I can’t speak for everyone else, but I loved Santa’s idea of putting a V8 in the Camaro. If you decide to do another project rebuild this one has my vote.
OK now we're talking. I've been waiting for this Camaro video since I first noticed the beautiful machine amongst your other gems. Gonna get myself a PBR and kick back to this one.
You always have the best guests on the channel. You work great with them! I was really hoping you'd be able to get this 80s oddity going, but I'm not surprised that a 39 year old car like this would have so many issues.
Randy try a wet compression test, squirt oil in each cylinder and test compression again. Stuck rings or head gasket Take valve cover off and watch the rocker arms . With the valve cover off bring it up on compression on number 1 and look at the timing mark on balancer? You can get one more video to diagnose.
Ah the Slow Tech IV (Tech IV) engine. A bulletproof and reliable engine. Very distinctive when running due to the lack of timing chain/belt (they used meshed gears). They were used in the first generation of the Grumman LLV mail truck and you could always tell when the mail person was there. it probably was way underpowered to be under the hood of an F Body (just like the 2.3l I4 was too underpowered to be in the Fox Body Mustang of the same era. That airport tug is paying off for you with all the cars it has pushed and pulled.
I had a timing gear go out on one of those iron dukes. The crank gear was steel and the cam gear was something softer. The cam gear stripped out on mine.
Larry Moe Curley of auto rebuild world. You guys certainly are entertaining and yet you managed to get most things to run. Keep up your good work and be safe
That car has a ton of potential, especially with the solid body. That was a great find. I know that the Iron Duke is slow, but it is super rare, and pretty cool. It may just have stuck rings.
I have been waiting all this time for you to do the camaro video. I love 3rd gen camaros. I have 2 of them which are works in progress and it's a labor of love for sure.
I had an 86 s10 blazer with that 4 banger and a 5 speed. I couldn't kill that engine. I had almost 200k miles on it when i sold it, still running and driving.
Mr Randy sir, Give the Camaro to Santa. He’ll do the swap no worries. You have no time and too many projects going on to be worried about it. Yes it’s a four banger Camaro which is a rare one at that but in need of a ton of work. Sad but true. I’m like you with the old school but I think it’s time to go crazy with this one and not try to bring it back to life. Put a new bigger heart in it. Great video, nice to see the three amigos back in action!!! 👍
Tech-4 is what they called them I think. My friend used to have a Cutlass Ciera back in high school with the Duke and we called it the Gutlass Duke-era.
I love 3rd gen Camaros, my mom had several when I was a kid, I had a '89 RS years ago that I LT1/T56 swapped with a '95 Z28 parts car, a lot of 3rd and 4th gen parts interchange. I'd love to have another, I have a 5.3 in my shed that needs a home.
They changed to "Iron Puke" when Pontiac put them in the Fiero. The story I read was the dipstick for it was too long, showing full oil when it only had 2/3 quarts.
Too bad on the Camaro situation, I was hoping you'd get it to run once again, but no, definitely not with that engine. It's an older body style that's getting harder to find, hopefully you'll figure out a good solution for it.
That design Camaro began in 1982 and the base Camaro had those slots in the bumper cover then around 1985 Chevy made those slots narrower. My brothers father in law bought one new and barely drove it, and babied it. He had it up for sale for a long time and finally sold it for more than he bought it for. He bought a 1954 Corvette project in pieces years ago with plans to restore it after he retired. In his early 60’s his health deteriorated and he had to quit working around age 62 then passed away in his late 60’s not feeling well enough to work on the Corvette. He also had a big inventory of Chevy NOS parts. My brother tried to help his mother in law to sell the NOS parts but she’s really really really hard to get along with and he walked away from that situation. Don’t ask me where the Corvette is or if it’s still for sale because my brother told me don’t even ask her.
Finally an update on this! Drop a confirmed working iron duke into it, drop a V8 into it, or give it away to someone that will do a video on fixing it somehow.
Is there time for the LS3 swap? Maybe when at a time when you and everyone else have time to do it together. That would probably be spring time but that would give you a chance to gather parts and sponsors. Another great video with some of the favourite TH-camr's. Thank you all.
I had an 84 camero was red with tan interior and had 2.8 lit. Your right the computer was under kicker? I had a lot of fun with that car. Keep up with the great content love your videos.
