He has a wife and two kids, and he is living in America, where if one person says something offended him or her, his job could be in jeopardy. In his shoes, after he said you could “get locked in the gaze” and start thinking “this guy is making a lot of sense,” to keep my job, I would have done the exact same thing. So if that’s a pussy, I’m a pussy. But all I saw was a man trying to support his family.

Norm is a comic for layman and simpletons. He is not particularly sophisticated. I think you will find the pool of individuals that find him to be the funniest comic who ever lived, very very small. Leaving you with few to relate to. Norm is talented to be sure, and his gimmicks are subtle, but his humor is not particularly intelligent as many profess. I can think of at least 20 overall better comics off the top of my head. Comedy is subjective, however, so I don’t disparage your opinion, just the idea that you only relate to people who would agree with you on this.

He was featured in a wide variety of formats and mediums, and remained relevant for decades. The idea that his comedy was tailored for 'laymen/simpletons' or that he himself wasn't accomplished enough in his craft is just not true.
@@Skinnyorangemusic I grew up with Norm on SNL as a kid and absolutely adored him. The great thing about Norm was he made you feel special or accepted or something for "getting" him. I know now that people online just fawn over him and that's great but back in the day you were sort of an outsider for loving Norm because he was so unorthodox and it was always awesome to find another genuine Norm fan "in the wild".
Every single host who ever had Norm on knew to just sit back and let him tell his whole paced and detailed story, the punch line was worth it. My fave was the "Moth Story".

A German character had a repeat line “I see nothing” referencing the atrocities that“No nazi saw” happen during the holocaust. People being exterminated lends few hands to comedy. Norm created new jokes that will be told for hundreds of years if we are lucky. Jokes like "Closeted Gay", "I didn't even know he was sick", "...a real jerk"... He truly was a genius of English.
Sounds like me once when I channel-surfed and stopped on some guy talking to Charley Rose about major league baseball players. Suddenly I was fascinated with the most boring game in the world. I still appreciate what the guy said but it has not stopped me from avoiding everything baseball.
It gets glossed over by some of the more obvious killers but one of the smartest, most insightful things ever said in comedy was during the scrabble bit. The part about the blanks, he just kind of wedged it in there, was so insanely genius I can't really wrap my mind around it. I've wondered since seeing that bit if there really is a guy that's all based on or if Norm just conjured the entire scenario.
When Norm is on a live show I picture stressed people in headphones holding clip boards waving their arms, mouthing “cut to commercials” and old Norm smiling even more.
I’m here because I was recalling that time years ago this one time I tuned into a You Tube awards livestream and I’d never seen Norm McDonald in my life but in the midst of everyone there there that was in expensive clothes and makeup there was this guy sitting one the couch in sweat pants and a hoodie dishing out every god damn thing these people didn’t want to hear
It feels like the dirty johnny joke just keeps getting slower and slower paced as he goes lol, it’s like their patience is just feeding him and he’s just taking more and more ground, slower and slower, I love it so much 😂😂

Look up Noel Mason-MacFarlane who was miltary attache in Berlin just before the war. He offered to assasinate Hitler after one day his motorcade passed beneath his lodgings window. He realised he could just have drooped a grenade into the open car. He offered to do it at the next oppertunity. The Britsh intellegence and diplomats thought he was mad.
There were hundreds of such plots. Hitler really kept moving, thwarting most of them. Most heartbreaking to me are the two in Shirer's book, the one in the German museum where Hitler was stopping by to look at new uniforms...and, of course, Valkyrie/Stauffenberg. SO CLOSE! ...And both would have likely been the difference between reverting to pre-war peace and several million more pointless murders...

In that last story Norm tells about "dirty Johnny" i always felt he was addressing the room directly regarding how Howard Essentially abandoned Artie when he was down & out

The youtube awards thing is literally the funniest thing, the other 2 hosts just listening to Samberg, and Norm just casually talking about Hilter. More footage of the event is under "DVDuring"

Both in and out of Academia, this is the 1st man i see getting the right answer to the "enigma" at the start. A true genius!
Look up Noel Mason-MacFarlane who was miltary attache in Berlin just before the war. He offered to assasinate Hitler after one day his motorcade passed beneath his lodgings window. He realised he could just have drooped a grenade into the open car. He offered to do it at the next oppertunity. The Britsh intellegence and diplomats thought he was mad.
There were hundreds of such plots. Hitler really kept moving, thwarting most of them. Most heartbreaking to me are the two in Shirer's book, the one in the German museum where Hitler was stopping by to look at new uniforms...and, of course, Valkyrie/Stauffenberg. SO CLOSE! ...And both would have likely been the difference between reverting to pre-war peace and several million more pointless murders...
