@@brucehumphries6889hey. Using the previous gen epic evo as a reference…the lightest epic evo you could find add 2.2 lbs. that’s the lightest a ranger could be. (Meaning All parts the same…Ranger frame is 2.2 lbs more than previous epic evo. Prob only a pound more than new epic evo.) with all that. I’d say 24 lbs the lightest with flimsy xc tires.
Picked up a Ranger and after only two days of riding can confirm that everything said here is 100% on point. CBF is unreal. The bike slays berms and for the low angle , twisty , moments of flat out high speed single track I ride it is so sick. 5'10 and picked up a medium - for my trails it is perfect sizing. Definitely glad I didn't get a large.
@@mtbyumyum placed my order the same day this vid dropped and watched this vid so many times I lost count in the days my bike was in transit. So so stoked! Now you have me wanting to swap to Fox ha.
I agree with you 100% on CBF! I bought a V2 Rascal frame this year and it's unreal.....although, there was an adjustment period after running Ibis DWLINK for more than 12 years on various models as it's such a different feeling but I got it in July and have almost 500 miles on it with roughly 500k' of climbing on rocky, rooty, New England Singletrack and I don't know if I can ever leave CBF now!
Yep! CBF is very unique… almost like the air pressure in the tires are low.. loads of traction, bottomless feel and supple while still feeling poppy. It’s crazy!
Yeah, I'm very excited about the CBF platform, might easily be the most efficient bike I've ever owned although the Stumpy is great for its category. I'm most curious to return to a steeper HA--it's been a decade since I've ridden anything in the XC world so we'll see how the relearning goes. Bummer is, it'll probably be delivered before the holiday but may not get a leg over it for a couple months. OUCH!
My first ride on a Ranger and I thought Hovercraft. It is amazing how it gobbles up chatter. I have rode a ton of bikes and agree with you 100% that the rear suspension is in a league of it’s own
I absolutely love my V1 Ranger! Totally agree with what you said. It's not the fastest xc race bike, but it is 100% the most fun bike that I own! I grab this bike a majority of the time when heading out for a ride.
It's so fun to see people are really enjoying the Ranger, it is definitely one of the most fun bikes in its category... it's also nice to go out for a ride and not see everyone else riding your same bike... Santa Cruz, Specialized, Trek...
I live up here in Canada, I was looking at Revel bikes in my local bike shop (Chainline Cycle in Kelowna). Looking at the bikes in person, I have to say Revel make some beautiful bikes, really impressive attention to detail and I love the innovation spirit they have. Thanks for another great and authentic bike video.
Hey Adam, I'm also in Kelowna. I've ridden a few Revel models and currently own a Revel Rail 29 purchased from Chainline last year and absolutely love it. I've owned many different bikes and suspension platforms from Switch Infinity, DW Link, Delta Link, High Pivot, and various 4 Bar designs. Some really great bikes but none of them have that unique, deep, plush, supportive feeling that CBF offers. Definitely a bit of a dark horse in the suspension design world and doesn't get the accolades it should.
Great review. 100% agree with everything you said about the ranger. I have owned one for 2.5 years now. I own different bikes. None match the smoothness of the rangers CBF. My initial build was 24.5 lbs. I changed to more trail like tires and bigger rotor on back. Same fox fork 34 SC and fox shox. Mix of sram xx1 and x01 with roval control SL wheels. Bike just under 25 lbs now. The bike is quick to maneuver/ change direction, always feel like I have traction. Ranger is easy to pull up into jumps and also bounce off rocks and roots and things. Your body position is more xc than trail. But you could raise the bars and compensate if you wanted. My other bikes are a giant trance x (excellent trail bike) and fuel exe. With that being said CBF is better than all. I dare say with all other main short travel bikes going full blown trail, the ranger is the best short travel bike now. Hands down. (Especially when FUn is your main factor)
Wow, thanks for sharing. Your Ranger sounds awesome! It's difficult to describe the CBF suspension feel but it's very unique and I think anyone who tried it back to back with other bikes in the category would quickly recognize the difference.
