Of course backwards compatibility is important. It's like if you buy a new PC, and then only being able to play new games going forward. That's ridiculus.
Unfortunately, many (if not most) gamers ignore anything that's not New and Shiny. So you get console gamers who won't play anything that isn't new or remastered from their childhood, and PC gamers who won't play any games that aren't live services, AAA tentpoles, or spectacles.

At least we’ll potentially have 60fps patches for Bethesda games now that they’re an in-house studio. Hopefully they will make it a free upgrade like most Xbox first party upgrades. As somebody who had Fallout 4 on One X, we need this.
Yes! That's what people seem to forget when backwards compatibility is mentioned: the preservation of games. It shows they intend to do right by future games (ie, always having a local downloadable option, enhancements, etc)
As a PC guy who had no intention of buying a Series X because I don't need one for upcoming titles, this is how Microsoft manages to sell me one anyway. I don't need one for new games, but when the price is right, I'll pick one up to boost my old games.

PrezidentTrump i tried in 4k with my ryzen 1800x 16GB 1080ti and i didn’t get a very good framerate. I didn’t look how much exactly but it was slow but usable. I still have access to the game i can test it more precisely.
20fps was probably just poor optimization. You can get a very demanding game to run on poor hardware with good optimization, just look at the minimum requirements for cyberpunk 2077.

And all this is with literally zero Series X-specific code on any of the backwards compatible games. So presumably old games specifically enhanced for the new consoles will be even more performant. Pretty impressive.
But what switch can they flip that would just make games jumping down to 56fps stay at a stable 60fps? Replacing the ingame textures with lower ones or spreading the work load on the CPU differntly?
@@TheOfficialChannelOfChannels Microsoft developed specific tools(software) for back compat games to do just that. They have been working on this tech for years. Unlocked frames,higher 4k resolution, textures, auto HDR etc.
Backwards compatible games do not utilize the new architectural features (that come with the zen 2 cores/ modern gpu and velocity architecture). If a developer were to adjust theor code to take advantage of these, the performance increase would be a lot higher than 100%.

Obviously we don't know the specifics but games that have locked fps like the some shown in this video cannot be boosted in fps unless the developer releases a patch to unlock it. If the fps is unlocked or capped at 60 more powerful hardware should allow it to run smoother. This common practice in PC and I'm glad that consoles are becoming more like PC in this aspect.

What Microsoft is doing here is making sure backwards compatibility is just a given from now on and not only that but also making sure older games run better and better on newer and newer platforms. Just like on PC. Bravo Microsoft I absolutely love this.
I'm going to be playing loads pf xbox360 and xbox one games on this. Titanfall 2 has a unlocked resolution. Star Wars fallen order at locked 60fps is going to,be awesome.
The most impressive thing about this is that these performance boosts require NO PATCHES. This is all hardware level. The results on games that are patched or run off velocity will be even more incredible.

I'm really hoping Microsoft continues the backwards compatibility program with the release of the new generation of consoles, and brings more original Xbox and 360 titles to the One and the new Series consoles. Still many great old titles that would be amazing to play on newer systems.
Droid No, I have a huge collection of 360 games, of which maybe a third I can play on my One. That is why I say I hope the BC program continues and they continue to add older titles to the roster of playable titles on newer hardware. Microsoft previously stated they were putting the backwards compatibility program on pause while the focused on the rollout of the new generation. Well the new generation is releasing soon and I am waiting for an announcement from Microsoft that the backwards compatibility program will resume.
Droid Yeah i understand that but I am still hoping they will do more. They only did 31 original Xbox games for one thing. I will continue to hope until I hear an official statement from Microsoft about it one way or another.

There is tons of people, especially young people that haven’t played a lot of games that will be available in the back compatible catalogue specially a good opportunity for the Game Pass
I commend Microsoft for dedicating resources to backwards compatibility because it is extremely important imo. I remember upgrading my PC and going back to games that were demanding on my old PC and playing them at higher fidelity graphics and frame rates it is a much better experience.
@@ec5018 LOL we're not talking about the Amiga. It's mainly Xbox One that they're focusing a lot of the resources, than 360 and than original Xbox which isn't that old. You could scoop up a bunch of good games for the Xbox One on the second hand market right now, they're dirt cheap and you can play them on your Series X. Between that and Game Pass there's tremendous value there.
Backwards compatibility is exactly why I'm choosing Series X over the PS5. Sony's attitude toward backwards compatibility is downright insulting, they don't seem to care at all about preserving their older games or even letting users play them again. They'll offer a handful of old titles for $20 on the Playstation Store, but that's about it. And the lazy, halfassed job they did on the PS Classic really shows just how little they care about older games.

