I feel as though it is anti form, Sora just learned how to control it. Honestly think about it? Why was it even a thing in KH2 if going into it had no effects on Sora from a narrative standpoint?
And there is the fact that they two forms seem to be the same in every way save for the obvious differences such as the presence of a keyblade and the mechanics says a lot for me.

I feel like Rage Form is essentially Sora finally gaining a fair bit of control over Anti-Form and using it to his advantage. It shows how much he's grown, and while he doesn't have full control over himself yet while using it (which explains why he can't use magic, shotlocks or items: he still gets that drive to let loose, it is called Rage Form for a reason), he has enough of a grasp of it to use it to his advantage. He's learning from his past mistakes; while Anti-Form was a mistake of his, caused by abusing his powers too much, Rage Form symbolises how much he's learnt from that, and how darkness can be used for good. Or something. I mean, it's his last-resort, which could show his reluctance to use darkness, but still.
    Ansem would be proud.

I always felt that Anti-Form wasn't so much "abusing his powers too much" and more a consequence of what Forms ARE.
In KH2, Forms are when Sora basically opens his heart up to allow a friend's heart to join with his - either Donald, Goofy, or both/one of them + a guest character/friend (also, anyone else as happy as I am that they finally added a "guest" character slot...or TWO?!)
Anti-Form, to me, was that when he so opened his heart, sometimes his heart might be too weak from doing this too much (hence the hidden Anti-Form meter in the game which determines when you enter it), causing it to draw in all his friends' hearts as well as ambient darkness, corrupting the Form change for the duration, during which said friends' hearts work to repair him and return them all to normal.
This also explains, to me, why Final Form - which is supposed to indicate mastery of the Form system (and Roxas' remerging/accepting being part of Sora) - takes both party members' hearts into Sora, but ALSO always subtracts 10 from the Anti-Form gauge (making him less likely to go into Anti-Form when using other Form transformations) and NEVER "fails" (e.g. never makes you go Anti-Form.)
The idea is that in Final Form, Sora's heart opens, but Roxas' heart inside of him shields from darkness riding into his heart and corrupting the transformation, AS WELL AS repairing any of the "damage" from other, more imperfect transformations (Valor, Wisdom, and Master Forms) by reducing the Anti gauge.
It's just my personal theory, I guess, since everyone else seems to have interpreted it as "abusing his powers", but I always thought it was more just a consequence of having to open his heart to his friends' hearts for the mergers, which would allow ambient darkness a chance to slip through the opening as well, building until there was enough of it to corrupt the Form change and require purging/healing. Again, with Final Form having Roxas' heart inside of Sora basically acting as a guard and healer to prevent the entry and heal any current damage.

So when Riku transformed into ansem , is it like the same thing like sora”s rage form?

