The Mulan segment could use some cheography work but considering it's the newest part of the show there's plenty of chance to work on that. I always felt the Pocahontas segment dragged long and didn't make that much sense in the original. One of those rare occasions where a current day Disney fix actually worked.
There was a reason Pocahontas dragged on for so long. It was 90s Frozen. With the success of Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine, Disney felt that Pocahontas was going to be their most successful princess to date. Why wouldn’t she? She would be their first American princess. So there was a Pocahontas character breakfast where Disney Junior Live is now, and they gave Pocahontas her very own animal show at the brand new Animal Kingdom. She might not have had dedicated gift shops like Frozen, but she still had far more merch available at the parks than any previous Disney Movie.
Did they give her her own parade? Sadly, no. They decided to let some newfangled technological gimmick have one instead. Some crazy CGI deal involving living toys. The collaboration they had with some upcoming studio who wanted to produce their own very first full length theatrical movie. Who’d’ve thought that would be the one that not only would sell an insane amount of merch, but have 3 sequels, 2 spin offs, a tv series, and an entire land at multiple parks.
I'm not even a frozen fan but seeing that part live sent my soul into the stratosphere

i cried watching this. Amazing job to everyone involved in this show.
Maybe in the future if they have more casts, they can have like a group fighting routine for the Mulan segment, more guards chasing Aladin and boats for the Moana scene. Other than that, this is definitely an improvement. I usually would bypass Fantasmic before but this entices me more to watch it.
That was my thought about the new scenes, there is just one person on stage.
I had the exact same reaction those two scenes in particular felt completely empty
They should make a boat from the movie Moana.
It's a good update! Though I wish there were better projections onto the mountain like Disneyland did it. The Mulan and Aladdin scenes could have added more actors, and it would have been great to have another villain scene.

I’m hoping Mother Gothel would be the next additional villain.

The hero section is cool if maybe a bit too long . Kind of wish they switched Moana and Elsa because "Show Yourself" feels more like the climax of that moment musically. Other than that, it's definitely a nice addition to the show, though I don't know if I can see it transferring to Disneyland considering it doesn't necessarily flow with the more "Mickey's Dream" approach and requires a slightly bigger stage.

A lot of the projection segments are from the original Fantasmic at Disneyland when it first came out. The scenes from Pocahontas to Mulan, Frozen, Moana and Aladdin is new.

Generally a fan of the new "heroes" segment, I think it's an upgrade, but I can't be the only one who was expecting Moana's bit to have... boats? On the water? Like, so much of that movie was boats???
I think they wanted to showcase Moana's connection with the Ocean by having her walk on water.
Speaking of which, early plans called for Mickey to walk on water in the original show, but it was cut because they couldn't get the effect to work.
And now, 24 years later, Moana gets to do just that.
@@jimbodeek Did not know that about the early plans, very cool! I do like that she gets to splash around in the water a bit. I can't quite convince my brain she's walking on the water, but it's close enough, I'll take it. The song is the part where she sings to the ghost ships though, so I still think they could have included some ancestors on boats if they'd made the segment just a smidge longer (they could cut some of those endless bubbles for time, I would not mind).
@@TheFancyHatLadyReads If they wanted the ancestors' boats to be represented by physical boats, then they likely would have had to create new ones. But it looks like creating new boats wasn't in the budget for the update.
And of course, they can't use the barges, since they're needed for the Princess Medley.
@@jimbodeek The old Pocahontas segment had some canoes, didn't it? I think I was imagining they'd do a makeover on those and stick sails on them.🙃 Seems a shame if they still have them not to use them at all.

