Too bad it’s not as capable without the 5.0 Cummins.
The Cummins kills the payload capacity of the XD, what's the point
@@davem7722 most people tow with the truck. Interestingly most people that comment on the Cummins never owned one. It is funny how when you drive down the road and see most XD's they are diesel. I actually own a diesel XD and not commenting like most do that doesn't own one.
@Tony Melo bullshit this cummins is not a bad engine at all for towing.. it pulls a 3400 pound c5 Corvette on a 6500lb trailer like it's not even there. I dont understand why everyone is ragging on the power output, with a pedal commander it does a great job.

As a original owner of a 2004 Titan LE still don't find this new truck as good as it should have been. The design in & out is not as good as the original truck , though is better than 2016!! It should have been with bigger Cummings engine , console shift & sportier suspension & that would do it for me & 1000's other guys ! The prices are still too high they have to be more price-competitive to get back into the market

People love their V6 F150 (that has lighter axles and less weight than the Titan) and claim it tows more but the reality is the Titan blows all 1/2 ton trucks out of the water in 2023.
Less MPG? Yes
But it’s a true V8 with V8 torque on 4,000+ lb axles with some nice weight to the truck.
Put the max tow F-150 up against a base Titan non XD. I would bet my money the Titan would be the better, safer ride.
Twin turbo V-6 Tundra? No thanks.

Now this Titan is 'starting' to show some badly needed changes and upgrades, of course my main interest is and always has been, the Frontier class of pickup trucks, I

I hate driving something that I see when I turn every corner or stop at any store.
brianberes what did they do to fix the dead pedal and transmission shifting?
@@kcguy4025 All software updates. Drives like a new truck. I'm happy.

I wish Nissan differentiated the XD Titan a little more from the regular Titan. It looks the same but check out its rear axle and brakes. XD brakes are HUGE and the frame is thick.

C Steele I agree with both yall. Nissans marketing is very bad and it has been for a long time. But I have to say I would take this over one of the big 3 with the kinds of deals you can find and the toyota being so old compared to all the trucks. Marketing is everything sometimes.

I had one, it was terrible. I was not surprised that they killed it. There were just zero redeemable qualities. This updated gas/trans XD looks pretty good. But you can just buy a 1500/150 that'll have similar #'s, and be overall, a better truck.
The Titan Cummins was diesel just for the sake of diesel. It didn't actually take advantage of it.

I could not tell if I was watching a video about a truck or a video focused on Andre the whole time???
It feels like people hold the big 3 to a way high standard then the other 2.
Yes the mainstreamers need to drive this truck before they talk this truck is so underrated for what its capable of Nissan should really up the tow numbers ive pushed towing weight on this truck many times with no problem.

I still think the
3.0 L 1KZ-TE I4-T is the better engine but the 2.8 does get better mileage and is more modern.
Thanks TFL. You guys rock

The only one I know of is the Anderson ultimate
its a shame that trucks nowadays are forced to put adaptive cruise, lane keeping assist, blindspot, and auto braking as standard equipment. just makes for even lazier drivers who wont pay attention to the road cuz they think truck will do it for them. also just more electrical shit to fail
But where is the warrior??
Gustavo Saldana it’s probably best to imagine a production warrior competing with a Raptor or Ram trx, both trucks where the basic model already has a solid customer base. The Titan needs to build up a decent sized core audience before any of us could even dream of the Warrior becoming reality.
It is most likely to remain what it was, a CONCEPT. I’m not sure why so many people expect a concept truck to be exactly what comes to production, it’s a design study and not much else.

Decent gas mileage (@ 17 blended). I'd but it again in a skinny minute and don't understand why it's not more popular. It's the perfect "tweener" truck between 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton.
Sounds way better than an ecotech
I've had my 2008 Titan half ton since 2012, and have both worked the truck at 12,000lbs towing (hauling a load on a trailer for all those cock suckers that know 12k wouldn't work in the back of a Titan) and did all the maintenance. Not seeing much from the Titan line after all these years except for that diesel.
@mike force Nope didn't haul it at all. Stuck about 55mph a 3 hour drive over the Arbuckle Mountains. The truck didn't like it to say the least.

Now the cons
Fuel mileage is comparable to the big three without the power.