  • @SubduedRadical
    @SubduedRadical 4 ปีที่แล้ว +202

I always felt that Anti-Form wasn't so much "taken over by darkness because of his lust for power" and more a consequence of what Forms ARE. Partly because I don't really see Sora as HAVING a "lust for power", and because...well:
In KH2, Forms are when Sora basically opens his heart up to allow a friend's heart to join with his - either Donald, Goofy, or both/one of them + a guest character/friend (Sidenote: Anyone else as happy as I am that they finally added a "guest" character slot...or TWO?! Been asking for that since KH1!)
Anti-Form, to me, was that when he opened his heart, sometimes his heart might be too weak from doing this too much (hence the hidden Anti-Form meter in the game which determines when you enter it) and/or while it was "open", like a door or a window, some darkness could seep in. With his heart open, causing it to draw in all his friends' hearts as well as ambient darkness, once the darkness has reached enough mass (e.g. the Anti gauge having built up enough), the darkness is sufficient to act, corrupting the Form change for the duration, during which Sora friends' hearts work to repair him and return them all to normal - which is why it takes two of them/all party members. (Granted, this is me inserting my own view of hearts, saying that the hearts are kind of "acting on instinct" to repair Sora, but seriously - where ARE his friends during the transformations if not merged within his heart?)
This also explains, to me, why Final Form - which is supposed to indicate mastery of the Form system via Roxas' remerging/accepting being part of Sora - takes both party members' hearts into Sora, but ALSO always subtracts 10 from the Anti-Form gauge (making him less likely to go into Anti-Form when using other Form transformations) and NEVER "fails" (e.g. never makes you go Anti-Form.)
The idea is that in Final Form, Sora's heart opens, but Roxas' heart inside of him shields from darkness slipping through the opening into his heart and corrupting the transformation, AS WELL AS repairing any of the "damage" from other, more imperfect transformations (Valor, Wisdom, and Master Forms) by reducing the Anti gauge.
It's just my personal theory, I guess, since everyone else seems to have interpreted it as "abusing his powers", "lust for power", etc, but I always thought it was more just a consequence of having to open his heart to his friends' hearts for the mergers, which would allow ambient darkness a chance to slip through the opening as well, building until there was enough of it to corrupt the Form change and require purging/healing while TEMPORARILY awakening the dormant Heartless (from KH1) born of the natural darkness in Sora's heart, which is then under Sora's loose control as he acts more on instinct, but still fights his enemies. Again, with Final Form having Roxas' heart inside of Sora basically acting as a guard and healer to prevent the entry and heal any current damage.
Basically: Sora is unique in the series for having the most open and welcoming heart (and no less than 2 and as many as 3 people riding around inside of it at any given time), but Anti-Form was what happens when darkness floods through the opening, Final Form when Roxas was acting as a bouncer keeping it out, and Rage Form is, instead, Sora taking the darkness and semi-mastering it, channeling that inner Heartless while still maintaining his own heart (as symbolized by him still wielding the Keyblade), overcoming its power instead of being overcome by it, and using it to do good.

This theory would also explain why Anti-form is more likely to occur when fighting Org members, as well as why you will never trigger Anti Form if you use a Drive outside of combat, as there would be more ambient darkness around the Org since they have hostile intent (as opposed to Heartless which attack more-or-less indiscriminately), and an absence of enemies would result in less chance of the transformation being interferef with.

Kind of a VERY late theory but I think the reason you cannot use items, magic, or shotlocks (in story) is because Rage form Sora only wants to attack and defend. Like stated, Rage form is Sora's last resort, his darkness resonated with his will to stay alive and fight. So everything he does in that form is about fighting. Since magic and items require knowledge to use and shotlocks require focus, a being that only know that he needs to fight and survive does not need to use those if his raw strength is enough to do what he knows.

  • @lura8040
    @lura8040 5 ปีที่แล้ว +75

Honestly, i think Rage Form is as the name says, Rage
Sora enters in that form, using the darkness (in this case RAGE) to unleash RAGE or the darkness inside him
Maybe rage generated by the frustration he might have by easily being taken by Xehanort, failing his exam. Being powerless to save everyone, powerless to save The BbS Trio alongside the 358 trio. Anger of always losing his friends. And many more things that can also associate with games before DDD.
It's a mini theory i have. And with the Riskcharges, he may submerge more into darkness/rage, by sharing the rage Roxas, Xion and Ventus might have
It sounds stupid i know but idk xd

I kinda figured that the name alone would signify that Rage Form is a direct result of Sora's anger. And him turning into a dark silhouette is the darkness in his heart being manifested by said anger (since anger is associated with darkness in this series).
Also, when Xehanort forces Sora into Rage Form in the final boss, I like to think of it as Xehanort feeding off of Sora's rage and anguish from having Kairi struck down.

