    I (a woman) had trouble starting my mower today. Spoke to my dad on the phone and he said it is likely a clogged carburetor. Normally I would have to wait for him to come a few days later to fix it. However, today I decided to give it a try myself. I watched your video every step of the way and I can proudly say I cleaned my carburetor and got my mower working again, all by myself and with your help. Thank you so much for posting this video.

      next time just have someone squirt a little fuel in the carb while u pull the starter rope, you'll get it runnin and the carb will clear itself up.

    I used disc brake cleaner instead of carb cleaner, because my shop didn't have any.

    I met this exact carburetor today for the first time and the stud trick was a great idea. This nearly new mower was left in a carport for years and the fuel tank was loaded with water. Same with the sump bowl, it looked like gobs of congealed yellow jelly inside. Thanks to you, Sir, I know how to go back inside and really clean it! Or order a new one! LOL! In Louisville, Ky.

    Very helpful video, appreciated the trick of utilizing a threaded stud rod. The Honda GCV160 engine uses very long M6 bolts in the 83mm range which i had none, however had some M6 -1 in smaller lengths. I took four (4) 6-1x45mm bolts and cut the heads off, then welded four (4) remaining threaded rods in pairs of two (2) so that i ultimately had two (2) threaded rods one for each side. I confirmed compression & spark, drained and refilled gas as it was a bit funky, and thoroughly cleaned the carb using carb cleaner & welder/carb/torch wire tips. You can do the job without the threaded bolt, however just much easier making use of them. Appreciate the tip, cheers.

      Just out or curiosity. Why did you need it cleaned? Also do you have prior experience with small engines or was this a learning curve for you. I wanna try cleaning mine because I think the jet is clogged

    • @mannymanny159
      @mannymanny159 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Adam. No I have no experience with small engine repair at all. My Power washer wasn't able to start this year, it turned over but wasn't able to stay running for more than a second. Last year I was only able to run it with the choke on. It was revving up an down when I used it. It sounded terrible... After some research online I discovered it was a carburetor... The carburetor could have been ordered online and then replaced but I thought I'd take the challenge and do it myself. Apart from Carburetor spray it's very light on tools. The trick of using twist tie to clean the jets was a great advice... Using the camera on the phone to record the part hook-ups was useful. If I had to do it again I think I could do it in less than 30 minutes including an oil change... I'd take on the challenge. If you have a bad outcome, and I doubt you will you can always buy one online... Small Engine people are extremely expensive for some reason, and it's time consuming to take your small engine there, then return a few days later with a hefty bill (which would require me a good part of my working day to pay for).
      In my case the blockage was the hole in the copper screw that houses the main jet.
      You'll find it very rewarding to fix, and you can add the title of "Small Engine Repair Person" to your arsenal of skills.
      Hope that helps. Best of luck.

    The visual parts of this video are helpful, however for individuals who do not know how parts of the carburetor function, this video does not provide support for that type of individual.
    More comments explaining things like the 'Needle' how it goes in or other parts within the carburetor such as the emulsion tube - can it go in either direction or is it one direction only etc. etc.
    Details such as this are very helpful especially if you are putting out an instructional video you cannot assume that everybody has your experience.
    Overall it is a decent video giving average instructions on tearing it down.

    I seem to have stripped my main jet, meaning that I was trying to use a flathead driver (just like the video) to unscrew it, and the brass thing was so malleable that it bent and stripped. How do I get it out now?
    I ordered a replacement carb on Amazon thinking that would be easier, but even though it says it fits GCV160 it's not the same.

    • @davidcurnutt9584
      @davidcurnutt9584  วันที่ผ่านมา

      If the main jet isn’t completely stripped you can try to use a blow torch on the stem that it sits in for about 10-20 seconds. Or a lighter for about a minute. The aluminum body will expand before the brass does allowing it to loosen a little to get out. This is a last ditch effort that if it doesn’t work, your carb is lost.
      Got to parts tree, or jacks small engines and look up the exact model of your Honda to find the exact replacement on Amazon.
