@@BigBlack20 if I'm not mistaken X7 & X8 happened in different timeline. In the end of X6 Zero went into slumber and he either awakened in X7 or Megaman Zero, but both doesn't really matter since it will end up in Legends series anyway
Recently I've been hearing a theory that the timeline actually splits after X6, with one timeline going off into X7, X8 and Command Mission, while the other timeline goes off into the Zero series.
That’s the most confusing part of the timeline since Capcom won’t give us a clear direction to go to. As far as we know, after X8, the Elf Wars start, blah blah blah, Zero sealed, you get the point. But some signs point to the timeline going to Command Mission instead, while the Elf Wars and beyond are non-canon.
@@kinlun124 or… X6 X’s Ending -> X7 -> X8 -> Supposedly X8 sequel explaining AXL/lumine fate -> X6 Zero’s Ending -> Supposedly a sequel explaining ELF & the end of maverick wars -> MMZ and so on. Command mission is a clear non-canon based on the timeline
Nice nutshell although I think not entirely correct: The holographic Obi Wan Kenobi is Light not Cain. And at the end of X7 it is Axl who transforms into Red to trick Sigma (Red was destroyed in the battle before), so Axl tricks sigma (not red).
I’m still holding on to the hope of Capcom finally coming around and reviving Mega Man Legends 3 in order to get our favorite blue bomber off of the moon! Either Capcom makes it happen or the fans will…sooner or later…!
I got into the megaman battle network series first as a kid and vaguely knew about the others after. It’s funny knowing that my favorite part is the alternate timeline, but I didn’t know megaman had so much more
Great videos! Though a few errors: In X5, that is Dr. Light not Kain. The X6 zero ending (when he puts himself to sleep) happens at the end of the X timeline (I know its confusing) Also, Dr. Wily reappears as an X hunter in X2, Isoc in X6 and maybe some connection to Weil. Couldn't find any others. Great job on this timeline, one of the best ones I've seen.
Mega Man 8 might be the most important game. Duo and the unnamed robot he was fighting in space might be what gave X and Zero their power. Most notably the unnamed robot and his "Evil Energy" might be the origin of the Maverick Virus. Duo does return in Power Fighters. Could it be possible he gave Dr. Light some of his power? Which negates Evil Energy. Why else would Dr. Light been working so hard on X? Perhaps he knew it was too late and Dr. Wily did get ahold of the Evil Energy and unlocked its power!
My childhood was Megaman X, but my brother was playing the game, i just watched, its sad to know he's dead but a heroic dad, he's tired of fighting anyway
If it makes you feel any better, X's soul went off to Cyberspace after Zero 3, and then he was literally put inside Model X. So X is alive, just in a new body
@@SpultoBNMTheMutuallyUnrequited Yes it is X's soul. Prarie outright states that a Biometal contains the consciousness of the person it's based on. Model X is X. Model Z is Zero. Model L is Leviathan, and so on.
In Megaman X6, the timeline continuity splits into two due to Zero’s choice on whether to sleep or not to study the virus that used to be implanted in him. The choice where Zero doesn’t go to sleep leads to X7, X8 and Command Mission. And the choice where he goes to sleep leads to the Zero series and ZX series and eventually the Legends series.
Ismael Cortez There is no split X timeline. The ending in X6 is said to take place at the end of the X series (which means it takes place after X7 and X8). The video already stated that Command Mission is not canon even if the Zero ending caused a split. The only reason why the Zero series has somewhat of a loose continuity with the X series was due to the devs of the Zero series were essentially forbidden from interacting with the team that was working on the X series at the time for story reasons.
@@AxlChannel0503 Maybe but remember that the Zero saga doesn't have an official date, so the game X Command Mission could have happened perfectly, time after the Elf Wars and 100 years after the Zero saga.
That was beautiful. I’m so happy I watched this video. This over view of the story was amazing. I didn’t know mega man legends was in the future of mega man X and ZX that’s amazing. It’s so sad we won’t have a mega man legends 3. We live in a world where 23 years later we get a final fantasy 7 remake but no megaman legends 3.
God, Leaderboard. You guys really do your research unlike other timelines, and I really appreciate it. One question I have for the fandom is how exactly was the classic series wiped out? I thought the staroids were the ones that destroyed everything and caused Dr. Cane to find X and Zero later, but am not certain.
It's never confirmed what happened to the classic characters but a lot of people say because of Wily using robots to try to take over the world the humans banned all robots like megaman and scraped all of them.
I find it heart wrenching that the timeline could have stayed in peace after the events of ZX and it did for a very long time, but Legends happened. Bringing uncertainty to this timeline's future once more. (Doesn't help that both ZX and Legends are dealing with an ongoing cliffhanger)
In one of X5's endings, X mentions his dream of a place called Elysium where humans and reploids can live together. Mega Man Legends 2 was made around that time so I feel like Capcom was trying to hint that Legends was indeed connected without literally spelling it out. It was a nice touch. This means that X's dream kinda comes true... before Elysium screws everything up again.
I loved these games so much as a kid but i didn‘t understand english very well so this is the first time i‘m learning about any of the lore! I didn‘t even know Megeman and Megaman X happen in the same universe!
Madness! I had no idea there were so many games in the series... I distinctly remember playing Mega Man X, and a few others after that... glad I searched your video - very interesting!
Command Mission was meant to be canon and takes place between the X series and Zero series. Either Zero was reawakened to participate (although there is no actual evidence of this) similar to how it is strongly implied he was reawakened to help X fight in the Cyber Elf Wars, or he was put in stasis sometime after Command Mission and was not in stasis for the full 100 years (which makes more sense considering he had to be awakened by Ciel instead of awakening on his own).
Weirdly, in one interview Keiji Inafune (the man who used to be in charge of the Mega Man franchise despite not actually being its creator, but its first artist) stated that the Legends series was in a separate continuity. Despite this, Inticreates (the company that made the Zero and ZX games) decided to craft the storyline of their games with the idea that everything that happens leads to the events of Mega Man Legends (you can read this for yourself in the interview included in the back of the book Mega Man Zero Official Complete Works).
