I have this router and I always pass with a standard flute cutter before a dovetail but I'm impressed it managed it without the initial clearing pass! Also very good of you to go back and redo your review after learning more about the adjustment mechanism.
I had the exact same experience and opinion. Many videos make a point to show they're not interested in checking the manufacturers instructions. But your self critique of how easy it is to get it wrong regardless of your experience. Many content makers take themselves far too serious and pointing out your error shows integrity and a load of other great characteristics. In my humble opinion. Thanks for sharing. May God bless you.

When I get to the edge. I air the router off. Wet my finger to wipe the bit, & use a little paintbrush to keep it fresh, & continue. No more burns!
Thanks John, I have this router myself all the other videos I have seen use it incorrectly and complain about the fine adjustment. One chap was on his Fourth Replacement body for the locked fine adjustment issue. great to see it corrected.
Thanks for explaining the fine adjustment in detail. I had my router base raise up mid cut on a round over. I was fine adjusting with it locked. I read you have to open that latch and was worried I blew mine out. You showed the latch adjustment now I’m back in business!
Each of the top three Makita, Milwaukee, and Dewalt each have cordless tools that offer something the other brands don’t. It makes sense to buy a battery/charger combo pack of each of the top three, preferably when one goes on sale. This leaves you free to chose the best cordless tool type in each category. For example you can chose to own, Dewalt Cordless Router, Makita Multi tool and Impact drivers, Milwaukee Hacksawz, or whatever combo has the best price, etc.
Hi John, just a comment about battery size. A 2.0AH battery will work fine in most applications, this battery is much lighter and makes it easier to control. I was having trouble with the micro adjustment control as well. Glad you made this video to help me with this issue. Thx, Reuben.
I was scratching my head about the play I was also experiencing with this router. Turns out I was using it the same way you were. You just gained a new subscriber. Thanks for solving the mystery. Tragedy averted.
Thanks for the helpful review, I can see myself making the same mistake! Suggestion: get yourself a couple of bench dogs. Your work surface is all set up for them with the holes already, and they wont get in the way like the clamps do.
Dude…me too! I’ve had this router for a while but never used it because I didn’t understand why it could still be adjust with the quick release lever closed. I mean, “it worked” but I noticed it was possible that the depth could change during a cut. This video cleared everything up. I reread the instructions, and although it IS in the instructions, it’s not emphasized. I believe they are being sold without being already at a “locked and ready to go” position.
I love it! Not just honest, but humble too. I love Milwaukee M18 tools. I hate Milwaukee battery prices. More often than not the best battery for the tool costs significantly more than the bare tool. But the platform can't be beat for reliability, toughness and power. Can we expect this great little router to appear regularly during the house reno and upgrade projects?
Lol, I'm pointing out the metric system as well, whenever I can, sometimes I even get insulted back. They sure love their inferior system which they themselves can't even understand.
Great review. I recently purchased this router also being in the the M18/M12 lineup. I have not had a chance to use it as I have moved on to other projects that don't require me to buy crazy overpriced lumber. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks again for the review.
I’ve got one of these and only used it a few times and when pushing the spindle lock to stop the head turning when releasing the bit I find it’s not engaging properly and the spanner just turns. Any ideas how to remedy this as it’s out of warranty? Do you know if it can be stripped down? Cherrs
Excellent that you sorted that out I have one on the way in the mail I was wondering if I bought a defective product 👍 Also in the mail is a plunge base and a simple two handled base 😵. Thanks again 👌
I bought a metric bolt to replace the supplied bolt for the edge guide .I could not get the original bolt tight tight enough. Now I can tighten with a wrench.
It would be great to dump the fractions. I remember when they stopped teaching it to us in school. My cool snoopy ruler had metric on one side and imperial on the other. I was just a kid, but I was pretty angry they got rid of metric and stuck with the fractions.... Ironically, they kept teaching Latin, a pretty much dead language. It was the Regan years. Ketchup was considered a vegetable in our lunch program.
For dovetail groove with a trim router, wouldn't you use a straight bit followed by the dovetail bit? That's what I had to do 25 years ago with 500 Watt 6mm collet routers
Absolutely love Milwaukee and all their quality products. My issue is I bought all cordless when I started woodworking and while cordless is convenient to use, some products like tablesaw, orbital sander and router drain batteries on big projects. I’ve bought the largest batteries and didn’t help much on these 3 tools. I’ve since went back to corded since then. So my question to you as a woodworker and master electrician: any way I can create an adapter to feed my cordless Milwaukee tools? Some have told me the 110V system can’t handle the amps a cordless requires. Milwaukee doesn’t have corded tablesaws, so would love an option to use it on my workbench. There is an adapter for Dewalt tools. Would love a video or insight on an adapter. Thanks and keep up the great videos.
So glad i committed to this platform, no disappointments, even the non fuel planer is quality though other non-fuel are not meant to last a lifetime though so be wary. PS: The fuel multitool, brad nailer gen 3, and the legendary Sawzall are rock solid. The little M12 rotary tool is better than Dremel and should last providing you dont stall it in which case it will burn out the mosfets and they are very difficult to replace even with good soldering skills. The M12 soldering Iron is great, but order in some spare 250deg thermal inline cutouts, as they burn out after 50 hours or so.

