- This is a good how too video on installing a compressor wheel in the Stock Turbo on a LBZ 2007 2500HD Silverado Duramax. This was a good upgrade for throttle response. Thanks for watching a subscribe.
Look at this on eBay:
www.ebay.com/ul...
06-07 6.6L LBZ Duramax Peformance Turbo Billet Wheel (2139)
I have an lb7. This was the kind of video I needed to see. Thanks a lot. Thankyou for your service as well.
+djc787 awesome! It's a good upgrade thanks for watching
Man! All this work for a wheel. I think I’m spending the cash for new turbo with all this work that goes with it. 😂 appreciate you’re videos my man!
In order to change the way your exhaust sounds you have to change the turbine wheel on the exhaust side. Changing the compressor wheel side won't change the sound of the exhaust. You will only get a little more whistle through the intake when changing the compressor wheel only.
How would I do this? I have a 08 lmm
I'd heard you can cause micro fractures in the shaft from using an impact on the wheel
That's why I like to take my time and take out the whole turbo assembly and use 2 wrenches to avoid stress fractures
I think its unbelieveable the videos of people changing the COMPRESSOR wheel and how they think it is going to change the whistle out the tail pipe!! If it changes the whistle its going to be through your intake and what you hear in the cab!! The exhaust turbine is what makes the whistle out the tail pipe!
+James Nelson i completely disagree with your comment it is proven depending on what type of wheel you install that it will change the pitch
I actually noticed a difference after installing the wicked wheel 2. The whistle was enhanced no doubt! Especially after installing the down pipe by magna flow! Picks up real fast and sounds like the truck can actually breath so much more better!
James Nelson You sir are 100% correct!!
Seems like it would have been easier to pull turbo.
With everything you had to pull off and move I think just pulling the turbo would have been easier... hah at least for me it was. I know you were testing the idea though. Anyway thanks for your videos bro, they have been very helpful in upgrades I have put on my truck. Keep up the good work, Thanks again.
Your right about just pulling the turbo instead. Thanks for the comment
You have excellent videos that have helped me a ton. Thanks for taking the time to make these
+brian m I'm very glad to hear that! Thanks for the comment and if you have any questions feel free to message me
Thanks man will do!
I hope the paint doesn't flake off over time inside of the compressor housing...that could be bad. But very good video on the install of it!
Thank you sir
Well thanks Truck Master
I ended up using my father in laws compressor and used a air impact wrench and it come of just like yours did in the video!
Thanks
+Roland Salinas awesome I'm glad it worked out for you
@@TruckMaster I know its been a long time that you did this but is it worth it and is the WW2 better?
On the LB7 ONLY All you need to do is remove the intake and turbo intake horn don’t need to split the turbo case at all
Wanting to put a batmowheel in my LB7. Would i be able to do this without taking the compressor housing off? Seems like you could fit out
Not gonna lie, I liked how it sounded stock more man. If that’s what your going for.
Need that 10 blade rear
Looks good but it's a really bad idea to use an impact. The shaft is very hard and isn't designed to take any kind of impact load.
i like your video's, looking to get a newer truck, currently have a older 6.5td and looking at duramax's. but... every video seems to tell me to get a cummins. but they come in dodges and dodges ride like tanks. so thanks for showing me what i'm getting myself into.
If you get a Duramax, you'll appreciate that 6.5 alot more. Oil changes cost more as well as other maintenance. Still love my LB7 but my 6.2 has never treated me wrong
Did the billet wheel add any hiss? I am not a fan of the hiss. Just curious , thanks
Your videos are amazing, you explain every step by step in a very patient way. I started cleaning my vehicle and found that some of the hoes connected to the inter cooler have a bit of oil. What do you recommend to clean or wash the inter cooler? is there a special liquid? the pickup I have is a GMC Sierra 6.6 Motor, 3500 diesel. I would like to know your opinion, the replacement parts are rather expensive, whats your opinion on the parts sold on amazon? or is there another less expensive place to acquire them?
So im trying to do this, my turbo is still on the engine in the truck. I have the wheel exposed And a straight line of sight to the wheel, but cant not get the wheel to come off. And yes im doing reverse thread. Any suggestions?
Did you ever get it figured out? I'm looking into doing this to my lb7.