@@skinny8019 another great bike (Rascal) but I found it a bit heavy and also the climbing was good but nothing special, descending very stable and soaks up the terrain very well so no problems there
I’m glad you brought this up. The Ranger is very similar to the old 115. Both very fun incredible bikes! In fact, before I bought the V4 Ripley, the SB115 was my favorite bike to ride…. The ranger is so similar
@ Good to know, thanks! Funny, I bought the SB115 for my NICA rider at your suggestion and I’ve come to like it better than my Following v3. It’s not as burly and can’t plow like the Evil, but if you want to put some laps in here in Northern Utah, it is hard to beat. Now that my kid is done racing, I wonder if the Ranger could replace both. 🤔 And Revel’s prices are crazy right now! Cheers! 🙌
Yeah, not sure the Ranger could do Evil The Following duties but with the right tires and build maybe get close... as you said, that bike (for a 120mm travel bike) plows!
I’m so glad to hear you review a bike I actually own! Just picked up a V1 frame a couple of months ago. Really enjoying this bike. Mine has the older fox shock and I took a half pound hit by going with an Ohlins RXF34 (compared to a SID or 34 SC). Came in right at 26 lbs with an Enve wheelset. Such a fun bike to ride. Just encourages you to keep the speed up!
Nice! Yep, the Ranger is a pretty neat bike... I really do think the new Fox Float shock is a game changer for any short travel bikes.... for sure a better feel than the previous Fox DPS
The new fox float shock requires much less air pressure than the previous dps shock and creates a much more open and damp feeling… less “sprung” feeling.
Real quick Jason, you wrote this is the most FUN in this category, well what about the next category up, did you still take CBF or..? For me has not about ego, I outgrew that in my twenties, it's about fun! Not to be confused with thrill, if I want thrill like fast downhill and big jumps I'll jump on the 350, now I'm just doing it for the joy and this bike seems to bring that out in your videos more than just about any other. So can we go up one category and still have the fun Factor while being more capable or do we even need to?
Had mine for 2yrs. Selling for an ASR soon. I’ve done it all in the Ranger. Push 11-6, Cane Creek IL Air (which is amazing) and even a Pike 130 at one point.
Yeah, it takes some money to get the ranger below 26 pounds. I could totally understand why someone (you) would want to go with something like the ASR or scalpel or even the epic. It’ll be a different riding experience for sure… I try not to look at different bikes as good or bad or better or worse. They’re just different. I’ve loved riding the scalpel and asr as much as I have this season but man, it was refreshing to spend the last week and a half on this ranger. It’s a special bike!
What??!?! I just bought a new Scalpel based on your review and now the Ranger is more fun??!!! Just kidding, I love my Scalpel and it is so fast, fun, and capable it is getting me in trouble. The Ranger sounds like a great bike too. Thanks again for another great review, keep up the great work!
Haha, yeah, the Ranger is a fun one! It's different than the Scalpel.... to put your mind at ease, the Scalpel is the Porsche GT3 and the Ranger is the Porsche 911... not sure that's the best example but without going to deep, I think that's a worthy comparison. I spent more time on the Scalpel this season than any other bike... just check my Strava history: www.strava.com/athletes/2904628
How would you compare this to something like a Pivot Trail 429? For a heavier rider (200+ lbs). Just for an all-around trail bike, no racing or downhill parks. I just like to cover a lot of ground & want something peppy up the climbs.
The T429 feels like a bigger bike. Not as nimble or quick feeling. The Ranger is much more like the Mach4 sl in the Pivot lineup. How a bike works for you as an “all arounder” is different for everyone… comes down to your speed terrain and riding style. For most people I see out on the trails, riding at more moderate speeds, the Ranger would be an excellent “all arounder” and would be a lot of fun!!
@@mtbyumyum @kramonut Totally agree. I bought a second-hand V1 Ranger in a 'brunch build' spec (superdeluxe ultimate and Pike 130) and it's a hoot. Still super lightweight and it brings trails to life that I've mostly ridden on much longer travel bikes, but it does reach its limit when things get really steep or rough (I need to go slower and pick my lines), but the rear of the bike is so good that I'm tempted to go to a 140mm airspring in the Pike to help it keep up (most of my local trails are also fairly steep, so that's a consideration). But geez it's a fun, quiet bike that always wants me to go faster, and in the burlier build it's lighter and more agile than a Pivot Trail, and almost as capable. Thanks for the review.
Another bike I came close to getting, the last version anyway. But it was heavy, had 18 bearings in the suspension alone, steep HTA. Who knows probably would have loved it. Such a good looking bike though.
Sweet bike! Looks fun! Question off topic tho, what size briskers you have on? We look about the same size. I want to order a pair but not sure the size. Ty!
