Glad I stumbled on this channel. I'm rewilding a former pine plantation north of Auckland with native species and haven't paid much attention to the fungi but after seeing this my eyes are newly opened. Cheers.
I love the close - ups of the fungi, especially the tiny ones… all are so beautiful, thank you all for sharing incredible knowledge and passion with us 🍄
Don't forget to check around your neighborhood in hard woodchips used in gardens. Seems like a bunch of new species are being found in your area. Psychedelic ones too ;)
I was just in NZ in early April. I took a few hikes on both islands. On the south island near Milford Sound I found some pretty cool fungi. A whole 2x2 foot log covered in what looked like turkey tail! Oh and toadstools everywhere as well!
Hey Antonio in river running lingo it's called a Groover because they used to use rocket boxes to shed in and you got two grooves on your butt from sitting on the rocket box haha love your show hope we turn all lawns into endemic forests
I'm catching up on a back log of your videos that I've missed. 2 weeks ago I attended a presentation on medicinal and culinary uses of mushrooms (and other fungi, like chaga). It was fascinating and it coincided so nicely with your mycology videos in New Zealand! --- Also, from another video: Vermont doesn't have billboards in the US! Come visit us. Lots of great woodlands up here (and lots of fungi too).
Hope you get to see some virgin native forest. I went to some near Rotorua where they put some ziplines. Pretty mind blasting how old some of those trees are.

Honestly, if they'd had your ability to process the shit of life, they'd have both made it 😊 Damn I love seeing this southern hemisphere stuff, so glad you're dropping every day. You spoil us!
Really cool seeing one of these about Auckland. Lots of stuff I had no idea about and have never noticed before, I know about the plants and the birds but not the fungi. It’s strange hearing the Latin names for everything
We had a portable toilet called "The Groover" with us on our high school trip down the Green River in Utah. Had to take turns carrying the thing in our canoes.
Hey Tony it would have been nice if you found the really s***** piece of Auckland and then a video like it did the one in Oakland video#195 or the next place you go it's foreign I like to see for ghettos and what's growing in them if you can thank you
@@LillyJem That's pretty interesting, but then again potentially makes sense.. Given NZ sunk but for some islands, after breaking off from Australia, then they wouldn't be from NZ. But the Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland is the world's oldest continuous forest. And Australia is the world's oldest continent, which is exactly why it's so rich in minerals. And the Aborigines are the world's oldest continuous culture.. At various points in history there was regular trade between the Aborigines & early Asians, during the last ice age when you could walk from Australia to modern day Malaysia. There was another ice age before that, it's possible that is where the spread of Psilocybe mushrooms began, if indeed they are from Australasia.. Interestingly, Aborigines themselves don't have oral history of use of Psilocybe mushrooms.. But a species of acacia that grows in the Eucalypt forests around the NSW/VIC coastal border is one of the world's strongest sources of DMT in the bark. So it's possible that had some connection to Dreamtime..