I am 26 yrs old and Megaman X was the game that made me fall in love with the franchise. I've beat almost all the X series games, I really didnt like the original Megaman 1-11 games and i never knew the story were connected. Thank you for explaining the timeline. The Battle Network and Star Force series were my favorite games growing up and TODAY I learn that alot of original characters and designs for the battle network series comes from the original Megaman series. Please make a timeline video of the Battle Network & Star Force.
I have a funny story: I played Megaman X in Japanese first without knowing anything about the franchise or lore, so when I first came across the original Megaman series in English, I thought it’s a crappy American bootleg of X-series
"Red Alert's leader, Red, overcomes his horrible case of Sigma blackmail and redeems himself with a sacrifice before the big bad gets taken down for the seventh or ninth time..." I wouldn't consider it redemption for Red to have caused the Crimson Palace to self-destruct on top of himself. He took his own life out of guilt for playing into Sigma's hands. Red had nothing to do with the Hunters actually destroying Sigma. Axl accomplished that by transforming into Red to get close enough to Sigma to get a kill shot. Still, that contextual issue aside, great video! Keep up the good work.
One of my favorite franchises of all time ❤️ ... I cannot wait for either Mega Man 12 or X9, whichever comes out first. Hopefully we get both, as there are still unanswered questions in the 20XX timeline.
Axel is a huge cliff hanger to me. With his ability, I doubt he would play a big part in a plot twist if there ever be a sequel. Especially the X8 ending is somewhat hinting about the new Reploid ability.
I never knew that the Megaman Legends series took place in the same continuity as the original series and X series. Thoes were my favorite as well.. I'm still upset that Legends 3 got cancelled..
i always thought megaman command mission felt like a true closure to the series, the end boss was superb, ending tied up everything, but yeah is non canon
I would still like a whole game series of that megaman x command mission style game would be awesome or a megaman universe combined command mission style even if it's non cannon I really missed the whole command mission style
@@gundamdude8351 sadly, capcom is completely out of the rpg field these days, not that monster hunter stories is a bad game or something, but is not their priority these days, megaman is more than x series, and capcom knows that
Well, it should be mentioned that most of this story wouldn’t happen if events in Megaman, Megaman 2, and Megaman 3 planned out differently. After Wily’s defeat in Megaman he’s captured. It’s doubtful he’s created the robots from Megaman 7 yet. Despite catching him red handed and capturing him they believe him when he says he’s reformed and wants to help. Megaman 2 they allow him to go free... and he makes 8 robot masters and tries taking over the world again. He’s captured again. In 3 dr. Light and Wily work on making mining robots and gamma. Because apparently trying to conquer the world twice is a forgivable offensive and they don’t need to give him jail time. The mining robots go berserk and attack and it’s Wily’s doing. The end he’s presumed dead. It’s doubtful he had made the robots of Megaman 7 or had a similar plan by then. But it’s likely that in Megaman 4 he kidnapped Cossacks daughter and black mailed him to try and take over the world freeing up time to start work on contingency plans like junk man, cloudman, burst man, and freeze man. Leaving them in a hidden lab with instructions to bail him out of jail if he’s ever gone for too long. He escapes in Megaman 4 (first time). Megaman 5 protons is likely framed to give him more time to work on these bots. He also escapes. Megaman 6 he likely poses as Mr. X and convinces others to make bots for him to free up time to work on Bass, freezeman, cloud man, junkman, treble, and burstman. He’s finally captured. But.... uh... it’s too late. Had they never gave him a 2nd or 3rd chance in Megaman 2 and 3 he wouldn’t have had the time to set up robots to free him in the event of imprisonment. Megaman 7 shows they really needed to stop trusting him a lot earlier. If they did he’d be in jail, Zero wouldn’t have been created and the X series would be without the virus. The world would be peaceful. Without the virus the X series wouldn’t happen, it would just be peaceful. Elf wars also depended on the virus and pretty much the whole series is a domino effect of letting wilt go free at the start of Megaman 2 and 3.
Everyone hated that series, mainly for its lore, character design, and the fact that It's canon to the MegaMan timeline, which it really shouldn't be, tbh MMX had the best lore overall, but nobody cared for more MMX or normal MegaMan games. Shame on Capcom's part.
@@Zoraproxi Well you obviously have never played those games before, because the lore is cram packed with tons of stuff from the X games and if you claim to be a huge X series fan you would be pumped about the story. wow, this is one of the longest lore timelines in history (in terms of years) it goes from probably 1990 to 162XX (maybe even further ahead!) not to mention that this is all probably in a parallel universe where technological progression was never stopped causing us to be a mysterious amount of years in the future in terms of tech progression. hey, remember this was a kids game?
@@russiancheems2275 He didn’t say the games were bad, just that the story was confusing, which I’m not that surprised about given how transparent Zero/Zx is unfortunately.
I for one would love for a full recap of the entire NT universe, including all 5 anime programmes, all the NT games, and also both Star Force programmes and games. Not only were they all really fun personally, but, I found the universe as interesting as the CE from Gundam....and let's be honest, who doesn't love saying OOParts xD
if you think about it in the end dr wiley got what he wanted, he made the most advanced and strong robot that so much pain and chaos was caused, but that robot was also the only reason it stopped.
15:03 Ah, where the whole original trilogy of Megaman series should have ended. Until Inticreates made the ZX series and diminished Zero sacrifice, the last hero/ Megaman in the world died in the most heroic fashion in a climactic final showdown. Now he is a pseudo magic science pocket rock thing. And yes, Megaman Legends still counts because that huge time gap, is only a side thing.
ZX was meant to partially bridge the gap between the X series and Legends series. That and Capcom wanted them to make a 5th Zero game, even after that Z4's ending.
I don't mind ZX, but i wish capcom would fill the holes in the timeline, what happened to classic megaman? How did the planet get flooded (zx3 would've explained this but still) does volnutt ever get back to earth? Capcom take my money, we need answers!
It's supposed to be the legacy of the heroes, not a direct sequel. Of course the stakes aren't as high as they were in the previous, darker series, but it doesn't make Zero's efforts go to waste by any means. Yet if you personally think it's bad for the terrific conclusion of the Zero series, it's fine, but that doesn't mean the games are bad, so saying they shouldn't exist for plot reasons is very harsh. It's like saying MMX should've ended after X5, even though MMZ would be drastically different and we got X8.

