I worked as a waiter at a Yuk-Yuk's comedy club in Kitchener, Ontario. Norm performed there quite a few times shortly before he made the big time. His act was by far the best one I saw while working there and he was the nicest comic I met there as well. Some of them thought they were real celebrities and acted snooty, but Norm always hung out with the staff and would go out for drinks with us when the club closed. I'm so glad his career was so huge and when I heard about his death I was very sad. I always loved him and respected him too. He didn't sell out.
He didn't just make people laugh, he had this unexplainable ability to say the dumbest joke you've ever heard that somehow warmed your heart and made you love life a little more..really unique man
It’s called the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ effect. Basically you guys have lowered your standard for comedy to extreme lows to allow for calling Norm great in order to feel smart. Rogan was the first to do it and a bunch of people didn’t realize Rogan has the lamest sense of humour in the world so they all listened to him about Norm lol
He is the best comedian to ever live, without a doubt. He had a unique, chaotic, yet intricate style of comedy even Dave chappelle said he’s never heard anyone do comedy like Norm. He was a genius and a artist at his craft and was truly fearless at that! RIP Norm the GOAT
It's a damn fine tribute video, man. You can't make me love him more, but you convinced me you love him at least as much as I do. Thanks for keeping his memory fresh. RIP Norm.
@garydodson6737 ohlmeyer, the guy who fired norm from snl. The day norm was fired, he went on letterman, and was very nice about the whole firing. Letterman took offense to his firing, and started outright insulting ohlmeyer when norm wouldn't.
I absolutely loved how Letterman buried that Don Ohlmeyer. He was trying so bad to get Norm to insult him but all Norm said was that Don was fat and a friend of OJ. Man, they don’t make tv like that anymore.
The fact that I am very familiar with Norm’s entire career and story and yet still watched this entire video shows both how great he was and how much I miss his character.
Give Nate due credt as he did a great job with this tribute. The subject matter was great and he put it all together exceptionally well. Norm woulda turned his big fat face down and way with a smile, blush and that impish twinkle in his eye..he woulda loved it, if he would've allowed himself to..
I was a kid when he was on SNL so I didn’t appreciate the humor then. It was all over my head or just not funny to me as a kid…wish I had realized how brilliant he really was.
I saw him live in a comedy club when he was just starting out. He was the best act that evening. I only went to a comedy club once in my life. Amazing luck to see one of the best.

Out of the 3 odd words you managed to pronounce "Algonquin" correctly, but butcher Ontario (On-Terry-Oh) as "On-Tarrr-E-O" and Carleton (Karl-Tonne) as "Carly-Ton" University.
The reason Norm was so great and so damned funny was that he NEVER did jokes, gags, or bits for the audience. He literally did every single thing to make himself laugh. The fact he was constantly dropping steamy upper-deckers onto everyone that either hired him or acted like they were his superiors when NOBODY else would be in on the joke should make that immediately obvious.

I think this is what Letterman was referencing when he said he’s not sure norm “works hard” or something to that effect. That norm just had innate talent, perspective and a natural personality. A lot of comedians are carefully crafted personas, they’re performers playing a character on stage. Norm at least appeared not to be.

I said, "Oh Norm..why would you think such a thing?". He smirked and said, "Well you know what they say about these Professors of Logic now...". He really was the best we’ve ever had. I miss him. (hey fella…don’t get fresh. I own a doghouse!) Edit: subbed, and looking forward to your next offering!

Norm saved me during the Covid lockdown. I spent every day watching EVERYTHING Norm. I laughed and laughed and it made my confinement tolerable. Of course, one of my favorites is the 12 minute storey about Janice, the cheese sandwiches and the shallow grave! Thank you, Nate for this wonderful documentary about the funniest comedian who ever lived. As the Germans would say!
Stellar job. The inside jokes, heartfelt admiration, and show of respect u paid to Norm throughout this video was truly touching. I also am never deeply hurt, or genuinely upset when some celebrity passes, but when Norm died, I was actually really heartbroken. He is absolutely my favorite comedian. And without a doubt, belongs in on the Mt. Rushmore of comedy legends. He absolutely was a master of his craft, and totally fearless. He gave zero fucks! Thank u for the hard work u put into this. Hopefully some young comedy fans that have never heard of Norm, will see this and fall in love with his comedy and personality just as we did... Thanx again
I'm not sure how many Canadian's are on this site, but his decision to use a Doug in the Slugs song "Too Bad" as his theme song on The Norm Show is a brilliant choice. I remember going to one of their concerts while attending university and Doug Bennett had us dancing on the tables. I can't get enough of Norm's humor, it's so original.
Thanks for making this. You did a great job in creating something that I can share with people who didn’t know of Norm. Not only does it properly encapsulate his diverse style of humour, but it ought to leave people with a thirst for more of Norm’s material.
Released on the anniversary of his passing. A great memorial to his name. Very well done and clearly heart-felt. Thank you for the effort you put into this. Miss you, Norm... Ps.. when I was 14, I bought my first dvd, walmart had just started the $5 dvd bin (approx 2001), and in it was Dirty Work. I watched that movie easily over a hundred times that summer. Severely underrated. A saigon whore bit Jimmy's nose off.
the GREATEST comedian to ever live. Nobody is funnier or sweeter than Norm. The day I heard the news I was incredibly sad. Love the OJ joke as Acute Leukemia 🥰
Norm going on stage, stealing all up-n-coming comedians jokes, then going on a bus tour with them afterwards… gtfoh 😂 now that’s comedy for one guy’s amusement and I’m here for it
Top quality content. I definitely have a greater regard and appreciation for both the man and the comedian from watching this. He truly was the most subversive comedian since Andy Kaufman. Not everyone understood or appreciated Norm MacDonald but even for those folks--and, let's face it--for everyone who saw him, the man was unique--and a truely brilliant enigma, wrapped in a mystery. Indeed, he was one of the few creators in any medium who, imo, absolutely needed to exist.
Superb tribute. Laughed the whole way through. As an old chunk of coal myself, I knew all the bits that were being shown and still guffawed. Beautiful work.
I remember seeing Dirty Work as a teenager and Norm became my favorite person/comedian immediately. The things he said in the face of political correctness and elite people was legendary and the common man could live through him even if it was brief. I miss Norm, what an awesome life he lived.
i think one of the best successes of this excellent tribute doc is that It made me realize just how profoundly unique Norm was as an individual and as an artist. With a heart of love and a tongue of sword and a slingshot of ironic truth, it was a delightful balance, like fire and ice. This doc made me realize that the title is true. There's something attractive to me about fearless and elephants in a room.

