When I got my Geeknson table in 2017 it came destroyed. My guess it was because Canada customs opened the crate to inspect it, however did not put it back the way they found it. The shipping company then treated it poorly on the way from customs to my house. Geeknson however was GREAT with my issue. They replaced my table at no charge and even told me to keep all the pieces that weren’t damaged (extra/backup accessories). I would buy from them again for sure. I just hope they were able to get an insurance claim on my damaged one.
After this review, I want more table reviews. There was a lowkey tension with what your final thoughts would be that made it even more engaging. Keep up the good work Rodney.
I'm not in a place to get a gaming table but I really liked this review because you were so detailed and thorough, especially filming the underside of the table. Also, there was a bit of amusement watching this particular table get further and further out of my price range as the video went on.
My Megan table arrived last week and it's absolutely fantastic, what an upgrade to boardgame life. They're certainly not cheap but this is really the kind of purchase you only need to make once.
I got my 'Megan' table last year and I am really happy with it. It is the least customizable of the GeekNSon gaming tables but it just fits my needs and my taste (and also my purse). I live in Germany and a GeekNSon team came from a facility in Poland to deliver and set up the table in my apartment. Their next stop was then in Belgium :-O With everything you mentioned about the noise and leg-space issues of the hydraulic system it really didn't feel like a biased review.
@@wingmansion The table height is 77 cm (approx. 30.3 in), the leg space from the floor is 63 cm (approx. 24.8 in). My body height is 1.90 m (6' 2.8") and with an ordinary chair there is more than enough leg space for me. No chicken wing posture and no chicken wings while playing, please ;)
I really like your presentation style, thorough yet fast paced. You also expertly navigate shipping in a way that is informative but not a rant. Excellent!
It is an option you can specify as well. You can have the remote control lights that Rodney preferred or choose the Hue if that works best for you. I have a whole hue set up at home so went with the Hue and it works great. The hub should stay plugged in a bit like a router.
Yeah, as soon as I saw the white box, I figured this was the case. My house is already Hue enabled, so this would work well! What a fantastic looking table, though, eh?
Very very good walk through and very honest. No way you could have been more clear and transparent. Well done! I am lucky to have a father who is retired and loves to do woodworking so we made my gaming table. Hardwood is not cheap. But, after having it, I love the feel and quality of it. Appreciate your observations and transparency about how the table was provided. Especially appreciate your experiences with the shipping process. Guess I’ll be needing a forklift ready if I ever order one of these tables 😄
I can believe just how well you conducted this review - so honest, informative, clear, concise, transparent. Possibly the best review for anything I've ever seen now I think about it. Expertly done 👏👏👏
Oh my, I love the speakers underneath. That would be great for studying!! Classical or jazz while solving organic chemistry problems or solving integrals!!
Very good and informative. The parts about the leg room, table space and how it feels to sit at a table I think need to be commonplace when talking about one. I have gone through about 3 different tables through trial and error (none THAT fancy) and I wish I would have known that there are many different variables. Thanks Rodney!
It's an impressive piece of furniture. I'd love a surface that raises to be flush. I am one who doesn't like playing in a pit. I think I would prefer not to have a hydraulic system, though.
Looks like an amazing table. The old table looks a lot like the one I built for myself a few years ago. I'm planning on making a new one at some point. I'm thinking I may try a hexagon this time.
I have been thinking about a game table, and one of the issues has been the inset of most of the tables, the raising of the playing surface is great. So that is good, but I see what you mean about the leg room. I will do some thinking. We need a new dining table. So the next table we buy will be a game table, and who knows maybe this is it. Thank you so much!!
I have one of these tables. I got the 8 person table with all the features you have. The lights you have are Phillips hue I have the standard ones which are the same as your other one. The hydraulics don’t hit my legs as I adjusted my chairs rather than the table and got the height just right. The sound system is amazing. I’m in the UK and it was delivered and assembled. Top tip for new buyers who have a 3D printer. Print some leg extenders for your chairs .... dead easy just glue them on or cup over your legs. All in all I love my Henry table 😉
Thank you, Rodney, for a thorough and frank review of the table. I originally wanted a fancy table, bit after seeing the prices, and learning some of the things you mention in this video (shipping costs, items from another country, likely no fancy delivery service where I live, and weight) I decided that building my own is likely my better option. Some aspects of these tables is very nice, but some are just too superfluous for my tastes. Good points all around on your review, so I hope it helps others decide.
