As my grandma was on her last few minutes of life in the hospital bed, surrounded by all of the family that she has held together for so long, her daughter (my aunt) started singing 'go rest high on that mountain', which was one of my grandmas favorites. Then the other daughters joined in. Eventually the whole room was filled with all of us singing this song for her, through tears and holding one another. She passed right after that. 🥺💔💕 I really wish that I had that moment on video. It was the most precious wholesome thing that has ever happened. I hope I never forget that memory.

How beautiful. My mother was bedridden for the last 6 months of her life. As her time neared. I combed her hair and washed her face and sang to her as I prepared her for the rest of her journey. She gently passed and I stayed so still and quiet as she entered eternal rest. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed. Her chains were broken and she soared.

If I may, you will never forget that moment, because her love, your grandmother’s love, that held the family together, is a thread of the legacy passed on to you, her beloved grandchild.
Let it grow in the way that only God can bring it to its fullness-through your continued love given to others. Blessings to you and showers of cool waters when you need those moments of hot tears and angst to be turned to calm and love.

Tears in Heaven MY two sons died in 1999 from the same wreck - (18 and 28) I am now 74 - I miss em so much. But the Lord just took my hand and took me through that valley! Feb of 2022 - my best friend passed - we rode our horses, decorated our homes, had so much fun. One year we rode our horses 1000 miles. Oh my! I know one day I'll see my boys and my very best friend. We'll walk by the river that we stood by, with a smile on our face, grace in our hearts, and singing Glory to the Lord Almighty... Glory to the Lord!

I am a huge fan of Eric’s and have seen him many times. I saw Eric Clapton last year in Toronto Canada, seeing and hearing him play this song live was amazing. My dad passed in Aug 1993, my parents used to go to Florida every winter and I would go and visit them while they were there. My dad & I watched the Grammy’s when Eric won for this song. After the show was over my dad & I were talking about Eric and what the song was about. My dad was such a gentle & caring man, he started to cry when I told him what the song was about. My dad had been healthy until his late 50’s when he was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease, skin cancer and a large aortic aneurysm removed from his chest. He passed away suddenly Aug 13th 1993 and I was away and arrived home to find he had passed. I played that song over and over as I had been very close to my dad and felt like I lost a part of me when he passed.

Sometimes it is not possible. I tried with my daughter who also ceased any relationship with me about five years ago. She didn't respond and told someone I was violating her boundaries by trying to contact her. She lives in another state far away, has blocked me, changed her contact information, etc. I have no way to contact her. It came out of the blue, because she knows I believe in God, after a therapist convinced her to be an atheist and that anyone who believes in God is toxic. I'm not the only one she decided to shut out of her life. But I believe she is sincere about it and in her own way searching for truth and self improvement. I harbor no negative feelings, love her dearly, and wish the best for her always. She always knew, and I'm sure still does, how much I love her. And like the commenter we are replying to, I hope that is what she will remember about me when I'm gone.

I just put down my 17 year old dog, Casper, few days ago. I'm still not ready to talk too much about him without crying, so I'll just say he was the best boy and ill miss him. I've been wandering around the house just remembering him. Been thinking of ways to honor his memory and even though I know its cheesey, I want to play something for him on guitar and this video helped me feel better and decide to do it (i was thinking of tears in heaven before this vid). Thank you, sorry for your loss, and I hope everyone has a great day. Hug your loved ones for me please. Love you Casper!

Our son died of sudden heart failure at 24 - he was out riding his bike - we never said good-bye. My wife ( MD ) has a very good way of describing grief that happened. It was like someone dropped an enormous weight on us. At first we were sure it would crush us. Over the past 10 years we have learned to carry that weight - it never goes away and it does not get less heavy but like in the physical world if you work at lifting and carrying weights you get better at. It is very hard work and sometimes you weaken and collapse again but you must go on.