Back in the early 90s my dad had the dealer install AC onto his 1994 Geo Metro XFi, talk about robbing horsepower lol. After that you had to pin the gas pedal to the floor and it BARELY moved
I have no idea why people never understand that not every car had the highest option engines in them. Especially ones made during the energy crisis. They had Camaros with the low engine options, as well as with steel wheels with no hubcaps if you were super cheap. Those are always rarer because next to nobody bought them, and the ones that did survive got fucked over by idiots engine swapping them.
I'd say the old iron duke has been extremely over heated and is done it's the perfect LS swap .but if I was to when it in your give aways I'd give it away to Santa Mike.
one of the previous owners relocated the ecm to try to keep it cooler so it wouldn't burn out. that's why all of the green wire and butt connectors came from. as far as the iron duke...... i would be bet that the rings are stuck form not running for so long. put some oil into the cyllinders and try to run it again. if you can get enough heat into the engine you might free up the rings and bring the compression up. if that doesn't work then replace the engine
Do a mustie1. Put some oil/gas mix in the cylinders and crank it for a solid half hour until the rings start to reseat themselves and compression comes up... that man knows how to give a starter a workout... 😀 But yeah send it down the road. She's too tired.
Well, that's sad. I had a firebird with the 4 banger in it. Was as gutless as the day is long but, never left me walking. I say give it to Santa and be sone with it.
The 2.5 has timing gears rather than timing chain. You should fix it. It is a rare car, I have been looking for 20 years and they just don't come up in Canada.
My speculation is that the car sat for a long time and the ECU connectors have been either melted or something really bad happened to them. So somebody found a different set of connectors from either a different car, a different model year Camaro or just a different ECU and basically botched the wires together.
I get it Randy lol,at one time I was going to buy a 98-99 brown used to be a light metallic blue Acura integra GSR but it had no drivetrain and the bottom of the doors were bashed in and I wanted to put a 6.8 litre triton v10 2002 motor and transmission from a 2wd f250 xl work truck in the integra lol
Let Santa have it He already knows the engine is bad and does not run Anyone else might walk away from it even given away free knowing it does not run But there could be someone that will pull the engine and drop a V8 in it
Randy that Camaro has a good body go to copart find a savaged Camaro with a good v8 engine and put In the 1984 camaro and then get a paint job and she be a nice fast car and add some new wheels and tires on it
Good morning Randy Mike aka Santa's Workshop and TK. Let's see if this 1984 Chevrolet Camero will run and drive. And are you planning to give it to Mike aka Santa's Workshop.
Randy I have an Original3Rd generation v8 that came out of my 1986 Z28 Camero it Ran when i pulled it out I just wanted a 5.7 instead of the 5.0 I have in in my storage unit at my house I was going to return for the core charge but I’d be willing to give it away
Would be cool to see a swap on the good ‘ol 3rd gen.! Santa had the right idea! Pull motor, clean it up…send it to Maaco, then swap a 350 or even a LS in that bad boy!
If you guys are wondering why he hasn't posted the M5...I had a dream last night & Randy told me: its because he is afraid the video will ''fail'' and get no views.
I can’t speak for everyone else, but I loved Santa’s idea of putting a V8 in the Camaro. If you decide to do another project rebuild this one has my vote.
It's great to see all of you guys hanging out. Thanks for the great content.
OK now we're talking. I've been waiting for this Camaro video since I first noticed the beautiful machine amongst your other gems. Gonna get myself a PBR and kick back to this one.
I like Santa's idea. Pull the motor and put in a 5.3 and a Maaco paint job.
You always have the best guests on the channel. You work great with them! I was really hoping you'd be able to get this 80s oddity going, but I'm not surprised that a 39 year old car like this would have so many issues.
I would love to see a 383 stroker in this Camaro, I bet it wouldn't be slow anymore 😀😎
Randy try a wet compression test, squirt oil in each cylinder and test compression again.
Stuck rings or head gasket
Take valve cover off and watch the rocker arms .
With the valve cover off bring it up on compression on number 1 and look at the timing mark on balancer?
You can get one more video to diagnose.
