I read somewhere he co-wrote this song with Bill Anderson in 1995. Well it sure it is powerful song with a topic an awful lot of us could relate to..... if we were honest. I had somebody tell me a while back that there was nothing in their life that they regretted.... Well I sure can't say that.... My life has been full of things I regret, but although I've tried to forget, I find that it can be very hard to do. I guess I could say it's one of those "crosses" I carry and will till I draw my last breath. Every time I hear or see this song I get all weak onside and look for someplace to hide... but I can't hide from me......
+Herb Houston My one major regret was getting married the first time far too young. We split after 10 years, leaving me to become an every second weekend dad. The years have flashed by and I can't regret my first experience because my children would not have been born without the two of us joining up, and, most important, my grandchildren would not be alive today.

Vince brings our feelings to home. Many of use have been there but he expresses it for all of us. Beautiful song and distintive voice that I don't find in any other artists. Pure Country music! I wish radio stations bring back Vince Gill.
So much pain makes you want to reach out and hold him but yet also beautiful - has your emotions from end to the other makes you wonder what he(the writer)was going through
The emotion Vince puts into this song changes the mood in the whole CFR room caz most have felt this sadness at one time or another in life. What a great talent Vince is and what a great songwriter Bill is............Super awesome talent like Vince is what keeps us spell bound by country music.I have sung this song many times but it never sounded like this........Thanks yankee1830 for sharing this great one.
Well I'm here again. The bridge I crossed 45 yrs. ago with the man that I left the other one for..My husband passed away 2-4-2013..He was the perfect person in every way, my best friend, perfect husband. We had so many beautiful moments and I have so many memories of our 45 yrs. together. Thanks again for posting this song. Love it.
I just lost a loved one and Vince's music has touched every vein in my heart with his music...I have always loved your music and hearing them at a time like this I am trying to find peace and sanity...never stop your music it brings joys to all your fans..I love you Vince...
Thank you yankee1830...II did know that Bill and Vince wrote this song together....Country songs like this is few and far between.....I remember so many of out beloved sings has went home..... What do you think of Craig Morgan ?????
Good ol' Bill Anderson is trying to figure out if he crossed the right bridge.... just looking at him while this song is being played tells such a personal story. Hats off to you Bill Anderson! a true legend
Vince says it perfectly he must've felt the same to be able to put it in a song. Am at the same crossroads and it's painful but true love wins out every time, best not to burn bridges.
Vince Gill is the greatest singer in country music of all time. There is no one to compare with his talent. I am glad to see him so respected and included in the classic shows.
Seems you are right Westvahillbilly, but in what way we don't know same page or been there or there now? Both are great and always will be. Thank you for seeing this.
Great voice but Vince has that geeky look with the glasses and the extra weight. When he went bluegrass it seems everything changed and the hits stopped on the charts.
omg.. i loved this! i lost my husband June 7, 2011 and life is so hard to go on. Thanks for the wonderful song, it fits me and so many others that need this.
Nice song by Vince Does anyone know who the fiddle player is? He looks like a twin of the Boys of the Lough fiddle, guitar, piano guy in the 90s John Coakley, in any case, a fine fiddler.
Yes been there and done that. 46yrs. ago and now he's up there lookin' down at me everyday. Miss him more as time goes by.. Tell the love of your life EVERY day how much you love them cuz one day they won't be here.
Thanks for being so honest Herb…We've all got crosses to carry and somehow the songs that artist like Vince sing put our feet squarely on the ground… God bless all of ya!
I wonder if this song was when he was divorcing his first wife and getting together with Amy Grant? He is a great singer sometimes it is hard to know what to do... and which bridge to cross
choose the 2nd one!! cause if ya loved the 1st you would of never started the 2nd ...

If you've never been there.....well it's hell!!!!!
