Once I learned this truth, I began to see examples of it everywhere. A picture hung on the wall of our parlor. In it, a woman was taking a shirt from a clothesline. She had clothespins in her teeth and it was windy and a boy was tugging at her dress. The woman looked like she was in a hurry and the whole scene gave me the idea that, just outside the frame, full, dark clouds were gathering. But that was not what it was. It was paint. So I decided right then and there to see the picture as it really was. I stared at the thing long and hard, trying to only see the paint. But it was no use. All my eyes would allow me to see was the lie. In fact, the longer I gazed at the paint, the more false detail I began to imagine. The boy was crying, as if afraid, and the woman was weaker than I had first believed. I finally gave up. I understood then that it takes a powerful imagination to see a thing for what it really is.
This is a comment from an enlightened being. I've thought it from several things I heard him express; things like describing the world to a blind man or being consumed by art. Something and nothing being the same. The twinkle in his eyes betrayed him the most, though. Listening to him is something very special. The mere fact that he talks of knowing the value of laughter and lived his life in the pursuit of generating it, is a clue. I have often wished he could have loved me. If he loved you....wow!
The fact is, a lot of what he did Couldn’t be told by someone else, they didn’t have the balls. He was FIRED from SNL at the height of his popularity because they wanted to silence the truth he was telling about O.J. Like Barbara Walters, who was bristling as he as he needled her with “You like Bill Cosby, right?” LONG before the public would ever learn the truth. The moth joke- 8 improvised minutes of profound and layered storytelling based on great Russian literature- the audience wasn’t even aware of the backstory that made these such feats of subversive genius, that’s what no one can replicate, and why he was so incredible, original, and unique.
I've been fighting cancer 14 years. Norm was my hero before I knew. And more after I did. He was an amazing human and I'm honored that I got to live and die near him. Though my cancer is now terminal, I'll never lose because of what Norm taught me. For real.

Yeah that’s wild, I’d be really curious about how specifically one goes about graduating that early. Do they just take twice the amount of classes or does someone just keep giving them credit for taking a class without actually taking the class. Absolutely loved Norm. I remember my brother once said, "He's a guy who pretends he's two steps behind you when he's really three steps ahead," and I always thought that was a perfect description of him.
When Norm was on Howard, one time Howard freaked out saying "HOW COULD YOU NOT CARE IF YOU BOMB??" AND Norm said, "I didn't say I like it, I said it was funny" That's Norm.

This was extremely well done, thank you 🙏🏼 When Norm died, it was the only time I cried at the passing of someone I didn’t know personally. Mostly because I felt like I did know him personally, but also because I was sad for the world of comedy that he wouldn’t be able to bless us with another instantly classic joke or bit. He was a comic’s comic, a genius, and above all else, an incredibly good person. Love you, Norm.

As an Iowan, I want to humbly thank whoever kicked Norm out of a charity golf event. That was probably the biggest news story to happen in Iowa for decades. Norm put us on the map… literally! Even the mapmakers had never heard of us.
I've found myself watching Norm videos at 3am again... I've watched this one a couple times now, and I'm never ready for the "I've been lucky." You did a great job not just eulogizing Norm, but also finding a perspective that does a good job of encapsulating his impact on culture and comedy. Thanks for the video, I'm sure I'll be back again.
The one joke that gets me every time, is his "I didn't know he was sick" bit everytime someone talked about a dead person. Every comedian unwittingly made that joke when talking about Norm. A joke beyond the grave

I just love Norm. Playing the dumb guy, while he was the smartest person in the room. He had an emotional intelligence that made him understand people in a rare way. Thanks for this documentary, its made me cry over Norms passing for about the 100th time.

