@@davidsmoothington Makes sense. I had a C6 Corvette, where the jump from 3rd to 4th was substantial. The Z06 helped quite a bit by making 1st gear much taller, so 2nd and 3rd could be closer to 4th, which has a 1:1 ratio in all the C6s.

Great driving man, The car is absolutely beautiful, Good job on battling with that Porsche.. he had to been doing 2:02s, absolute props you kept up wit him. I also hope to see you do potential Modifications to the car. 😄
No if I was catching him he likely wasn’t running faster lap times. The car and driver are more than capable of it, just gotta push a little harder. Going back this year and will hopefully have better more consistent brakes which should help me pull some time out
Brakes are stock setup however I have track/racing pads on them. Tires are the OE 200TW Goodyear SuperCar 3 tires, I don't run the SC3R's because they don't last at all and are way more money for not much gain. Cooling mods aren't there it's factory Camaro. I do have a Katech head porting valves pushrods lifters etc along with their cam and American Racing Headers and some intake modifications.
How often do they do these? And how do you find out? I’ll be in Florida from December- end of February. Would love to bring my car with me an drive here
Bullying is such a strong mean word….let’s just say I was “strongly encouraging him to go faster and drive better”. Yes I didn’t have the power he had on the straights but I could catch him in the brake zones and turns almost every time.
Just a few. Mostly a top end rebuild, so heads and cam, also some long tube headers. Seems to make the car a little bit more responsive as it got it up to 500 hp to the rear wheels. If I could do anything else I'd love to drop weight out of it.

Driver just COULDN'T push the envelope. There is a huge difference in braking points and lines through turns between an experience driver who's just taking it easy vs. an inexperienced driver who doesn't know what to do. This Porsche driver didn't know what he was doing. He looks like a beginner, or at least someone very new to this particular track.
It’s a SS 1LE and at this time it had a heads and cam package from Katech in it, since then though the car dropped a valve and I had to replace the motor. However I kept the American Racing long tube headers with high flow cats on it. Always has had the stock mufflers on it. Wheels here are OE wheels, and tires are the GY SC3. Pads here were Hawks but I prefer the Raybestos ST47 as they’re more consistent and last longer.

My reply keeps getting removed. So I'll try again without links.. I had a source showing the ZL1 vs SS 1LE 0-150mph is 18.4vs25.4 secs(16.9 for 911 GT3) and showing a GT3 vs ZL1.. I watch Car WOW so I know 911s are some of the quickest cars in the 1/4. I'm not saying the camaro would be quicker on the straights, but the 7 second quicker time to 150mph would definitely keep the Porsche from pulling away like it does on the SS. Times for Virginia international raceway SS 1LE 2:54:80 ZL1 1LE 2:45:00 911 GT3 2:47:00
@xtnuser5338 That was my point originally, you 2 took it the wrong way. I never said it would make the camaro faster. The Porsche would pull away significantly. Then, he would run him down to have him open a huge gap on the high-speed sections. Maybe i should have said from pulling away so much but in my head I meant it as opening up a huge gap.
Omg I would love to take my car on Daytona...I didn't know that was an option. Curious what top speed I could hit before that hard braking point. I saw 165 on the camaro, wonder what the gt2 was at.
@@dnegel9546 surprisingly enough I've heard that the ZL1 1LE's aren't that much faster on the top end then I am. One would for sure be a few to maybe several mph faster but that GT2 should have been in the 180's and I haven't heard of a ZL1 being that fast.
@@fronkies1LECamaro ya that GT2 RS was probably 180-185 judging by your car at 165. do you have any power mods on your SS? she pulls hard and has good top end for "just" an SS.