We need a Darkness keyblade that form changes to a variation of Rage Form. It doesn't have the full heal or risk charge mechanics, but it does have shotlocks and dark versions of spells. Dark Fire is the same homing split fire we all know, Dark Blizzard is a super short range front facing icy pulse that does heavy damage and has a very high freeze chance (Old Xehanort icing Ven was my inspiration for this), Dark Thunder discharges a slow moving orb that releases an AoE DOT electricity bubble, Dark Water erupts around Sora in a geyser of poison, Dark Aero creates a vacuum around Sora to pull in enemies before slicing them with a radial wind blade attack, Dark Cure heals only 25% as its equivalent normal Cure but also makes physical attacks siphon health while MP is recharging after using it. The unmaxed shotlock would just be a flurry of sequential teleporting back slashes for every target, the maxed shotlock would be Dark Splicer.

Only if you're doing damage. The very minor heal you get from the proposed Dark Cure would still leave you well in the danger zone even at Dark Curaga and you only heal more by hitting the enemy, a dangerous prospect in some fights. To top it off the siphoning only lasts for the duration of your MP Regeneration so MP Hastes, orbs, and ethers would actually be detrimental for Dark Cure.

I like to think of Rage Form as a perfected Anti Form. As Sora has grown as a person in the time since KH2, he's learned to make the best of Anti Form to be able to wield a keyblade and call upon the form at will for dire situations. If you've seen Endgame, it's kinda like how Banner made peace with Hulk and now they've become one person who's the best of both worlds.

I always took Anti-Form, while in terms of gameplay a punishment, more of proof that Sora hadn't completely recover from being recompleted, and so when he tried to reach for the power of the hearts inside of him, being overwhealm by darkness, of the suffering those hearts went through. Even if originally we only knew about Roxas, it make sense to me even back then.
While i took Rage Form more of a desperate case, that because of how weak he see's himself, and situations of crisis, he dives willing into the darkness, desperate to keep going... Because we see it through the game that the lesson kind of didn't stick the landing. Because Riku keeps using darkness yet he is like "No darkness is evil so i won't allow anyone on my watch to use darkness". The clear example is how on Frozen(I hate that world for multiple reason but it shows this the most), while Larxene talks about choice, Sora talks like she would fall to darkness, not choose to use the darkness for good like Riku does... I think that he just see's Riku as an exception, but everything else related to darkness is evil... He is still too childish on this aspect, like in a lot of other ones, but sadly this is negative aspect that he needs to grow out of it.

I believe in an interview nomura mentioned that anti form is triggered by sora wanting more power.
By KH3, I think sora and riku know that darkness is not evil but rather the people in them. There’s a cutscene in Kh2 that shows this understanding and I included a bit of it in the video but I probably should have elaborated more!

@@BioRoxas Debatable, it's always show that Riku has a better understanding of Darkness then Sora does, in fact, i took of that as Sora just going along with Riku not really understanding what he was saying on the Realm of Darkness. And some of his reactions to darkness on this game, and words make me believe that he never understood what Riku has been saying... It also goes with his personality the not understanding but going along as to what someone he trust is saying.

Also, a little theory of Anti/Rage Form
In KH2, the drive forms always brought more power from Sora's heart, but the more he used, the higher the chance from the darkness inside it was to come out, giving you the Anti Form, which is a source of strenght that Sora was never able to fully control.
Now in KH3, it comes out as a reponse to a dangerous situation, meaning that the darkness will come out and help Sora when he is in danger of death, but since Sora trained a lot from KH2 to 3, he is now able to keep his keyblade in this form.

I like to imagine that Anti-Form and Rage Form have something to do with the Shadow Sora Riku created in Neverland in kh1. I don't know how that connection could possibly work- But, well, I dunno how Riku created him. Maybe he actually *is* Sora's shadow, Peter Pan style, flooded with Darkness. And then when he got defeated, he went back into Sora somehow- so he has like...a distinct compartmentalized pocket of dark power inside him somewhere, like how he had Roxas, Xion, and Ven's hearts for so long- But since the Shadow Sora is pure darkness it's not a unique heart that can be released like those other three. It's just like...a little well of free dark power he can tap into when things get desperate without corrupting his own heart.

