I still love the Shadow saga (SA2, SH, Shadow the Hedgehog) and REALLY hope the third movie does him justice, especially given people working on it worked in those games. The only part of 06’ that’s really canon is establishing Silver as a time cop to be a reoccurring character so he and Blaze can come back for the olympics, and just Silver for forces.

I always loved that the original series had different versions of robotic Sonic, demonstrating that Robotnik has been learning from his battles with him how to better replicate his abilities.
Idk why everyone hate 06 so much,yes,the game was awfully hurried up and i personally HATE controls,you get killed most times because of glitching,but the storyline itself is pretty interesting exactly because its so complex,only the ending is a bit eh to me,really unnecessary losing memories and stuff,i think multiple timelines stuff is rly cool thing to dive in

As a lifelong superfan of Sonic, this was great. I started with Sonic 2, getting to the level of "Super Sonic by Zone 2, ridiculous speedrun finish" levels, and once Sonic 3 came out, I knew I was hooked. Haven't played much of the newer games, but Sonic is still a hero to me, Tails is still a beloved sidekick, and blue(cerulean blue) is still my fanatically favorite colour.

@@jomppidev1845 mania happens after generations when sonic goes back to his timeline. Then classic eggman finds the phantom ruby uses it to go back in time to iconic and new zones. During that sonic finds the chaos emeralds and fights a big metal sonic and other stuff. He finds eggman in some robot spider. Sonic beats it then the phantom ruby sends him to a dimension with a three way battle between king boiled heavy. (The leader of the boiled heavies) and eggman. (Eggman uses the phantom ruby on 6 or 7 regular badniks at the start of the game on them and that's how they become the boiled heavies) sonic is in the 3 way battle too. He defeats them both as super sonic. The phantom ruby goes haywire, returning sonic into his base form then sending the chaos emeralds away then sending sonic into a portal with the phantom ruby. Sonic goes into forces and modern eggman finds the phantom ruby and then the rest of forces story happens

SA is the greatest installment of Sonic games for me, so many great memories playing as a kid.
Technically the classic games are a separate timeline and part of the modern timeline, like in Sonic Adventure there is a line where Sonic says that Eggman tricked Knuckles again. Also in Sonic Generations, Sonic and Tails both find the classic stages from the first three games too. Besides those little details, this video is great! 👍🏻

Actually, they retconned that and made it take place after Sonic 3 and kunckles so that it could be used as a prequel to Sonic 4. Sonic Mania takes place after CD.

@@HenshinAcademy I may be misremembering, but I remember the developers of sonic 4 stating that they made Sonic CD take place after Sonic 3 Saga because they weren't sure of where to put it. It was part of the reason Tails was added to the game in the XBLA and phone ports. I may have to do some digging though.

The timelines aren’t “classic” & “modern” tho. The modern games take place directly after the classic games And they didn’t mention Sonic CD, Amy & Metal Sonic’s first game. A second timeline happens after classic sonic meets modern sonic in Sonic Generations, where the timeline splits thanks to time travel and leads into Sonic Mania, Sonic Forces (classic Sonic) & Sonic Mania Plus.

Going back to the whole Sonic Forces event near the end, I've always thought that SEGA should've pulled a "Minecraft: Story Mode" and still have given the Avatar character a gender-neutral name like "Buddy" or "Rook" and an actual voice with lines and such, each voice would depend on what gender and what voice pitch/tone you have chosen for your avatar (again, ALOT like what Minecraft: Story Mode did with Jesse). I feel like it would've given the story more depth and let us get to know our avatar even more. Wouldn't you agree?

Oh, so the classic games take place in a different timeline. Riiiiiight. Never mind the fact that Sonic Adventure references both Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD.
Oh, and to answer your question, they do fix the moon. You can clearly see the moon, intact, near the end of Sonic Colors, but it's never explained when or how it was fixed. (Although, it is explained in the Sonic X anime) It's likely that SEGA simply forgot it was broken.

Two worlds is a blatant shoehorned retcon. Before Sonic Forces, it was NEVER implied that Sonic lived on a different planet once the Japanese continuity was established as the standard continuity. Sega of Japan had EVERY intention to erase the American continuity; which includes Mobius.
The earlier 3D games made occasional references that implied that the events of the 2D games happened on Earth. Sonic himself was stated to be from Christmas Island in the Japanese continuity; said island is on Earth.

