After years of growing ties between the Philippines and China under former President Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippines has since renewed its close alliance with the United States. President Ferdinand Marcos Jnr has signed several agreements, including one that allows US troops to be stationed at additional Philippine military bases. The deal comes amid growing tension between Beijing and Manila over competing claims in the South China Sea.

I see no issues with Philippines' claim. The islands and shoals in question are CLOSER to the Philippines after all.

To let everyone know, the Philippines is NOT claiming ALL of south china sea, only a portion of it, which is part of its Exclusive economic zone. So are other SEA countries in the region. Meanwhile china wants to hog all of it. The claims are debatable whether historical or by present ruling, but using force to assert claim does not make any country more friendlier to the other

The Philippines and the US had been allies since 1951. It has not "returned" to its alliance with the US because the Philippines and the US had not broken that alliance, which was the oldest of its kind in Asia. Duterte may have flirted with China but that was it. The people of the Philippines and the American people have a long history of friendship which can't be easily broken by Duterte or others like him.

The Philippines didn't return to USA alliance. There is this Mutual Defense Treaty (,MDT)

  • @marlondeveza2346

China has no right to claim the respective 200 miles Maritime economic zone. China must respect UNCLOS treaty where they are one the signatories.

Philippines military has always allied itself to US. It was only during our former president reign where he allied the government to China but the military was still low key allied to the US.

In Canada, Filipinos represent 2.5% of the population. So actually a significant higher percentage than in the USA.

    NO TO DUTERTE! AND CHINA!

  • @cendoctor

China is one of the largest country and still you want those small islands that its belong to our country. Why China didn't do this 50 years back and why now? Because they are already strong country and can easily bully small countries like us i hope China will not forget where they came from. How much more power you need? You are not even know how to respect our small fishermans who are fishing in the same area for their entire life. Philippines wants peace to everyone, we don't have the capability to fight back but like any other countries we also deserve respect. You pushed us to ask help to western countries because you never stand on your words like freedom in west Philippine sea.

Trump will be a huge friend to the Philipinoes he understands the implications of basing our troops there and of the longstanding commitment the U.S. has

  • @Carvajal2909

Filipinos must never let another Chinese aligned politician and their allies ever gain power again. Appeasing the Chinese is like temporarily feeding thieves.

  • @myrmidonsgaming4411

The “West Philippine Sea” claim is the EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) of the Philippines which is based in UNCLOS (United Convention to the Law of the Sea) which China is also a Signatory

  • @Winters777

Its not returned, The Mutual Defense Treaty is activated 😂😂😂