Medium... and I wear them any time the weather shows below 50 degrees... I also have a pair of Large that I use when it's really cold and use a thin fleece clover under the briskers
Curious on your take where the Rail 29 got it wrong but this hit the spot right. CBF not as effective as a longer travel bike, setup, or identity crisis for the bike? Enjoy your reviews, keep the content coming.
Great question. Was just talking about this with a friend yesterday… 155mm of cbf felt like much more on the Rail. Despite several attempts, the suspension felt too squishy and deep or vague… bike felt like it needed a bit more wheelbase than what it had. Hard to say for sure but for me, my speed and riding style it was a bit of a miss. Too bad really, I was so excited for that bike and really got along with the 27.5 Rail before it. Maybe Revel comes out with a longer travel MX bike🤷♂️
Jason , how would compare the SC Tallboy to the Ranger . I owned a pivot trail 429 for a while and always thought it was lacking something. I mean it climb fairly well and went downhill pretty decent for a short travel. I don’t think it handled the tight twisty cornering as well as the others. I guess I’m looking for the perfect bike like everyone else.. love your reviews . Keep up the great stuff . Thanks again
@@timhill1359 I’ve ridden both , the SC Tallboy imo isn’t great at either climbing or descending which sounds strange but true, it’s also heavy considering what it’s built for, The Ranger also feels a bit heavy but it’s more stable on the descents , climbing it’s definitely better than the TB and it’s rarer to see one on the trails , looks-wise the Revel is also better and more unique imo 👍🏾
If you've owned the T429 than I'll use that as the measuring stick... The Tallboy is more similar the the T429 only the T429 climbs better and feels more zippy. The Ranger feels like a shorter travel bike.... the wheelbase feels much shorter and gives it a slightly more nervous or twitchy feeling at higher speeds compared to the Tallboy and T429. That's also what makes the bike so special... although it has a sort of nervousness to it, the suspension feels plush and deep. I really think it's the geo brings the Ranger to life and gives it this incredible fun to ride experience. The longer travel Revel Rail for example can feel a bit dull and vague compared to other bikes in the long travel category because the CBF sus system is so good. Hope this helped...
Great review and thanks for taking the time to make them! Question, I have a Ranger V2, love it, no intention of getting rid of it. Can you see any reason to own that and a Yeti ASR? Thinking of adding one for some potential racing but I’m also in my 40s ha! Thanks!
Everyone situation is different but for me, I wouldn’t own both those bikes at the same time. If you ended up buying the ASR, I’m pretty sure you would end up selling the Ranger at some point and moving onto something with more travel. They cover the same type of ground, but just do it differently. You would be better serve with an ASR and then something like the Rascal unless you really have absolutely no need for more travel… good luck! Honestly, the Ranger works for people who only own one bike at a time and want something that’s quick and efficient, but not a full-blown cross country type feeling Bike… or the person that just really values the ride experience over the efficiency of a short travel bike.
@@mtbyumyumthank you for your reply and thoughts, very helpful! You nailed my situation spot on ha! Like you, my favorite bike has been the Ripley V4, the Ranger is the closest I’ve found to it and for me actually feels faster. I’ve had a couple longer travel bikes and I just never really enjoy them so I always gravitate towards the short travel bikes. I like to have two but it’s completely unnecessary. I like the idea of the ASR but just not sure it’ll be different enough. Thanks again!
@@wja19 How would you say the Ranger compares to the Ripley, both up and down? I own a Large Ripley V4, but I find the STA a little bit too steep, puts too much weight on my hands and the saddle can hit the back of my thighs when sprinting. I want something similar with just a bit more ETT.
@ hey, it’s interesting because I find the Ranger is probably slightly better both up and down but it’s close. What I like about the Ranger STA is that for me, my weight isn’t in my hands but it allows me to put my weight over the front of the bike when I need/want too. The Ranger feels slightly more composed going down hill when technical but the bikes really are both great. It took me a long time to let go of my Ripley but ultimately I just found the Ranger to be so darn fun. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the video-review. I have been riding a Ranger for the past two years and really like it. The rear suspension is really well dampened, never need to use the lockout for climbing. I have the Rockshox suspension, and feel the Fox is better, you will get more travel out of it, but that is a personal preference as I am fine with the SID front and rear. Liked this bike so much (CBF suspension), I bought a Rail for my wife.
Glad you're loving the CBF suspension! I think so many people out there have no clue what they’re missing out on. Especially people on single pivot bikes or horst Link bikes…. They really have no idea what they’re missing.