"Then Sonic Adventure has Sonic on a planet of humans, without an explanation"
Which should be a big give away the games were always intended to take place on Earth (until Forces's retcon, of course). Little Planet is even referenced outside of Amy's flashback; by a random human, in the Japanese version; as if it was a part of Earth.
The problem with trying to use Sonic X as a fill-in-gap is that they had to change some details just to fit the concept of two worlds in THAT continuity (let alone things that are never mentioned outside of Sonic X; like the Egg Fort and Sonic racing against formula cars). The fact he was intended to have Madonna as a human girlfriend; until Sega of America shot down the idea, suggests humans were always intended to live alongside Sonic's species.
The early Dic cartoons were based on the american continuity; meaning they took place on Mobius. Back when the American continuity was considered canon to the North American versions of the games. Said American continuity was eventually exiled.
Planet Freedom is implied to be a future version of Earth. As in they used to live on the ground; potentially alongside humans, and then moved to the islands in the sky.
Some of the manga is probably no longer canon or wasn't intended to be canon to the games; especially the one with the early version of Amy Rose.
Sonic Boom is its own continuity. The fact there aren't many humans in that continuity may have been partially influenced by people complaining about humans existing alongside Sonic (Chris Thorndyke and Elise really provided fuel for those complaints).
IDW Sonic has mandates slapped all over it; Sega even has a tighter grip on IDW Sonic than they did with Archie Sonic. If the comic writers are required to promote Ilzuka's two worlds retcon, then they don't have much of a choice in the manner. The sonic movie seems like it is desperately trying to make it look like Yuji Naka himself planned for two worlds to exist in the Sonic games or at the very least attempt to justify the sloppy retcon; despite the earlier games going against that idea. It doesn't help Sonic seems a bit out of character in the first movie trailer; suddenly no longer caring about property damage; even though he likely holds his speed back in the games because of that.
Archie Sonic was originally based on the Sonic SatAm universe. The SatAm elements were gradually reduced over time; with the writers introducing the idea of Mobius being future Earth. With there being alternate reality versions of the planet (Anti-Sonic; eventually Scourge, being from one of those alternate worlds. Also with Robo Robotnik; who becomes modern Eggman). Ironically, Mobius's name was eventually stricken from the comics towards the end and was reduced to just being "Sonic's world". The light reboot further required the writers to make Archie Sonic more akin to the games.
In an SXSW panel last year i think they were asked this question by a fan he said ''in sonic adventure 2 the moon was destroyed in half so why at the beginning of the shadow the hedgehog opening the moon is still intact'' they would use the excuse that the moon was just facing the other direction but when they were live I think Takashi Iizuka was under pressure and simply stated that the team overlooked it. take what i say with a grain of salt but thats what i heard

thats sort of true but not really. since generations explicitly states that they're different versions, yet adventure acts as if sonic 1, 2, 3+K, and cd all still happened, the best explanation is that all the events from the classic timeline still happen in the modern timeline off screen. the creators wanted to build off of the lore and maintain past relationships and characters, and remaking those games just to put a new modern sprite in is a stupid idea. so they just made the timeline split to justify both. this is supported by the 3D green hill zone in SA2B existing in the modern timeline with slight differences to it since its 3D. the small differences is what solidifies them as seperate as well.
@@iamlordapollo I was always under the impression it was one timeline, with the different character designs simply being a change of art style. Generations even makes it clear that 'Classic Sonic' is just Sonic as a child. It's only in Forces that the implication comes that they're different characters, specifically when Tails refers to him as "that Sonic from another dimension". I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that was either a mistranslation or simply poor choice of wording either
@@Montymole_360 your are correct about generations and forces referring to classic in different ways that appear to contradict each other. I think we can all agree that this change was a result of both sides of the elitist fandoms displeasure at linking the two Sonic's together as the same character, and forces establishing them as different was a hasty patch job. What you are describing is actually how I came to the conclusion stated above. If classic is from a different "dimension" but is also Sonic as a child, we have no choice but to accept both facts as true since they come from Canon material. Therefore the only logical conclusion is that modern Sonic as a child had all the same adventures as classic, they just weren't on screen. And we're prob 3d lol
Edit: I also think it was originally intended to be one timeline, but as time went on, the difference between them became so vast that it stopped making sense, and making them two different characters was the easy solution.

