Being able to play online for free is one of the most underrated things about the 3ds imo. Every other console, even most back then, made you pay money to play online. But the 3ds just let you do it for free, they even let you play with people who didn’t have the game as long as you did. Can’t remember what the feature was called but it made it so much easier to play 3ds games with family and friends.
The ds tech is sadly way too old being made in 2004 then revised in 2011 and we gotta evolve and try new ideas! Nintendo innovates and the switch was a hybrid between handheld and console and we always dreamed of playing Wii u style games on the go rather than good but very outdated Mario kart 7 or smash 3ds. People like the 3ds because of nostalgia but wouldn't you want something new if they just kept doing 3ds models again and again and it couldn't co exist with the switch being way too outdated compared to the switch
@@explosivebirds756 Honestly man I don't care for like 90% of Nintendo's home console games. Nintendo may be innovative but their hardware (performance wise) is always out dated. the Switch is the only home console of Nintendo I have owned and actually used. Every Nintendo handheld I've owned have all basically been Pokemon machines with the exception of some other jrpgs.
The Portability of the 3ds is the reason why i prefer it over the Switch. It feels terrible to bring a carrying case all over the town while the 3ds you can just put it in your pocket and play it for a few minutes before closing it back up again while the Switch putting the console it's self in your pocket can work but it will be scratched up even if you could bring it in your pocket.
I love the switch but i love the 3ds too and i almost wish Nintendo had a real portable console that could fit in my pocket. Plus, and I know I'm in the minority here, I love the 3d screen and if they made a modern version of it I would buy it immediately. Maybe a switch mini (the switch lite is still too big to be portable imo) with 3d screen or a new new new 3ds or something. I just got a steam deck but it is mainly for playing around the house, not to carry with me to play in other places. I still have my modded 3ds since Nintendo doesn't want to sell their old games anymore I don't mind pirating games on it and I will continue to play my 3ds for years to come.
I didn’t like the 3DS aspect at first but I came to love it. Never hated it I just mostly ignored it but I think Ocarina of Time in 3D changed my view on it
I still play mine some how I ended up with 7 3ds consoles I even had the aqua blue one 2 months before it came out to the USA and id be at game stop and people are like wow you have that. @@NintendoJab
Agreed! For most games I played, the 3D function was a little weird, but the 3DS has the same, wonderful appeal to me that flip phones do. Open, close, put in pocket, and it actually fits in my bag and is good for casual play wherever, unlike the bigger and more awkward length switch
As an owner of every console and handheld I have to agree. While the Switch does have its nice graphics, support and easy way to play on the tv; the 3DS is objectively a much better experience. Everything from console design, themes, folders, Eshop, Music, sharing a single game between 2 consoles for multiplayer, Streetpass, AR Games, portability, Dual Screens for main game and maps/inventory and different types of gaming experiences, Free Online, Chat system, better Virtual Console, Internet Browser, Also a better Activity Log. I could keep going, but by now you should already know it was truly better. Hopefully Switch Successor will bring back these features.
The 3DS: 1) Doesn’t have joycon drift. 2) Free online 3) Wouldn’t charge you $70 for a game that could run on the PS4. 4) Games can actually run on the console (looking at you bayonetta 3 and TotK) 4) Themes and folders (customization) 5) can play GBA and DS games natively to the system. 6) You can play games in 3D (If you want, choices are still good!) 7) You can play every generation of Pokémon up to gen 7. 8) Actually portable 9) Street Pass 10) (Had) the virtual console The Switch: 1) Better graphics 2) Better third party support 3) It’s a hybrid. (Also no one actually uses that feature because it’s not very portable. However, it’s a choice so it’s still good. Just like 3D for the 3DS). 4) It has NSO (which you have to pay for and all the emulated games you have access to will be removed once the switch eshop is taken down. Too bad there is no way to own them like the virtual console). 5) Has access to the worst mainline Pokémon games in existence and okay spin-offs. 6) Has a bunch of Wii U ports C’mon guys. The switch is objectively better. It’s okay to have your preference, but the facts speak for themselves. 🤪 Edit: The switch isn’t all bad, but people overlook its glaring flaws because it’s Nintendo. It’s hard to remember, but people were really afraid that the switch was going to flop like the Wii U. As a result, it felt like there was a massive wave of toxic positivity regarding everything Nintendo switch. Reviewers who gave BotW average scores were canceled (Jim Sterling) and the 3DS was dogpiled because it existed. Nintendo TH-camrs would crap on any 3DS game that released after the switch came out regardless of wether it was good or bad. I feel like that stuff is dying down, but that was a frustrating time to be Nintendo fan (specifically if you were not a huge fanboy of the switch).
I mention in the video the switch is one of my favorite consoles of all time and that no hate was meant towards it. The point isn’t really to say 100% without question 3ds is better in every way, but rather to celebrate the points that do make the 3ds better in some ways despite being succeeded by the Switch. Both consoles are amazing, and both (like you mention) have their advantages over the other
I have a 3DS but I haven't played it in a long time. Thinking about getting back into it though. Like you said it's so much more portable than the Switch and I've never needed to buy a case for my DS or 3DS.
I recently just purchased one of the newer 3DS XL models (ahem, once again), and I just started playing Kid Icarus Uprising for the very first time. Playing it on the New 3DS XL has left me with a great experience.
Interesting video you created. Also, I think the NSL would be better if it was created with internal technology to screen share/screen mirror like smart phones. Lastly, if it was created that way it would be able to switch without the need for a dock & in a way it would be more advanced doing what the NS & NSOLED cannot.
I still prefer them both and I still carry both with me still to this day, I'm planning on getting one more 3DS which is the Black Friday version before the online functionality shuts down for real
I think the failure of the Wii U scared Nintendo so much that they played it safe and didn't go all out like they did with the 3ds. Maybe the next console or handheld hybrids will have all these or most of these features make a return. Now that the switch is a success. If you look at their track record, they do this whenever they have a successful console or handheld GB, GBA, DS, Wii and 3DS, so now with the switch we will see then go all out with features with the next device. Or, it could just be that Satoru Iwata wanted these features, and now since he's gone there's no one left to push for these ideas on newer devices(he passed away before switch was released). Let me know what you think.
I like my switch and 3ds for different reasons (if it was a face off though 3ds would win) Switch May have better games though but everything surrounding the games isn’t that great (I still love both though)
It pains me that the 3ds had so many more social features and additional apps/uses vs switch. Switch games are amazing of course but the fact you need the mobile app to do basically anything else is crazy 😅😭
You are comparing a hybrid console to a portable one and forgetting processor, graphics, etc. This is more "what I like the most about my DS that I don't about my switch". The only thing I agree to be objective is the themes argument. Makes no sense for us not to have more ways of customization. If possible, own the 2 consoles and it will be fine hehe
3DS is still better, Graphics isn't everything, 3DS has a more lively and has more personality than the bland Nintendo Switch and Nintendo actually put work into the 3DS unlike the Switch
@@Serious5GamingS5G Agree graphics isn't everything, but it can't be ignored. "Personality" is totally subjective, although I agree the Switch lacks personalization as I've already said. Saying 3DS is better due to "personality" is , more than vague, meaningless.