Norm had a big impact on me. Big fan of comedy. Thanks for sharing these interesting stories.
Good on you prominently crediting Im Not Norm.
Same here man, Norm is my hero and when I found out he died I cried the same night like a baby. I just couldn’t believe it man. I’m glad you loved the video man, share it with your friends who also love Norm ❤️
And also how couldn’t I credit I’m not Norm? He isn’t Norm after all, he deserves all the credit!
Subverting comedic norms as a comedic Norm. What legend.
His father, who owned a doghouse. .. LOLthid is an instant favorite TH-cam video right here. Had so many of his best bits. I was crying laughing multiple times
Glad you loved it man :) thanks for the kind words
I miss this man! What a legend, RIP Norm!
Good job on the video dude. Norm was without a doubt one of a kind and deserved this tribute.
Thanks man, for all of your hard work making this video for us all! You dropped so many inside jokes, and as dryly as Mr. Bob Newhart himself. Norm was a rare bird. He really was the best we’ve ever had. I miss him. (hey fella…don’t get fresh. I own a doghouse!)
Edit: subbed, and looking forward to your next offering!
Thank you so much for the kind words my friend. I’m beyond happy so many people are loving the documentary. I put my heart and soul into it. More content to come
@@TheComedyHistorian and it shows! I hope this upload garners you thousands of new subs! Thanks for the reply. Take care, Nate! 🏆
So happy I caught this within the hour of upload. In order to resoundingly concur with every sentiment, live as they aired.
Thanks for watching my friend, it means the world to me
Awesome video!! Thanks for showing Norm the love he deserves!!! He’s the GOAT
Truly the greatest
Love all the interspersed Normisms and jokes.
Thanx again
Yessir, thank you for the kind words ❤️
Thank you for making this ❤ very well made and full of great norm references!
Glad you loved it ❤️
Legend has it, Norm can be found in the land of where his jokes come from.. :)
Glad you loved it man ❤️
God bless you for this. Loved Norm, and still miss him. And yes, he was the greatest comedian to ever live.
I have an eternal happy laughter thanks to Norm. Deeply funny. Lasting haunting humor.
Thank you! Really beautiful. I love the ending, with the text to Pablo. THat was lovely. Geat work.
Thank you for this. The love you have for Norm is evident in the dedication you put into making such a great documentary. Much love
Thank you my friend ❤️ I hope you subscribe to see more future content coming soon
So much respect. He’s the definition of a wildcard.
the GREATEST comedian to ever live. Nobody is funnier or sweeter than Norm. The day I heard the news I was incredibly sad. Love the OJ joke as Acute Leukemia 🥰
Truly! Glad you loved the joke and the video man :) thanks for watching
Norm going on stage, stealing all up-n-coming comedians jokes, then going on a bus tour with them afterwards… gtfoh 😂 now that’s comedy for one guy’s amusement and I’m here for it
I miss Mr. McDonald, I may have commented on here previously. I find myself watching videos where I can hear his comedy. God bless all.
A beautiful tribute!
Thank you very much! I’m glad you think so, share it with other members of the Norm community ❤️
He was truly one of a kind.
Undeniably unique. He’ll never be forgotten
in the end he looked 100% like his dad. thats remarkable
Love all the subtle references to his lines
Had to pay homage to the GOAT
Norm was the most relatable and the most subversive person and that was his genius
Hey be careful with that! Thats my lucky STABBIN hat.
One of the greatest comedians to ever die I think he’d say.
True
Superb tribute. Laughed the whole way through. As an old chunk of coal myself, I knew all the bits that were being shown and still guffawed. Beautiful work.
Thank you for your kind words!
Best tribute video to norm I've seen yet. And I've watched just about all of them. Good job on this project bro. I cried at work
I remember seeing Dirty Work as a teenager and Norm became my favorite person/comedian immediately. The things he said in the face of political correctness and elite people was legendary and the common man could live through him even if it was brief. I miss Norm, what an awesome life he lived.
Love Norm Macdonald. I’m glad you enjoyed the video my friend, hope you subscribe to see more content soon ❤️ new Norm video coming tomorrow
Rest in peace Norm, we all miss you
Seriously man. The world of comedy is darker without that chunk of coal ❤️
I never knew he was sick
@@quietjarvis he never told anyone, he just kept making people laugh until he couldn't
I’m starting to realize he is the father of modern day Trolling
Bro he really is, he was trolling people before the internet was even invented. Ahead of his time as always.
“His father who owned a doghouse” 😂 love it
i think one of the best successes of this excellent tribute doc is that It made me realize just how profoundly unique Norm was as an individual and as an artist. With a heart of love and a tongue of sword and a slingshot of ironic truth, it was a delightful balance, like fire and ice. This doc made me realize that the title is true. There's something attractive to me about fearless and elephants in a room.