Don't put up with mediocrity when you could have thousands more games accessible to you if Sony actually wanted too...its also not just about you, what about younger generations just getting into games now? 10 year olds who were born just after Red Dead Redemption and just before Skyrim was about to release (sure skyrim has long outlived its welcome) but these are the types of games that released then, and many inaccessible still on PS4/5....but theres a whole generation of games before then that millions have never played yet! And Xbox are the only console at the precipice of that catalogue and preservation...

I think most of the heavy lifting in backwards compatibility games will be done by the CPU. Those Jaguar CPU's held back performance so many times. Glad we're getting 3GHz+ AMD Zen 2 CPU's.
Remember these are games that aren’t tampered with by the original developers or the BackCompat team at Xbox this is strictly Series X doing the heavy lifting here, I truly expect the BackCompat team to start optimizing allot of Xbox One, Xbox360 and OG Xbox games soon enough and start getting 4K 60 or double the original targets like Rich was saying.
Given their recent investment it would also make sense to put the Xbox expert team together with Bethesdas engineers to save something like Fallout 76. Which is a game that could still live up to its potential

Well it depends on what you're in for. If you care about exclusives like Spiderman:Miles Morales, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, Ratchet And Clank, Last Of Us, or God Of War, then Ps5 would suit you best. Or if you have an extensive PSN library. If you prefer third party support over exclusives, Xbox is a better system. There's no question that One X was a better build than Ps4 Pro and it was a lot quieter. Because of the Fps and graphics quality, you'd probably enjoy Battle royale games or COD or Battlefield better on Xbox compared to Playstation. Not to mention that Gamepass has nearly every Xbox exclusive on it and a lot of great third party games like Red Dead Redemption 2. It depends on what you're looking for. Neither option is the wrong one. For me ? I just don't like Playstation games and I find them boring. The Last Of Us was supposed to be this amazing game and I really didn't like the long cutscenes or the gameplay. I've been with Microsoft since I switched from Ps3 to 360 and I'll continue to stay with them. I'm getting Xbox Series X on launch and I'll be buying Cyberpunk 2077 to kick it off.

I know you're joking but I'll give a real response anyway for people who are curious. From what other reviewers have been saying, the older the game is, the less demanding it is to load, the smaller the difference will be in load times. OG Xbox games are only seeing like 20-30% difference whereas newer more demanding games like RDR2 and Control are seeing 60-75% difference in load time reduction.
If only that memory issue on morrowind could be fixed. Not about to invest 100+ hours on console version, just for the game to increase loading times, crash, and corrupt data.

Owned PS4 and played God of war 4, Last of US one time each and that was it. I really really missed playing Halo, Gears and other games online. Love playing games online with friends and family. Game pass is going to be icing on the cake 🎂.

Xbox has been killing it. Game Pass, Full Enhanced backwards compatibility, acquiring Bethesda, Superior power which means superior multiplates, and Quick Resume which is awesome 👌
These type of channel don't have subs cause many are not interested in model or how hardware works but in last 1 and 2 years people interest in this has increased that's why DF is growing at good rate. Similar thing for speedruning
I think Lichdom battle mage had a patch added to it on Xbox to lock it at 30 FPS. I'm more curious to see it on the PlayStation 5, since the PS4 version never had a cap on frame rate put on it.
@@ZombieZifiction It supports all the way back to OG Xbox and you also have to include 360 back compatible classics like Ikaruga, Daytona USA, etc. It's not a MAME emulator but it's pretty impressive for a modern console. You can go ahead and fuck off.

Can someone point out some differences in the split screens? I see the fps info, but how does that present as you're playing? They look identical to me.
@@T4Y70R less stutter and lag and smoother playing experience. You won't see it as a big deal on a video of course. But it makes a hell of a difference when actually playing. I personally turn down settings to hit stable 60fps on my PC because stutters are really annoying. This is magnified even more if you are playing in VR. Frame drops below 60 lead to motion sickness in VR due to that higher input latency and stutter.
Backwards compatibility is extremely important for me. When you have a backlog of video games that you love as big as mine...hell yeah I want to play it upgraded. I don't want to have to plug in my 14+ year old Xbox 360 to play Ninja Garden 2.

This. My 360 is hooked up in the same room that my Xbox One is but I'd rather be able to play those games on Xbox One, have them all in one place, and be able to put away my 360 without worry.

360 was frustrating when it came to back compat, compatibility was very spotty and slow to get additions. Since MS put Rareware in charge of developing Xbox back compat along with Rare Replay, these features have been top tier.

Yep I have to say I was pretty much sold on this machine from that DF video where they went over the design at Microsoft. Some people were moaning about the design because it's not cosmetically ostentatious like the PS5. But I think they're being very superficial, if you watch that DF video it really sheds light on the beauty of its form and function.