Couldn't agree more on that take either, although I still view both Neil's & Norm's views as two sides of the same coin, even as diametrically opposed they both are. Norm's view is, in so many words, what keeps my will to live chugging along, no questions asked, managing even to disregard my own constant hyper-awareness which fits right in w/NDG's quip which is simply, "The only thing the world wants of you is to eat you and be done with it..." Considering Norm had cancer's menace loom over half his life, it makes perfect sense to me why he dismissed the latter notion off hand despite him likely being all-too-intimately-familiar with it as well.... Cancer simply being the literal embodiment of that latter sentiment brought to life in your own cells, as i see it... He's been saying for ages that he doesn't believe in ufo's and he was on Joe Rogan after fighter pilot David Fravor and and fellow navy pilots all saw the tic-tac ufo and instead of admitting that maybe he was wrong and that ufo's now seem a reality, he made a convoluted attempt to debunk the encounter(s) by saying that maybe their radars were faulty! I felt exactly the same norm and Sean Lock both of them were only a few months apart of my mom‘s death from cancer. those were my two favorite living comedians. Hell probably my two favorite living people in general. I mean mom was up there too but......you know what I mean

Norm was probably the most inspiring person I have ever found in my life. He met death every day head on with humour and fearlessness. I'll never meet him but I still consider him a great friend.
I couldn't sit through the video, the norm thing just makes me too sad, just sharing some knowledge. Norm was a literal math child prodigy genius. Both his parents were high intellectual teachers. He was literally one of those genius card counters at casinos, that would be threatened of dire physical violence. He was one of those young kids that graduated from high school maybe fifteen, he was like Doogie Howser, except he chose his path and comedy.
I don't comment on a lot of TH-cam videos anymore. It's rare I even give one a thumbs up. But you really did a masterful, and heartfelt job of editing this together. It was both smooth... and thoughtful. I'm an editor myself since long before TH-cam existed. So I can appreciate a job well done. If you mostly knew Norm through TH-cam... then you're waaaaay younger than I am. Which makes his accomplishment all the more astonishing. This figure from my teenage years could somehow remain relevant to people half my age in the 21st century. And his name wasn't "Belushi" or "Murphy" or anything like that. He was the middle guy. The relatively small community of lifelong Norm fans who showed up for his podcast show (until they cancelled it) and congregated in the I'm Not Norm channel knew how brilliant the man was, and how rare it is to have someone so genuine in Hollywood. After his passing, it seems everyone has gotten on the bandwagon. Even the Hollywood stars who wouldn't even mention his name showed their support. It seems tragically fitting that Norm really got his flowers, so to speak, after his death - just like most of history's best artists.
norm was never really promoted. I found out about him just some months before his passing because of speculations about his health. Other than that I think I only saw him on the roast and I hated the roast
So many great comments, this won't ever get seen but it is clear from this, Norm was a special kind of genius. Truly driven by some form of love for the craft and not chasing traditional fame and fortune.
That's an astute comment in an ocean of others; I'd also say Norm was essentially driven by an unquenchable zest for life and was, thank God, articulate enough to express his ideas. He was a one of a kind, I'm sad I've only now begun to fully appreciate him.
I really hope his Netflix "special" (since it was really just sort of the groundworks for what he was actually going to perform if he ever could again due to covid) isn't touched or edited at all. Not sure why I say that but it's maybe because, before the recent sentimentals expressed, Netflix were the one's to cancel his talk show.
As much as Norm already was my favourite comedian, I didn't expect to get so much from a video about him. I already saw him as a genius, but now I am baffled. He was definitely one of those people that can see beyond what everybody else can see, and he used his great talent in something very noble, making people smile. Norm was my all time favorite comedian. He’s the only celebrity I ever cried about when he passed. I wanted to see him live so bad. The Norm Macdonald compilations got me through a very difficult time in my life. Man… RIP to a legend.

Of course the young man will never understand this truth" I am 45 year old man and this quote from Norm floored me, I broke down crying. I think its a beautiful form of life confirmation how we sometimes laugh uncontrollably and other times break down crying when being confronted with (and fully realizing/grokking) life's hard truths.