Jason-- You've created yet another dilemma for me. You actually got me to call Chris! Bought a '22 Stumpy Expert a few yrs. ago. Great all-around bike but I just can't get the Trail429 out of my head--THEN I watch this Ranger review... I ride mostly xc-ish terrain, I'm 63 so I'm not sending it much at all but occasionally do some true "mountain" riding. So... go with the T429 for the pinnacle bike in the category (sell the Stumpy) OR... add a fun, totally pimped Ranger--AXS, yum-yum carbon wheels (I've never ridden C wheels) XC/trail bike and keep the Stumpy for the more heavier days? I'm not crazy about collecting bikes but the Ranger is SO intiguing for the riding I do MOST of the time. And the current sale price is crazy! ???
Fun!! New bike day! Well, if you think the Ranger would work well for your terrain, speed and riding style, I could not recommend it more! It’s unique in every way, like nothing else! The CBF suspension system is excellent! And you will love the yum yum carbon wheels! Congrats!
@mtbyumyum Complex bike choice question for ya. I've got a V4 Ripley in Large. I'm 6'1" and could have gone XL, but I wanted it to feel more nimble and playful. It feels great going down, but because the STA is so steep, when I'm in the saddle I feel a lot of weight on my arms, my knees are not loving the forward position over the BB, and when I sprint on the flat the saddle can hit the back of my thighs. So, want to lengthen the ETT a little bit and get behind the BB a little bit without going to a bike with a longer wheelbase and losing the nimble feeling. I am trying to decide between swapping it for a Revel Ranger or a Pivot Mach 4SL. (Or getting a setback dropper for my Ripley.) What would you say are the main differences between the Ranger and the Mach 4? Which is more "poppy"? Which is a better climber? Which is a better descender? NB: I live in the Alps where trails are STEEP.
I would say the Mach 4 SL is the better climbing bike. Both are a lot of fun, lively feeling although I'd say the Ranger is more poppy feeling. The Ranger is also the more "unique" feeling bike and the rear end just feels nice and smooth. The Mach 4 SL feels more sporty. Good luck!
@@mtbyumyum Been watching your channel for years now and I can safely say your top 3 bikes in no particular order The Ibis Ripley The Pivot Trail 429 Yeti Sb 140 !😂
The Ranger wouldn't be progressive enough for me. I like short travel bikes with a longer wheelbase. Would like to see you review the new 2025 Rocky Mountain Element? Thanks for all the great reviews.
It’s so funny, I honestly didn’t even realize I was pushing my Smith glasses back up on my eyes so many times until I switched to these Nollys. They’re money👌
@mtbyumyum does the new Ranger climb as well as the Ripley V4? I tried the Ranger a couple years ago and liked the downhill but thought the climb was much better on the Ripley.
what stem are you using? I know you like the enve M6 bar but that does not look like an enve stem. Also, no BERD wheels? What magic do these new wheels hold? Lastly, what about slapping a 130 fork on that thing to get the Headtube angle into the 66 deg range?
It’s the alloy enve stem. The carbon enve is bucks😬 No Berds… theyre a bit more expensive so I went with the regular spokes to save some money on this build. Not really sure what to think about a 134 on this bike. The only thing I thought of was maybe getting the standard fox 34 on the front instead of the step cast. Even then, I’m not sure it would make that big a difference. I worry going 130 would make the seat tube angle a bit slack🤷♂️
Would love to have seen you ride a Guerrilla Gravity Trail Pistol. Super fun bike. Built in CO near the Revel, similar geo, granted it's just a horst link, but I love mine and would love to see how you think it compares to similar builds. Love the reviews!
@5gvaccinator343 yeah I know, that's why I wrote 'would love to have seen'. Also just for my own knowledge to see what his thoughts were. Just enjoy bike talk.
@ it handles it just fine. Some of the fastest times down Bennett and Black were done on a XC bike similar to the Ranger. That being said it’s rider dependent. Would I buy the Ranger if I planned on standing on a podium in a enduro race…no. The Ranger is just a great all around bike. It’s not a slug when pointed up and it’s not afraid of the steeps either. If you’re one of the rare people riding like Remy Metailler than this bike isn’t for you.
