@@breakingthemasks It takes 4 years to become an electrician. I became one because it was a pathway to owning my own business. No unions. You can't work as an electrician if your union has no work. Apply at a company and tell them you are green and want to become an electrician. The pay at first is low. And the work is hard. I sold my 3 businesses to the guys who helped me start my businesses. One started with me over a decade ago as a green helper and now owns the business he started with. My plan was to invest in 3 bigger construction companies that have a fantastic infrastructure in place and are expanding. That allows me to handle the sales and marketing side of business. That in turn has put me on the pathway to begin the process of starting a marketing company that specializes in construction marketing. I had a 25 year plan. I broke that plan down into goals and tasks.

Interns go through a rotating program that lasts two years but your 2.5 years is enough time to know everything there is to know about Wall St eh. I hated corporate life, too. Been there. Done that. Wasn’t worth it. After I got sick due to the overwhelming stress I was done. Just not worth your health and sanity.
My husband refuses to go to management at his job. The managers don’t get paid enough to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We noticed most of them were divorced and didn’t really know their own kids. He has a nice paying job that we try to live well under his wage. Good for you for making such a great decision young!
In San diego there is a compressor and gtg manufacturer where all of the engineers ride ferari and the management ride usual car. The manager cannot force the engineer to work at their schedule if the engineer said no. the company is prosperous and subsidiary of s&p 500 company
This is absolutely correct. You give up everything to be the all star in those jobs. It’s a good experience for a few years when you’re young but if you want a family or something other than work it’s not reasonable.

AHHHHHH I’m dead!! I lost my shit when she gave the middle finger to her former boss. When my job changed managers and the new manager zeroed in on me, I was like hell no. That wasn’t in my mind. A lot of people started quitting. Corporate was to stupid to see that she wasn’t a good match. I found another job and quit three days later.
Wall Street is hard. I’ve been a licensed invest advisor with the SEC since 2005. I left after 20 years because i beat it, I won. I’m 41, retired, single, happy and rich. I invested heavy and consistently into NVDA for years. I did my homework, I took on the risk of being wrong, and I won.
I was a financial analyst for 4 years, and literally the same thing happened to me. It took me awhile to see that my mental health was more important than a job where I had zero respect and worked long hours.
I don’t understand WTF goes on in these finance fields where it’s supposedly just normal to work 12 hours a day or something??? How is that normalized? I see this in accounting with friends and family, and it just seems like overall, the finance field is filled with BS that people are supposed to accept for a chance to make it “big” after some years of experience.

Well, I left the hedge fund job for 2 main reasons: people and personal life (I have no complaint with the "pay" though). You are correct about the a**holes within the industry and the looooooong hours, but the pay was absolutely awesome.

Tell me because I had a pretty face nobody was ever going to take me seriously. She came to my office directly to share that with me that was the only thing she shared with me at that moment in time when it was reported to HR, nothing was done and they found it Null and void as they put it even though we had open cubicle space, and one of the pharmacist heard her say that to me. Needless to say, I left that company shortly after I’m not sure why these companies think because you were their employee they’re allowed to abuse you.

GOOD FOR YOU! I left a job i loved for similar reasons, my original manager was amazing and we were a perfect team. She left to move to texas and our director was terrible at managing people who asked questions, aka me. Things he used to appreciate about what i beought to the office soon became reasons for him to nitpick and harrassment ensued. I talked to HR and tried to make it work, but left on my 2nd anniversary with the company because things were not getting better
Each reason alone would be valid! I left a career at a nonprofit that had a lot of positive attributes but it was a sinking ship due to upcoming changes in state regulations. I have never looked back.

