It would be pretty cool to do the same type of video but talk about his modded turbos. 64 vs 68. Street vs race and which one is for what use. Have that fella talk all about those aspects. I think it would be a great video
Getting ready to have my LBZ Allison transmission rebuilt. Gonna have it beefed up. I'm getting ready to tune my LBZ. Right now she's bone stock. Doing a full EGR delete too.
Great tutorial Josh! Quick tidbit I’ll share comparing the size difference of the LLY and LBZ turbo. I have read that GM engineers made the decision to downsize the turbo starting in 2006 based around the introduction of the six speed Allison transmission with the overdrive. I am assuming testing showed the smaller 60.5/64 was more efficient at highway cruising speed’s while towing at slightly lower RPMs. Remember, they were engineering for high torque and low EGT’s over a broad range of speed for towing and every day applications, while trying to stay in compliance with the gestapo and their new emissions standards.
I have a 2000 Class A 36’ Newmar. My stock turbo has a cracked case, also the exhaust manifold is broken. Obviously I need to install both parts. The stock 5.9 l is rated at 260 hp. I want to increase the hp to the 300 hp mark. Which combination will get me there and what additional parts should I install. Thanks. Dan
Great info you forgot the LB7. COMPRESSOR WHEEL AND TURBINE. SIZE FOR IT ! MY QUESTION IS CAN ARE YOU ABLE TO INSTALL AN LLY TURBO INTO THE LB7 WITHOUT. CHANGING ANYTHING NO MOD JUST BOLT IT ON ?
Questions, I bought a rebuild lb7 turbo for my 02 duramax. The waste gate Diaphragm is hitting the bolt in front of it. Can it be clocked to fit properly?
So I was wondering. I wanted to buy a KC turbo kit for an lmm but they don’t make one so my question is can I build an lbs turbo with KC kit and install on my lmm?
? Is price for a rebuilt complete lmm engine. Might need to get one and so I’m asking you guys since you do great jobs and what saves me money rebuilt complete or fix my old one????
He said something about switching a 13 blade to a 10 blade? I don't care about the whistle. But what's that do as far as output. Like power or boost or exhaust. I'm guessing that's the blades for the exhaust output. Just wondering in there is a tiny drop in power out put or a slight gain. Wouldn't be much. But some guys like to know every little detail. About his truck out put.👍
Question for @ryansdieselservice. I get on a RDS turbo you hone the compressor side out another .5 inch to make it 64 but what do you do to the exhaust side? Especially if it's already a 66 exhaust from factory? How do you make it a better turbo is what I'm asking? Noce video Josh
Better flowing turbine is one big thing on a stock LLY unit. We still do some machine work on the LLY units but nothing to compared to all other which get quite a bit of machine work done.
@@TruckMaster so, if I were to win said turbo giveaway, it would be better to stick with the 13 vein for the mo powa babeh than that shweet whistle sound?
Doesn't the 2006 LLY have the same LLY turbo? I ask because I have a 2006 Silverado LLY but rarely see anything but '04.5-'05 as the years of the LLY. Maybe mine is a rare breed?
Kind of. They are a fixed turbo so there are no veins to get stuck or go bad. 04-10 share pretty much the same turbo so there are a lot more of them out in the world compared to lb7.
Hey truck master, I had a engine code come up today. Its P0238 boost sensor A circuit high. Any tips or tricks that could help on fixing this? It's an 05 lly. Thanks

How come you don’t make videos at that kids diesel shop anymore?
The lineup of the turbos with the info underneath was great so that I could pause it or screenshot it if ever needed. Good stuff!
Ryans Turbos are without a doubt the absolute best!!!
Definitely
What happened to Matt’s diesel shop? You don’t make videos with him anymore.