But they could have recycled the hulls to make catamarans for this segment.
I love it, the updates work, my only issues: besides minor malfunctions with some pyro (Mickey's Sword, and the boat spinners)
I do wish the Dragon was updated, Disneyland's is more accurate, and given the years its been, I felt this was the time to do the update to the Murphy model.
the only other I can think of is the mulan scene, the choreography seems slow, and I think they should add a few more cast to join the two on stage. The Stage is bigger than we know, so I know they can do faster movement. I feel this can get improved as the actors get more comfortable performing, but yeah. Overall an improvement
Wonderful soundtrack. The drone-like intro lights scattered , then focused effect! Great. Matched the traditional outro at the end when lights pull in suddenly. Nice bookends.
Fantasmic 1.5. Needs more work done. The Elsa and Moana scenes are the best. WE NEED A NEW DRAGON ASAP

The sunrise in The Lion King Updated from Disneyland. Plus with Baloo in middle floating barge. New black-lit monkeys from Tokyo version.
New and more bubble scenes such as Zootopia, Peter Pan, And more.
The Evil Queen transformed and trap Mickey in mirror at add scene.
Mickey eventually manages to escape the mirror.

Very enjoyable. The Disneyland one would benefit from the new heroes segment, but I think the bubble section right before the heroes goes on a little too long. But, that's just me, and I know the use of the screens is a big part of misdirection for the audience so that cast members can set up different props as the show goes on.
We'd love to get a "Tom's Commentary/Opinion" video comparing the old Fantasmic! with the new show!
So happy that they kept the original 1998 theme of Fantasmic which also used at Disneyland in 1992 rather than using rescored theme like Disneyland currently. The new version also kept energetic post-show music instead of replaced with defunct ballad TDS Exit Music "Imagination Song" that currently used at Disneyland.
I prefer Disneyland's Fantasmic over WDW's, but after being extremely disappointed with Fantasmic 2.0, it's _so nice_ to hear the original score! No Mickey talking over everything, no removing some of my favorite flourishes/marks... very refreshing to hear.
You'd think that being over a decade since the "new" dragon debuted in Disneyland's show, that they wouldn't still be using the cherry picker dragon at WDW. That said, At least this version didn't cut the Evil Queen transformation. I liked the concept of the new middle scene, but I think there were too many projections in use, especially during Frozen, I could barely even see Elsa to know why the audience was freaking out, I assume it might have been a quick costume change, but at this zoom out perspective I really couldn't tell.
Well the reason the old dragon is still in use is because of the stage itself and they'd have to massively modify it to accommodate for a bigger dragon.
How about Mickey in Mirror with evil Queen transformation?

So big thing I noticed is opening night (compared to the cast preview night) is the middle laser on the mountain was off during the finale. Also they cut back on the fireworks during the finale. Looks like they want it to be more like Disneyland where the light affects are prioritized over the fireworks. Which is a bummer because the Finale was always amazing. The lasers could have made this 10x better. Overall good changes. Can't wait to come see it in person!

I still prefer Disneyland's Fantasmic over Hollywood Studios. Hidden right in front of our noses the entire time at Tom Sawyer's Island and the rivers of America, the same place it looked boring and normal through the day, suddenly there is a dragon throwing fire at you at night, just pure magic, and was it me or does Mickey dance a bit better with the rhythm of the music at the end on Disneyland than on Hollywood studios?

I think we can all agree now this update for WDW Fantasmic! has met up and surpassed Disneyland’s Fantasmic!
While we agree Disneyland Fantasmic was extremely superior, the 2.0 version at DL are disappointed due to rescoring of the theme song and princess medley.
Update jungle, bubbles, with Zootopia, Peter Pan, Big Hero 6
It’s great for the east-coast park-goers to have this show back, I’m sure. But despite the 2-year hiatus, and despite the purpose-built stage and technical apparatus for the show at Hollywood Studios, the east-coast show still isn’t at the same level of the west-coast version. The entertainment folks on the west coast have produced such an amazing show despite the limited physical space and the challenges they faced due to needing to maintain the thematic integrity of a preexisting land (New Orleans Square and Tom Sawyer Island). It’s such a joy watching the show magically unfold like origami from a nondescript shack on Tom Sawyer island; that itself is a pretty big part of the charm of the show. The west coast show also simply includes more technological storytelling tools which allow for a much more creative and immersive use of the physical set-pieces which leads to an overall more compelling and visually enveloping show.
The HS show continues to lack basic storytelling tools, like truly dancing, moving fountain heads, intricate projection mapping on the stage itself, and a dragon that’s more than a cherry picker.
I hope these tools and props can be added to the HS show eventually.
You'd think having a purpose built stage and show area that the show would be a lot cooler but it just feels so.... unrefined

