This bike absolutely blew me away!! So stoked on the Revel brand right now and their incredible CBF suspension. I wish I could do a live stream on this video but with Mothers days this weekend, there just isn't enough time. Would love to talk more about this bike at some point... maybe a live stream later next week?!?! Thanks for watching, enjoy!!
@@logo1628 How could you go wrong with the Rail? or maybe SB140, Mojo HD4, or Switchblade 27.5". So many great bikes, how does someone decide? Gotta ride them all.
I've been enjoying your reviews and thank you for the un-biased advice. I'm 50/50 between this Revel Rail and Yeti SB140. I ride in Vermont and we have to climb a lot of technical climbing to get the down hill runs. Which would you recommend is the best climber? Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
I have a 2020 Remedy. I've actually owned the Remedy since 2018 and Trek warrantied the frame last year with a 2020. I've got the new bike itch. Reality is that in TX, most enduro stuff is relatively pedally and tight. I've looked at the HD5, Scout, Bronson and the SB140. In my area, there is basically 0 chance of demoing any of these bikes. Geometry-wise the Bronson and Rail seem closest to my Remedy. What I like about the Remedy is that it is comfortable, forgiving enough to get me our of trouble and I can still whip it around turns easily enough. Would the jump onto this 165/170 bike feel super huge and sluggish? Reviewers all comment on how well this pedals. Is that a relative thing ... like, it pedals well for a 165mm bike or does it really pedal well enough that I'm not going to feel a huge difference between Remedy and Rail? BTW, my everyday ride is a Ripley v4.
I’ve owned the Revel Rail for just over 6 months now and I love it. I mainly just ride my local trails but wanted something I can take to the park as well. Thanks for the video, you are spot on.
You're not the only fan of this bike....the numbers agree with what your felt. If I were looking to buy a new bike this would be at the top of my list.
Went to my local SC dealer in Anchorage set on ordering a Blur, but rode the Rail and left the shop after ordering a Ranger XX1 AXS! Current bike is a 99 superlight that I bought new and upgraded the front and rear shocks over the years. Had all the RaceFace components including the carbon inserts on the cranks. Anyway the Ranger will be my last bike for the next two decades.
You'll love it. Been my favorite hip pack so far. It is minimalist, but holds what I need it to. I ended up putting a tube in the bottle holder on the right side as I rarely need two bottles. Kept things from being so crammed in the zippered compartments.
I like this bike. I wonder if a shorter fork, maybe 150mm to quicken steering & angle, coupled with more rear spacers & quicker ramp-up moving it more toward XC than Enduro, might add to the fun factor?
Nice review, and I'd add the Mach 6 to the comparison. Debated that along with this Rail and Nomad. Debate came down to the threaded bottom bracket on the Revel vs using my LBS and going Pivot. Both great bikes, thx for the review!
I was between this and a Firebird 27.5 but ended up picking up a used FB for a great price. I've been sold on the FB ever since you reviewed it and usually use that as your benchmark for downhill performance. Ill be using mine for bike park and shuttling

I currently have a Nomad N3. This rail has the same amount of travel with the N3. How do they compare to each other? Currently torn between this and the new bronson. :)
Both the rail in the new Bronson have a ton more mid-stroke support versus The Nomad 3. I owned the Nomad 3 for a time and it's an incredibly fun and playful long travel bike however I've heard the only way to make that bike ride good through the middle of the travel is with the coil
MTB yumyum Thanks Jason. I did order the new dhx2 for my N3 from a local bike shop. waiting for it to arrive and looking forward to try it. As for the rail and Bronson, seems like both are good options. By the way, I really love your bike reviews. Your review of the N3 actually helped me decide to go for it last time, and really happy about it.
Hello MTB yumyum, thx for your job, your videos are amazing. I'm really hesitating between the YT Jeffsy 27.5 and the Revel Rail. I'm not a real charger, I just enjoy to ride my bike, doing some enduro and also hight alpine trails 1000+ elevation meter and 1000- (i'm living in france). The most important for me is to enjoy my bike, have a lot of fun, play with the ground. One of my highlight was the pivot mach 5.5 bike. Wich bike would you recommand ?