I have 01 duramax and a 13 durama I'm having hard time finding easy stuff to on it I've have the 13 since it was new still stock got a k&n intake that's it my 01 is has badass power now and was simple only if the newer one was like that
I agree, some easy stuff you can do that doesn't cost a lot of money, I would try the PPE Boost valve, race fuel valve, ported valve and PCV reroute. On the 13 go with a Egr blocking plate. All this stuff would be cheap and easy to do
+Truck Master well my 01 has a ton of stuff on it and it's reliable on the 13 I'm kinda wanted to change the exhaust but I wanna leave the def thing alone people have told be doing a def delete kit can cause transmission problems I just want this truck to sound good my 01 is strait piped sounds good but when pulling a trailer on the interstate and it down shifts you talk to people in the truck with you just looking for something not as loud on my daily driver the 01 is just a regular cab flat bed so I don't really care if it's loud
VERY NICE VIDEO clear and loud
Thanks man
Wanted to know for my fuel system what is the best way to go. Including fuel filter. Can you let me know.
Mddp Performance sells cat oil adapters they are the best in my opinion
Go fass or air dog use their filters on the pump and use a stock filter on the original fuel primer! The cat filters are junk
hey when you installed the egr delete does it throw codes and go into limp mode? i have a kit i want to install but don't want it to go into limp mode do i have to get a tuner to turn off egr?
+rod h Yes you need a tuner like efi live to delete the code also there should be no reason why your trans will go into limp mode if you install a Egr delete kit good luck man
Truck Master , what ive heard is it will de-rate the engine power if theres an egr code?, i can live with a check engine light on for now till i get efi live but i dont want it to not run right
rod h when you get rid of that engine light with a efi tune it's fooling the truck into thinking there is nothing wrong with the egr so I'm sure you will be fine, it's definitely your preference a lot of guys drive with that engine light on but it's your call
rod h my dad's lly we did the egr delete, we just left the egr valve plugged in and zipped tied it to the wiring surrounding the position it was located, no codes and is wicked fast with our bullydog 90hp
How about a random project? I have a great 07 Duramax 2500 HD beast, I no nothing about anything however I do know it needs some attention! Long story but possibly a warm one.
Are you running straight pipe exhaust
I can't get my compressor wheel off any ideas?
Reverse thread
How's it sound? I tried watching newer videos to see but you don't have much driving ones
you should do a y bridge swap next like the videos and the details.
+zack call those are not cheap but I do plan on it in the future maybe next summer
I got my new ficm from Pensacola diesel. Not a bad company
I have a 04 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Duramax SLT. I'm considering an upgrade. I'm curious what kind of results you got
Where did you find the uppipe orings for $2??? Have a part#? I paid $50 each!
Have you thought about installing a Fass Fuel System?
+roland salinas yes definitely I'm doing a lift pump in about 3 months
Hello where can I buy rebuild kit for a lml turbo? If there any different in kits? What the best? Tanks
Do you have a part # for the intake tube O rings ?? What auto parts store?
Will a bigger intake make the turbo a little louder
What kind of lift is your truck on
Should have pulled the turbo and rebuilt it while you were in their, Also what about balancing of the turbo and new wheel?
From my research you don't have to balance it. Also I never had a problem with the turbo after the install
Hey man question could you make a Y bridge upgrade video?
+Jose Correa I really want to but it won't be till next year
Thought about this route otherwise I'm goin to upgrade to a 67mm turbo in my 03 classic
Not saying anything was done wrong cuz I'm learning by watching just wonder if it would be easier to pull the turbo? Iv got an 18 l5p and idk how I'd ever get all the stuff out of the way if anyone has Info please lmk I see they make a batmowheel now so I'm interested in putting one in thanks
Super clean truck!
Thanks
Need your help I was putting an get delete and the pipe that goes in the bridge came off can't find the seals for it ... where did you find them .. thanks
Estevan Munoz go to your local hardware store bring the pipe with you and find a o ring that fits your pipe. Make sure the seal isn't to thick or it won't seat properly. Buy extra sizes just in case. I found myself mine at a auto parts store as well but the hardware store has more sizes good luck man
Truck Master thanks brother will do love your truck as well
hey bud, 2010 lmm w 202k on it here. been debating doing a wheel on her, just for the simple fact that she'll build quicker. was wondering about the update video? wanna know what you saw as far as mpg increases, if your egt in fact did go down, etc. Glad I found your videos, subscribed!
