FIRST Time RUNNING The HIGHSPEED OPTIONAL Gearing in My Traxxas Slash XL-5 2wd - NiMH + 2S Lipo TEST

  • In this video I run the “Cheapest Traxxas Slash” project build using the optional gearing that came with the rtr kit. This gearing claims speeds of 30+ mph. It does specify that this gearing is only recommended for use on pavement....but I wanted to see what happens if I try bashing the Slash xl5 2wd with the Optional HighSpeed Gearing installed?...Will it hold up? We will see!!

    It sucks I can’t get my high speed gearing in without it being wayyyy too tight. Maybe I’ll try again idk why I can’t get it to loosen up I’ve used the wiggle technique and all that yet everytime I try to install one it’s too tight. Been the same issue on my slash, bandit and rustler

    • @RCKnockout
      @RCKnockout  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stock 2wd transmissions have a plastic piece pushed from behind the motor mount that prevents the motor from being slid…basically it keeps the gear mesh right for the stock gearing…if you are changing from the stock gearing make sure to remove the plastic piece between the motor and motor plate otherwise you can’t run a larger pinion

  • @PeterPiccolo
    @PeterPiccolo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    the speed is tied to something called the gear ratio... and you can adjust the top speed and acceleration characteristics by changing the spur and pinion gears the battery just delivers the power more rapidly and lipos provide constant power until they are dead where nimh slowly die and performance dies along with it... hope you figured this out by now!!! dont some of the slash rtr trucks come with a high speed gearing option that clearly states that changing it is for high speed and lipo use only? i think so!!! read the manual bro bro..... nice roosting urself tho i do that all the time... i got some rpm mudflaps kit and that solved the problem and combined with the race rear and the bucket led light kit it really adds some scale realism and can hook into the brake so it gets brighter when u brake which always adds a dope scale feel...\
    but yea change ur gearing and run a lipo u can get some higher speeds with a 23t pinion and 86t spur gear and ull be ripping alot faster there

    • @rc123channel7
      @rc123channel7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He knows that but a higher gear ratio will strain the motor and it might sap power

      @@RCKnockout No but theres a weird chunk of the resin on top of the armature i just seen that yesterday at the hobby store in someones motor. I think thats from going above 2s with a 3800kv motor and running it in water. The bearing gets super hot and then wham! You throw water on the motor all of a sudden and your basically throwing water in the frying pan. My theory is people overpowering motors in bad conditions as far as thermo tolerances. So if you run a castle 3800 kv with a mamba x Capable of running 3s i woulf recomend 2s at 50c for the perfect balance and only use mineral oil on high grade bearings in the motor and check and take apart after every run even if its only a spash of water.
      Im thinking of making the 3 can screws on the motor where i can hand turn by using a fat grip head machine screw for easy access and wire all 3 together so they dont back out the way they do screws on avaition equipment. In aviation all the screws get wire twisted together to stop screws from backing out from vibration.

    • @RCKnockout
      @RCKnockout  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jasonmorgan661 I very rarely take apart my brushless motors even after running them in water. I usually just spray the bearings down with some wd40 and let things dry. I imagine mud and water isn’t very good for any motor though lol 😂. Hopefully all of those things work for you! 👍😉

    • @jasonmorgan661
      @jasonmorgan661 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RCKnockout wd40 is a solvent. It basically disolves the oil and greese. Use high grade meneral oil. I learned thats whats used in submerged super computers and high speed bearings in motors because regular oil is conductive and very dirty. Ill give you the best example. ALL HIGH END MOTORS use only mineral oil in industrial standards. My rc shop guy didnt even know that.

    LIPO's lose their power as soon as you start running them (the voltage drops). Maybe not as quickly as a NiMH but the voltage drops as does the performance as you run it.