Sunglasses I'm just about to do love my rebel ranger have it down to 2 3. 8 mainly because of the wheel set sub 1000 g starting to itch for a new bike though. As I have the V1 looking for something a little faster I wonder how it compares to the specialized epic any thoughts would be greatly appreciated or maybe the yeti would love to build a low 22 lb bike
Yeah, maybe. It’s really not that simple and should probably do a live stream to further explain my thoughts on the matter… in short, the Scalpel feels a bit more punchy when you step on it. Sharper feeling but doesn’t get pushed around too much on the down hill and at higher speeds. DM me on instagram and I’ll send you a voice note to better explain if you want🤙
Fun, I used to wear shooting glasses as well…. Long time ago tho. I think most viewers of this channel would be shocked to know that I actually spend a lot of time shooting guns. It’s another one of my hobbies.
mtbyumyum - no sh!t?!? Man I love my 6" .357, love the .22 pistol for benched, slow-fire 200 meter clay pigeons set on the berm, now there's a real challenge lol keeps me busy for hours and a couple bricks of .22LR, love the AK and the .30 rifle for 500m stationary pigeons. Never really got into shotguns tho. So when I make it out to UT can we ride to where we can plink a bunch? 👊🤠
HELLO JASON, GREAT VIDEO AND GREAT BIKE. I WANT TO ASK YOU, AFTER WATCHING THE VIDE, (I'M TALKING ABOUT THE EPIC 8 EVO REVIEW VIDEO) AND SEEING WHAT YOU DID TO THE BIKE (THE SUSPENSION CHANGE) IN YOUR OPINION, IS IT BETTER TO BUY THE EPIC 8 OR BUY THE EPIC 8 EVO AND CHANGE THE SUSPENSION AND SO HAVE 2 DIFFERENT BIKES? GREETINGS FROM SINALOA MEXICO
The new Ripley is just a totally different animal altogether. I’d have to ride them back to back to be sure but I think that the Ranger might actually climb better. You might consider the yeti SB 120. It’s also on sale right now at Salt Cycles. 801-943-8502. It’s a bike that feels pretty similar to the old V4 Ripley, but it has a slightly longer wheelbase and more modern geometry. It would actually be a pretty sweet upgrade if you want something thats descends a little bit better than your Ranger.
Please tell us what's gone wrong with the v1 Ranger review. As far as I understand, the v2 version has the same geometry, and the only difference is minor quality of life improvements. Like udh hanger. Ps love your channel!
I never published the v1 Ranger video because it had problem after problem... that video was cursed. Filming problems, battery on the gopro freezing multiple days of filming.... audio problems and then editing problems. To be clear, it wasn't a problem with the bike.... the producing, filming and editing nightmare was the problem that I eventually gave up on the project....
The Cbf works by as you compress the rear suspension instead of going up vertically it goes up but more horizontal so it doesn’t “ pitch” like other bikes ! I think that’s kinda how it achieves the “ flat tyre feel “ 😂 that’s my opinion anyway I’m no expert 👍🏾😂
Interesting, thanks. It’s nice to have it all broken down in the sentence like that. Yeah, I was just describing it to a friend earlier today over the phone. I was trying to describe how the bike feels like it’s still being propelled forward even when it hits a bump or a piece of terrain that would otherwise make the bike get pulled backwards a little bit or deflect off of the rock or whatever. It just feels like the CBF suspension keeps the bike, quiet and moving forward.
@@mtbyumyumyeah. That concerned me and prevented me from trying a 130mm fork. The STA would be around 74.8. I did notice a guy running a large frame and slamming the seat forward with a 130mm. He said it felt good that way pedaling. Guess it only matters on the ups. When sitting. Just thoughts.
The Ranger wouldn't be progressive enough for me. The prefer short travel bikes with a longer wheelbase. Would like to see you review the new 2025 Rocky Mountain Element? Thanks for all the great reviews!
Probably doesn’t feel quite as efficient as the epic…. But a lot more traction. Really comes down to what you’re looking for… the Ranger feels more damp and supple. Epic feels like a race bike
Forget to ask, what’s your height? I see the saddle is slightly shifted rearward, which indicate that it might be too cramped for you - I might be incorrect but I want to go for the safe size.😊 I’m 176cm and I was told I need the Medium, which might be it, I just want to know if that’s the right way to go given I aim to cover distance and not riding hard up/downhill.
I don’t think so. It has a slightly longer reach in real world application then other cross-country bikes I’ve been riding recently. In fact, I just went on a ride with my wife around the neighborhood on Sunday and she rode the Ranger and I rode her IBIS Exie and she commented the Ranger was a little longer
Ok... now i have watched your review on the ranger. For help in the climbing department...This Ranger or a giant Trance 29 120mm model. Some other channel I follow says the giant for climbing over the Ranger. What you think?