According to the wiki, you do gain +5 strength and +3 form seconds per Riskcharge, and the combo finisher's damage multiplier increases by 0.2 per Riskcharge, starting with a multiplier of 1.0, and having one of 1.6 at max Riskcharges.
The uppercut attack that can spawn pillars with Riskcharges does two hits with a power multiplier of 0.6, with each pillar basically just adding another hit with the same values as a single base hit (same power multiplier of 0.6, adding the same Form Value of 6, dealing 1 Reaction Value, and adding 0.5 Revenge Value).
Assuming that each pillar can do their own hit on a single target, it's basically doing double and a half damage.

I mean yes it’s not important to the form itself gameplay wise but I thought I’d point it out, and yes I can confirm each riskcharge does increase damage probably by about 10% or something, maybe more. Speaking of shotlocks I just thought of one that would be cool for rage form alone, what if you had to lock on to your teammates and you could take their health away and give it back to you? Probably would be OP to have a health syphon like that in this form tho but I wish it had one at all, same goes for dark magic, we know dark firaga and some dark blizzaga exists so, it would’ve been cool but probably too strong once again.

Here's a bit of a back story with this dark form. Now, I've heard that this was gained after Sora stabs himself in the chest to free Kairi's heart which caused him to turn into a Heartless and then regained his human form thanks to Kairi. I figured that this dark form had something to do with that scene, and I was right. Now, in Kingdom Hearts 2, Anti Form was a bit uncontrollable, like this was caused when using too many Drive Forms. In this game, he seems to gain more control over this form, like in 2, he runs on all fours, while in this, he runs on his two legs. In 2, he attacks by fists, while in this game, he attacks using the current keyblade he's still equipped with. and I've heard that this is active by anger, which explains why this is activeable when running low on health, as well as feeling the pain and loneliness of Roxas, Ventus and Xion. That's actually quite an interesting thing you pointed out. I do have a theory about why he was able to have more control over this form. This may have something to do with this part in Dream Drop Distance where the Organisation had put him to supposedly permanent sleep, which caused him to fall into darkness there. Then when Riku manage to wake him up, he's gain enough strength over the darkness, and as a result, more control over this dark form. Also, I've noticed that you seem to realise who the 3 hearts inside Sora's were, not many people realised who the third heart was and I already figured that it was Xion. There's a lot of evidence for this, including in Dream Drop Distance.

Favourite form. Downside is you have to be pretty much dead.

Maybe it's shrouded in darkness because recharges are part of soras heart which is why he takes literal damage for breaking them off to fight with

Don't get me wrong, rage mode is cool.
But anti form will always be in my heart, despite being a double edged sword

By Nomura's own words; Rage Form is just Sora being really, *really* pissed off.

Risk Charge also stuns when you use it. I use it during the inferno battle to extend combos