I really enjoyed the video Rodney! Thanks for your honesty and giving inputs about the table I would have never really thought about buying my own board game table
I'm sorry, what? Luke is 16?!?! I had no idea I'd been watching you for so long!! Feels like only a couple of years ago you were playing with both your kids in the videos regularly.
as always, you consistently provide very detailed and thorough content. the gaming tables are definitely that extra bling factor for the gaming experience. that being said, the only things I would want (if I ever get a chance to getting one) are the leaves and the ability to manually raise/lower the playing surface at ease
The led light bridge looks like a Philips Hue Bridge v2. If so, it will serve for all your Hue lights, and the default setting for on or off after power interrupt is configurable. Should also work with Siri, Alexa, and Google. (Though personally I prefer the LIFX leds for my gaming table since the leds and mix and match color on the same strip at the same time instead of only having a single color at a time option as the Hue currently does. Also no bridge required, they are WiFi)
Might be something you are already aware of, but gaffer's tape is the best solution for taping cords, cables, and wires. It doesn't reflect light and won't leave a sticky residue when you remove it. It feels more towards a fabric tape than plastic.
Great video! Loved the table review! Enjoy that ability to bend, crawl, and kneel without accompanying joint popping and cracking.... lol! Seriously though, this was a refreshingly honest review of table features. Thanks!
I built my own table, but I like looking at these videos because they always give me ideas for improvements. My complaint with my current table is it is hard to reach across the table when I solo game, so I use my longest spatula to move hard to reach pieces. Someday, I will get a craps table stick (I don’t know the technical name) to fix that problem.
The lights are Philips hue smart lights and the white Box is the Bridge. I use them anyway for all the lights in my Apartment, so for me it’s a big plus that the table comes with hue lights but I think that if you‘re Not already into the hue system it’s overkill and I agree with you about the simple version. By the way, in the app you can change the setting for the lights how they should behave in case of a power outage. Just set them to stay Off : ) I don’t like having Electronics in my table, they are going to be obsolete a lot sooner than the table will be. And that hydraulics are just Overkill, not my Cup of tea. Great video: )
Great coverage Rodney! Always appreciate your honest take and that makes me confident in what’s showcased on your channel. The table looks great, and it’s good to know about, flaws and all, for if and when we make a luxury addition:)
i'm guessing using a separate hub for the lights is so you can setup scenes in a smart home system. I would actually prefer that. that said, having the other options would also be nice. Not everybody has a smart home system and wants to have something plugged in in their router.
Thanks for the video, I was skeptical at first but I really enjoyed it. I'm in the same opinion as yourself, I prefer the higher platform and as I'm almost as tall as you leg room is important. I have 2 kids and I could never get a proper table, so I have to use a mat with a think curtain on top which makes for an excellent gaming surface. I like the lighting and the speaker functions but this is not something I would really need as I have spot lights on the ceiling above the table. The speaker function is pretty nice but I just use a sound bar which is just as effective. If money was no object I would still probably not invest on one of these, I think I prefer the streamlinedness of the Megan or your original table. Also it's nice to know you had issues with importing, I live in Sweden and ordering anything from overseas, especially America comes with added fees and charges.
There are a few on my list for gaming table, just a matter of doing the research building a requirements grids to determine the best one.. •Orenda (unfortunately they don't call back) •GeeknSon •Rathskellers
Great in-depth, practical review. I definitely think a handcrank option would've been the better choice compared to the noisy hydraulics, especially because I feel most people will find a height they like and stick with it. Not sure why they opted for such a convoluted control mechanic for operating the lights, either...though those two hiccups aside, it's a great looking and rather versatile gaming table.
I love a lot of the features of the new table, but the higher frame would not work for me so I'd choose the other model too. I do love looks, but I also prefer it to be functional over that.
