    I love the symbolism behind the Return to the Light command and what follows afterwards. Xehanort used his immense power to rob Sora of the light and force him to embrace darkness to fight back. Once Sora gets the upper hand, he strikes back and returns to his normal self. Xehanort, however ends up even stronger, taken on an appearance similar to Rage Form. Seeing as Sora's inner light shines so bright, the shadows he casts are immense, which is why his inner darkness is so powerful. By forcing that darkness out of Sora and getting him to use it on him, Xehanort was able to add Sora's darkness to his own, making him even more powerful. That's how I saw it anyway.

    • @SonnyFRST
      @SonnyFRST 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Here's a simpler way to put it:
      Xehanort either thought Sora would be powerless without Lux, or that Sora would fail miserably at channeling his inner darkness, like Terra. Either way, he made two fatal mistakes:
      1. Sora may be as stupid as Terra, but he is nowhere near as emotionally unstable as Terra was back then.
      2. Sora may not have a PhD in Keyblade science, but he's still a master swordsman with enough skill and experience to wreck most opponents. (Seriously, what was Yen Sid thinking?)

    • @Xahnel
      @Xahnel ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have a theory of my own, and it may be utterly unique, because I never see anyone talk about this.
      Sora was a heartless for the later part of KH1, and the whole of Castle Oblivion, Days, and the seven days Roxas was being artificially combined with him. My evidence is simple: Sora becomes a shadow when he releases Kairi's heart.
      Back then, his light shined brightly, and his darkness was near nonexistent. He retained a sort of instinctual recognition of Kairi, and sought her out. He knew it was her, and she knew his heart on sight. She somehow turned the darkness back into a Sora shape, with Sora's memories and power intact. This has consequences for Roxas, who is born without memory or power.
      The natural method to recreate a person is to destroy Heartless and Nobody. Sora's Heartless was not destroyed. Roxas was not destroyed. And yet Sora lives. Somehow.
      So now, Sora's Heartless delves to the deepest, blackest darkness. He knows with 100% certainty despite not having heard of a Kingdom Hearts before that day, that Kingdom Hearts is light. He knows this as sure as breathing, as if it is instinct. More evidence.
      Ansem the Seeker is defeated for now, and Sora's Heartless makes his way to Castle Oblivion. And in Castle Oblivion, Sora is tormented, physically attacked, berated, abused, gaslit. Org 13 wants him broken mentally, and they fill his heart with pain, anger, sadness, betrayal, and darkness. And Namine, attempting to fix what she broke, shattered the connecting chain of those memories, hiding them away forever, in the dark. And that darkness festered. Sora is put into the pod for a year, and his heartless feeds on these broken links of memory, growing in power.
      Roxas suffers. He suffers greatly. Xion suffers too. Xion is consumed by Roxas. Roxas is consumed by Sora. More darkness added to the pile.
      Sora is introduced to Drive Forms, a temporary measure to boost his power in times of need, and it is through form changes that his Heartless breaks free into the real world.
      The only time this is addressed is in a text bubble from a mirror that vaguely hints about losing control and darkness overtaking Sora. There is never a cutscene, or a mention, not even by Riku, who could probably smell the darkness.
      And then something happens to the darkness when Sora is partially norted in 3Ds. Sora's Heartless reappears in KH3, and this time, it comes out swinging a goddamn keyblade. And the only time this is addressed is when Xehanort drains Sora's light, and unleashes the beast. Did he do it on purpose, because he knew what would come out? Or was he caught unawares, and beaten like a drum by a Heartless he could not control?
      We don't know, because feckin nobody addresses this angry clawing teleporting thing that shreds bad guys like a living nutrabullet.
      Sora's Heartless is just going to keep getting stronger. And nobody is talking about this.