I hear this all the time and I really doubt anyone would even notice the difference out on the trail... in fact, the steeper hta is what makes the bike so quick and zippy... I think it's great and I really hate to see all the modern bikes become "enduro"
@@mtbyumyum I totally agree. I wouldn't change the geo too much - the bike feels very stable despite the numbers. I live in the front range and often ride from home to pretty steep places like Left Hand OHV with the stock setup. It's a perfect bike for long rides that do get techy (up and down). However, if you really want it to be more capable you can put a 130mm fork on it which would make the front feel more like the extra capable rear and would slacken it out maybe 0.5 - 1 degrees because the 130mm forks longer travel and A2C on top of that increase.
thanks for the feedback. I wasn't suggesting enduro numbers BTW. Maybe the steeper HTA is a benefit. My Ripley AF is 65.5 and wonders going up steeper slopes but is pretty stable going down. But the older I get I'm less interested in downhill speed.
@@mtbyumyum they take a bit different setup approach, at least compared to my ripley, once you hit the spot i am pretty sure you would like the ride characteristic. but agree, a pogo stick was my first impression too.
Exactly what @skinny8019 said... sb120 is a different category... longer wheelbase, more stable at higher speeds... the Ranger is more like the sb115 of old...
Hey I could be your Euro Buddy-Daniel! 40+, dad, doesn't race! :) Anyways, what do you think about putting a adjustable headset on the Ranger and a 130mm fork? - Excellent review!
Haha 85% of my audience is my Daniel buddy😆😎 that’s awesome. I personally never tried a bike with an angle set. That said, I would be worried that the 130 mil travel fork would potentially unbalanced the bike and also make the sta a bit slacker than I would want. Again, never had experience with an angle set. Also, I think the 120 mil fork is great on this bike
Had a rascal and it preformed well above its weight for DH, but it did not pedal anything like it should uphill, it was always considerably slower than my v4 ripley. Always wondered how the ranger would be as a once a week XC racer and big endurance ride bike. How would you rate its pedal performance compared to an exie/ripley? Really thinking the element might be the winner for daily driver with occasional xc, but had actually forgot about the ranger. Might have to go demo this bike
There’s a lot to say here, but the reality is the element has a much longer wheelbase. I haven’t seen the changes on the new element, but my guess is it’s not that different than the previous model. Too long of a bike for what I like in a short travel bike….
WorldWideCyclery asked me to do a customer review on the Fox Float shock for $50 gift card, problem is I don't know how to really approach the review. Any advice from a seasoned vet like you would be greatly appreciated.
🤷♂️ I wouldn’t stress out too much about it. Just be honest how your experience was with the shock and get your 50 bucks. I don’t think your review is going to be graded or anything.
I wish I could tell you in person how annoying this is to hear. First, it’s 2024 with so much technology and opportunity… basically everyone makes a good bike at this point. When bikes became 1x11 and now 1x12 drivetrain, engineers no longer had to deal with different chain rings and angles both for climbing and descending… so ALL bikes climb and descend better than ever. Not sure why you’re saying this is my favorite bike, it isn’t and I didn’t say that. It’s a very good bike! Im happy to own and ride it. It feels different than basically any other bike in this category and im pumped on… big deal. Send me a link to your review of this bike, or any bike for that matter.
Don’t let him get you down. I think your reviews are just getting better. You do more comparing between other bikes during the reviews than you used to which just adds more depth for us. Of course you’re stoked after every ride- you’re riding the best bikes available that we’re all interested in. Your videos are very entertaining. Keep em coming.
Agreed. I would imagine it is hard to really pinpoint any real big negatives to a bike these days as they are all very good. Some simply call to you more than others. Welcome to the human element of reviews! And while I'm sure some out there would love to see reviewers crap all over a bike, that would be a bit of a poison pill to a channel that depends on a degree on others to provide demo bikes. I've watched enough of Jason's vids to know when there is a bike he is less than excited about without him having to go all Simon Cowell on it.

@@mtbyumyum placed my order the same day this vid dropped and watched this vid so many times I lost count in the days my bike was in transit. So so stoked! Now you have me wanting to swap to Fox ha.
haha, dude that's awesome! Glad the video could keep you company while you waited!
I have rode a ton of bikes and agree with you 100% that the rear suspension is in a league of it’s own
Well said! Yep! Crazy how well the cbf sus handles chatter. Like the bike is always being propelled forward and never getting hung up on anything.