Good review John, after take 2 ! Good honest explanation and a reminder to us all to RTFM ! Looks like a good piece of kit. Never had a red tool, all of mine are yellow. Can you get them here ? The imperial thing might be a pain but not that much for the type of work you'd do with this reckon. Happy Easter !
And if you have just gone down the Makita line instead of Milwaukee, all would have been perfect in the first place.😉😅 I was building some shelves about 2 months ago and ended up buying the Makita palm router. Anything less than a 4mh battery is a waste of time in any of these tools.
Thx for the review, not gonna buy it. Already owning the 1400 festool, looking for a more compact one. Im not convinced, when i see inches that clearly my mind just says no. Also i think corded is still more powerful. I own a lot of milwaukee battery tools, great for construction, less for accurate work
The insert edit was very useful. I have that little fella and had experienced similar concerns with the locking mechanism so it as good to see I was not alone. I agree 100% about the metrics: I can no longer think in Imperial.
You got a dodgy one....im pulling on mine trying to replicate the movement yours is and simply doesnt move in the slightest. Still a negative since obviously some are being shipped out not in the shape they should.

Hello from America! I like your review! I am a new Subscriber. I hear you on the imperial units scale haha. We are just too stubborn to change.
I see how it is. Instead of me saying I have 9 inches, you say you have 228.6 mm. I see what your doing there. 11 months and not a single like. ✌
Awsome review......
I started watching you when you star your channel, was among first to subscribe, you were actually motivation to start my own woodturning channel.
Thank you for inspiration 😀
John: in most cases, is 0.5mm (1/64" to 1/65") tolerance acceptable in high-end furniture building? BTW, are you a former machinist?
It really depends on the joint and where it is. I'm not a machinist though I'm an Electrician
10:20 that's me, I cracked mine. Don't be like me.
Great review mate. I was thinking about getting one of these.
Glad I could help
Awesome content! Cheers from Newfoundland!
Thanks and hello from Ireland
wee beasty! I love it but don't love the router at all.
Yeah the red tools are readily available here.
@@JohnMcGrathManInShed Right, totally missed them. Blinded by the yellow I suppose but I'm not about to start again !
And if you have just gone down the Makita line instead of Milwaukee, all would have been perfect in the first place.😉😅
I was building some shelves about 2 months ago and ended up buying the Makita palm router. Anything less than a 4mh battery is a waste of time in any of these tools.
No one buys Blue tools anymore, their power sucks ass.
Thx for the review, not gonna buy it. Already owning the 1400 festool, looking for a more compact one. Im not convinced, when i see inches that clearly my mind just says no. Also i think corded is still more powerful. I own a lot of milwaukee battery tools, great for construction, less for accurate work
Haha, they should have put the tightening system on the metric side then you would have seen it. Just kidding thanks for the review.
What was wrong with the first one
I didn't have the correction in it
were still not using the metric system thank god.....
Ear protection but no eye protection?
Keep up with great videos.....
Tight the screw on the clamp it will fix it that.
The insert edit was very useful. I have that little fella and had experienced similar concerns with the locking mechanism so it as good to see I was not alone. I agree 100% about the metrics: I can no longer think in Imperial.
I'm the opposite. I can only reason using imperial.
You got a dodgy one....im pulling on mine trying to replicate the movement yours is and simply doesnt move in the slightest.
Still a negative since obviously some are being shipped out not in the shape they should.