Thanks for walking through this Rodney! I still haven't found the perfect kitchen/gaming table and this won't be the one as we need an oval table. Your class and transparency in the video is fantastic and certainly models the well thought out Watch it Played videos. As I watched I was like, "How come no one else has this much class" and then I realized you're in Canada and then it made sense. I also appreciate you working with that other guy (can't remember his name) but y'all are a good pair. Just kidding Chaz...I know your name!
Fantastic job with this video. Concise and informative all while still keeping in the humour. I appreciate the views and honest opinions in the video. Hopefully GeekNSon are taking notes from your suggestions as well (nice to know they will no longer be dealing with that delivery service again). I imagine if you ever end up selling your house, you'll have to disclose that they will have to buy the table as well because I doubt anyone is going to move it back upstairs :P
Easy fix for the hydraulic table riser… Upholster additional felt on the underside of the removable top boards. All you have to do is flip them. Yes there will be seems in the felt between the boards, but I’d rather that than the leg room and noise issues that Rod points out in the video. And if you want a “half way” option, groove out an additional ledge half way down the side.
@@WatchItPlayed that’s good. I have the aspiration to build my own and in addition to deleting the inside, i would felt the underside of the top boards so if I want surface level play, I’ll simply flip the boards back over.
I have a minimalistic drop leaf table, both sides, of center support on rollers. Swing arms fold out to support the drop leafs, and the center support holds four folding chairs. I like the Henry, but would get it without the hydraulics, and I agree, the depth (bulk) of the table is too much.
This is so cool. The only reason I’ve never gotten a gaming table is because I didn’t have the room. The fact this is also a dining table is brilliant.
Oh how I love the idea of this tables, if they sold them here in Uruguay I'd definitely buy one. As it is the import fees would be huge and more expensive than the table itself, and I haven't found any similar tables here. Hoping to find one someday!
awesome review, I hope one day the canadian compagny made all of those extra option like the rising mecanism and usb station. I know they made some trays and dryer. :) thank you for your video
Would love a proper Gaming table but the cost and their generally large size make them impractical for me. I spent some time in the summer converting our kitchen table into a gaming table that I'm quite proud of. Would love to add cup holders, etc like this table but yet to work out how in a sensible way.
When playing with the 'half a table' example you showed around the 3 minute mark, how easily do the remaining leaves slide around? With that open space is it possible, using your example, for someone eating on the hard wood to accidentally slide them apart and lose a drink in the new opening over the felt below?
You mentioned in the review of the "Denis" table that the vault is about 3 inches deep? How deep is the vault on this one? If it is about 4 inches or greater I think the "Henry" is more meant for RPG gamers. The built-in GM area, the more sophisticated lights, the hydraulics, and the phone charging all make this ideal for RPGs.
Omg, I wanted to back their latest project on Kickstarter. I honestly do not have the money for this kind of thing, though. 😅 But it's really interesting to see this "in action". The Henry would have been my table of choice. I agree that needing a bridge for lights and stuff isn't as comfortable (to me) as a remote control. But then, so many devices are created to connect with bridges only these days. 😕 It would have been interesting to know if you can connect the table to a bridge that you already have. A follow-up question would then be if the table will react to voice commands. But I guess they would have mentioned that. Well, it's possible that they're developing their app and software to upgrade to this later.
Sounds like the bridge is just a Philips Hue device, so you could definitely use voice commands if you have Alexa or Google Home. Would be cool to set up a trigger so when I say, "I hate to lose!" it would turn the lights red.
I have long had a question about board game tables. If we use a couple of panels to cover the play area and then use it as a dinner table or whatever other purposes, what if we spill? Would not liquid leak through the panel gap?
How would you like to see the game table innovated; meaning, what features could be improved (either by stripping them away or adding them to the table)?
Maybe a charging port (and lights) that are run off an easy to remove and recharge battery. I prefer not to have an electrical cord running away from the table, and into the wall.