Met Norm at the airport in St Louis a few years back. He was the nicest guy. He sat an talked with us for about 30mins while he was waiting for his flight. Rest In Peace, brother.
I didn’t think I could cry that hard. I was fine till they started talking about his previous two bouts with cancer. I had leukemia when I was 3, and the repercussions from that treatment gave me pretty bad ulcers and stomach cancer later on. And seeing norm rubbing his stomach all those times across several time periods was pretty hard to watch. But thank you for filling in some gaps. He was such a furiously upbeat person. Literally the same exact person I was when I was a little kid going thru chemo. Almost dying does that to a person.
Stomach cancer sounds awful, but it seems to me that Norm should have talked about his leukemia, because I doubt he'd be comfortable with all the hero-worship and drama queening his 'secret' inspired. I have the same leukemia as Norm and I just live with it. I don't say that to "garner sympathy" as Norm said. The truth is it's not that bad. Why not let people know that? When it's bad, when you're really circling the drain, you feel tired, lightheaded, out of breath; your batteries run down sometimes to the point of needing to rest after walking ten yards or having a long conversation; you take pills; sometimes you have to get transfusions &/or chemo; but it's not the hardcore chemo of stage IV lung, liver, colon, stomach, or brain cancer. There's no surgery except marrow transplants but only a fool would opt for that kind of misery for such a shit-odds gamble. In fact there is not much pain at all besides chemo side effects, and those are temporary. You have some suck periods, but you also get to feel fucking great most of the time -- and in most cases you get plenty of time, even a decade or so (as Norm had), to come to terms with life and mortality. I'm 18 months in and almost died when I didn't know I had it, but there is WAY worse shit to have and WAY more tragic ways to go. As for the "tragedy" of his mom outliving him I read in the comments, that's bull crap too. What loving mom wouldn't want to be there for her child in their a time of need? You think she'd rather have been dead? Both Norm and his mom were very lucky. I know people suffering alone, who have no one except maybe nurses and cashiers to talk to, or maybe a child who checks in when they get sick enough to bother with, but that's it. THAT is a tragedy. A child contracting terminal cancer is a tragedy. I love Norm, but I can't take the sappy tone of some of these videos, comments, and testimonials. It's all what he didn't want.

Excellent comparison. I've listened to a lot of Hendrix recordings where I go, "That doesn't sound right" where on a first glance it just sounds like messed up noise sometimes, But the brilliance shines through after a few listens when you truly grasp that weird Hendrix spirit. Same with norm.

I met him once at a comedy club. We arrived late and were in line when I saw him walking by and yelled "Hey Norm!" He turned direction, walked over to me, shook my hand and said hey! And just waited there with a smile. I froze because I didn't expect it and he just said, "Ok. Bye!" And left lol.

It is meant to be understood from the standpoint of your _emotions/happiness._ If you can get to that place (where your level of happiness and satisfaction is the same regardless), you become a master of yourself. Not saying it's easy… But wouldn't it be great to have the same level of happiness in poverty/sickness that you would in richness and in health? To the (admittedly absurd) degree where are you ultimately see no distinction between the two.
For the last few years, I've spent countless hours scouring the web for any and all traces of this brilliant man. Since his passing, it's been increasingly hard to find something new, and while everything he's ever been in still holds up, it's always great when you see something new about Norm. Phenomenal work on this.
One of the few celebrity deaths to hit me hard. I remember visiting the Norm Macdonald show channel page every day hoping for a new episode. One that'll never come. Love you Norm. You were an odd ball in the best way possible.
Personally I had some trouble with the format ... the timer thing on the side was getting on my nerves and then too many quotes when I'd rather see him speaking . Also I'm watching this on my phone and the last thing I needed was for some of the video portion to be shrunk down even smaller But he did provide excellent content within talking about his gambling addiction and other things as well as how he had cancer and nobody knew except a few

Spectacular my man. Definitely earned a subscription. Norm is my hero and idol. I was fighting cancer also at 26 when I heard the news he had died. The revelation that my favorite person to ever walk was too fighting stomach cancer, and was first diagnosed at the same age I was, gives me immense clarity and purpose. Norm’s wisdom and perspective on the human experience are unmatched. Also, he was funny.