@@Montymole_360 I'm with ya there my friend. If mania 2 comes out and references any of the modern games other than forces all bets are off. My hypothesis is purely based on taking the evidence given to it's natural conclusion since there is no hard proof until we see a younger modern Sonic in chemical plant zone or something. I think converting the original trilogy into 3d would be an awesome prequel game. Green Hill zone in SA2B was janky, but it supports my theory that the two Sonics exist independently while still having similar adventures. If I had to guess, id say the timeline splits after S3&K. Modern goes on to adventure 1, and classic goes to 4 and mania. In fact, I haven't played them, but maybe the advance games shed some light on the subject?
We need a game where sonic, silver, and shadow are all playable like sonic heroes but egg man accidentally creates a superhuman hedgehog using the chaos emeralds and sonic, silver, and shadow’s dna and chaos is his sidekick and the trio goes to defeat him.

I finally got Sonic CD on Steam. Can't believe I overlooked it. It's got a storyline that intrigues me. Plus, I like Amy so I can learn how they met and how she formed a one-sided crush on Sonic.
Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite game of all time. I love the treasure hunting, especially in space. Treasure hunting in space really made me love astronomy and rekindled my love for the stars!

The Moon is explained as "we're seeing the half that didn't get blown up", as in the Moon rotated 90 Degrees so that we see the moon's full shape despite losing it's other half.

Missing Sonic CD is unacceptable when it comes to a Sonic the Hedgehog timeline. Why? Because you're missing;
1 - Sonic's first time traveling adventure.
2 - Introduction of Amy Rose.
3 - Introduction of Metal Sonic.
4 - Introduction of Little Planet that appears one month out of the year over Never Lake (I mean for goodness sake, one of the first games you can play Metal Sonic for several Acts takes place on this planet).
5 - Introduction of Time Stones (and the only VG appearance of them as Sonic doesn't need to use them in Sonic 4 nor in Mania).
* Irreverent to the timeline * - The first Sonic game ( *Correct me if I'm wrong* ) that has two different sound tracks.
I'm sure there's more in Sonic CD that are a first in the timeline. Then not piecing in Mania for a Sept. 2019 video? Come on.
Sonic cd is canon because this is the first game amy rose came from. Sonic mania and forces came after sonic cd and sonic 3. Sonic and knuckles would connect to sonic adventure. The guy who made this video has alot to learn about sonic. Judging from his reactions to the story, he probably knows sonic initially from sonic adventure.
Sorry bruhs, the comics show that classic and modern sonic are from different dimensions. The "Amy Rose" that makes its first appearance in Sonic CD is acually named Rosy. The Sonic the hedgehog comics even show her and Amy as two characters on the cover of issue 194.
@@criticalsausage Rosy the Rascal is Amy Rose's nickname from back in Sonic CD (game canon). That is completely unrelated to the "Anti Amy/Rosy the Rascal" in issue 194. That's the Archie comic's addition to the Sonic Universe. Sonic Team had no mention of this anti-Amy this whooooole time and she's only been a thing since that issue came out in, what, 2007? Speaking solely of Archie comic adaptions, In Issue 25, it's clear as day that Amy was the one on the island looking for Sonic, and she's the one who was kidnapped by Metal. If it was Anti-Amy/Rosy the Rascal in CD, she wouldn't have been running after Sonic with loving eyes, she would have been chasing him with a hammer trying to attack him.

I just don't agree that Sonic CD shouldn't be part of this video and the fact that Anti-Amy is just a new addition, but is Amy in Sonic CD is *not* Anti-Amy.

This is the classic sonic canon:
Sonic stops Robotnik on south Island. He later meets Amy Rose and the events of sonic CD happen. Sonic then goes to west side island, meets Tails, and explodes the death egg. After, Sonic and Tails see that an island has fallen out of the sky. They rush there with the chaos emeralds but get intercepted by Knuckles. Sonic eventually befriends Knuckles and crashes the death egg once more. In the future, eggman conspires with robotnik and classic sonic and modern sonic meet, creating the split we know today. When classic sonic comes back, the events of mania happen. After battling the hard boiled heavies, Classic sonic is teleported to modern sonic’s world to defeat eggman. When he comes back again, he finds mighty and ray on angel island and defeat the hard boiled heavies once more.
My teacher wanted me to do a presentation over sonic, and it’s due tomorrow so this will help a lot, thank you man