I am gathering information and ideas to build my own gaming table. I am a woodworker, so I can overcome challenges. So I am curious, what features or accessories do you feel are critical to a gaming table, and what do you feel are overrated? Also, do you have minimum dimensions for the play surface that you would recommend staying larger than? As always, thanks in advance!
I'm not sure if I'm the best person to ask, as my desires are pretty simple, Mostly I want a comfortable surface to play on. I think having a sunken area, so you can cover up a game while you use the top surface is now - and accessories for holding glasses and cards (and maybe components).
@@WatchItPlayed I'll take those suggestions for sure! If you think of any others let me know. It's tough to think of everything BEFORE you finish a project! Lol
Great review. Thank you. I ordered A Denis as a result :) How much use do you get out of the lights on your table and are they of any practical use - or just a bit of a gimmick. I left them off my order but I’m beginning to have second thoughts
I don't personally get a lot of use out of them, so I think if you were feeling they wouldn't be necessary for your enjoyment, you likely made the right decision!
@@WatchItPlayed ok. Thanks. I'll keep my order as it is. As the rules reader in my group, I'm watching your videos more and more to help confirm my understanding. Great work
Mine doesn't, and I've had 3 different sets of legs over the course of 2 tables, and I can say that all of them have been secure (the extra set was me experimenting with different table heights for the studio). Have you reached out to them about this? I'll be interested to hear what kind of support you get.
@@WatchItPlayed I've had the game a while so I didn't think they would do much more but couldn't hurt to enquire. Especially the idea of maybe getting longer legs to raise the table height. 👍
@@TheBrokenMeeple Well, the higher legs was specific to my work I was doing for the video promotion, but certainly the wobbly legs could be something to check about.
Just to ask, what the red mat that's on your Denny table supplied with it when you got in in 2017? In your video for the Denny table, you had a blue mat on it, but in this video, it has a red mat? If so, do they also offer mat options that you can get for the tables, too? I thought I ask this, since after watching the Denny table review, the mat was a different color? Also, do you still have that blue mat from the Denny table review, and if not, what happened to it since that Denny table review? Did it get worned-out, hence why the red mat is there now on the Denny table? Finally, even thought about being a salesman for GeekNSon? They would definitely make more money if you were in their videos showing the features of their tables, since you do a great job explaining the features of their tables and your thoughts on them. (Hence, it could be a good idea for the future: A table salesman.) Plus, it's nice to see where you keep your spare games that don't fit on your main self, since we don't see the room that the Henry table is on that often, as per the problems you stated for the room (noise problems, etc.)
Hey Daniel, I hope I can explain this clearly - it would be easier to show than to type :) I'll do my best! The red isn't a mat, it's a fabric wrapped around a board that then sits at the higher level (the way the leaves would). That's a custom thing I use for the sake of recording video. The blue fabric board is still there as well though, that's just the layer that covers the bottom vault section underneath. We haven't done a game play video in a while, but when we used to, we'd do it down in the vault area, and you'd see the blue fabric in that case. That way we could be recording a game play, and then leave it set up, while I covered it with the red covered board to record a tutorial on top. Hope that makes sense!
@@WatchItPlayed To understand what you're saying, the way it's laid out is, from top to bottom: red mat/part, small opening, then blue mat/part. Is that correct? If not, that what would be the correct way to explain it? Plus, you are right that pictures would popular explain this better than text, so if you want to post a reply saying "here's a picture of what I'm trying to explain on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.," that might help better. Sorry if I'm getting confused about if I am misunderstand you, but I think what I said might be correct, considering I had to picture what you said in my mind for a second to know what you might be explaining to me.
Would love a table like these. But no way that I can afford such a thing. When that LottoMax comes in, maybe. But until then. It’s a fold out card table :(
Although I've bought a table yet myself (hope to eventually), I've looked for Canadian makers to avoid overseas shipping issues. As I haven't tried them, I can't personally recommend but I mention the 2 I know of in a reply above: McFadden Tables (Kingston, Ontario) & Wheatland Woodwork (Calgary, Alberta). More information in that reply & links to their websites.