Hey Randy, so the airport tug turned out to be a useful investment! good on you! Appreciate your channel looking forward to the next episode!
That Airport tug has been super handy 🤘🏽😊
Ah the Slow Tech IV (Tech IV) engine. A bulletproof and reliable engine. Very distinctive when running due to the lack of timing chain/belt (they used meshed gears). I was hoping so bad that the camaro would run. It breaks my heart to see all that low compression and it not being able to run.
@@locotrucker46 Same here. Too bad that motor is toast...
I had an 86 s10 blazer with that 4 banger and a 5 speed. I couldn't kill that engine.
I had almost 200k miles on it when i sold it, still running and driving.
Hell yeah 👍, another GR8 day for a AAR video..
Mr Randy sir, Give the Camaro to Santa. He’ll do the swap no worries. You have no time and too many projects going on to be worried about it. Pull Everything out, put in anything with a Standard type of ignition and Drive It!!
Great self cartoon image at the end!! Keep up the good work Randy.
I have been waiting for this one. As a Camaro fan I'm very satisfied
Tech-4 is what they called them I think. My friend used to have a Cutlass Ciera back in high school with the Duke and we called it the Gutlass Duke-era.
When I was a little kid, my dad had one of these, in a light purple, I would call it the Barnie Car lol
I agree with a lot of the other comments I’d like to see Santa get the Camaro he as well as tk are always a great part of your videos
Santa could turn it into a wicked sled for Christmas. 🎅🏻👍🏻

V10 Ford swap or 5.3 V8 LS swap! And a fancy color Maaco paintjob!
I think the V10 swap would be more unique, but in both cases I'll be watching!
Good Video Randy Always Entertaining With TK& Santa (Michael) In The Video Good Idea Find A 5.3 Truck Motor Put In The Car
You should repaint it And put a 350 with a stick shift in it. Now THAT would be an AWESOME car.
Too bad on the Camaro situation, I was hoping you'd get it to run once again, but no, definitely not with that engine. It's an older body style that's getting harder to find, hopefully you'll figure out a good solution for it.

As a 3rd gen owner, I love this video!
Randy great content every time. I’ve been subscribed so long I can’t even remember. I remember the Chevy Cruze, blue 350z and all that jazz😂
I really like that car to be honest with you. Love it. Good video.
Never give up on her
3 80’s cars in a Garage, nice.
Nice pick up and good use of things around you
I had an 84 camero was red with tan interior and had 2.8 lit.
You tried your best on the camero
It is rare to see a 4 cylinder in that year 👍👍👍
Keep up the great work Randy

Hi TK and Santa. All we need in Monkey Wrench Mike and the gang is back together.
Ford V10 Camaro! Hell yes! On a budget.
Awesome! I hope it starts! This was my first car ! A 4cyl Camaro! Please start!
Gotta love that iron maiden 4 cylinder!
Good luck you will need it on that car randy tell Santa an tk hellow see you soon
This is going to be a great video 🤘🤘
@Text me on Telegram 👉+①(⑥⑤⑦)⑤②③-①④③⑦ scammer pound sand
You should did a POV inside the car. Seems interesting as hell.
The best value for the money is get a longitudinal Buick231 CID 3800 Series II Supercharged V-6 and drop in as these 3800's are everywhere and cheap.
This is the one I’ve waited for, I like the 4 cylinder Camaro.
one of the previous owners relocated the ecm to try to keep it cooler so it wouldn't burn out. that's why all of the green wire and butt connectors came from. as far as the iron duke...... i would be bet that the rings are stuck form not running for so long. put some oil into the cyllinders and try to run it again. if you can get enough heat into the engine you might free up the rings and bring the compression up. if that doesn't work then replace the engine
Randy, give it to Mike! Let him LS swap it and make a few videos now that the summer temperatures have past.
Santa and TK would make a great pair of bookends. Just sayin!
This video man 😂 Santa always makes me laugh and fun
My dad had a 4cy firebird when I was a kid. As a kid it was “cool”, looking back, it was a turd 😅. Had 0 power and was half worn out when we got it
It's a perfect candidate for a V8. That airport tug sure is handy.