I lost my 37 y/o son unexpectedly a few weeks ago. This heart wrenching loss is really more than I can bear, I have endless days of tears. No one should bury their child. It is the indescribable worst nightmare, a thousand times worse than losing my parents, sibling, aunts or grandparents. I will never be the same, I will always be Kristofer’s mother. Three songs we played, Tears in Heaven, sang by my husband while playing his guitar. My son was an avid Phish fan, attended more than 100 concerts. Our other children picked these two songs, they were so appropriate- please take a listen to Phish- I miss you and Phish - Waste (I want to waste my time with you). Kristofer was at the prime if his life after many very difficult struggles that most do not survive, he made it; a career he loved as a senior software programmer, bought a beautiful home on Lake Michigan 4 months before he passed away. He had one outstanding year after 15 years of struggle. Hundreds have told me since he passed away what an incredible person he was, loving, kind, hard working, a brilliant engineer, he helped so many with small things and big, he never talked about his good works. He didn’t seek recognition. I think God saw he struggled so, and gave him a year to enjoy the perfect life and then called his angel home. What were the lessons we were supposed to learn? Did people give him help when he really needed it? Many times they did not. As his mother and friend, I was there with him every step of the way, with nothing left unsaid between us, I love you and hugs every day. I am thankful for that. Maybe the lesson is for others who aren’t talking to their children, or helping when they really need it. Several of his friends talked to me at his funeral, as I silently wondered to myself “Did he really know how deeply I loved him”? Each of his many close friends quietly and privately said, “I want you to know Kristofer talked about you a lot, he loved you and said he knew you loved him so much”. That question that kept circulated my brain, was being answered repeatedly by his different friends. I believe Kristofer was speaking to me through them. I did and always will until the end of my life love my beautiful son.

As my father lay dying at home where we took care of him we played Christian music all during the night while we waited for him to pass. When it happened in the morning he took a deep breath and was gone and I came to his bed to check him the song How Beautiful Heaven Must Be was playing by his favorite country singer George Jones. I am so sorry for the passing of your friend . I Will keep you in my prayers! I see a lot of you have lost children. It's not right that they leave us before we go! I lost my son 2 yrs ago at age 40. He had his struggles, drugs and jail time, but at the same time, he would help anyone who needed it, give you the shirt off his back if you even liked it, or his coat if you were cold. He helped his dad with maintenance working on an apartment complex his dad owned. One day, he came home from jail, and 4 days later, I found him expired from a seizure, no drugs or alcohol in his system! I was taking chicken dumplings over to him for dinner before I had a music gig that evening! He loved his music, mostly Nirvana and some head banging music. But. Once in a while, he would break out in song and sing the Mama's and Papas , California dreaming!! So, on his headstone, I had inscribed , "All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey. I went for a walk on a winter's day!" He died Dec. 17th. My heart aches for him, and I guess I know how Mary must have felt when she lost Her son, Jesus, in the Bible. I am not the same person as before. But I can look back and remember the good times we would be singing, Black Hole Sun, and then he would switch to Calif Dreaming! It is bittersweet memories like this that I cling to and remember an old song by Harry Chapin called Circle! All my life's a circle is about the circle of life! Miss you, my son. I hope to see you on the other side.

I'm made to understand that we do make soul contracts before coming here. So your sister being the first to go so young, could be a result of that. I sang to my dad until he died. It was about four in morning and the hospital was quiet and I left the door open so everyone could hear. I had sung in church with him since I was little. That was the last time I ever sang that anyone else could hear. I just hope that he heard me in his last few minutes here with me.

As an ICU nurse(through Covid), I can attest that hearing is the last to go during the process of death. Many times I have witnessed someone tell their loved one something, or sing, or pray and the peace that comes over them is absolutely unreal. I know the patient heard them. I’m humbled and grateful to do what I do. God bless!

As my mother lay dying I was told she was totally unresponsive. I sat with her for a long time, talkin to her about all the memories we had made together and as a family. I read to her and sang to her. Every time I sang , her eyes moved. I would stop and her eyes would stop. I would sing more and ever so slightly, her eyes would move back and forth. After being there for quite a while, the ICU nurse told me I should just go home that she couldn't hear me anyway. I told her she could. The nurse told me it was impossible. I had her come over and I showed her. She tried to convince me they weren't, and if they were, it was involuntary movement. So I called another nurse and showed her. She looked at the other nurse with a stunned look and agreed with me that Mom was responding. Tears flowed as I knew my mother wasn't just lying there hearing the cold, empty noise of the hospital. The last sounds she was hearing were full of love and happiness. She passed away quietly and happy.

My husband was suddenly torn from my life 28 years ago, victim of violent crime, and the pain of that loss is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. (Our babies are now 30 and 31; they only know their Daddy from pictures, and that is another pain.) You are not alone, even if I can only send my love and hugs virtually. I once attended a funeral that ended quite surprisingly. It was a very traditional style funeral with the hymns that are always present. The final song played was Spirit in the Sky. The loud rock and roll version was Aunt Debbies choice because she wanted people to remember her in a way that wasn't sad and it worked. She was loud and happy in life and this song is loud and happy. It was the perfect choice. Its hard to be sad when I hear this song.