Watched this maybe ten times now. Still get emotional. The man was a gift. I keep going through all his stuff and the message is - and I'm sure it's a quote 'anyone can make you laugh, very few can make you happy'. All his standup and everything else raises you to happiness, there is no victim, just joy - and I'm telling you Joy's getting pretty fed up about it, I'm telling you leave Joy out of this, hey, hey, she's a lovely lady and doesn't deserve that kind of attention... Rumour has it that Joy wept at his funeral.
This is probably the most well-thought out compilation tribute about Norm. It had a story that highlighted his uniqueness and honored his lasting legacy for generations to see. I only became a fan of him recently (around 2019) and I have never been so hooked about a comedian since. And to be honest with everyone, he is more than a comedian as he is commonly known. He is a person who truly 'lived;' a philosopher of the comedic persuasion, and a man of his own. He will be one of my greatest heroes in life. You will always be remembered, Norm. Whenever I'm feeling lost in the fog of depression, I just remind myself that I could have been born 100 years ago, or 1,000 years ago, or never born at all, but instead I was lucky enough to be randomly brought into this world at a time that overlapped with norm, and I'm overcome with gratitude, and the fog starts lifting.
That is a great way of thinking. About the fog of depression - honestly Norm is my go-to for helping me not only laugh, but to smile again. Actually, Norm, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, are the one-two punch for depression for me.
Norm never pandered. There was a timeless quality to his comedy, half folksy 1940s, half post-modern profane. And I think like with all truly great artists, there was a morality to his work. He appreciated truth and beauty. He made you laugh hard, but also think, and smile.
I’m at this stage in life where my childhood and teenage influences are dying and it’s actually taking a toll, and making me realize my own mortality. Norm was a legend, and this was a great tribute to him. You certainly earned my sub! Great content. RIP Norm.
I watched the whole thing with mostly a smile on my face, sometimes laughing out loud at jokes I have heard over and over, feeling empathy for his friends who didn’t even know he was sick, and admiring the craftsmanship of your documentary. Until the very end, when I burst into tears as the Foo Fighters’ “There Goes My Hero” played. It’s the first time I’ve cried in a long time over the death of Norm MacDonald. I enjoyed every minute of your video from start to finish. Thank you.
I ended up here after OJ died and I binged on Norm's SNL videos. This video is great insight into part of his life and his last years--- time well spent.
Brought tears to my eyes once again. Before I found Norm, I never thought I could possibly feel such a deep love for a celebrity and a man I've never even met. But I do and I will forever. Thanks for the tribute, your production level is amazing.
This is such a good video. The ending brought a tear down my cheek. The music, the editing, and of course, Norm's captivating writing and speech. It all makes me miss him more than I already do.
I refuse to read more than a few pages of his book every few months. It feels like when it is over, it will be truly over. I keep him alive and fresh/new to me on my nightstand. I love and miss him so dearly. The inflection in my punchlines to co-workers has been infected by his cadence for decades... My deliberate idiocy in situations inspired by his teachings to just go for an original laugh, even if it is just you laughing. I love you Norm. Now time to go on a roller coaster, and eat a egg.