Hey man please respond to this. That elbow for the y bridge if you put it back in after taking it out does it actually hold? I shoved mine in and it’s loose and I have a boost leak. Don’t think I put it in properly.
If you go back on his channel shortly after he posted this he made a video of a new y bridge and cross over pipe bc the delete kit broke the factory y bridge. The factory egr is the only structure for that elbow
What size lift ? And what kind
Awesome
im not a diesel person but you sure know how to make a tutorial
+green t thanks man
Can you teach us how to get a legit wifemax? Thanks in advance.
what do you have for a lift in your truck? and how big are the tires?
6 inch lift 35" tire's
does changing the wheel trip any codes? My shop told me it will. thanks
+Michael T not at all I had no codes
aren't ypu worried about getting crap in between the bridge surfaces when it mounts
+boost lord not at all I was able to get all the stuff I dropped with a magnet
Do you see any advantage to putting a aftermarket y bridge in?
The advantage is you don't have a o-ring which means no boost leaks also more air flow.
Hey I see that you removed the oil feed tube to the turbo did it start leaking after you put it back mine is leaking like crazy and can't seem to fix it
I already put a new copper washer from the dealer I torqued it to spec and it would still leak gave it more and still
+Esteban Cantu it did leak after but it's because I didn't tighten or reposition that washer that seats on the oil line properly
Truck Master so I should take it off and reposition it?
+Esteban Cantu yes try that it worked for me
Truck Master it ended up being that the bolt was cracked that's why it was leaking 🤦🏾♂️ I put it on then when I was to tightening it, it snapped so I'm guessing it was already cracked which is what was causing the leakb
Trying to get my Y-bridge off on my 08 LMM. How were you able to get the passenger side back top bolt for the Y-bridge? Saw you were able to break it loose I wasn't even able to get a wrench on it to break it loose because its pretty tight to the compressor. It's also a pain to get at the driver side front turbo mount bolt just to loosen it to shift the turbo back a little.
+Chris King I really think if you used that long extension I had in the video you shouldn't have a problem, but it took me nearly a hour to figured that out good luck sir
Did you manage to get that passenger top left bolt for the y bridge I have an 08 lmm as well and can’t figure how to get it out
@@maxpeters2800 I cant remember what I did a day ago. Let alone 3 years ago. Lol. I think I used 1/4" extensions with a wobbly.
Chris King yeah I got it out thank god
You know you need to balance the billet with with your turbo core right? Doing it this way can result in unbalanced turbo and the vibrations will make it explode
Hey your comment is a little old by now but I just thought I'd chime in anyways. It's my understanding that the stock parts in the rotating assembly are individually balanced and reputable wheels like the Batmowheel, Wetzel wheel, etc. are also balanced so in the end its a zero-sum situation. It probably wouldn't hurt to get it fine tuned but there is enough balancing that has happened to prevent catastrophic failure. There are tons of people that have done this with good results (properly installed of course).
What size did you use for the turbo compressor housing? 8mm was to small 9 was to big.
+Jordan Wedmore I really can't remember but there is no way I used a 8.5 it could be your socket set
A 12 point 5/16 socket fit mine perfect.
What if there's shaft play of the wheel? New turbo?
There's going to be a tiny bit of play but if it's a good amount, either turbo rebuild or a new one.
Some up and down play is ok if it has in and out play time for rebuild or replacement
Clean job
I have an ihi so install will be slightly different I may buy a wheel and make a video.
+Dakota Kaech go for it you might help out a lot of people
Do you have to tune it if you put that on it on a lly
+dope_and_sexy_diesels no you don't have to tune it
Where did you get that flex swivel
+Ethan Adams aldi a food store believe or not
I am having trouble getting the new wheel on the whole way any suggestions, it was really hard to get it on as far as it is now.
+Erick Kowatch I'm sure you know this but it's reverse threaded so tighten it the opposite direction
Truck Master yes I do, I just wasn't sure if I am using too small of an impact, or anytjing. I was going to try using a socket on the opposite side, but could find any info on it. I don't currently have all of my tools, so I can't find the right size socket for it either.
