  • China and its neighbours all want a piece of the South China Sea.
Rights to fish, territory, oil and gas.
This fight has it all, including the potential for war.
So why is ASEAN struggling to manage the problem? And why won’t China share?

Yeah you see there is history. these incident is from early incident escalation.

technically if you plot the EEZ 200 nautical miles of every country's coastline on the map, some boundaries really overlaps. In the case of China and Vietnam they are entitled to have another 200 miles (400 in total) because of their continental shelf and the overlapping increases. Now if you build an island in the middle of the sea, your EEZ will again be extended. There are really gray areas in that UNCLOS and this really translate to disputes.

Invading and illegally colonizing other nations land. Stealing precious resources based on false flags like WMD and 911 . Intimidation through economic sanctions and unjustified military actions. Bullying of smaller nations ......So what is wrong? China just follow the pace! at least China is not manufacturing false flags to attack any other country. • @soshelp4085
      @soshelp4085 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

In 1947, the government of the Republic of China drew a nine-dash line and drew up a map of the locations of the islands in the South China Sea. It set our southernmost territory at 4 degrees north latitude and included the Zengmu Shoal within the territorial line. At that time, this U-shaped line or nine-dash line was to indicate the scope of our jurisdiction to the international community and list a territorial line. I think the nine-dash line should be an island ownership line. China should finalize the legal status of the nine-dash line as soon as possible, otherwise there will be endless consequences. Because Vietnam has announced its law of the sea, this is very detrimental to us, because the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea only stipulates a 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone, but it does not specify how the 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone should be drawn. This requires relevant countries to formulate their own basic maritime laws to solve the problem.

How is China being aggressive if their security depends on able to access beyond the first island chain. If you country's survival and long term prosperity depend on securing this thing, you will be extremely stupid not to try to fight for it. But fighting for it does not have to be violent and while China lay stakes to some islands in SCS, the most we have seen is unfortunate skirmishes being blown out of proportion (deliberately mostly by western media). Seem like we like to talk about everyone's security concerns and not about China's. If you only look at your own needs and ignore everyone else, you are always going to sleepwalk into a war like what America does every time.
If you want peace, learn to look at things from each other's perspectives and negotiate in good faith. Or else, you are just guaranteeing you are going to war. This kind of one-sided and arrogant perspective is the bread and butter of western countries, and should not be adopted by SE Asia.

China building military bases on Islands in its own backyard (where Chinese have been using for centuries before anyone else were there) it's "unacceptable for the United States." While US has built 400 military bases with nukes aiming at China, encircling China.

I have the impression this is somewhat similar to the situation what Russia had with Constanipole in the 19th century, taking the city wouldnt have solved the issue, as Russia could be easily blocked at Gibraltar and Suez -> so at least the access to the S-C-Sea can be easily blocked by chokepoints like the Malacca Strait, or by other affected island nations in the Pacific ... and we all know what happend back then -> Russia's impatient ambitions (coupled with that of those of Imperial Germany) was 1 of the main catalyst for WW1, which actually screwed up the whole 20th century ... that shouldnt be allowed to happen again ...

Some mistakes or missing informations here:
    - Taiwan is not a country
    - The ROC aka Taiwan has long had an 11-dash line
    - Not only China had disputes with its neighbours. The other ones have them too (especially Vietnam and the PH)
    - Where is the proof, that the constructions on the islands are used for military purposes?

In this video it should be noted that the countries in the ASEAN group that didn´t want to irritate Chine are not the ones with any interest in the South China Sea but the ones who are downriver of China along the river Mekong, namely Thailand, Laos & Cambodia. The exception being Vietnam who is a major player in the S.C.S. & also part of the Mekong group.

I like the Bahamas. At one point less than 70 miles off the coast of Florida. I think the US should take it. Likely some native people who migrated from Florida thousands of years ago owned it, and now we own Florida, so it makes sense. While we are at it, I like Vancouver Island too.

I'd just like to point out that most of the smaller Asian countries who are competing with China for the South China Sea have American naval bases. No world power would want USA warships in their backyard. Rather than the issue being that China just wants to hog resources and bully other people, there is also another perspective that China wants to take countermeasures against USA basically having naval bases all over Asia. How would USA feel if China had several hundred naval bases in the Caribbean islands? China should really do a better job being friends with its neighbors but when there are potential threats outside your yard, you would at least want to put a safety boundary/zone for yourself in case they decided to storm you.

I love how Vietnam fight for their seas. Some people in my country fight for it too but their influence and backing were not much as the one who has more which is pretty sad. If China succeeded, then it’s neighboring countries won’t be able to regain their rights on their seas anymore. UNCLOS should’ve stand their ground and do what they have to do.