Yeah, I honestly think Revel makes the most beautiful bikes. Paint jobs and attention to detail are second to none!
@@mtbyumyumabsolutely with you on the CBF. Some great sales on bikes. Might pick up a new rascal v2. Hope you get your hands on one also.
@@skinny8019 another great bike (Rascal) but I found it a bit heavy and also the climbing was good but nothing special, descending very stable and soaks up the terrain very well so no problems there
Great review! How do you think this compares to the SB115? I picked up one last year and I love it.
@@mtbyumyum Yeah, I don’t need another 120 plow bike. That’s what more travel is for. What tire combo are you running?
I’ve got rekon/rekon race on the Ranger
Still riding and loving my 114m rear/140mm front travel 2017 Yeti SB4.5c without any need or desire to replace it. Looks like a sweet bike though!
Wow, no kidding. That’s awesome! Loved the 4.5… what a rad bike!
Just encourages you to keep the speed up!
thats what I like about it so much is the confidence that rear end traction gives me especially on off camber stuff,
Nice! Yep, the Ranger is a pretty neat bike... I really do think the new Fox Float shock is a game changer for any short travel bikes.... for sure a better feel than the previous Fox DPS
Hmmm, may be an early Christmas in my house. Curious where you feel it is an improvement over the previous.
The new fox float shock requires much less air pressure than the previous dps shock and creates a much more open and damp feeling… less “sprung” feeling.
Awesome! I've been waiting for this video since version 1 of the Ranger
It was a long time coming... but I finally got it🤘
Real quick Jason, you wrote this is the most FUN in this category, well what about the next category up, did you still take CBF or..?
For me has not about ego, I outgrew that in my twenties, it's about fun! Not to be confused with thrill, if I want thrill like fast downhill and big jumps I'll jump on the 350, now I'm just doing it for the joy and this bike seems to bring that out in your videos more than just about any other. So can we go up one category and still have the fun Factor while being more capable or do we even need to?
follow up question - what mount is that for your computer? Thanks!
Had mine for 2yrs. Selling for an ASR soon. I’ve done it all in the Ranger. Push 11-6, Cane Creek IL Air (which is amazing) and even a Pike 130 at one point.
And 27.5 lbs X01 and Ibis S28 Carbon i9 wheels. Takes a lot to lighten it up.
@@mtbyumyum agreed. It can make you feel like you’re in a bigger travel bike like most CBF do.
Awesome bike! Love mine! Very curious where that trail is? Looks really fun
Glad you finally reviewed one of these. I love my Ranger. Mine is around 28 lbs with a 130mm fork.
me too, thanks!
I loved my Revel Ranger! If I could afford two bikes, I would have a Ranger and the new Ripmo V3.
That would be a pretty killer quiver!
Wow, yeah, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing, we need a review of the new element too!
It's on the list!
Another bike I came close to getting, the last version anyway. But it was heavy, had 18 bearings in the suspension alone, steep HTA. Who knows probably would have loved it. Such a good looking bike though.
Yeah, for 115mm travel it’s a bit on the heavy side but my is still below 26 lbs… and rides amazing!!
Sweet bike!
@mtbyumyum great! Ty!!
@@mtbyumyum thank you for your comments . My next step should be to test ride both thanks again. I value your opinion.
@@Cartsp70 thanks for your opinion. I’ll look closer at the Ranger .
Good luck!
Please review a SC Blur TR
I'll see if I can line that up before the snow flies

haha just posted basically same comment. That new element looks fantastic, but is it better than a ranger at 40% off (with slacked out 140 fork...)?
Don't be fooled by progression numbers. Try a CBF bike and see how hard it is bottom out. It has huge amounts of support!
Bought a set of glasses. I wear the Smiths also and the sliding down the nose issue is real. Constantly pushing them up.
It’s so funny, I honestly didn’t even realize I was pushing my Smith glasses back up on my eyes so many times until I switched to these Nollys. They’re money👌
@@mtbyumyum thank you for adding this to the video. Looking forward to my pair.
@mtbyumyum does the new Ranger climb as well as the Ripley V4? I tried the Ranger a couple years ago and liked the downhill but thought the climb was much better on the Ripley.
Nope, the Ranger probably doesn’t climb quite as well. It’s not terrible though.
what stem are you using?
It would be great if you could review the Specialized Chisel full suspension! Great review!