+Erick Kowatch I had my impact on the full power setting to do this but that could be your problem
+Erick Kowatch I did a turbo downpipe install check that out you can block that turbine wheel from spinning so you can't tighten the compressor well but if I was you I would wait till you have your tools handy
have you had any problems since install, I keep getting told the turbo needs to be balanced or it will grenade?
Never had a problem it works great
Still going good on new wheel?
awesome
What did you do with your light bar ?
I took it off for now I didn't like the look much.
how do you like that billet wheel? notice much difference?
I like it a lot there is a noticeable difference in throttle response
Nice job. I noticed your turbo is awesome loud. Did the cold air intake and resonator delete alone make it that loud, or did you also do something else? I want to do something similar to my 2016 LML.
I'm thinking about doing this on my 06. Has a stock trans. Does this add a lot of power? I don't wanna blow up my trans until I have the money. Also is the wheel your using the same as a batmo or wicked wheel?
+Jace Peterson it's safe on your trans just enough to feel the difference but not to crazy, it's up to you but it also depends on what mods you already have done to the truck for me I have the intake efi live and a few other things that helped spool my stock turbo. If your truck is completely stock you might not feel it as much. Good luck
+Truck Master it's not the same but very similar to wicked wheel
+Truck Master yeah it's pretty much stock just running edge cts evolution an 5 inch exhaust. Efi live after this year. I just wanna do the wheel before winter hits. Did it give your truck louder sound? Thinking about ordering the wheel from Pensacola diesel as well
+Jace Peterson very slight on the whistle noise but if you want sound go with wicked wheel
This hurts my brain. 1st of all. Do NOT mess with the clearances of the compressor wheel to the compressor housing. That is a specific clearance from factory and you have to have the right clearance incase you have an shaft play from surging, thrusting, or anti thrust. The turbocharger is designed from Garrett to have the 15 or so thousands of an inch. 2nd. Never use an impact on a rotating assembly. Ever. No matter what. You can fracture the shaft or change the torque spec, cause yes Garrett has a torque spec for that. And if its messed with then you can screw up the free floating nature of the rotating assembly. Plus it puts stress on the thrust stack and hard parts. 3rd. YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO BALANCE A ROTATING ASSEMBLY. less important if you've rebuilt your turbo and have the shaft correct marked but on a new wheel, ESPECIALLY a roto wheel you need to balance. I have seen catasptrohic failure from not balancing rotors.
I’m sure you know your stuff but I’ve never had a problem and most guys that have completed the same install have not complained
I mean my actual job that I get paid to do is work on turbos. Rebuilding, analyzing for failure, and machining of all sorts. Didnt mean to start shit just putting that facts out there. Happy your turbo is still fine though. GT3788LVAS are a pretty pricey turbo
U can only install the wheel in Garrett turbos ?
+tony Andrade I think so not sure
Truck Master I bought the wheel but I haven't install it yet I'm not sure if only fits in Garrett turbos
+tony Andrade I'm guessing you have a different setup then mine, call the manufacturer for that wheel and ask them
Alright thanks for the info I will come them to make sure
What is the Part number
What kind of paint did you use?
Red Rustoleum Spray paint it actually works pretty well with the heat
+Truck Master that holds up to the heat good? Did your turbo get any louder or sound better?
It's been six+ months. Where's the full review you mentioned?
+Christopher Dear I will post one next week I was waiting to switch out my bullydog Monitor to the upgraded CTS Monitor. Sorry for the wait
+Christopher Dear I just posted one
Anyone know if you have to balance the turbo if you do not pull it?
No you don’t
Thank you for the reply! Love the videos, best description videos out there if you ask me! Keep em up!
As a newbie to duramaxes what exactly does the bridge do
Drake Hendrick if I remember correctly it's where the turbo delivers psi into the engine since it's a V config engine
Dylan Barnett alright makes sense thank you very much
Need to send the turbo off to be balanced if you do this.
narcoti Finally someone said it. This will never last.
Nahhhh overkill....
not an lml sooo
I notice that you said this is your third Duramax is there a reason why you like Duramax instead of Cummins or Powerstroke?
+Roland Salinas I'm a big Chevy guy so I stick with the DMAX so it's just a preference. I think all the brands and great in there own way
I agree I have three Chevys well one is a GMC Sierra
The other is a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500
And of course the 2004 Duramax 3500 my favorite!