@@BigBlack20 if I'm not mistaken X7 & X8 happened in different timeline. In the end of X6 Zero went into slumber and he either awakened in X7 or Megaman Zero, but both doesn't really matter since it will end up in Legends series anyway
I know the timeline forward and backwards, but I never get tired of it. Great vid, CAPCOM will always be my favorite!
@@amso7169 there is no way in hell the Zero and ZX series are non-canon.
@@Morgil27
I thought the same but either Taicom fucked up or some changes happened in the timeline post-Inafune leaving.

I love how you call him "Wiwy" after the terrible voice acting in Mega Man 8 lol nice touch.
Mega Man is such a legendary gaming franchise.
Nice nutshell although I think not entirely correct:
The holographic Obi Wan Kenobi is Light not Cain.
And at the end of X7 it is Axl who transforms into Red to trick Sigma (Red was destroyed in the battle before), so Axl tricks sigma (not red).
Nailed it! Original MM, X , Zero & Legends Series are my all time favorites. I love the X & Legends storylines. They weren't complete.
i need to know how what happened to zero and x. like. im literally disgustingly sad over it

Great videos! Though a few errors:
In X5, that is Dr. Light not Kain.
The X6 zero ending (when he puts himself to sleep) happens at the end of the X timeline (I know its confusing)
Also, Dr. Wily reappears as an X hunter in X2, Isoc in X6 and maybe some connection to Weil.
Couldn't find any others. Great job on this timeline, one of the best ones I've seen.
Wily being serges in x2, and isoc in x6 is just fan theories.
@@benjaminberkey2920 Yes, Isoc I'd more of a theory based of some random tidbits, but the Japanease dialog of X2 heavily implies Serge is Wily.