Considering they've added Princess and the Frog characters at the end, I'm honestly surprised Dr. Facilier himself doesn't appear in the lineup of villains
Watched it in person tonight before heading back to England tomorrow. I think it surpasses the old version and the wife teared up when seeing mickey again. Really worth going to see live!!
Considering how long the attraction was closed, they could have done more. But I can definitely see the improvements. Wish it was as refined and reimagined as Fantasmic in DisneyLand, but I do like that they kept the original score, as I prefer it over the new one they did for lands 2.0.
That's necessary because DL 2.0 was suspended due to the Maleficent dragon fire, which was far taller than any audio-animatronic Disney built (45 feet)
Unpopular opinion. I was underwhelmed with the Mulan martial arts movements and the Aladdin part. The bubble sequence is too long. Seems like it could use a few finishing touches
It’s lacking story, the music is not the same, clashes in odd ways missing harmony. The lights look nice, but it needs some tweaks for sure 😅
My guess is that Disney wanted the show back up and running as soon as it could on the cheap for Florida. Easy to have animation on the screens. It needs a proper upgrade like Disneyland had.
Bubble sequence was always lengthy. I am assuming because they need that much time to set up the next scene.
@@MiguelsAdventures I think they need to work on the story transitions between the live action scenes. Disneyland 2.0 did that with Sorcerer Mickey going through the story which was a welcome change from 1.0. More of what they did with the transition to the Jafar snake scene. I do agree projection mapping is a must and updated dragon. Hopefully Disney will learn it's lesson from "Murphy". Not a bad effort per say but Disneyland's version had more TLC . Happy WDW has their version returning but would of liked to have waited a bit longer to have a 2.0 update like California had.
@@UmmYeahOk It was necessary for setting up the Pocahontas scene, but this new scene doesn’t require that much set up.

I was hoping there would be changes to the villain sequence, like a couple of extra villains.
As much, I am happy for WDW but I feel like Fantasmic was not invested in the way’s DLR was. So like someone said this is more of a Fantasmic 1.5. If they want to keep the original score, at least update the machines and stuff as I was understanding from other comments on here.

Dragon looking pretty rough. Lol you can’t even see it. Budget dragon compared to the one in Disney land. The money they invested to fix the show and upgraded it, and the dragon still trashy doe, they did it dirty.

lol, “barely see it.” I remember being able to finally see the Disneyland version in 2018. I knew their dragon was so much better. When it came time for her to appear though, I couldn’t see it. I could hear that she was supposed to be there, and the crowd was reacting like she was there. Confused, I tilted my head. There she was! I missed the entire reveal all because of one stupid lamp post!!!
@@UmmYeahOk she is just a forklift with the head on it, with some fabric. Disney Land one is so good, I love her more. This “upgraded one” seems like a puppet head with maybe two cast members moving the head and the wings

@@ascallednobody “Years?” The park was closed for four months. While Universal was building their third park, you’re telling me Disney couldn’t cut open the mountain and reset the concrete? It’s almost been 4 years and they still haven’t reopened the Disney World Railroad. These things don’t take “years.” They take financial investment and labor, neither of which Disney wants to pay for. They had two and a half years to produce a clone of the Disneyland dragon, or even relocate Tokyo’s discontinued one, but they didn’t. They couldn’t even bother to turn on Sonny Eclipse when we were there, because $$$.
@@UmmYeahOk Yes I am telling you that disney couldn't cut half of the mountain to fix it because its gonna affect the park having an only e ticket attraction closed in a park that isnt doing well and its harder than you think to fix stuff like this

Last saw fantasmic back in 2015. The newest version of the show needs some tweaking, but it's still a neat show. Looks like Mickey's sword malfunctioned, I think it's suppose to shoot sparks.