I’ll get you the info tomorrow hopefully. But I am dealing with the exact same shipping issues. Was sent final paperwork by geeknson before even hearing a word from logistics. I could not believe it when they told me the driver is not going to be removing the tables from the truck. I ordered two tables. I have a delivery window of 9-5 tomorrow. I’m curious if I will be getting Phillips hue hubs. Doubting they threw those in.
@@WatchItPlayed thanks for the reply. It was more of a vote in thinking if you see a lot of requests for a certain game you might be more likely to take a look at it.
I've always done product reviews (gaming accessories, etc). I just don't review games. I find it easier to say if an accessory does what it is supposed to do - but I've always felt uncomfortable trying to measure "fun" for someone else.

Someday, I will get a craps table stick (I don’t know the technical name) to fix that problem.
thank you for a great episode. many interesting solutions, of course with the option to use them or not.
Just set them to stay Off : )
I don’t like having Electronics in my table, they are going to be obsolete a lot sooner than the table will be. And that hydraulics are just Overkill, not my Cup of tea.
Great video: )
Another outstanding review, Rodney! Thank you very much for your continued professional, trustworthy and enjoyable tutorials and opinions.
Thank you kindly!
Great coverage Rodney! Always appreciate your honest take and that makes me confident in what’s showcased on your channel. The table looks great, and it’s good to know about, flaws and all, for if and when we make a luxury addition:)
Very kind of you to say TJ - glad it was helpful!
i'm guessing using a separate hub for the lights is so you can setup scenes in a smart home system. I would actually prefer that. that said, having the other options would also be nice. Not everybody has a smart home system and wants to have something plugged in in their router.
I respect you so much for this impartial review.
Thanks for checking it out!
Fantastic review! I especially appreciate your transparency. Thanks for making this video!
Thanks Matt - glad you enjoyed!
Glad you enjoyed!
There are a few on my list for gaming table, just a matter of doing the research building a requirements grids to determine the best one..
•Orenda (unfortunately they don't call back)
•GeeknSon
•Rathskellers
Great in-depth, practical review.
I definitely think a handcrank option would've been the better choice compared to the noisy hydraulics, especially because I feel most people will find a height they like and stick with it.
Not sure why they opted for such a convoluted control mechanic for operating the lights, either...though those two hiccups aside, it's a great looking and rather versatile gaming table.
I think it was more of an experiment, and not one that they will sick with, if I had to guess.
Glad you were just joking - the therapy sessions for Chaz would have been pricey!
Thanks for the kind words - glad you enjoyed (and you're not wrong!)
Hoo, boy. I see Witness on your shelf. I wish I could get a hold of that one.
Easy fix for the hydraulic table riser…
Upholster additional felt on the underside of the removable top boards. All you have to do is flip them. Yes there will be seems in the felt between the boards, but I’d rather that than the leg room and noise issues that Rod points out in the video.
And if you want a “half way” option, groove out an additional ledge half way down the side.
I'm not sure if they are using this hydraulic feature on future tables anymore.
I did buy a custom sized table 1.8 X 0.9 m. The size is just perfect ^^.
Glad you like it!
awesome review, I hope one day the canadian compagny made all of those extra option like the rising mecanism and usb station. I know they made some trays and dryer. :) thank you for your video
Glad you enjoyed!
Great Review! with all the information one needs to consider before buying such a table.
Combat Commander and Cuba Libre are such amazing games.
Agreed!
Boy that table premium. I want one!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you Rodney~~!!! I'm looking at the Megan.
Those look like really nice tables!
alternate title: man makes first contact with Philips Hue
Would love a proper Gaming table but the cost and their generally large size make them impractical for me.
I spent some time in the summer converting our kitchen table into a gaming table that I'm quite proud of. Would love to add cup holders, etc like this table but yet to work out how in a sensible way.
When playing with the 'half a table' example you showed around the 3 minute mark, how easily do the remaining leaves slide around? With that open space is it possible, using your example, for someone eating on the hard wood to accidentally slide them apart and lose a drink in the new opening over the felt below?
Because of the weight of the leaves, it wouldn't be easy for them to slide around, unless someone was eating like a viking, maybe?