Little comedy there for ya. I know the car is way more than capable of just flat out outrunning me. However I kept catching him and he was slowing me down, gets a little frustrating to be slowed down by a faster more capable car in the slower portions of the track.
@@fronkies1LECamaro I started sixteen years ago in a naturally aspirated Exige. I run a GT3RS now. I used to get frustrated when stuck behind a slower driver, but that went away one day. I decided to make a little game out of it. Can I still keep up with him using max 90% of the throttle pedal? 80%? 70%? One weekend my Exige started going into limp mode if I exceeded 4700-rpm. I had broken a cam follower. Not wanting my money to go to waste, I stayed the rest of the weekend and just short shifted at 4500-rpm. Ran five sessions that way. I spent more of my mental attention on braking points, minimizing braking, getting my lines perfect, etc. By the last session I was running within two seconds of my best on a 1.7 mile track. I think I learned more that weekend than any other over the years. When I applied my newfound smooth, precise consistency to the same track a month later, with a fixed engine, I set a new personal best by a second and a half. Not every lap need be a time attack lap. I stopped worrying about how fast I could go RIGHT NOW, and instead focused on improving my repeatable skills and finesse. I believe I improved at a faster rate thanks to flipping that mental switch, and I never got frustrated again.

The Camaro did just fine against this car. The Porsche either has better drive off the corner or a better P/W ratio. Or is just a better driver. The driver of this Camaro seems quite good though.
@@mikesamson1930 The Camaro driver did a _hell_ of a job! It looks like the GT2 driver might have been a bit timid in corners and braking zones.
@@davidsmoothington Makes sense. I had a C6 Corvette, where the jump from 3rd to 4th was substantial. The Z06 helped quite a bit by making 1st gear much taller, so 2nd and 3rd could be closer to 4th, which has a 1:1 ratio in all the C6s.
your lines are really good. She sounds amazing!
Thank you!
I don't know why, but 2010 Flo Rida coming on as you pulled out made me smile really hard 😂
lol
That’s quiet some amazing experience racing on the epic track at night!!
It’s really fun
Mind bending 2:50 you passed a purpose built race car. 😮 what a beautiful track. Some very fine driving Tom good work.
Thank you very much
This is my dream a Camaro track day at Daytona badass man great driving too !
Thanks Jake! Be sure to subscribe to see other tracks I’ve been to. I’ve been to a few and hope to go to more. Plus come October I’ll have more Daytona video that would be better
Love the glowing exhausts of the GT2RS
The power band on that ss is just amazing.
It’s really a fun car. I’m quite happy with the work I did to it as well. Breathes a lot better. Thank you for watching, be sure to subscribe for more!
13:20 It was at this moment, i knew, he was pushin this Camaro to it’s absolute limits. Those downshifts and the way he takes the corners are like Batman chasing joker 💀
Bro I love the downshifts get more and more aggressive as the video goes on☠️
Hahaha that’s funny! Thank you
Hell yeah dude, I got a 02 1LE Firehawk with BMR rear control arms and panhard bar. Nothing pairs better with a strong pushrod v8 then stiff suspension.
I'm building a F-body race car right now. How much camber do you get in that thing where it really handles well?
I feel sorry for those that have never taken a 2016+ camaro SS or zl1 to it’s handling limits.
They are astonishingly good.
Although I think a cammed ss is the ultimate street car, I think if I’m going to be seeing gt2’s on the track, it’s time to get a bolt on zl1 1le.
Katech sells a package to built a 427 LT1, I think if I built that I'd smoke most everything out there.
Great footage. Sounds great too and the Porsche & GT2 are gone at 6:30 and 15:00, 15:40. Nice!
Nice driving man! This was incredible
I appreciate it, thank you!
For just a minuet I thought this was reality WOW Great Graphics And Good driven too!
Hahaha seems I’ve been getting that a lot. Thanks for the compliment and be sure to subscribe, I’ll have more video game content! 🤣🤣🤣
The salamander embryo is one of my favorite tracks.
I wish the Porsche would have let you take the lead through the corners ..... Just so we could watch how fast he would pass you on the high bank, straight away .... I mean, he was gone “like a cool breeze”, every time you guys did a top end pull ...
Only because it weighs less