A Look back of The Sonic Franchise Feels Good
Sonic adventure 2 is the only Sonic game I ever played really, I knew the story kinda but never really knew the context. This was really cool to watch. Chao were my favorite part of the game and when my family get together for the holidays we always do City Escape speed runs and try and beat our scores from years past. I guess I should also mention it was the first game I ever played Christmas morning in, what 2004? Lots of memories with this game! Loved watching this video.
I’m going to have to say that in between sonic 3 and knuckles and sonic adventure they do intertwine because sonic refers to knuckles being tricked by eggman as if he’s already been tricked before therefore the classic era and the beginning of the modern era Are in the same universe

The modern era is post sonic 06. The reboot set sonic in a new canon after shadow the hedgehog's ending. The new canon is garbage. They should have realised with how bad 06 was it would have been better to pretend ther reboot didn't happen and set the next game after the events of shadow the hedgehog. Oh well, SEGA has been run by idiots for the past 15 years, that's why their company is dying and they're going to be bought by a bigger company sooner or later.
The Sonic two timelines are not “classic” & “modern”. The two timelines are
The main timeline, Sonic 1 - Forces
The mania timeline, Sonic 1 - Sonic 3&K normally then Classic Generations splits the timeline into Mania, Forces (Classic) & Mania Plus

The “mania timeline” is part of the “main timeline” up until the time travel shenanigans after of Generations, in which “classic Sonic” enters white space sometime after Sonic 2 and 3 cause he knows Tails and 3 directly follows 2, and sometime before Sonic Adventure cause he can’t spin dash yet. Sonic Forces also happens for “classic Sonic” in between Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus.
The “Mania timeline branch” starts after Sonic 3 with Sonic Generations as the point of variation. Dark time energy follows “Classic Sonic” through the portal to his new timeline branch and creates the phantom ruby.
One day “classic Eggman” discovers a new powerful gem under the ground of Angel Island and sends 5 Egg-robo’s to fetch it, at the same time “classic Tails” picks up the signal and follows it, then the events of Sonic Mania happens. “classic Sonic” gets all the chaos emeralds as the Phantom ruby takes him on an adventure exploring new and old locations (like he did in Sonic Generations). With all the emeralds in hand “classic super Sonic” defeats “classic Eggman” and the phantom king and releases the ruby from their grasp, but the ruby has been guiding him through this journey, it pulls the chaos emeralds out of “classic super Sonic” and performs chaos control, opening a portal through Space and time, leading back to the main timeline that it’s energy was originally from. It goes through the portal, quickly followed by “classic Sonic “, but the seconds difference of them entering the portal turned into months in between them arriving at their destination.
And so “modern Eggman” finds the phantom ruby on his doorstop (Sonic Forces comic) and the events of Sonic Forces start. Months later Eggman takes over and omega gets destroyed by infinite who now welds the phantom ruby, tails goes to fix him but is attacked by chaos, and that moment is when classic Sonic finally reaches the end of the portal, months after the ruby. Then Sonic Forces ends with the ruby and “classic Sonic” disappearing.
“Classic Sonic” comes through a portal back to his timeline, the phantom ruby follows, the phantom king and the hard boiled heavy’s get revived, “classic Sonic” works with mighty and ray again (who he met in SegaSonic the Hedgehog), he goes on a very similar adventure, defeats “classic Eggman” again, but in the end the phantom ruby overloads the systems, Sonic and friends get out safely, but poor Eggman gets gets sucked up with his base, and the whole timeline is possibly consumed, but Official classic Sonic comics were made to following the Sonic Mania gang, so everybody’s (even Eggman, and the heavy king) end up being fine. Maybe the timeline had the phantom ruby removed from it.
Now some of this relies on theory’s, but it makes sense and I dont know why I’d never heard this theory. The Time-eater was made of dark time energy, it could distort time and can create portals very similar to the phantom ruby, which distorts space throughout Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces. So I believe after it gets defeated in Sonic Generations, some of it’s energy remains and follows “classic Sonic” to his new timeline and grows it’s energy on Angel Island, a place with dirt nourished by the master emerald. I believe the “dark time energy” wanted revenge on the two Sonics that destroyed it’s body, so it puts pawns in motion to destroy them both by leading “classic Sonic” back to the “main timeline” where the other Sonic resided, but in the end good always triumphs evil, and it probably didn’t account for the “avatar” helping Sonic.
This was a lot of text…. Sorry, lol. I know and think way too much about Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces….
Generations causing a split similar to Dragon Ball's Android Saga makes sense to me.