I've never ridden that specific model, but I'm always happy to check out new bikes. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have the V1 Ranger and love it!! I’ve ridden this bike everywhere from Moab to Pisgah.
Glad you're loving the V1! It's a great bike.
How’d it fair in Pisgah?
@ it handles it just fine. Some of the fastest times down Bennett and Black were done on a XC bike similar to the Ranger. That being said it’s rider dependent. Would I buy the Ranger if I planned on standing on a podium in a enduro race…no. The Ranger is just a great all around bike. It’s not a slug when pointed up and it’s not afraid of the steeps either. If you’re one of the rare people riding like Remy Metailler than this bike isn’t for you.
Nolly glasses look nice. Thanks for the discount code

You could get the new Scalpel in the 22 lbs range.... still a great bike too! For sure order the glasses.... they're great and an excellent value!
So Scalpel if you still think you’ll pin on a number, even for the over 40 crowd??
Yeah, maybe. It’s really not that simple and should probably do a live stream to further explain my thoughts on the matter… in short, the Scalpel feels a bit more punchy when you step on it. Sharper feeling but doesn’t get pushed around too much on the down hill and at higher speeds. DM me on instagram and I’ll send you a voice note to better explain if you want🤙

If it were me, I’d buy the Revel Ranger over the Specialized Epic… especially at 40% off through Salt Cycles #801-943-8502
Great bike I’ve had mine since 2021. How would compare to the new ripley? Good review as always.,
Not very comparable to the new V5 Ripley... that feels like a much bigger bike
@@mtbyumyum How does the climbing compare? I am considering upping the travel of my "small bike" and this the ripley is on the short list.
Dont be afraid to try a 130mm fork on front of the Ranger. Its still playful while being more capable on the downs.
Interesting. Sta isn’t too slack?
@@mtbyumyumyeah. That concerned me and prevented me from trying a 130mm fork. The STA would be around 74.8. I did notice a guy running a large frame and slamming the seat forward with a 130mm. He said it felt good that way pedaling. Guess it only matters on the ups. When sitting. Just thoughts.

How would you rate it vs the epic 8 or Evo in terms of pedal efficiency
Probably doesn’t feel quite as efficient as the epic…. But a lot more traction. Really comes down to what you’re looking for… the Ranger feels more damp and supple. Epic feels like a race bike
@@mtbyumyum
How would you rate it in terms of bobbing on flat source?
Forget to ask, what’s your height? I see the saddle is slightly shifted rearward, which indicate that it might be too cramped for you - I might be incorrect but I want to go for the safe size.😊
I’m 176cm and I was told I need the Medium, which might be it, I just want to know if that’s the right way to go given I aim to cover distance and not riding hard up/downhill.
I'm 5'8"
@@mtbyumyum
For 5'9" 1/2, do you think medium would be too small? given 50mm stem.

Yeah, I think the 120mm 29er Trance might be more efficient up the trail... I think they're close tho
If the HA was about a degree+ slacker it might be in consideration to purchase
I hear this all the time and I really doubt anyone would even notice the difference out on the trail... in fact, the steeper hta is what makes the bike so quick and zippy... I think it's great and I really hate to see all the modern bikes become "enduro"
I’ve ridden this bike down Hiline, Ahab, TWE, Doctor Park and the Pisgah forest. The head angle wasn’t an issue. The bike as a whole felt great.
You didn't like it, huh? 😂 that bike was off my radar, but gotta check it out.
Haha yeah, it’s no fun at all… definitely don’t check it out😆🤙
you really should demo spot Mayhem 150, or any living link bike for that matter.
I got a chance to ride a spot Bike only one time it was very brief. It felt like a pogo stick to be honest with you.🤷♂️
@@mtbyumyum they take a bit different setup approach, at least compared to my ripley, once you hit the spot i am pretty sure you would like the ride characteristic.
but agree, a pogo stick was my first impression too.
Ranger or SB120?
Ranger more nimble. I’d compare the sb120 to the rascal.
Exactly what @skinny8019 said... sb120 is a different category... longer wheelbase, more stable at higher speeds... the Ranger is more like the sb115 of old...
Hey I could be your Euro Buddy-Daniel! 40+, dad, doesn't race! :)
Anyways, what do you think about putting a adjustable headset on the Ranger and a 130mm fork?
@@mtbyumyum Okay thank you sir!
I hope u can answer me
...is every bike you review your favorite??? (just saying)