I discovered Norm very late, in 2017 i saw a clip of norm on YT, i instantly fell in love with this white middle age weird dude and i think in a span of two three month, i watched everything there is to watch about norm from SNL, specials, movies, interviews, podcast , late night appearance and i would find myself going back to watch his clip every other month, specially when i wanted to laugh. A Tibetan refugee college going kid in India had a friend from that day.He is not a comedian for me, he was a friend ! I love you norm.
I hope you people can live peacefully and as rightful owner of your Country ~ A fellow Indian I discovered Norm somewhere around 2019, I was bored, A video with bad quality footage was being recommended to me for a very long time so that day I decided to checkout the video and that day I discovered Norm. And I have seen all of his videos numerous times. And his fans respect Norm like a devotee would respect the God. I have seen blind followers of other celebrities and they are toxic but Norm fans are friendly and not toxic and that's because Norm himself never took himself Seriously, He never created a Invincible image of himself. I like two people most for the same reasons, Jim Carrey and Norm MacDonald.

What made me love norm was his character on Mike Tyson mysteries and the more I watched him the more I loved him. All of the videos of him on Conan and just the little late night talk show jokes he had. He’s a legend. I’m glad I got to be a fan of his before he passed away. I’m still upset that he’s gone. The world needed him more than he ever knew.
Been a fan of his since the 90s and would never miss an opportunity to go see him. Those of us paying attention have known how much the world needed him, especially these last 5 years. He was truly one of a kind and truly a great human. Im glad people are exploring him now but there is something cruel about how it takes someone being gone in order for people stop a second and really soak them in- especially the ones who deserve it.

It's bc it is quite obvious Norm had a passion and curiosity for truth. In that pursuit he never became bitter or cynical, but rather found humor and delight in this world.
You spend so much time as a kid confused and curious. As you get older, you know everything, but get a special amount of joy experiencing surprise and discovery- two things that have slowly become foreign. That was Norm. Never predictable, always an adventure. I was so devastated to find that there would be no more adventures. Thanks for everything, Norm.
saw him at a comedy club in vancouver in 1991. i have never laughed so hard in my life. I had to walk out at one point because I thiought i was going to pass out. was just hooked ever since on the offbeat deliveries and sheer silliness of his thought process. great video, thanks so much

Once I learned this truth, I began to see examples of it everywhere. A picture hung on the wall of our parlor. In it, a woman was taking a shirt from a clothesline. She had clothespins in her teeth and it was windy and a boy was tugging at her dress. The woman looked like she was in a hurry and the whole scene gave me the idea that, just outside the frame, full, dark clouds were gathering. But that was not what it was. It was paint. So I decided right then and there to see the picture as it really was. I stared at the thing long and hard, trying to only see the paint. But it was no use. All my eyes would allow me to see was the lie. In fact, the longer I gazed at the paint, the more false detail I began to imagine. The boy was crying, as if afraid, and the woman was weaker than I had first believed. I finally gave up. I understood then that it takes a powerful imagination to see a thing for what it really is.

Something and nothing being the same. The twinkle in his eyes betrayed him the most, though. Listening to him is something very special. The mere fact that he talks of knowing the value of laughter and lived his life in the pursuit of generating it, is a clue. I have often wished he could have loved me. If he loved you....wow!

The fact is, a lot of what he did Couldn’t be told by someone else, they didn’t have the balls. He was FIRED from SNL at the height of his popularity because they wanted to silence the truth he was telling about O.J. Like Barbara Walters, who was bristling as he as he needled her with “You like Bill Cosby, right?” LONG before the public would ever learn the truth. The moth joke- 8 improvised minutes of profound and layered storytelling based on great Russian literature- the audience wasn’t even aware of the backstory that made these such feats of subversive genius, that’s what no one can replicate, and why he was so incredible, original, and unique.

When Norm died, it was the only time I cried at the passing of someone I didn’t know personally. Mostly because I felt like I did know him personally, but also because I was sad for the world of comedy that he wouldn’t be able to bless us with another instantly classic joke or bit.
He was a comic’s comic, a genius, and above all else, an incredibly good person.

I couldn't sit through the video, the norm thing just makes me too sad, just sharing some knowledge. Norm was a literal math child prodigy genius. Both his parents were high intellectual teachers. He was literally one of those genius card counters at casinos, that would be threatened of dire physical violence. He was one of those young kids that graduated from high school maybe fifteen, he was like Doogie Howser, except he chose his path and comedy.