Glad you enjoyed it!
what are the turn signals for ? is that when they are going to let you pass them?
Let’s the car behind know they can pass safely.
Your car sounds amazing. What is your set up?
heads and cam mostly from Katech along with long tube headers. Full list is in the description. I should make a video of what all I've done. I think that would likely interest a lot of people here. Be sure to subscribe and I'll try to get that posted soon!
Going back this year and will hopefully have better more consistent brakes which should help me pull some time out
What are the mods on your SS? Tires, brakes, cooling mods etc. Also, who hosted the track day?
Brakes are stock setup however I have track/racing pads on them. Tires are the OE 200TW Goodyear SuperCar 3 tires, I don't run the SC3R's because they don't last at all and are way more money for not much gain. Cooling mods aren't there it's factory Camaro. I do have a Katech head porting valves pushrods lifters etc along with their cam and American Racing Headers and some intake modifications.
You pushed that camaro lovely, what was the highest top speed you hit ? Sounds amazing on the downshifts. Good graphic rendering to !
173 was the highest speed I hit. I have it in another video I believe. If not I’ll be sure to add it, be sure to subscribe to catch all my adds.

How often do they do these? And how do you find out? I’ll be in Florida from December- end of February. Would love to bring my car with me an drive here
Go to www.motorsportsreg.com. You can find track events all over the country there.
Why you bullying the poor defenseless Porsche. Also, you were definitely faster in the turns than that GT2 was.
Bullying is such a strong mean word….let’s just say I was “strongly encouraging him to go faster and drive better”. Yes I didn’t have the power he had on the straights but I could catch him in the brake zones and turns almost every time.
Hi
So there is just one thing to say: the guy who drove the gt2 rs should learn to move his car in a german way.....
@@fronkies1LECamaroThe GT2RS wasn’t working hard at all.. he didn’t have too..
Looked like you were eating German dust every time you guys got out onto the high bank ... Just saying
@@jigglydoo you aren't wrong. He had way way more HP than I did. Catching him in the brake zones and corners felt pretty good though.
Very nice racing skills ! Do you have any mods on your 1LE or is it stock ?
Just a few. Mostly a top end rebuild, so heads and cam, also some long tube headers. Seems to make the car a little bit more responsive as it got it up to 500 hp to the rear wheels. If I could do anything else I'd love to drop weight out of it.
@@fronkies1LECamaro Just a few? You have a fbo na setup right there. A few would have been intake and flex fuel tune calling the day. Nice ride and great driving. Are you on stock rubber or little wider with cup2s?
@@al151 Haha, it came out of necessity when I blew the engine when I really only had "just a few" modifications. Nope on stock rubber and stock widths in this video.
Is this SCCA, track time or some other racing group series? Btw, great driving and the car sounds great!
It was an HPDE with the Audi Club out of Ohio.