@@WatchItPlayed If I want to wear a horned helm while I eat chicken, that's my choice! :P
I haven't measured, so I'm not sure!
Is the "separate light plugin thing" a philips hue? if so that's kind of cool for those of us who already have smartlight setups
Definitely a hue hub 2.0 ~ the point about the lights just switching on also lines up with hue behaviour (although you can change that in the app)
I was thinking how awesome something like that would be.
I hope Rodney expands his operations with this, he is a damn good salesman. Next week will be a matching washer and dryer!
And socks!
Rodney’s new channel.... Watch It Tumble
Not too far-fetched, he did cause me to go out and buy soap nuts.
Fantastic breakdown..thank you so much!
Very glad you found it helpful!
Quality video! Thank you for being you!
Glad you enjoyed James!
I have long had a question about board game tables. If we use a couple of panels to cover the play area and then use it as a dinner table or whatever other purposes, what if we spill? Would not liquid leak through the panel gap?
If you have an actual gap between the panels, yes, it would spill down in that case.
How would you like to see the game table innovated; meaning, what features could be improved (either by stripping them away or adding them to the table)?
Maybe a charging port (and lights) that are run off an easy to remove and recharge battery. I prefer not to have an electrical cord running away from the table, and into the wall.
Still hoping the next update from Geek and Son says it is now Denmark they deliver my Dennis table to :)
When i buy a solid wood table the last things i want are electrical extras that need cables or a smart phone connection.
Great video, Rodney!
Nice Mignola collection up on the shelves. :)
I'm so behind in my reading!
You know Rodney, you're a pretty cool dude, man.
Thank you kindly :)
Btw that's just a Philips Hue light strip. Could easily get a cheaper light option.
wow refreshingly super honst review! Thanks!
You're very welcome!
Awesome video, very informative!
Thank you kindly!
Great work
At 4:48 you remove the fabric insert and say it's mounted to a board. Do you know what kind of board they used? Also what type of fabric is that?
Hey Chad, I'm not sure on the materials they use actually. Might be on their website?
Love that you’re doing a kind of review. Do they let you keep the new table?
Hey James, I talk about this in the video.
@@WatchItPlayed ah, I missed that
Nice. Wish, there would be something like this in Russia someday🙊
Great video as always! Are you looking to get rid of the Henry? I’m just on the other side of the bridge. 😄
Ha! I did find someone on this side of the bridge :)
Wish I could afford it. They're just too expensive especially to ship to Canada.
Time to drop $100 on 6/49. Then be $100 further away from buying a game table.
@@g8kpr3000 hahaha. Keep buying 100 worth every month 🤣
Does yours have wonky legs like mine does though. Everything is screwed in, all good, but legs still on the wonky side for such an expensive table.
(Hence, it could be a good idea for the future: A table salesman.)
Plus, it's nice to see where you keep your spare games that don't fit on your main self, since we don't see the room that the Henry table is on that often, as per the problems you stated for the room (noise problems, etc.)
@@danielschaublin You have it right.
Overkill! But Awesome!!! I've wanted a gaming table for the last 5 years. Still can't afford one... Some day.
Would love a table like these. But no way that I can afford such a thing. When that LottoMax comes in, maybe. But until then. It’s a fold out card table :(
And that works just fine too!
Now I'm really curious about where you live in Canada. I'm gonna guess East Coast?
Correct!
Am I the only one that paused the video to see the collection of games behind him? Lots of comics too.
Is there a table maker in Canada you would recommend? Asking for a fellow Canadian... me... I'm asking for me
Ha! I haven't tried any yet, so not sure - let me know if you find one you like!

Hi! They are using the same shipping broker!!! I am dealing with the same in excusable issues.
Where do you live? What is the name of the broker (I don't remember the name I had, but if I hear it, it might ring a bell).

Glad you appreciate those efforts.
wow... ok, Rodney is making reviews now.
I've always done product reviews (gaming accessories, etc). I just don't review games. I find it easier to say if an accessory does what it is supposed to do - but I've always felt uncomfortable trying to measure "fun" for someone else.
Oof .. That feeling when you find out that it costs as much as a small family car.