Well thought out and presented. Gotta go find my old Megaman collectables now!
Some robotics place caused centuries of war, and the death of all humans because they didn't let Willy use the double gear system.

Imagine if zero was built with the double gear system
Didnt realize megaman legends was connected to the original series. I loved 1 and 2
Mega Man 8 might be the most important game.
Dang Megaman X gets dark fast
My childhood was Megaman X, but my brother was playing the game, i just watched, its sad to know he's dead but a heroic dad, he's tired of fighting anyway
If it makes you feel any better, X's soul went off to Cyberspace after Zero 3, and then he was literally put inside Model X. So X is alive, just in a new body
@@sheetinthestreet5903 It's not actually X is Soul that is Put into Model X tho so X is Still Dead
@@SpultoBNMTheMutuallyUnrequited Yes it is X's soul. Prarie outright states that a Biometal contains the consciousness of the person it's based on. Model X is X. Model Z is Zero. Model L is Leviathan, and so on.

@@phony8699
Well, the X in MMZ is also just a fragment of X's soul, as it has been split off into 5 parts, the other 4 becoming the Four Guardians.
Well actually neo Arcadia tower is the orbital elevator from X8 so no the time split is not from X6.
Command mission occurs in an alternate timeline after X7, X8 is the canon time line that continues to Zero series
@@AxlChannel0503 Maybe but remember that the Zero saga doesn't have an official date, so the game X Command Mission could have happened perfectly, time after the Elf Wars and 100 years after the Zero saga.

Very well done Marcus. Thank you for this rundown! 🙏🏾

Mega man 8 for the PS1 was my first experience with the blue bomber, really brings back the memories and the memes will make it live forever
I loved these games so much as a kid but i didn‘t understand english very well so this is the first time i‘m learning about any of the lore! I didn‘t even know Megeman and Megaman X happen in the same universe!
'Rockman and Roll from Rock and Roll' did blew my mind.
Megaman Zero is my personal favorite series. Zero finally found what he was fighting for

I’ve watched a few of these timeline. You def do it the best IMO. Straight to the point and easy to follow

"Red Alert's leader, Red, overcomes his horrible case of Sigma blackmail and redeems himself with a sacrifice before the big bad gets taken down for the seventh or ninth time..."
I wouldn't consider it redemption for Red to have caused the Crimson Palace to self-destruct on top of himself.
This video made me realize that I crave more megaman content.

Yeah. It still doesn't make any sense how Mega Man X and Zero became best friends.
Axel is a huge cliff hanger to me. With his ability, I doubt he would play a big part in a plot twist if there ever be a sequel. Especially the X8 ending is somewhat hinting about the new Reploid ability.
Awesome video! I would be grateful to have a rundown on Megaman X4, first I owed and it's the first time Zero is playable the whole game !
You can play as Zero on X3 except for Mini and Boss fights.

@@gundamdude8351 sadly, capcom is completely out of the rpg field these days, not that monster hunter stories is a bad game or something, but is not their priority these days, megaman is more than x series, and capcom knows that
1:38 oh yeah he also made the snipper joes
Elf wars also depended on the virus and pretty much the whole series is a domino effect of letting wilt go free at the start of Megaman 2 and 3.
didn't know the storyline of megaman was so elaborated. very good video
And literally yesterday I was talking about the whole timeline lol

Everyone hated that series, mainly for its lore, character design, and the fact that It's canon to the MegaMan timeline, which it really shouldn't be, tbh MMX had the best lore overall, but nobody cared for more MMX or normal MegaMan games. Shame on Capcom's part.

Not only were they all really fun personally, but, I found the universe as interesting as the CE from Gundam....and let's be honest, who doesn't love saying OOParts xD
You think they just could have called it the Tribe Artifact, and not the silly OOPart.
A villain called Albert using Ouroboros to take over the world?
Sure I've seen that somewhere before, Capcom ;)

HMMM *thinking emoji*
You mean, Albert Wesker from Resident Evil 5.
if you think about it in the end dr wiley got what he wanted, he made the most advanced and strong robot that so much pain and chaos was caused, but that robot was also the only reason it stopped.
I still have my copies of Legends 1 and 2
Try to invalidate ZX and ZX Advent all you want, but it is inevitable that the wreckage of Ragnarok would affect the world that Zero saved.