      @@Xahnel Very interesting. So, are you saying that Sora's been a human Heartless like Ansem Seeker of Darkness this whole time, or are you basing all of this off of the dialogue in Coded where Data Riku tells Data Sora that Sora's Heartless has basically been with him every step of the way on his journey ever since he used the Keyblade of Heart on himself in Hollow Bastion?

      No offense, but in the final battle I think they gave more representation of Sora's pain and anger because Xehanort just killed Kairi in front of him, one of the people Sora loved the most (and then the previous scenes where he saw Kairi die , his friends in front of him and let's not talk about the previous events in KH, they would leave more than one with problems, in addition to the low self-esteem problems that Sora has) and well, they have every justification for attacking Xehanort.

    It has been implied that the heartless of a person takes form depending on the darkness within the original self's heart right?
    The person with the strongest darkness in the series so far (Xehanort) had a humanoid heartless (Ansem).
    Sora's heartless has been changing from a simple shadow to this humanoid form throughout the series, which is also humanoid...
    Boy, maybe Sora's inner darkness is getting closer to Xehanort's?

    • @stevenhiggins3055
      @stevenhiggins3055 4 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      No, I don't think that's exactly what's happening. It's wierd, but I'll try to explain. First, he became a shadow, that is the only time he ever really became a Heartless, we know that. With Anti-Form, that's a result of the lingering darkness. Nomura said that story-wise, Anti-Form is a result of that event. I don't think it's growing exactly, he's just retains his human form because he *is* still human. In Anti-Form, well, how can I put this, I think that it's basically that his Heartless, or rather, his darkness, is coming out and covering his physical body, like he's wearing a suit of it. So i think it's the same amount of darkness, but spread out, like when you roll dough, I guess. But he does essentially loose control in that form. He looses access to the Keyblade and can't even Revert if there are enemies around. Nomura said that Rage form doesn't go as far into the darkness and Anti-form, so I think Sora has gained more control of the darkness, And now with Dark Form, I think he finally has enough control that he doesn't get completely covered in shadow.

      @@meteornome2556 No, Nomura flat-out said it's a result of him becoming a Heartless to save Kairi. He didn't say anything about a desire for power, which goes against Sora's character anyway. At worse one could argue that Anti-form is a result of Sora *abusing* a newfound power. Because we all know he does things without thinking about the consequences. But as it is, the official story is that if he had never become a Heartless, Anti-Form would not exist.

    • @meteornome2556
      @meteornome2556 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@stevenhiggins3055 Him becoming a heartless is what allowed him to revert into a heartless whenever he sometimes enters a drive form is why anti appears. But him desiring more power is what can help bring it out. Whenever Sora enters a drive form it's him desiring more power then his base form which is why in Drive Forms he absorbs his friends Donald and Goofy (they are his power.) it's not too out of character because Sora does have moments where he can be selfish at times this is the same kid that entertained the idea of ruling the Pride Land's as it's King. Much like he has moments where he gets frustrated, it's not often but it does happen.

    I don't recall if I mentioned this in the first breakdown, but my theory about Riskcharge relates to the first plan for saving the hearts inside Sora. Ansem and Xemnas were goading Sora to fall into darkness to release their hearts, and I think Riskcharge is exactly that: falling so close to darkness that Sora's heart is on the verge of leaving his body, with the 3 hearts about to be freed.

    Thats could be a lore explanation for it, but probably the reason for not being able to risk charge in that phase is because it's useless since you don't even do any damage to Xehanort

  • @TheElementsAreWithMe

    Given what I heard of the differences between anti and rage is that in 2, when activating drive form he draws power from the light in his heart, but as we know those who has agreed over the light casts shadows, which is fitting. The more light there is the more noticeable the darkness. This him being ranted by anti form. With rage it's sort of a heartless/unversed combo relying on negative emotions, in this case rage. Which means that how his formchanges also work, through emotions, positive ones at that. Notice how in most of his form changes, you see him smiling during the transition. So I'm short, Drives rely on power from the heart itself, while formchanges rely on emotions.