I don't comment on a lot of TH-cam videos anymore. It's rare I even give one a thumbs up. But you really did a masterful, and heartfelt job of editing this together. It was both smooth... and thoughtful. I'm an editor myself since long before TH-cam existed. So I can appreciate a job well done. If you mostly knew Norm through TH-cam... then you're waaaaay younger than I am. Which makes his accomplishment all the more astonishing. This figure from my teenage years could somehow remain relevant to people half my age in the 21st century. And his name wasn't "Belushi" or "Murphy" or anything like that. He was the middle guy. The relatively small community of lifelong Norm fans who showed up for his podcast show (until they cancelled it) and congregated in the I'm Not Norm channel knew how brilliant the man was, and how rare it is to have someone so genuine in Hollywood. After his passing, it seems everyone has gotten on the bandwagon. Even the Hollywood stars who wouldn't even mention his name showed their support. It seems tragically fitting that Norm really got his flowers, so to speak, after his death - just like most of history's best artists.

So many great comments, this won't ever get seen but it is clear from this, Norm was a special kind of genius. Truly driven by some form of love for the craft and not chasing traditional fame and fortune.
That's an astute comment in an ocean of others; I'd also say Norm was essentially driven by an unquenchable zest for life and was, thank God, articulate enough to express his ideas. He was a one of a kind, I'm sad I've only now begun to fully appreciate him.

Norm was my all time favorite comedian. He’s the only celebrity I ever cried about when he passed. I wanted to see him live so bad. The Norm Macdonald compilations got me through a very difficult time in my life. Man… RIP to a legend.

I didn’t think I could cry that hard. I was fine till they started talking about his previous two bouts with cancer. I had leukemia when I was 3, and the repercussions from that treatment gave me pretty bad ulcers and stomach cancer later on. And seeing norm rubbing his stomach all those times across several time periods was pretty hard to watch. But thank you for filling in some gaps. He was such a furiously upbeat person. Literally the same exact person I was when I was a little kid going thru chemo. Almost dying does that to a person.
Stomach cancer sounds awful, but it seems to me that Norm should have talked about his leukemia, because I doubt he'd be comfortable with all the hero-worship and drama queening his 'secret' inspired.
I have the same leukemia as Norm and I just live with it. I don't say that to "garner sympathy" as Norm said. The truth is it's not that bad. Why not let people know that? When it's bad, when you're really circling the drain, you feel tired, lightheaded, out of breath; your batteries run down sometimes to the point of needing to rest after walking ten yards or having a long conversation; you take pills; sometimes you have to get transfusions &/or chemo; but it's not the hardcore chemo of stage IV lung, liver, colon, stomach, or brain cancer. There's no surgery except marrow transplants but only a fool would opt for that kind of misery for such a shit-odds gamble. In fact there is not much pain at all besides chemo side effects, and those are temporary. You have some suck periods, but you also get to feel fucking great most of the time -- and in most cases you get plenty of time, even a decade or so (as Norm had), to come to terms with life and mortality. I'm 18 months in and almost died when I didn't know I had it, but there is WAY worse shit to have and WAY more tragic ways to go.
As for the "tragedy" of his mom outliving him I read in the comments, that's bull crap too. What loving mom wouldn't want to be there for her child in their a time of need? You think she'd rather have been dead? Both Norm and his mom were very lucky. I know people suffering alone, who have no one except maybe nurses and cashiers to talk to, or maybe a child who checks in when they get sick enough to bother with, but that's it. THAT is a tragedy. A child contracting terminal cancer is a tragedy.
I love Norm, but I can't take the sappy tone of some of these videos, comments, and testimonials.