My dad died when I was a teenager and when I was older and it came time to pick a career path, Ino longer had that desire to be a work horse for 10 years in order to maybe be cushy later on. My daughter as offered one of those stressful jobs on Wall Street where you make money but have zero time for a personal life or to start a family. She wanted a work life balance and good pay so she took a job in tech at Google instead and she loves it there. Happily married with children now which is something she always wanted and would have to have delayed if she had gone to Wall Street. Her classmates that did go to Wall Street burned out after a couple years.
Um hokay. Lemme break this down for you. Every singular experience does not unilaterally define everyone else’s experience across the board. There are many MANY variables that affect your pay, work environment, work life balance, etc. Starting off, not every job aka role within the same company is going to be paid exactly the same. First, the responsibilities of the role are considered, the market rate for similar roles on the street, and the skills and performance evaluation of the current job holder coupled with the management for that team>department>lob etc all factor into what the pay is going to be. And even with all things being equal, two people can do the same or similar roles but in two different departments and get paid differently because for example middle office jobs have different pay scales than front office or back office etc. Not to mention management pull is stronger in some areas able to get more approved. Also some lobs are considered profit generators while others are considered overhead. So the piece of the pie is smaller when budget is allocated for salaries and raises/bonuses etc. When it comes to management and your environment and work life balance, that is going to vary a lot as well. Different managers manage in different ways. I e had some that micromanaged and many who take a hands off approach and trust us to do our work and report up when we need to give status updates or request input/assistance. If you make an effort to look for roles in companies that share your values on those things, you might find a better fit. Or it may be that you were just never a good fit for corporate life to begin with. Yes there are roles that are inherently more stressful but that is the nature of some jobs like front office trading roles. But to generalize an entire firm or industry based on a personal experience is myopic especially when you’ve barely even started your career. You can’t work a few years and then decide you know everything there is about what a career long journey is going to be when others such as myself have over twenty years to draw on knowledge and know yes there are good parts and bad parts but it isn’t guaranteed to be the same experience for everyone when you factor in all the aforementioned variables. A career is a roller coaster of highs and lows. It’s never going to be just up up and away. I guess the one variable I forgot to mention is yourself. If you are going into a job or career expecting it to give you more than you give it because it owes you, then you are going to be disgruntled and rightfully so. Remember, you are being hired to work for someone else at the end of the day. Thankfully many companies are very good about focusing on employee satisfaction and employee values etc, things that some people would call ‘woke’ but actually help people achieve a better work life balance which the company is not legally required to do and which we should be thankful for rather than attack them over. Just my thoughts. I keep seeing these ‘I quit my wall st or corporate job’ videos by twenty somethings complaining over hours or pay or mean managers (she didn’t mention reporting that manager to HR for his sexist or racist comments btw. That’s interesting) and I feel like many of them are more for the views, subscribes, likes, and ad generating revenue than truth telling. Oh and the fact you expect to eventually be overpaid and underworked says everything one needs to know about your true morals and motive. It’s one thing to have that happen on its own, it’s another to go in expecting that as if you feel you deserve to do less work than your being paid for because your little special Vivian who wants a trophy just for showing up. EARN YOUR DAMN SALARY.
This is all 100% reasonable, and totally understandable. And it is also the underlying reason for the gender pay gap. Women tend to make decisions that prioritize everything she mentioned. While men tend to prefer working those nearly 12-hr days into their 50s for their own reasons. I'm saving this video as a nice, succinct way to demonstrate this in a very natural way. When I worked at Nomura they had a section on the trade floor called “millionaire’s row” which was the offices with windows. They all seemed pretty miserable and treated the support staff like myself HORRIBLY. Some used to take it with a smile because they would throw around Knicks tickets, Broadway show tickets, and give away the excess of gifts that came their way. I avoided that whole area like the plague. The money for them was good but they knew at any single minute and one bad trade, they would be out and their reputation would be trash. Not worth it in my opinion.

No, most men also aren't stupid enough to work those hours for no return, either.
This is all 100% reasonable, and totally understandable.
And it is also the underlying reason for the gender pay gap. Women tend to make decisions that prioritize everything she mentioned.
While men tend to prefer working those nearly 12-hr days into their 50s for their own reasons.

When I worked at Nomura they had a section on the trade floor called “millionaire’s row” which was the offices with windows. They all seemed pretty miserable and treated the support staff like myself HORRIBLY. Some used to take it with a smile because they would throw around Knicks tickets, Broadway show tickets, and give away the excess of gifts that came their way. I avoided that whole area like the plague. The money for them was good but they knew at any single minute and one bad trade, they would be out and their reputation would be trash. Not worth it in my opinion.
I’m a bank manager. Overworked and underpaid. And corporate takes advantage of all employees, especially down at the branch level

I also can see AI replacing a lot of these jobs in the future. You couldn't replace whole teams, but you could definitely shrink them with AI doing more routine work or drafting presentations with basic data inputs