    Your friend noticed the 'heart leaving' sound and visual effect in Rage Form too? I thought it was only me! I find this really similar to the animation for Trinity Limit in the original Kingdom Hearts. The moment it's triggered, Sora lifts his keyblade to the sky as the glowing orbs (resembling the series' depiction of hearts) leave both Donald and Goofy to join together at it's tip before he thrusts it into the ground to perform the rest of the attack.
    Rare attacks/abilities like these always convey to me a real sense of the raw strength and sacrifice that takes place during their execution. Love it!

    I've been playing the kh games a while now, just wanted to say that the sound you hear during riskcharge is also the same one that plays when Data Roxas transforms a Castle Oblivion room into his battlefield in Re:Coded before "teaching" Sora "what true hurt feels like". So this only further proves the theory that he's harnessing the "hurt" from the memories of the people inside him/connected to him, which implies that Data Roxas lowkey taught Sora rage form.

    However, I am surprised that the theory that Vanitas is in control during rage form hasn't been mentioned (or maybe you just don't believe in it xP). I find it interesting that Sora changes the way he wields the keyblade during rage form but his heartless in Coded wield it like he usually does. Also, the fact that Vanitas said 'I'm the shadow that you cast' and Sora's shadow disappears in both rage and anti-form is....something lol.
    Edit: One more thing: It's suspicious that Sora has some of Ven's attacks in this form. Where could that knowledge be coming from if Ven has been asleep 99% of the time? lol

    • @AnimeHokageHD
      @AnimeHokageHD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! My view of the Return to light finishing ability will have a 60-75% chance of instant KO on other enemies if it was replaced to the alternate quick finisher (except those with absolute instant KO resistance). If there was a change in the game to get into rage form easily there should be a rage corruption percentage for Sora based on the damage received (like the corruption percentage in Death End Re quest/Death End Re quest 2 where going into 80% corruption, the party members go into their "glitch"/rage form. Their glitch attack is a wild tri act attack dealing massive damage on foes but ends the glitch form. As an example)
      The buffs should be fixed rage buff where you cannot end, dispel or remain in rage form for the rest of the battle unless a party member uses a panacea, rage corruption down making it harder to get into rage form and rage corruption up making it easier to get to rage form but at a cost of your defence.

    So is Sora get hurt emotionally and fueled with rage 🤔 whenever he riskcharges, and could it possibly be that Sora is fused with Darksied (since technically one of them destroyed the island) or being fused with Shadows/Neo Shadows and Darksied's power

    • @BioRoxas
      @BioRoxas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hmm it's possible! I feel like maybe to go into Rage Form he channels his rage and then to grow stronger, he channels the loneliness from the hearts inside him!
      Also I think the original darkside we saw from KH1 in the Station of Awakening was supposed to represent Sora's Darkness so maybe that is why he has an ability similar to the Darksides!

    They should make a way to obtain this form in the new dlc. Maybe a specific keyblade or skill/command rather than a conditioning. Like complete everything 100%, critical mode, max level, all trophies, etc… Also if they for whatever reason sell this transformation I would so buy it in a heartbeat. (I wish anti form was in the game too. 😭)

    Thanks for this video. I think I have a good grasp on Kingdom Hearts as a whole but I never understood anything about Rage Form or what's even supposed to be happening. Does the game explain this at all? It seems like both Rage Form and Attractions should have been ~somehow~ been given an in-story introduction.. Not complaining, it's just I really want to know more about why these things are happening.

    • @stevenhiggins3055
      @stevenhiggins3055 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rage form doesn't really need an explanation though, it's just an evolved/more controlled Anti form, as evidenced by the fact that while Sora is still in his KH2 clothes, Rage form looks exactly like Anti form. The only real difference is that hes using anger, not darkness, making it closer to an Unversed than a Heartless.

(keep in mind i basicly treat rage form as punish mode along with a seperate cool down heal. and a few really important i-frames.)