Did not know that! Great info
Thank you for that information Steve, very interesting.
Can the lly turbo fit on the lbz?
@@7kzonethey said it would, I might do that on my truck
Can you do a review of the Cp3 vs the newer cp4 that are blowing duramaxes up.
We got that cp4 in our Jetta. It's failed 2x now
Just do a CP3 conversion, way better fuel pump
2001 lb7 I want to upgrade my turbo and exhaust I’m not a mechanic any advice is good
If they need a test truck for a l5p let me know. Also im a turbo tech myself build reman about 30 holset turbos a week
So what you’re saying is, I should swap my lbz turbo for a lly

Very informative and clear explanation. Thank you!
Extremely interesting video specially the reason why the 6.0 whistle with the 10 blade turbine 👏👏
I have a 06 3500 love it
My LBZ turbo is starting to push a seal. I guess I’ll be getting a LLY upgraded unit.
Need one question answered…..do I let my 24 duramax turbo cool down….nothing out there to read…….my rv yes is a must…..😊
It’s not a bad idea to let it sit for a few seconds before shutting it off
Very Interesting ! That guys knows his stuff !
Thanks for your knowledge sir.. woulda liked you to go into depth more, love learning new stuff.
Very interesting video!!
Good jobs keep up the good content

Best turbo upgrade for stock lbz

So I was wondering. I wanted to buy a KC turbo kit for an lmm but they don’t make one so my question is can I build an lbs turbo with KC kit and install on my lmm?
What is your best advise on a turbo upgrade? I have a 2007.5 LMM. Upgrade my single turbo or consider a twin turbo?
I wish you would have gotten an answer. My 07.5 turbo vanes are sticking

Are rebuild kits interchangeable between lly and lml? I’m having a hard time finding a kit online that specifies lml
Thanks guy's!
Love your show. Can you ask what is the best aftermarket wheel for the lb7 turbo?
I’m honestly not to sure I ran the billet rotomaster and didn’t see much of a improvement
We always tell LB7 guys don't waste the money on a wheel, spend a couple hundred more for a complete supercore setup! Much better investment!
@@ryansdieselservice i seen the supercore on your website. Is there a powdercoating option?
Hey guys awesome video thank you so much Eric 🇺🇸👏
Can you put the watered cooled center section in a Powerstroke?

Steven Pellegrino I’d guess a 10 blade would be better, a lot less weight, think ford did it for the whistle.
So I got a 08 3500 gmc dually. How can I tell if my turbo bad?? Obvious signs with out removing it
That was awesome, thank you
Where's the 2.8L duramaax LWN?
Awesome information!
Can you swap a lly turbo on a lb7?
Just got a new garrett stage one for my lbz after my stock turbo took a crap , instead of rebuild, it was better to buy a new one lol

You guys compared the LLY turbo to the 6.0 for that whistle sound, which I think everyone loves. But which is more powerful and/or efficient?

Looking for 2013 silverado 3500HD Turbocharger
Thank you for the insight
how much more HP can a LLY turbo support ?
Doesn't the 2006 LLY have the same LLY turbo? I ask because I have a 2006 Silverado LLY but rarely see anything but '04.5-'05 as the years of the LLY. Maybe mine is a rare breed?
Not a LLY if it’s an 06. Mechanically a lbz with LLY tuning/horsepower number. Basically a detuned lbz.
@@gmanhall43 Any idea if it could be tuned with the LBZ tuning? It would sure be nice to get that extra horsepower.
My '05 Silverado 2500HD LLY, has 217k miles. It is bone stock. I am the 2nd owner. What Is The Life Span of My Turbo?
Idk
How do you get the Lb7 turbo to whistle?
Ryan’s dose his magic to them
So lly already has a Garrett from the factory
So you don’t ship to Canada?
easiest way to fix your S10 is to sell the 1/4ton crap and buy a dodge/ford
He said he mainly works on 04 to 10, is the turbo in an lb7 a more solid one?
Kind of. They are a fixed turbo so there are no veins to get stuck or go bad. 04-10 share pretty much the same turbo so there are a lot more of them out in the world compared to lb7.
Duramax 315 makes sense, thanks. Still on my original lb7 turbo and hope it lasts

Those Holset's are a poor design in my opinion.
What's wrong with them? Last a long time, move a lot of air. They don't spool as fast as the Garrets, but they weren't designed as a racing turbo.