The head cannon I came up with for Rage Form and the drive forms is they each use a different source of power. For Valor Form Sora merges with Goofy who is a defender type character armed with a shield to boost his physical abilities as well as deactivating magic ability to strengthen his physical abilities even further like shutting off one of the 5 senses to sharpen the others, the rise in the anti-meter is caused by the physical exhaustion that comes from using the form. For Wisdom Form Sora merges with Donald and shuts down his physical abilities to focus on using magic, the rise in the anti-meter is due to mental exhaustion caused by the form. Limit Form is used by drawing out the power within Roxas to boost both physical and magic power but not to the extent of Valor or Wisdom Form but more like being able of fight at 100% constantly but the physical and mental strain caused isn’t as extreme as with Valor or Wisdom Form. Master Form is combines both Valor and Wisdom Form together by merging with both companions in the party fighting with both the physical strength of Valor Form and the magic ability of Wisdom Form at the cost of greater amounts of exhaustion. Anti Form is caused by the exhaustion and dark emotions built up over the course of Sora’s journey, the fear from constant adversaries that keep getting stronger or the pressure caused when fighting powerful opponents like the Organization members, the growing feeling of hopelessness due to his missing friends, and the fear of losing the friends fighting with him, the feelings of exhaustion caused by pushing his limits by using the drive forms, and the desire for more power when activating drive forms draws out the darkness within his heart and consumes his friends within himself in order to keep them safe however because Sora believes darkness to be evil he rejects the form splitting his focus on trying to repel the opponent before him and escaping the form noted by the form having low attack power but high speed it is focusing on escaping instead of fighting and it is also the reason why Sora can deactivate the form when not in combat since he can put all of his attention on deactivating the form the loss in defense is due to Sora’s constitution being unstable while in the form because the darkness that is fueling his body is being rejected the drop in the anti-meter is due to the darkness being being drained and the negative emotions being let out. Final Form is achieved in a different way: whenever Sora uses a drive form he feels a faint flicker within himself and every time he uses a drive form he reaches for that small feeling within but he can’t reach it on his own but with the help of his friends he was able to just reach it, and when he does a torrent seemingly endless amounts of power is unleashed activating Final Form unlike the other drive forms Final Form doesn’t leave Sora exhausted after using the form and that gives Sora the confidence he needed, after using the form Sora is reassured, with the help of his friends he can achieve a power far beyond anything he has ever felt before it gives him the hope that as long as he and his friends stand together everything will be okay. Rage Form is the controlled version of Anti Form after learning that darkness isn’t evil and accepting it he now willingly uses the form by using the fear/panic caused when he is low on health to provide a second wind both healing him entirely and providing him with more power Risk Charge is used by drawing upon the feelings of loneliness from Ventus, Roxas, and Xion in a random order, using this technique weakens Sora’s willpower by draining his hope but strengthens the darkness that fuels Rage Form, the reason why Sora can still use Risk Charge even after the three are freed from his heart is because even though they aren’t in his heart anymore the feelings of loneliness he had drawn out by using Risk Charge have now become a part of Sora because he had to experience those feelings in order to fuel the darkness

It sounds to me like it still draws from the same spring as Anti Forme, but with Sora now being aware that this darkness is in him, he can control it rather than being overwhelmed by it. The name also would imply that he is also drawing from, well, RAGE: not just the immediate anger of being hurt, but the compounding frustration of “not being good enough”, “nothing without friends”, or just plain tired of this conflict. We’ve seen at several points that Sora is hurting more than he lets on. Here, it’s all let out

Theory here, maybe each time he uses the charge move, due to there being three different stages of it, is him going further into those 3s separate pain of being alone, manifesting them into a physical state that, while it hurts him, causes the darkness to grow and become stronger

5:52 Also...so if riskcharge does more damage based on the pillars and tentacle ball....doesnt that mean it is stronger than regular rage form? Kinda weird to say it doesnt do more damage but yet...it does.

Maybe its like how Dark Arts of Dark Knight jobs work in FF 14 they use their Rage to Ignite their Aether/Mana to gain the Power of Darkness and yes thats as Dangerous as its sounds or Sora can use Dynamis the counterpart to Aether in FF14 Lore

The first attack in 1:44 mark looks like that one attack Terra did in "Command Style: Dark Impulse".
Also this may just be me but it feels like Rage form uses other wielders moves but adjusted: Like Terra's Dark Impulse attack, Ventus for the mid-air attack(the one where Bio-Roxas metion Sora wielding the keyblade backwards), and dark barrier repressenting Riku or Aqua. Just a "food for thought".
Also; Is it just me or is some of those attacks look similar to Anti-Forms attacks?

Personally I find it Kool there was differences on anti and rage form. I first thought of the form have something to do with darkness (quiteobviously.) But what had me the most, anti doesn't have party members as support ( Rage form however does.) Sure rage have a keyblade but I actually think that Sora could easy taped into this form by either desperation or by choice . Wen taking a risk 😂 you'll see Crystal's or I believe are 💓 of Roxas, Ventus and Sixon . I personally think that's the reason why Sora can use a key in this form .. just maybe it a way to assist Sora wen he'd in a tough spot