Great driving! Do you monitor oil temps on track? Curious what you get up to for peak temps in a session like this, particularly when close behind other cars for extended periods.
I do. I use Redline 0W-40 and they never really get too high. But it is a N/A car so it doesn’t heat up as much as a forced induction car.
@@fronkies1LECamaroAre you comfortable recommending a brand and weight for a street DI-turbo car? Like a stock Honda? Not for any other reason than heat management. Damn car gets anemic pretty quick in the Texas summers.
@@snail415 If I were you I'd email Redline Oil. There's a guy there named Dave who's replied to all my comments who's extremely competent on what they offer and what weights/types you should use for various applications. I don't want to recommend anything other than "Redline" oil because I'm not familiar enough with your application and would hate to lead you down the wrong path.
I think that Porsche was going easy on his tires and brakes. Nice skills on your part.
Thank you very much. Lots of practice and seat time.
Great driving, but, that gt2 was just cruising in the corners. You can tell by the massive gap it gave you on the straights yet you would catch up entering the first corner off straight what is nuts is with all the mods you have done, it pulled away hard, those cars are insanely fast) I don't think he is wanting to beat up a couple hundred thousand dollar car , like most of the other drivers, so its respect to you for driving the car what it was made for. You had , for sure the best sounding car and personally your lines, i would say best driver .
Well thank you very much, I do appreciate the compliment.
What exhaust did you install? I have the 2021 SS 1LE with the 6 speed, and want to upgrade the exhaust.
American Racing headers with high flow cats. Those go to the stock mufflers.
@@fronkies1LECamaro Thank you for the info..
Oh please, that Porsche gapped the hell out of him, driver just didn't want to push the envelope. Nice driving tho
What exhaust, wheels, tires and pads is this SS setup with?
It’s a SS 1LE and at this time it had a heads and cam package from Katech in it, since then though the car dropped a valve and I had to replace the motor. However I kept the American Racing long tube headers with high flow cats on it. Always has had the stock mufflers on it. Wheels here are OE wheels, and tires are the GY SC3. Pads here were Hawks but I prefer the Raybestos ST47 as they’re more consistent and last longer.
Thx for the info. That's very unusual to hear and from Katech. Hard to believe that happened. What did they say? Where did the new motor come from?
@@gbass7328 still trying to work with them. I bought a new LT1 crate from Chevrolet.

What org were you running with here?
Was running with the Audi Club out of Ohio, annual event they do at Daytona.
If you hadn't mentioned in the title that you were in a Camaro, I would have thought for sure you were in a Corvette. The front camera view of the hood looks like a corvette C7 maybe, and you were flying!
That is a compliment right there! Thank you!
I live in Florida. How do I get on the track there at Daytona?
www.motorsportsreg.com will show you various events at different tracks.
So what mods do you have on that SS?
Long tube headers is my first guess.
ARH headers, Katech heads/cam, cold air intake LT5 throttle body and a LT2 intake manifold. Few other things but that's the main power adders.
Damn looks like the Camaro has better brakes!
This was sick man. Is there insurance you have on this car that would cover a wreck on a track? Or is this completely at your own risk? I would love to do a track day but the possibility of a wreck makes it so I can't see myself actually doing it
There definitely is insurance. I’ve ran both with and without it before
I'm going to use the sound of that engine as a ringtone
Haha by all means feel free!
Nice track footage. Car sounds great 👍👍
Thank you
The the fact that this is a SS LE not a ZL1 LE is crazy! The extra 200hp would stop the Porsche from pulling away on the straights.
True but that 200hp against a gt3 still wouldn’t be enough especially with the Porsche pdk tranny
No it wouldn't. It would certainly reduce how fast he pulled away, but it wouldn't stop him from doing it.
Times for Virginia international raceway
SS 1LE 2:54:80
ZL1 1LE 2:45:00
911 GT3 2:47:00
@@JoshSTEELERS Isn't that exactly what I said? The ZL1 would highly REDUCE the GT3 pulling away on the straights, but it would not eliminate it.
If you watch some of my other videos I hit 172 mph. I’d guess GT2 was in the 180’s
So nasty how the Porsche pulled away on the straights. The Camaro was just plain awesome to creep up on the braking.
That was the fun part, catching him in the brake zones. Just got frustrating when he wouldn't push it in the corners and slowed me down.
@@fronkies1LECamarodo you think a zl1 1le would of kept up in the straight? (Probably not huh?)
@@dnegel9546 surprisingly enough I've heard that the ZL1 1LE's aren't that much faster on the top end then I am. One would for sure be a few to maybe several mph faster but that GT2 should have been in the 180's and I haven't heard of a ZL1 being that fast.

"Cmon GT2, I thought those things were fast!"... as the Camaro understeers like mad and gets gapped like crazy on the straight to a guy who doesnt seem to know what he's doing. Ouch.
Is this just like a night-time HDPE/track day at Daytona? This is flipping amazing!
