Thank God no one was injured and the damage was not worse. We experienced Hurricane Elsa here in Barbados and had significant damage to many homes but thankfully again we had no loss of lives.

Hannah - I live in mesa its our second year here - I have learned here that the rocks while beautiful around the base of the plants cook the plant with the heat - so I have changed my bases of plants - I dont have gravel around the bases - I do have mulch (I was told not to use mulch due to scorpions) but my plants are doing so much better with the mulch at their feet. I have NOT had any scorpions (although we do have a pest guy every three months) .... your lavender is a good option it does like dry -
What a Blessing that the tree missed crashing through your house and that you all are unharmed. As you said, as sad as it is to lose that beautiful tree, it could have been much worse had the circumstances and wind direction been different. I was thinking about this today and I realized that you guys were blessed by the storm...you or the boys could have been in the hammock, or on your side porch, or the boys could have been playing and the tree could have come down on any of you. I know how you felt about the tree cause I had some I used to open my eyes to every morning too. Many nurseries have larger trees they will plant for you so plant one for the 5 of you soon! Grow a new one to say thanks to God for sparing all of you. Your baby is getting big...I believe you’re getting a girl this time!

We lost a hundred year old oak tree during Hurricane Katrina that was in our backyard and it was the perfect shade tree. It fell alongside our home but didn’t fall on our home.
