@@brucemadden1626 100% AGREED! I used to PRAISE the Japanese for their simplicity and engineering when working on their products, but NOT AFTER this debacle. I came here after beginning to attempt replacing these headlights one afternoon, after about 30 minutes into it I realized they weren't coming out as easily as I anticipated, watched this video and began CURSING the dumb bastard engineer who allowed this design, absolutely inexcusable... Subaru you REALLY f'd the dog on this one!!
Good video, very clear, but did anybody notice the brand new light is broken at the outer rear edge? Where it meets the fender - a big chunk is missing! Especially noticeable at 9:24. lol

Great video thank you! My old Chevy has 3 bolts to change the headlights, and I don’t even need to remove the front wheels. Why have they done this to us!??
Wow you have to take the bumper off? And take the wheels off?!? What a pain. I have taken off headlights on other cars where the process was so much simpler.
This is an extremely extra method lol Pop the hood, remove the plastic screw to your washer fluid valve with a philips for the wiggle room (on driver's side) Remove your gray cap by twisting it out, take the bad light out and put the good one in. 10 minutes max
Helpful tip: if you are watching this video and you have a subaru Forester, the grill may be separate from the fender. DO NOT REMOVE IT! It is a bitch to get back on.
You totally ignored that you ripped off the double sided tape on the top of both fender flares. Now the dirt and salt will be getting in from the top causing premature rust.

2004 is a different generation of Subaru Outback. I have a 2004 and a 2007 Subaru Outback and the headlights are completely different. They changed the headlight in 2005
Man I was too much work my buddy just change my Subaru 2008, Outback lights in less than 15 minutes why did you takeoff the whole bumper all you had to do is start from the top not the bottom.
Just bought this junk ass car, ugg. Cant disable alarm, rain leaks because no rain guard integration, back deck leaks when u open it, NOW, went to change headlight bulbs to LED, drivers side a breeze, just to find out the passenger side bulb IS GLUED IN WITH BLACK GLUE, wont even budge. Since the headlights are bad looking, thought, heck, lets just change the entire headlight, psssss, not now, after watching this headache of a job, uggg

That's just horrible design, but a useful video on how to manage a needlessly over-engineered component on what should be a simple fix.
I agree 100%; just made that comment to Clearanceman 2. Absolutely, one of the STUPIDEST designs ever😝
Was able to install my headlights because of this. saved an arm and a leg. Thanks guys!
Nothing on these cars is easy. The generation before was so much easier to work on
Having done the suspension, brakes, & shocks, which was relatively easy, this is a DISASTER. Whoever designed this should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY.

Loooool true
yep...noticed it too.. and went straight to the comments to see if there is any mention of it. :)
Very nice PRO video! Great job! No stupid music or bad attitude! Great job

Do not fear changing your headlights. It's not as bad as it seems!
Compared to most vehicles, IT IS!
Great video thank you! My old Chevy has 3 bolts to change the headlights, and I don’t even need to remove the front wheels. Why have they done this to us!??
this is mislabeled- the title should be more specific considering the guy is replacing the WHOLE ASSEMBLY.....
+PFKM, SAN DIEGO Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
Thank you, this was a huge help in working on my Sube. I posted your link in my video on doing this and gave you guys credit.

Agreed.
I must say due to this simple fact that I now slightly regret buying an outback
Already replied above a few times with basically the same comment; hope they fired that idiot
No. You don't have to do 80% of what this video shows

Too much work for me. Take the bumper off? Wow.
To hell with this. I'd rather sell my Subaru to a scrapper and not deal with it...😂
That's what they want you to do
Thanks man, this video helped a bunch.

Can't quite get to the passenger side lamp

What is the name/part number for the piece of plastic that is attached to the headlight itself?
9:24 is the corner of the headlight broken???
+Dailydriver Yes, it appears the corner is broken on the headlight.
Hey 1A, add the word "assembly" to the title so you don't have people thinking they need to take a class at the vo-tech to change a bulb.
You totally ignored that you ripped off the double sided tape on the top of both fender flares. Now the dirt and salt will be getting in from the top causing premature rust.
Can you pull the full fender off and re tape it propely? or u better off another way?
How long should this project take me
About 13 inches.
Anywhere between 3 to five hours depending on how much experience you have and if this video matches your exact model.
Oh my Gods the car is on a lift🙏🏼😊
Not great design to do home I supposed to do this at home.
Ha!
You can do it at home on boards or ramps, but getting behind the wheelwell is a huge pain.
Thank you very nice 👌 👍
What is the reason for disconnecting the fog lamp wires? They don't appear to interfere with any of the other steps.
+Richard Laxar It is easier and safer to get them out of the way at the beginning of this replacement. Thanks for watching.
The fog lamps are integrated into the front bumper. The fog lamp wires must be disconnected in order to remove the front bumper from the car.
very nice thanks a lot

I also don’t have that handy mini pry bar! Dang. Wasn’t watching a video and how to change the lightbulbs and the headlamps? Lol

They are still not bright enough, I have the same lights and I hate them.