If you liked the pivot Mach 5.5, you'll absolutely love the Revel Rail. Has so much more character and pop and playfulness to it versus the boring 4-bar horst link suspension of the YT bikes
@@mtbyumyum Thx for your answer, I'm scare (may be I'm totally false) the rails will be much difficult as the Jeffsy to pedal 1000m vertical drops ? What do you think ? I never race, really just enjoy my ride. cheers , Jordan
I'm not a huge fan of YTs due to their very progressive suspension! If you put a coil shock on a Jeffsy then it would improve it in some ways, but you lose the adjustability that comes with an air and add weight.
I haven't ridden the Revel Rascal or the Rail back to back with a YT jeffsy but I can pretty confidently tell you the Jeffsy doesn't climb any better then that Revel Rail given the same Tire combo.
@@mtbyumyum Hi thx for your answer and kindness, You are always such a nice and huge help when it come to buy a new bike ^^ In the video you compare the Rocky mountain Altitude and the Rail, does the Rail feel a lot bigger ? what would be the similarity/differences between this two bike ? May be the rocky would be more for non agressive rider like me, or I'm also false ? :)
Hi Jason. Just picked up a rascal with a 150 lyrik. It's awesome. I'm your same size and weight and am wondering what suspension settings you are running. Thanks
How would you compare it with other bikes in ascending, will the front wheel rise? The geo seems not to be very modern.Good climbing up the hills is very important for me, on my trails it‘s more 60 minutes up and 5 minutes down.
Sounds like your trails are similar to mine. Straight up and then hammer on your way back down. The climbing is very good on this bike. I would say it's right there with the best of any bike in the 150 + 27.5 wheel size category
That's so funny you call this a Mercedes. I've always secretly thought of my Ripmo as a BMW M3. Once Revel comes out with a long travel 29er, I'm sold!
I'm a die hard 29er guy, but I demoed the Rail on a 26 mile downhill trail in Tucson, first time on 27.5 wheels, and honestly there's a reason for the smaller wheel size. Big travel that's still nimble is quite sick. I would just trust them that it's fantastic and get the Rail.
I talked to a guy on the trail today on a Rascal and he said he saw a guy test riding a Revel "Rival" back in Colorado who said it's almost ready for release. 29" 160mm rear, 170-180 front. Said the guy almost out-climbed him! Supposed to "Rival" the best climbing 29" as well as the best downhill 29". I can't wait!
Your Videos are absolutely helpful. You give plenty of good information about the bikes you test. Maybe you can add also the information about the certain fork offset and stem length of the bikes in your test. I believe that the charcter of the bike changes noticeably with different offset. I don't know if every 27.5" enduro bike comes with short offset. I just know that my girlfriends custom built nomad, switches very agressive into the turns with 45mm stem and 46mm offset. But i don't have a comparison with 37mm offset.
Thank you! I don't get into the real scientific nerdy aspects of the bike review. I just try to give people the idea of what the bike feels like what is characteristic sorry what it compares to other bikes in the category for those who don't have access. Thanks!
I'd listen to a live stream. May not get it live but would definitely catch it when I could (live would be best). How'd it compare to the Rascal? Big difference in the climb or other areas? (btw that Rascal blue was stunning)
Would you mind to tell me how the rock shock compared to the fox. I currently have a rascal with A pike on it and I really feel like the fork is holding it back. Thinking about switching over to 140 mm 36 that the new bikes are option with now.
Gotta just jump them Jacob's Jibbies. Watch each of Jason's videos riding Jacob's Ladder about 8-10 times and then you'll be able to do it with an N95 mask over your eyes.
I want to try a 27.5 bike (I’ve actually only ever ridden 26 or 29) and I was wondering if u thought the pivot Firebird 27.5 version is still a relevant option. They don’t make them anymore so u can get a pretty killer deal on Pinkbike. Would u recommend or do u have other suggestions?
I guess it just depends on your budget. I love the original Firebird. I think it's still relevant today however I would imagine pivots coming out with a replacement at sometime sooner than later. This Revel Rail is certainly worth looking at as well
Sorry, not sure why I didn't see this comment 2 days ago. Comparing the Revel rail to the yeti SB 140, the yeti feels a bit more harsh where the rail will feel more Supple through like breaking bumps or chundury areas of trail at high speed. Surprisingly the sb140 with much less rear suspension feels almost as composed and stable and has that big bike safety feeling almost more so than even the rail. I remember riding the Ibis HD 5 and the yeti SB 140 back-to-back and was surprised the Ibis felt more playful and nimble
Do you have a couple of Fav 27.5 trail bikes for intermediate riders that pedal well but still have around around 140 travel? The Ripmo V1 is awesome in that it pedals so well, geo is nice but not crazy and it doesn't punish you for overbiking a bit. Looking for something similar for my wife (she's 5-4 and wants to stick with 27.5). Do you have a couple of bikes that come to mind?