My mom is quite healthy other than being unable to walk, due to a freak accident when I was in fifth grade. .. She is happy, healthy, and lives a quite effective life. She told me that she would like the song “Redeemer” by Nicole C Mullen. And she would like (a local) Darren Gray to sing “Dance for Jesus.”
… Both reverent but joyful songs. 🥰 .. Personally, I have written my funeral so many times. Mainly, because I was suicidal for so many years. .. But now, my funeral songs are joyful, and grateful songs… I so love living life now. .. But yes, some funerals are so heart-breaking and twist our gut. And some are just amazing. ❤️🌹

“The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same, nor would you want to be.”

She fought for every day so that her two young children might remember their mom. Somehow her picture was sent to the Queen Latifah show in a #fightlikeagirl sighting. The sender … who none of us knew said … “have you ever seen anyone more beautiful with or without hair?” As your quote so eloquently says … “you will be whole again but you will never be the same”. I never want to be the same. Her life changed the lives of many. Her coming and her leaving were meant to change the lives of many. Thank you BK … and Elisabeth

What you were saying, just before Eric and Wills song, Tears in Heaven reminded me of praying for someone grieving, when there isn't anything enough that we can do, but praying that God will give the grieving person the peace that surpasses all understanding, that only God can give. I've experienced that kind of peace from God as we watched our 3 year old be looking be life flighted to a second hospital, and we couldn't go with our child, had to drive into Chicago, our son had internal bleeding from a car rolling down a driveway over him as he was on the sidewalk, and the car had enough momentum that it rolled over him and up into the driveway right across the street, then it rolled back down over him again, and a neighbor came running to help stop the car just as it was about to roll over him a forth time!
It was so unbelievable, it was horrible, there was blood and his diaper was in pieces still the next day when a friend went to our house to get us a change of cloths because we weren't leaving the hospital, and our friend saw that and cleaned it up. Our son's heart stopped and they brought him back 3 times in the helicopter, and as soon as we got to the second hospital, one of the trauma surgeons, rushed out to have us sign papers to operate. His spleen, pancreas and liver were bleeding and his liver was almost completely in two. They cut him open from his chest to his belly button, and the surgeons saw a miracle! They were blown away, they told us the liver us like jello and hard to stitch up, he was going to need a liver transplant immediately, which would have probably couldn't get in time to save his life. The miracle was that they watched his liver clot back together, right before their eyes! His pancreas and spleen started healing as well! The head trauma surgeon told us about it, and was just in awe! Our son was put in a controlled coma or sleep, so they could put a tube down his throat and allow him to heal. He had other things wrong with his body, like skin worn to the bone on his elbow and tire marks that couldn't be washed off, they looked like tire marks, but it was all like tire pinch marks. There's more to this, but your video just reminded me of this happening, and praying asking God for the peace of God that surpasses all understanding to guard our hearts and minds, I felt like I needed to get alone and pray at one point, surrendering our son over to God, trusting that whatever happened, I trusted God and I know I couldn't have got through everything if it wasn't for God giving me peace and unconditional love, which God has given me before. Thankfully, our son is well and is in his twenties now! I know this is long! I just felt like sharing this with you! Thank you for reading this if you've read it all to here! ❤

My son had a tumor in his brain and had surgery in June 2021 , he didn’t stay in ICU but half a day and came home from hospital.was doing great recuperating from brain surgery. All was well until we got the biopsy results and found out he had glioblastoma. The most aggressive tumor there is in the brain. He lived 17 months. My heart is broken. I love my son.

My three-year-old son, Jeffrey, died several years before Eric Clapton's son, but I think of my children every single day! I had heard that Eric's son had died, and my heart ached for him because I knew the long road of healing he faced. I was in my family room alone one day when his song Tears in Heaven came on. I can still picture it - my knees buckled, my head fell to the floor, and I sobbed. Eric's words were my words, too. I downloaded that song and have listened to it countless (COUNTLESS) times. But I now know that our children do know our names, regardless of where we are, and the tears in heaven are always tears of happiness. Great post, Michael. Perfect timing. I am worth it. You're worth it. We're all worth it. Now, if I can just forgive myself. Thank you!