Excellent comparison. I've listened to a lot of Hendrix recordings where I go, "That doesn't sound right" where on a first glance it just sounds like messed up noise sometimes, But the brilliance shines through after a few listens when you truly grasp that weird Hendrix spirit. Same with norm.

My god dude, or dudette, what an absolute masterpiece of a tribute to Norm. I love him so much, and have loved him since I was a kid. Even two years later I cried my eyes out watching this. He was the greatest. Thank you for the video.
"You don't lose to cancer it dies with you, so it's just a draw" made me change my pov about a lot of things, I mean the whole video did.
No celebrity passing had ever affected me until Norm. We’re all lucky that he can still bring us joy through his comedy that is deathless.
I met him once at a comedy club. We arrived late and were in line when I saw him walking by and yelled "Hey Norm!"
He turned direction, walked over to me, shook my hand and said hey! And just waited there with a smile. I froze because I didn't expect it and he just said, "Ok. Bye!" And left lol.

It is meant to be understood from the standpoint of your _emotions/happiness._ If you can get to that place (where your level of happiness and satisfaction is the same regardless), you become a master of yourself. Not saying it's easy… But wouldn't it be great to have the same level of happiness in poverty/sickness that you would in richness and in health? To the (admittedly absurd) degree where are you ultimately see no distinction between the two.

For the last few years, I've spent countless hours scouring the web for any and all traces of this brilliant man. Since his passing, it's been increasingly hard to find something new, and while everything he's ever been in still holds up, it's always great when you see something new about Norm. Phenomenal work on this.
One of the few celebrity deaths to hit me hard. I remember visiting the Norm Macdonald show channel page every day hoping for a new episode. One that'll never come.
Love you Norm. You were an odd ball in the best way possible.

Personally I had some trouble with the format ... the timer thing on the side was getting on my nerves and then too many quotes when I'd rather see him speaking .
Also I'm watching this on my phone and the last thing I needed was for some of the video portion to be shrunk down even smaller
But he did provide excellent content within talking about his gambling addiction and other things as well as how he had cancer and nobody knew except a few

Spectacular my man. Definitely earned a subscription. Norm is my hero and idol. I was fighting cancer also at 26 when I heard the news he had died. The revelation that my favorite person to ever walk was too fighting stomach cancer, and was first diagnosed at the same age I was, gives me immense clarity and purpose. Norm’s wisdom and perspective on the human experience are unmatched. Also, he was funny.
I look forward to seeing you become a legend as well
I was diagnosed first time at 26 as well and again 5 years later. Probably time to go get checked out and weigh in for round 3.

Watched this maybe ten times now. Still get emotional. The man was a gift. I keep going through all his stuff and the message is - and I'm sure it's a quote 'anyone can make you laugh, very few can make you happy'.
All his standup and everything else raises you to happiness, there is no victim, just joy - and I'm telling you Joy's getting pretty fed up about it, I'm telling you leave Joy out of this, hey, hey, she's a lovely lady and doesn't deserve that kind of attention...
Rumour has it that Joy wept at his funeral.
This is probably the most well-thought out compilation tribute about Norm. It had a story that highlighted his uniqueness and honored his lasting legacy for generations to see.
I only became a fan of him recently (around 2019) and I have never been so hooked about a comedian since.
And to be honest with everyone, he is more than a comedian as he is commonly known. He is a person who truly 'lived;' a philosopher of the comedic persuasion, and a man of his own.
He will be one of my greatest heroes in life.
You will always be remembered, Norm. You have now become the diamond that you were meant to be from being an oleʼ chunk of coal-for eternity.

That is a great way of thinking. About the fog of depression - honestly Norm is my go-to for helping me not only laugh, but to smile again. Actually, Norm, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, are the one-two punch for depression for me.