Yeah, the Evil Calling, Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt are both lively and fun. The Ibis Mojo 3 also comes to mind and climbs a little better than the others... good luck!
Hey Jason! That’s Jacobs Ladder! Rad! Question for you: The Rail29 just came out-how would you compare it to the Ibis Ripmo? Am I crazy to think that it could unseat the Ripmo, which seems to have dominated the top MTB list for years? I’m debating which to buy so need some advice.
climb3r18 for Full Enduro racing I would suggest the new Wreckoning V3! But btw the Insurgent and the Rail I think the Rail is a much better all around bike! I had to bring down my Fox 36 to 150mm to be able to climb better, but looks like the Rail a out of the gate with 170 on front and 165 on the back climbs much better than the Insurgent and the descents are pretty similar
Edgar Gz Thanks for the feedback. I am considering the Wreckoning too, but really need to get out and demo these on my local trails. I’m currently on a 5010 V4 and loving its nimble playful nature and smaller wheels.
Hey I don’t know why but , when I was watching you. The way how you were talking about this bike In my opinion you made it really clear that it’s a good bike , for sure, but. I don’t see you really excited. When you were talking about ibis Ripley or tallboy 4 you were super excited 😆 that’s is my opinion . So my question is . What do you really prefer the ibis or tallboy or the revell?
I'm changing the way I do reviews a little bit. Maybe you've noticed that I have less talking when I'm riding in the POV clips. Also, I had this bike for a week before I finally did the actual filming. Some of the excitement and Novelty had worn off I think over five or six days of riding it. The Ripley and cowboy 4 videos were more of a first impression I made the video moments after my initial ride or I was talking in the POV filming while I was riding it for the first time.
The Rail feels bigger than the Altitude for sure but I just was reminded how much I liked that bike for it's user friendly trail manners... the Rail is special for sure... feels like a big bike when you're haulin the mail but still very good slower speed trail manners.
similar in terms of overall bottomless feel, stability and general composure. Rail feels better in the chunder particularly when needing to change directions, slow down or really harsh (larger rocks) the nomad feels like a sled on the slower speed trails while the Rail still feels pretty agile and maneuverability even at slightly slower speeds.
Hi, great review. How did this bike compare to the Ibis Ripmo for you? Which would you like to ride if you were leaning towards enduro racing? Thank you and keep up the good work.
What makes you love this bike so much more than the Capra? Similar geo, spec and purpose for almost $3k less. Did the ride feel come down to the wheel size difference? Keep up the great videos 👍
I really don't have much of a problem with the Capra right it has its place in the world but if you are to compare it against the rail I think I like just about everything better.
Nice, Jason. So I'm wondering.. do you favor 29 or 27.5? I know travel plays a factor of course, but just curious your general thoughts if you had to pick one wheel size for your trails.
Really depends on the terrain. Most of the time I prefer the 29 but on the rowdiest trails, even though the 27.5 can get hung of a bit or wheel trapped at slower speeds, I just have more confidence with the smaller wheel. Again, particularly when navigating through slower speeds, very sketchy steep bits...
If you were building up an enduro bike and money wasn’t an issue. Are you going Fox 36/38 or the Lyrik Ultimate? And why? This is the decision I’m trying to make lol.
I've heard good things about the new 36 and 38.... I had no problem with the previous Grip2 36... I recently built a Revel Rascal with a 150mm Lyrik Ultimate... after two weeks, still getting it dialed...
Maybe not quite as poppy feeling. More of a bottomless feel while still having good mid stroke support. Maybe not quite as quick as the HD5 in the slow speed turns. Both are very good!! I could be happy with either!
@@mtbyumyum is the Rail’s climbing position just not as good as the Altitudes? I love how Rockies descend. Some bikes get twitcher the faster you go, but my Thunderbolt feels so composed no matter the speed. Is the Rail similar in the high speeds to the Altitude? Have a great day Yum Yum!