Do a mustie1. Put some oil/gas mix in the cylinders and crank it for a solid half hour until the rings start to reseat themselves and compression comes up... that man knows how to give a starter a workout... 😀
But yeah send it down the road. She's too tired.
put a LS in it and make it in to a drag car
I have a 1986 Iroc I'm trying to fix the wiring in right now after saving it from the previous owner.
Oil in the combustion chamber might help your compression enough to get it started
Well, that's sad. I had a firebird with the 4 banger in it. Was as gutless as the day is long but, never left me walking. I say give it to Santa and be sone with it.
Casper decided to put the keys in the center console for you as a practical joke LOL it's all good Randy still love your content
The 2.5 has timing gears rather than timing chain. You should fix it. It is a rare car, I have been looking for 20 years and they just don't come up in Canada.
You need a air intake on your TRX like Goonzquad just put on
Yes , it’s fried. So, don’t think your doing anyone a favor by giving away. Thanks for sharing Randy!
Iron Duke was rwd, camaro, monza, S-10, etc. Fwd was the 4-tech days.. lol
My speculation is that the car sat for a long time and the ECU connectors have been either melted or something really bad happened to them. So somebody found a different set of connectors from either a different car, a different model year Camaro or just a different ECU and basically botched the wires together.
im thinking aftermarket ac the evaporator lives where the ecm use to so they moved it.
Merry christmas finally Santa gets a GIFT
Heck yeah! I was beginning to think that you and TK broke up...
I can believe that iron Duke is still in there after all the years. No v8 conversion yet? Wow
Oil the cylinders and try that compression test again.
I had one when I was 16 I had to sell it when my first son was born . But boy do I miss it
That's the motor that's in every postal llv you see going from mailbox to mailbox. Strong runner but gutless wounder.
It have a realy nice body, with a little work it Will look amazing all in metal
Let Santa have it He already knows the engine is bad and does not run Anyone else might walk away from it even given away free knowing it does not run But there could be someone that will pull the engine and drop a V8 in it
I saw a bumper sticker on a 4Runner that would be perfect for the Camaro.
You think I’m slow now, wait will I go uphill
Aye! What up Randy?💯✌️
Nooo please fix it I love this Camaro if it was mine I’ll fix it it has a nice clean body you don’t see much with no rust anymore
had one with the 4 cylinder and it lasted me 10 days it was a nice car but that was it.
Would be a sweet motor and trans swap car. Just a basic one too and not fuel injected.
Dude keep that tug its been a huge help. Especially with your busted wing
Give it to Michael he helps you out alot and probably ask for nothing in return
Randy that Camaro has a good body go to copart find a savaged Camaro with a good v8 engine and put In the 1984 camaro and then get a paint job and she be a nice fast car and add some new wheels and tires on it
They were also in about 3 gazillion S10 s as well!
That car deserves a better engine with modern EFI
give it to Santa and maybe he can get lucky and find a head for it at a junk yard. bet anything the valves are shot. or maybe an LS swap!
Good morning Randy Mike aka Santa's Workshop and TK. Let's see if this 1984 Chevrolet Camero will run and drive. And are you planning to give it to Mike aka Santa's Workshop.
I believe if I remember correctly that Santa 🎅 has a extra Motor out of the Elcamino that would be Awesome in the Camaro.
Tech 4 was the official name, built by Pontiac Motor Division. Yes it runs, they all do lol
LS the Camaro I always wanted one in high school and they have lots of issues but it would be cool
If you are giving it away, give it to Santa's Workshop
Hmm i thought maybe you would get it running but no way! Not sure what you should do with it!
The Camaro is not a Flintstone moble as it doesn't have to be stopped by Santa's feet. LOL
I've been waiting for this one
Randy I have an Original3Rd generation v8 that came out of my 1986 Z28 Camero it Ran when i pulled it out I just wanted a 5.7 instead of the 5.0 I have in in my storage unit at my house I was going to return for the core charge but I’d be willing to give it away
Yeah keep airport tug it works great to push car round save times
Would be cool to see a swap on the good ‘ol 3rd gen.! Santa had the right idea! Pull motor, clean it up…send it to Maaco, then swap a 350 or even a LS in that bad boy!
If you guys are wondering why he hasn't posted the M5...I had a dream last night & Randy told me: its because he is afraid the video will ''fail'' and get no views.
