Old Dodge Truck OEM Stereo... with BLUETOOTH?!?!

  • Can you have a tape deck, CD player... and Bluetooth in your old car or truck?! Check out #TheOldDodge playlist for more videos about my classic 1987 Dodge Ram D150.
I've had bad luck with eBay but if you want a similar radio check out 1factoryradio.com (NOT SPONSORED). They didn't have any for my truck, but hopefully they will in the future.
NOTE ABOUT THE END: So yeah... dropping the radio means I'll keep it. I may try and take it apart and fix it myself down the road. (It survived the drop on the concrete without a scratch!) Yes, if you buy a busted item on eBay you can get your money back sometimes. I had already returned and exchanged the radio once and that process took 5 weeks. At this point I didn't feel like going back and forth with the seller again. Time is more valuable than money.

Hey I threw a Mopar AM/FM CB radio in my 84 RC. That radio was optional with the Lil Red for example. I had it modified to bluetooth by a specialst and i would do it again. The design fits great in our old stile dash board!

(my 90 D100) just bought an aftermarket radio last weekend. I haven't installed it yet. Two weekends ago, I rebuilt my front suspension. Day before yesterday I removed the seat and maintenance'd the seat slider track and replaced all the wiper bushings. Yesterday I descaled, wire-wheel'd, primered (etching) and bed line'r my truck (Six months ago I did all the u-joints, fyi)
Thats why I watch your channel, because you know as I do that you have to keep up with these older vehicles or they go downhill, quickly. The old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't really apply here.

I bought a radio like this for my 2005 trail blazer off ebay and had good luck. Was eyeing one for my old dodge. Hopefully when i get the cab sealed up enough to hear, and the rats nest in the hvac box cleaned out and working, ill have better luck with the radio. Thank you for this series. This is cool.

    Hi Jason,
Thanks for the videos on the old truck! I have an 89 D100 318/500 loadflite. I restored my truck back to a factory radio when I bought it. I bought a used 5 channel/tape/cd to put in it. After a few months it had lost some of the lights and the power button was not in good shape. I happen to have my truck serviced at an actual Chrysler dealership, and they service manager told me they are constantly sending out radios to have them repaired and replaced for customers. So I had them do that to my unit and it came back perfect and has been working flawlessly for over 10 years now. So, there is an option if you're looking to keep it factory.
For the audio cable and bluetooth, I have a system that hooks into the antenna cable and when activated, takes over the lowest FM channel on my radio. It's a tiny little switch and 3.5 aux input at the bottom of my dash.

So, I've found after buying four of these trucks, is the only real way to protect the inside of a bed is to put a camper topper on it. Possibly put in one of those old school rubber bed mats as well. They simply lay over the bed floor, instead of being painted on and hard to reverse.

  • @richardbates2367
    @richardbates2367 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Oh on the ones that you have had issues with ive ran across a few one grey plug and one black plug that the wires are pinned slightly different than other years so you might look into that and see if that is a issue with the newer Chrysler stereo in your 86-88 dodge ram truck Jason sir, and i say that after owning a 74 dodge club cab truck, and a 90 dodge Dakota SE and the 2000 dodge ram and the 3 are not pinned correctly or the same is what I mean...

    $288.00!?
That could have bought 3 aftermarket decks!
I daily drive an 86 RWD V-8 Cheeseler, have for decades, love em', BUT!
The first thing I deep six is the OEM deck.
JVC, Pioneer, take your choice. Mine was $120.00.
You get hands free, with a microphone, two USB ports and features that take three sides of the box to list(a lot).
Your kids can plug in any hand held device made and my USB stick holds thousands of songs.
It also plays CDs and DVDs, though I cannot remember the last time I veered from my USB stick's play lists....and I'm a boomer that grew up on 8 tracks.
The last JVC head unit I put in seven years ago is still going strong and cranks out enough power that I didn't bother installing an amp this time.
Second tip? Take the factory 5X7 speakers and and fling em' into the nearest waterway.
Any Cheeseler vehicle that can fit 5X7s can have the holes hogged out(nibbler) to fit real 6X9s.
They don't just sound better, they're actually cheaper and WAY more plentiful than 5X7s, for choice.
Don't waste another dime on stock OEM head units or speakers ....they blow.