Sorry to post this on this video but I would love to hear your opinion. Im stuck between two bikes and I know you have spent good time on both. The SB140 vs pivots mach 5.5. I live in NW florida so I do a lot of pedaling but There is some decent hills drop offs and jumps in my local trails. The mountains are a weekend trip away so I will be using the bike for all sorts of riding. Ill always have a hardtail in my garage too for those all day journeys. So, I love the 27.5 with the wider 2.5/2.6 which I think both bikes have. Im a heavier rider, 6’ - 250lbs, so I have to keep the bikes leverage ratio in mind, but really want a bike that is playful and just all around fun. I missed both local demos from either brand and my LBS sold their demo bikes for the season already. Im planning a trip for a weekend to try both of the bikes but still love to hear what you have to say. I love your videos and reviews and thank you for taking the time to put all the effort into them and your in depth descriptions! Keep it up and I hope you find this comment!
Great comparison of bikes gives me an absolute that frame represents my sweet spot, and you only did confirm my confidence to buy, otherwice im 5``8(179cm), and those measures fit me the most off all the frames availaible out the :D :D yeeehaw ;)
I'm always curious why this is an issue for some? Having owned several bike with cables below the bb and ridding my bike literally almost every day for decades, I've never had a problem or even known of anyone who's experienced a problem with the cables below the bb. Yet, I've had several people mention this. Thanks
Same here. I’ve had a bike with cables run like that for over 2 years, and it hasn’t been a problem whatsoever. It’s a non issue for 99.99% of people I’d imagine.
By Mercedes Benz of bikes do you mean a high price tag for about 100k miles of a decent ride until it becomes more expensive to repair than it's worth?
Jason, it´s good to see video`s from you again! Would really love to see acouple video`s from you on Emtb`s! Something like a Merida 8000-10k, SC Heckler, Spez Levo or maybe even a Shuttle! They decend suprisingly well!

Looking for something similar for my wife (she's 5-4 and wants to stick with 27.5). Do you have a couple of bikes that come to mind?
Yeah, the Evil Calling, Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt are both lively and fun. The Ibis Mojo 3 also comes to mind and climbs a little better than the others... good luck!
Could you do a review of the Fezzari la sal peak? I’d love to see how it compares to some of the other long travel 29ers that you have reviewed.
How does it compare to the pivot mach 6?
how would you compare this to the Santa Cruz Bronson V2 (which is what I am currently riding) and the V3 Bronson, Thanks
How does the Revel compare to a Banshee Rune V3?
So what’s your thoughts on the Lyrik fork compared to Fox?
Both good options. The Lyrik feels a little smoother to me... I'd be happy with either but given the choice, Lyrik for me. Very supple off the top
Sir good day. Can you please make a review for rurok halcon bike (made in ph). Tnx
Haven’t had a chance to look up the rail29…. I like cbf tho🤘
great to have another review from you - you have been too quiet lately
Yeah, I'd like to upload more but I'm super busy. Thank you!
@@mtbyumyum no worries bro - just good to see you out there - stay safe
Switching to The Rail from the Evil Insurgent, really excited to be able to have a better climbing experience.
What are your thoughts on the two? Those are two bikes that I’m considering for some beginner to intermediate enduro racing
climb3r18 for Full Enduro racing I would suggest the new Wreckoning V3! But btw the Insurgent and the Rail I think the Rail is a much better all around bike! I had to bring down my Fox 36 to 150mm to be able to climb better, but looks like the Rail a out of the gate with 170 on front and 165 on the back climbs much better than the Insurgent and the descents are pretty similar
climb3r18 by the way I will use the Rail as my Trail/Enduro bike and build my Insurgent as my DH bike with heavy wheels and switch it to X-Low
Always good to hear ‘Mach Chicken’!
You got that right!
Does that Mercedes have a cup holder? Or two? For a trail bike I gotta have two

I've been pondering a RM Altitude based upon your stellar review and now this? So many great choices these days.
The Rail feels bigger than the Altitude for sure but I just was reminded how much I liked that bike for it's user friendly trail manners... the Rail is special for sure... feels like a big bike when you're haulin the mail but still very good slower speed trail manners.
How is the descent compared to a Santa cruz nomad n4?
similar in terms of overall bottomless feel, stability and general composure. Rail feels better in the chunder particularly when needing to change directions, slow down or really harsh (larger rocks) the nomad feels like a sled on the slower speed trails while the Rail still feels pretty agile and maneuverability even at slightly slower speeds.
@@mtbyumyum thank you for the reply!
