I successfully replaced my steering wheel, but did have some issues following this tutorial. What happened was when I lifted the wheel off the spline, the black cover attached to the ribbon wires popped up and off and it fell through itself and so was all twisted and so I looked on youtube how to fix that problem and all I found was people saying "buy a new one" and the difficulty in replacing that part was ten times harder than replacing the steering wheel! Ugh! I was 'deep in dispear'. Anyway after multiple trys to disentangle the ribbons, I gave up for a few hours then came back to it with a clear mind and like one of those puzzles, in a moment of clarity, I managed to disentangle the ribbons so that they were all parallel, and then I carefully placed them back neatly, then I began rotating the housing back and forth and found the total reach was 5 1/2 rotations, so I then turned it back 2 3/4 rotations and put the steering wheel back on, went for a drive and found that full lock was 2 1/2 turns either way - so 1/4 of a turn spare - before it went tight. Cruise control works, horn works and hopefully the airbag still works. I was very relieved.

What does the first connector do?, My steering wheel doesn't have that plugged in and my horn isn't working. Is that why?
You check the fuse?
Could be for the cruise control buttons if you don't have any...
I have the same problem, could you fix it ?
The 2004 Subaru Outback steering wheel looks nothing like this once opened up. Disappointed
