I caved and backed this table since I’ve been waiting for a review I asked for from you like a year ago. Grateful to know it may have been a great purchase. I’m disappointed they haven’t been able to meet their April deadline, but still excited and having a hard time suppressing my anticipation.
I'm hoping we can (carefully) pop out the fabric surface and use the wood under it as a second play area, for flat games like jigsaw puzzles. If that works well, perhaps I'll even DIY an additional surface to fit where the table-top leaves go. (Inspired by your multiple surfaces in "How A Board Game Table Will Help You Game More.") As a backer, I'm so glad the Monarch looks like a solid choice! It looks to be much higher quality than the slightly cheaper Jasper, and much more affordable than a comparable Wyrmwood, even considering shipping to USA. Thanks for your review, Alex!
The flick problem will probably decrease over time. I had the same problem with another table and after I accidentally spilled some water over it and after drying... the problem was gone in that area. Don't spill water over it, though, a damp cloth will do the job. I guess it has something to do with electrostaticness or fiber orientation of the fabric. But of course it could also be a problem with materials like polyester.
@@BoardGameCo please keep these little gems in your videos. Same for the scratches you caused by moving the table. It shows you as a human who makes mistakes and add an amazing amount of realism to the content
The "Flick Test" only way to prove if a gaming table is worthy hehe....jokes aside now I am going to have to test my table out and see how well it flows over the fabric resistance.
Quick shout out that Dragons and Geeks are a British based company so reduces shipping costs for us on the other side of the pond. If you're laying down a thousand pounds/dollars for a table anyway you probably have the cash anyway but every little helps!
Do you have any experience with other affordable tables like the Jasper or the new Meeples Champion from Game Theory Tables? In the market for an affordable table and hard to decide between the few budget friendly options.
Owner of a Wyrmwood medium (standard width) here. The Monarch with comparable vault dimensions is the large (wide width). Both start at $1200 USD with topper (rustic elm option from Wyrmwood). The size is ideal for everything but the largest table hogs. We recently played a 6-player game of Sidereal Confluence and everyone was comfortable. The Wyrmwood uses a single piece of very thick felt that tucks under the sides of the table. It's removable but doesn't slide around or bunch up, and there are no gaps to swallow tiny chits or other bits. The Monarch's felt, on the other hand, looks like a couch cushion, so expect to go fishing for small parts from time to time. The interior magnetic rail is also nice and allows for further customization. We use it for player desks and 3D-printed poker chip holders. Wyrmwood also offers counter-height legs in addition to dining height - depending on your space, a dining height table may look silly, so you'll have a bit more flexibility with the Wyrmwood. And for my money, the finish on the Wyrmwood is stunning. Every other gaming table looks like cheap plastic in comparison. If you're going to drop $1200 on a table, go with Wyrmwood.
This is great content. Among our game group we have enough games to last a lifetime, so improving the experience while we are playing - how we can accessorize - is very interesting
This table looks awesome for board games, however it looks like it doesn't work so well for use as a dining room table.. The table surface looks like it sits pretty high, can you confirm?
I really want a board game table , and I've seen so many in the channel But I can't bring myself to buy one, since I can't get a group of people to play to have an excuse to get it ! :(
As a note, they're actually currently working on a mug holder!
Sorry I literally just got my game theory table set up
we need an "over here" counter
Lol yep

Thanks for your review, Alex!
Absolutely! And the fabric comes up nice and easy.
@BoardgameCo. Alex, did you every give your updated opinion on this table? if so, where? if not, why? ;)

Royals is a game that deserves more spotlight as a great chill, have tea, and hangout with a friend game. Love that you have it in your collection
Finally an affordable board game table. Thank Alex for the suggestion. Cheers.😁
Great job at the disappearing/reappearing card!! I would love to see 1 magic trick at the end of each video!
Lol I'd run out too quickly :)
not gonna lie, the disappearing and reappearing card was cool indeed
Lol glad you enjoyed that
Great Video, I got excited when I saw you using the same tripod I use on the table
Wine glass holders around the outside work great until you shift in your chair and knock the stem out from underneath one.
Yedo! A fine choice! I would love to see you & Quackalope friends play that!
I do need to play it.
The flick test was the best part.
"Well now its flicking"
Lol it was definitely not my finest moment :)

THANK YOU for showing me your lovely setup in the room lol. Really helpful ;)
Happy to help :)
Living vicariously trough you while I still wait for my Archie to be delivered
Lol fair enough
You can use a wood varnish with the same color as the table for these scratches
Backed this on Kickstarter, very much looking forward to receiving it. What size do you have?
Gotta have a good coffee cup mug holder !!
It's coming apparently!

With the shipping and the taxes, the final price gets closer to 2000
Ouch, sorry

Absolutely fair!
Sorry, I was distracted by the Great Rat Wars prototype. Any content planned for that?

I've used the Wyrmwood modular gaming table but that's likely the closest.
@@BoardGameCo How does the Monarch table compare to the Wyrmwood modular gaming table?

where can i find this table, looks like it no longer available.
12:00 I love you, man. ❤✨💖💜
hey mate how well did the leaf system hold up? did they expand or has the gap been annoying?
Just ordered a table from this company last week thanks to your insight. How has the leaf system held up?
So far great!
Can you confirm the 3”? Do you value the cutouts and recesses from your filming tables elbow rests? Thanks for your insights!
I am curious why you prefer inset vs. overlay leaves. I've been going back and forth on this for quite some time.
The height aspect is a big factor, it maintains the same height no matter how you use the table.
This is great content. Among our game group we have enough games to last a lifetime, so improving the experience while we are playing - how we can accessorize - is very interesting
Since its been 8 months, can you now review it over time?
Nice slight of hand
Lol thanks
This table looks awesome for board games, however it looks like it doesn't work so well for use as a dining room table.. The table surface looks like it sits pretty high, can you confirm?
Haven't measured it but it completely feels like regular height.
Too bad you did not received the table sooner, it's +100£ for the late pledge now :(
Sorry!
Hi Alex, any chance you can measure the table please? I am interested to see what size this is in comparison to the pledge manager. Thanks
Looks small, so probably the Medium. Tell me what you play that covers the most surface area and I might be able to suggest a size for you.
This one has 5 leaves so it's the medium. The large tables have 6 leaves.
I really want a board game table , and I've seen so many in the channel

I feel you brotha....
But how long have you had the table for? 😅
Ty for this video!
Do they deliver from inside EU also or only US market?
It's a UK based company, hence you pledge in £s, ships from centres in US,UK and EU
Thank u for the video
Where can you buy one now?
I think you have to wait for the Kickstarter to deliver.
I think you need a bigger game room lol
This is my game room, filming room and general office space. Oh and board game storage :)
@@BoardGameCo so... You need a bigger house then 🤣
Noice
:)