Norm never pandered. There was a timeless quality to his comedy, half folksy 1940s, half post-modern profane. And I think like with all truly great artists, there was a morality to his work. He appreciated truth and beauty. He made you laugh hard, but also think, and smile.
I’m at this stage in life where my childhood and teenage influences are dying and it’s actually taking a toll, and making me realize my own mortality. Norm was a legend, and this was a great tribute to him. You certainly earned my sub! Great content. RIP Norm.

I watched the whole thing with mostly a smile on my face, sometimes laughing out loud at jokes I have heard over and over, feeling empathy for his friends who didn’t even know he was sick, and admiring the craftsmanship of your documentary.
Until the very end, when I burst into tears as the Foo Fighters’ “There Goes My Hero” played. It’s the first time I’ve cried in a long time over the death of Norm MacDonald.

I ended up here after OJ died and I binged on Norm's SNL videos. This video is great insight into part of his life and his last years--- time well spent.
Brought tears to my eyes once again. Before I found Norm, I never thought I could possibly feel such a deep love for a celebrity and a man I've never even met. But I do and I will forever. Thanks for the tribute, your production level is amazing.

This is such a good video. The ending brought a tear down my cheek. The music, the editing, and of course, Norm's captivating writing and speech. It all makes me miss him more than I already do.
I refuse to read more than a few pages of his book every few months. It feels like when it is over, it will be truly over. I keep him alive and fresh/new to me on my nightstand. I love and miss him so dearly. The inflection in my punchlines to co-workers has been infected by his cadence for decades... My deliberate idiocy in situations inspired by his teachings to just go for an original laugh, even if it is just you laughing. I love you Norm. Now time to go on a roller coaster, and eat a egg.

I discovered Norm very late, in 2017 i saw a clip of norm on YT, i instantly fell in love with this white middle age weird dude and i think in a span of two three month, i watched everything there is to watch about norm from SNL, specials, movies, interviews, podcast , late night appearance and i would find myself going back to watch his clip every other month, specially when i wanted to laugh. A Tibetan refugee college going kid in India had a friend from that day.He is not a comedian for me, he was a friend ! I love you norm.

I discovered Norm somewhere around 2019,
I was bored, A video with bad quality footage was being recommended to me for a very long time so that day I decided to checkout the video and that day I discovered Norm.
And I have seen all of his videos numerous times.
And his fans respect Norm like a devotee would respect the God.
I have seen blind followers of other celebrities and they are toxic but Norm fans are friendly and not toxic and that's because Norm himself never took himself Seriously, He never created a Invincible image of himself.
I like two people most for the same reasons, Jim Carrey and Norm MacDonald.

The great philosopher king of our time. I considered myself someone very educated on Norm and his life but I learned quite a few things from this video. I applaud the research that went into this, and the time it must've taken. You honored this wonderful man beautifully and compiled what is the definitive piece of media demonstrating what made him so endearing
This made me emotional. You have a gift and I, among many others, can very much appreciate this tribute to a guy that cared more about others than himself. Thank you.
What made me love norm was his character on Mike Tyson mysteries and the more I watched him the more I loved him. All of the videos of him on Conan and just the little late night talk show jokes he had. He’s a legend. I’m glad I got to be a fan of his before he passed away. I’m still upset that he’s gone. The world needed him more than he ever knew.

Been a fan of his since the 90s and would never miss an opportunity to go see him. Those of us paying attention have known how much the world needed him, especially these last 5 years. He was truly one of a kind and truly a great human. Im glad people are exploring him now but there is something cruel about how it takes someone being gone in order for people stop a second and really soak them in- especially the ones who deserve it.

It’s literally 4 am and I’m not ashamed to say I have been crying and laughing and cry laughing so hard. Thank you for this man. Couldn’t have done it any better. Norm was the goat and nobody was as funny as he is. Some come close but in the end I can watch any clip of norm and laugh out loud quite literally. I’m so thankful there is much of his content available. Fucking legend!

It's bc it is quite obvious Norm had a passion and curiosity for truth. In that pursuit he never became bitter or cynical, but rather found humor and delight in this world.
