    The Philippines fought for its rights and won but the UN has to assert that not the Philippines alone.
    Its the UN that is doing nothing.

      No one's going to war. Even China isn't thinking about that (for now). Also, it's the nuclear age! Even if other Asean countries join together, we don't have enough technology to fight a giant like China who has nukes in their arsenal. The solution I'm seeing is putting trade sanctions on China so they won't have resources to fuel their forces.

    Don't believe those who say that they would help the Philippines when it goes to war with China! I doubt that they are even trained to use guns! Most likely they are just ordinary people who are nothing but words! Instead of saying that, why don't we try to encourage & convince one another to go for a more peaceful resolution rather than coercion! Let's remind each other that war SHOULD NEVER BE an option because we would definitely lose & suffer in the end! Just think of the damage it's gonna have on the environment and the loss of properties and lives! If you want to die in a war, please die alone! Don't drag us into it. Our lives matter more than any disputed territories! No one really owns it anyway. Not even the Philippines and other neighboring countries. If China wants it, then let it have it! technically if you plot the EEZ 200 nautical miles of every country's coastline on the map, some boundaries really overlaps. In the case of China and Vietnam they are entitled to have another 200 miles (400 in total) because of their continental shelf and the overlapping increases. Now if you build an island in the middle of the sea, your EEZ will again be extended. There are really gray areas in that UNCLOS and this really translate to disputes.

    • @soshelp4085
      @soshelp4085 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In 1947, the government of the Republic of China drew a nine-dash line and drew up a map of the locations of the islands in the South China Sea. It set our southernmost territory at 4 degrees north latitude and included the Zengmu Shoal within the territorial line. At that time, this U-shaped line or nine-dash line was to indicate the scope of our jurisdiction to the international community and list a territorial line. I think the nine-dash line should be an island ownership line. China should finalize the legal status of the nine-dash line as soon as possible, otherwise there will be endless consequences. Because Vietnam has announced its law of the sea, this is very detrimental to us, because the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea only stipulates a 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone, but it does not specify how the 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone should be drawn. This requires relevant countries to formulate their own basic maritime laws to solve the problem.

    Vietnamese already continously administrated both of 2 these islands since 17th century and no single country except VN claimed those at that time. Both of Paracel and Spratly were belong to Indochina/Annam colony of France, so after getting independence, Vietnam had full right to take these 2 islands back obviously. And South Vietnam did that and exercised legal control over these 2 islands until China came illegally in 1974 and 1988. And I want to make it clear that Vietnam does not claim entire SCS, we only claim our 200 nautical mile EEZ + our these 2 islands which lay outside of our EEZ( but as I said EEZ can't apply for islands). Even a lot of messy problems arising until now after Chinese came and some other countries claimed based on EEZ, hope Vietnam and other countries involving can avoid conflict as much as possible
    More detail about San Francisco Conference :
    The conference was joined by 51 countries around the world. This is the piece treaty of UN attempt to return all colonies to its initial country after WW2, and as a result, this treaty formed hundred of nowadays countries in the world. In the treaty Japan had to return all colonies back to original countries. Both of China and Vietnam asserted their claim on Hoàng Sa( Paracel Islands ) and Trường Sa ( Spratly Islands ) but China's claim was rejected by 45 out of 51 countries whereas Tran Van Huu, Prime Minister of Bao Dai’s government of Vietnam stated that “in order to annul the seeds of possible disputes, we claim our sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos”. No objections were raised nor any reservations made against his statement at the conference.
    France, in the victory side, also asserted the sovereignty of both of Paracel and Spratly Islands are belong to Annam of Vietnamese because Japan took over them from France.
    Hoàng Sa and Trường Sa was belong to South Vietnam from 1956 to 1974 and the entire UN, except China nor Russia, recognized and didn't oppose to them. In 1974 China illegally fought and invaded Hoàng Sa ( Paracel Islands) and fought Trường Sa (Spratly Islands) in 1988, but it could only occupy small part of Spratly Islands.

      How is China being aggressive if their security depends on able to access beyond the first island chain. If you country's survival and long term prosperity depend on securing this thing, you will be extremely stupid not to try to fight for it. But fighting for it does not have to be violent and while China lay stakes to some islands in SCS, the most we have seen is unfortunate skirmishes being blown out of proportion (deliberately mostly by western media). Seem like we like to talk about everyone's security concerns and not about China's. If you only look at your own needs and ignore everyone else, you are always going to sleepwalk into a war like what America does every time.
      If you want peace, learn to look at things from each other's perspectives and negotiate in good faith. Or else, you are just guaranteeing you are going to war. This kind of one-sided and arrogant perspective is the bread and butter of western countries, and should not be adopted by SE Asia.