Hi, great review. How did this bike compare to the Ibis Ripmo for you? Which would you like to ride if you were leaning towards enduro racing? Thank you and keep up the good work.
Any plans for a review on a 2020 Norco Sight 29?
Upping the production values with music!
I wish I would just spend a little extra time on every video... this was 4+ hours of editing...
Great 👍 video brother ..hope to see the new Evil Following version 3 .. now 120 rear and pike 120 💖
Thank you!
@@mtbyumyum Agreed. I'd also love to get your take on the new Evil Following.
Yes let’s see the new following please
How would you compare it to the Ibis HD5?
Maybe not quite as poppy feeling. More of a bottomless feel while still having good mid stroke support. Maybe not quite as quick as the HD5 in the slow speed turns. Both are very good!! I could be happy with either!
how tall is the rider on the Large ? how did he feel ? I'm 6 ft. friends say I look too big on a large hahaha.
Bailey is 6'
I’m waiting for the 29 version. Hopefully, soon.
Bingo! Would be unreal🤘
This bike was on my short list of 27.5 bikes. Basically between the Rail and the HD5. Crazy deals on the HD5 right now so I went that route.
Great review Jason 🚴😎 hope you are all keeping safe over the Pond 😉👌🚴🚴
Thank you!
Nice video and in depth review as always !
Much appreciated!
Which would you pick? Rail or Altitude?
Altitude geo is better but I can totally understand wanting that CBF suspension.... it's good stuff!!
Hey Jason, Is there an affiliate link for that fox jersey?
just click any of the links below my videos and you can find the jersey there. Good luck! Thanks!
I find the Rascal bobby but I probably should have gotten a Ranger.
I'd take a Camry over either of those any day of the week. Bike looks great though, thanks for the review.
would be great if you tested a forbidden druid
Better than the Ripmo ???
Different. It would be fun to ride them back to back.
Test some Devinci's!
I want a Rascal, thanks for the review!
Me too!!
Great comparison of bikes gives me an absolute that frame represents my sweet spot, and you only did confirm my confidence to buy, otherwice im 5``8(179cm), and those measures fit me the most off all the frames availaible out the :D :D yeeehaw ;)
Love the design of this bike except for that deal breaker of cable running below the BB.
Rail vs Nomad!
Id go w the Rail
MTB yumyum wow, high praise!
I'm pretty blown away by this little brand out of Colorado
If they made a 150 160mm 29er I'm sold
Seriously! You and everyone else. I'm sure it's in the pipeline for this brand they would be crazy not to
Why would I buy this over a Ripmo AF?
I'm not sure you would. Ride them both and see what you think. I'd personally take the Rail but ymmv
By Mercedes Benz of bikes do you mean a high price tag for about 100k miles of a decent ride until it becomes more expensive to repair than it's worth?
Interesting, no not like that at all haha more like incredible attention to detail inside and out, perfectly balanced, high-powered work of art🤘🤙
Jason, it´s good to see video`s from you again!
Would really love to see acouple video`s from you on Emtb`s! Something like a Merida 8000-10k, SC Heckler, Spez Levo or maybe even a Shuttle!
They decend suprisingly well!
You have a timely comment here sir! I'm planning on doing two or three e-bike reviews in the next month or two starting with the Santa Cruz heckler, giant reign, Rocky Mountain Instinct and the Cannondale offering
Thanks for this review, super helpful. Hoping to pick one up shortly and you solidified my choice!
I like how your buddy the owner of Salt Cycles finds it to be cool to park not only in a no parking fire zone but also on the sidewalk/pedestrian zone.
This was after hours just stopped to grab something from the shop for me real quick.... no stress
Mercedes of bikes? So it looks nice but breaks down constantly?
So by Mercedes, do you mean it’s great at the beginning, but expect it break down later like the German car? 😂 😂 😂
Haha i was worried people would draw on that... nope. I was referencing the attention to detail, high quality product
MTB yumyum all good, I believe that the Revel and Rascal are both great bikes! Great video as always!
So poor now. Cant afford park pass. Everything collapsing.
#coronalife
yumyum
yeah buddy!!
Bad sss
Mercedes is; absolute junk, garbage, high maintenance, depreciates more than any other, a poser status symbol. Dang man you just insulted REVEL.
What makes you love this bike so much more than the Capra? Similar geo, spec and purpose for almost $3k less. Did the ride feel come down to the wheel size difference? Keep up the great videos 👍