Roland Salinas powerstroke lol.
Wow another Roland on here WTF 😲........sup Roland
OK so I have a 06 lbz duramax and my turbo is making a belt slipping noise dose anyone have a clue whats wrong
+Chance Broach check the shaft play
I can move the shaft side to side just a little bit and It don't move back and forth and it only makes the noise when I first get going after I get up to speed it don't do it any more and im not loosing any power
I'm in the process of replacing the billet wheel. But as usual it's always the last bolt!I tried using a impact wrench and it just spins and won't come off. I know it's reverse thread and still can't! So now I'm stuck.I noticed your using a compressor impact wrench is that what I'm going to have to use?I called thourughbred diesel and they said I'm going to have to pull the turbo out!I'm not doing that and never will.I've seen plenty of people use the compressor impact wrench and it seems to come off the first try. What do you think?
+roland salinas it's not the best idea to use the impact but I didn't have a problem you could damage the shaft but yes it's very effective. Maybe take off the turbo downpipe and brace the turbine wheel to take off the compressor wheel watch my downpipe install video for that. But if you use the impact it's at your own risk, I did it just make sure the impact is straight on good luck
no update video yet?
Yes I will get to it
REVIEW UPDATE VIDEO! ???
+2005llyduramax I just posted a update video th-cam.com/video/Lvxf5WCdKVw/w-d-xo.html
Truck Master Heck yeah, thanks brother!
You need calibrate turbine
pensacola 850
850!!!! I live rite down the street from Pensacola fuel injection. The old shop was called Pensacola diesel.
Truckmaster have you download your truck yet how many real horsepower do you have now with your upgrades
+Rodney DeWalt not sure yet but I'm definitely putting it on the dyno next year after I upgrad the ybridge but I'm curious as well
Truck Master okay you already done your EGR Delete what's the purpose of the y Bridge
, or is the y bridge something totally different
+Rodney DeWalt the bridge is attached to the Egr pipe so its different but I can't wait to upgrade that thing
If only i can show you how stupid the bolt pattern for the y bridge on the lmm lol top left bolt hit turbo housing
sucks you have to do so much for something so small
Billy Burke wish they would have just tucked it low passenger side so you could access it from the side.
imacheat7777 like on a cummapart
thats any vehicle from 2005-up, they keep shovin shit in that honestly does fuckall and is in the way
me2456 not just on 05 and up, my 01 lb7 is twice as much work than an lly, just cause I have all the fuel lines bolted and running across the top of my intake Valley in order to remove the crossover to access front of turbo
It's actually well worth it in the end! Great investment.
And learning experience
Little guys, big trucks.. 🤔
This looks like a nightmare!
+Plant Bee it was I'm glad it was over lol
It's not u just a soyboi
Sierra, sorry
There is so much wrong with this video. Including balancing and proper torque and the lack of locktite and the lack of bearing and seal change. All around worst way to do that but hey if it works, send it...?
Make a video and show us how it’s done!
That has to be a joke, putting a cheesy little Toyota POS as a lead in commercial for a Duramax upgrade channel. Unless you mean the GMC will go just as fast dragging the toyota on it's roof as it will going down the road with no load.
Have you ever heard of turbo balancing ? @ 100.000 rpm without balance you have really shortened the life of youre turbo and engine
Wicked wheels come already balanced it will not hurt anything
no fucking slack 2/327 Cco
+guy p what’s up brother
Aren't you suppose to like.. balance your turbo?.. lol
Don’t see the point
Holy shit 😳 now I see why people don't tune and mess with duramax's as much as they do 6.0 powerstroke or a 5.9 cummins. The 6.0 diesel you just take the intake pipe off and unbolt the turbo face to get to the wheel. Pretty simple, once he removed the intake that should of been it, you unplug 1 wire and take 1 pipe off. No draining the coolant or removing the A/C compresser or unplugging the main engine harness or removing shit over and under the bridge. Wtf, Takes less than 30 minutes all said and done. You see a tone of 700+ HP 6.0 powerstrokes but only a hand full of 700+ HP duramax's, no one wants to work on that shit, And then the 5.9 cummins is even easier and more straight forward.
If the manufacturer doesn't recommend balancing the assembly after install somebody is smoking rocks.
Someone say smoke rocks!!???