My husband died early Christmas morning 3 years ago in 2020, as a result of congestive heart failure. It wasn't unexpected, it was simply a matter of when, not if. As I sat here in a silence, trying to absorb what had just happened and the numbness slowly spread, I got on TH-cam and found Casting Crowns "Scars in Heaven." So many of their songs have provided the soundtrack to my life. Listening to it was like taking a sledgehammer to a china closet. I had prepared myself for that day and yet, I wasn't ready. He had other health issues that caused him a lot of pain, making it difficult for him to walk without a cane or at the end, a walker. Like you, as I listened to the words, all of my brave front disappeared, it was no longer needed and I just let the tears come. I could clearly see the Hands that held him, free from pain, free from the difficulty of breathing. I don't listen to the song much as I'm back at his bedside watching him slowly leaving me. He told me once that he was ready to die because he knew where he was going. For me "Scars In Heaven," will forever be tied to that early Christmas morning in 2020. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sister, she was blessed to have you in her life. May 2024 be a year of healing, fond memories and peace for both of us.❤

This was the hardest video I have ever watched. There wasn't a song that didn't touch me in some way. From lost friends to suicide to loss of family and loss of love. When my wife passed from an 8 year battle with brain cancer I thought it fitting to play Good Riddance( hope you had the time of your life) as the lyrics perfectly spoke to the fork in the road 8 years before and the test of a lifetime. She made the best of her time filled with joy, laughter and yes some tears. That was 14 years ago and I still tear up when I hear that song.

I lost my lifelong friend of 62 years, college roommate, and sister of my heart 4 weeks ago. She was waiting for a new liver. She was the most upbeat, positive person I’ve ever known. But then her kidneys failed. I drove to be with her and her husband while she was in ICU. I don’t know why I expected to see my friend sitting up in the bed, I guess I just thought she would get a liver and everything would be fine. Denial is a strong emotion. But as soon as I got there and saw her, I knew it would take a miracle. The third day I was there, she started saying she wanted to go be with Jesus. She couldn’t take anymore and wanted dialysis stopped. She said it to everybody who came in the room. Her husband left because it upset him terribly. The next morning I got there and she was peacefully comatose. They had unhooked everything but oxygen and dilaudid. I had time alone with her and I played songs from her wedding and I told her it was okay for her to go. Her son (a family physician in another town) texted me and asked if I thought she really wanted to go or was it the drugs. I told him that I knew in my heart she was ready to go and he needed to come ASAP. Her daughter was also in another town nearby. Her family got there that afternoon and there were tears and laughter and I shared a few stories with her kids (I have so many from over the years, but some of them weren’t suitable to tell 😂😂). I went back to the hotel, but the kids stuck around for a while. I hadn’t slept well at all that whole week so I decided to take a Valium and drink a little wine, which I rarely ever do. Around 2-ish that morning, I woke up. I walked around the room and went out on the balcony, stood there for a while, got the strangest feeling as though I were having an anxiety attack or something. Wandered around the room some more and finally decided to try to go back to sleep. About an hour later, her daughter called me to tell me the hospital had called to say she had passed, and it was the same time I woke up and had that odd feeling. I feel certain she woke me up when she left. There’s no other explanation. One Valium knocks me out cold and I will sleep hard. I miss knowing she’s in this world and that I can call her and we can talk for hours and laugh the whole time. But I know she’s where she wanted to be and she’s healed. I must have told her I loved her a hundred times that week. I always will.

As my Dad was nearing death, I stayed at his bedside as I'd promised him I would. Our family went for food in the hospital because things were "shutting down" due to a terrible storm.
While we were alone, I began to sing Amazing Grace...some I knew, some I hummed. A few weeks after Dad passed, my Brother found a Willy Nelson cassette tape with; "for Sweetums" written on it. Amazing indeed!
I scanned down the play list to the last song...Amazing Grace

I was so very privileged to have been with my sister when she very sincerely asked our Lord Jesus to take over her life months before and experienced Holy Spirit...she was lovely when she passed with her skin so youthful looking aged 59 years.

I lost my sister when I was a child she was older then me I never knew why my parents gave me up. Then loosing the women who I was raised to be my mother I lost right before loosing my son I just know she is watching over my children with my sister. It never truly goes away. God bless everyone who ever has had to bury a child no words are ever enough until someone goes through it and then even then no one completely understands.

I have been grieving so deeply since my mother’s traumatic passing in April that I had to shut out the world in order to cope. Music has been the essence of my existence since I can remember, but I have not been able to listen to it or play it since last December. I was left so empty, as if the music itself had stopped. Today I decided to click on a music clip, the next one to play was yours. Watching you and everything you were feeling, watching you embracing your own grief was nothing short of beautiful, and in it I felt a slight release. Thank you for that, and for such a beautifully articulated message of universal love for everyone. I am truly grateful that it was brought to my attention, I have missed music so much and will forever miss my mother. You have created a moment of joy in a world in such despair, thank you.

My oldest sister passed away and we played all her favorite songs. The one that got me was “I fooled around and fell in love” she played that over and over when we were young.