Back compat is a win all round for any console, imho. There are loads of games I'd like to revisit at higher resolutions and frame rates - the Project Gotham Racing series being top of my wishlist. At the end of the day, a great game is a great game, regardless of when it was made. The fact you can play these at higher resolutions and frame rates is the delicious icing on the cake.

It is pretty damn impressive for a console. We're basically having 3 generations of games running at 60fps. This is glorious. This alone is enough reason to get this machine, and we haven't even seen it's final form yet!

Why though? If you upgraded from a GTX 1060 to a RTX 2080 (for example) and a weak CPU to a strong one in your PC, games would suddenly perform a lot better.
@@FullNietzsche Yes, ofcourse. But they're all using a standard set of API's, 3rd party libraries and generally same OS under the hood as far as PC gaming goes. But it's not always the case, e.g. GTA IV runs poorly even on modern systems which is why 60fps on XBSX is even more impressive. Console development I can only assume is different as devs leverage certain tricks of the hardware to get more out of it, certain features of the GPU, or features that are not present in the newer consoles (i.e. EDRAM/ESRAM), or code to the "metal". The XBSX has to essentially emulate all these functions from previous generations, and emulating the original XB and X360 would place a huge overhead on resources seeing as even PC versions of these emulators run poorly.
@@RealThorOdinson Console games and PC games are the same games with the same code, an Xbox is essentially a Windows 10 PC locked down to only play games. It's why Xbox games like Forza run natively on PC, they aren't 'ported' like in the 360 era, it's the same code. So it's really not as super special amazing as you think, that games with unlocked framerates on Xbox suddenly run a lot better when given faster hardware to run on. Developers don't need to tell the game 'look, you are running on better hardware, isn't that great? Now let me explain to you how to run faster and put in some special magic programming to make this happen'. That should be the expected behaviour and surprise no-one.
PC is all about brute force on majority if not almost all games... 🤔 This is why consoles can't compare to PC, because they do get optimized for consoles... If you listen "carefully" to Richard, he says "that the games he is showing are games" 'kind of allowed to be shown by Microsoft'... So yep, they are optimized to be played on the Xseries, this is also confirmed by the biggest Xbox fanboy Evan's Channel... He says in his Xseries video that "not all games will be playable"... Again that hints that the games being shown around "had been optimized to be played on Xseries"...
@@ADRzone Ofc PC has to brute force games through bottlenecks that's why they have better hardware. Games are optimized for console, because they have a custom architecture to take advantage of. Richard was speaking of backwards compatibility not full architecture optimization. When games are optimized to take full advantage of the Ps5/Xbox architecture we can see it run bettter than similarly specced PCs. PCs worker harder while Consoles work more efficiently.
@@343ishill I know all that buddy... But the game net coding is made, they use that to allow the hardware to play the game (hence optimized to be able to play)... You can't just download or play whatever you want because it can break and brick your console, so the optimization comes into play, if not you will be able to play ALL games... Now those games were optimized for old hardware, and I get it, but they have also been optimized to run on this new hardware, any other changes, changes the netcoding completely making the game "then" unplayable on Xone... But they are as optimized as they will be... A game crashes on PC, PC just keeps on going, a game bricks your console it can be "bye bye" for the console...
Even on PC it struggles to stay above 60fps There's a couple mods you could install to help it run better but no matter how powerful your PC is it will still occasionally drop to the 50s
Complexity we really haven’t seen anything next gen yet have we? and I have all 3 main consoles and a series X and PS5 preordered (in case you think I care about 12 year old mentality of “console wars”)
So long story short I’ve always been a Nintendo guy. I’ve had al 3 companies consoles and handhelds over the years. Had a 360 but got RROD. Finally caved and got a One X for a ridiculously cheap price. With Gamepass I was in heaven. Series X looking like it will be bomb. And I got my Switch for exclusives. Can’t wait, this is impressive!
They'll never beat high spec PCs, but for devices built to very aggressive price points, they'll do the job just fine. I'm especially glad that both MS and Sony are emphasizing improving load times this time around - the main reason I never touched my PS4 or XOX much was because the load times were horrible.
Yeah, with games as a service on the rise we will continue playing our favorite games over many years, across several generations. Backwards compatibility is a must.

The exact reason I am buying Series X is to play older games like Battlefield, Witcher 3 and game pass games at PROPER SOLID 60FPS. Not half ass crap with constant drops below 60 which I got with the X1X
@@tezturkey6824 I think many are. SOLID 60FPS in 2020 should be BARE minimum. Nothing worse than advertising a game running at 60FPS then having it run at 40-50FPS 70% of the time.... DIABOLICAL in 2020.

@@g4meboy13 In theory it is. In practice, maybe not as much as many people seem to believe. NOT every new(if any) game will be availible at it. At least not at the start. How would developers and publishers earn their coin back otherwise, and profit? Games cost dozens of milions of dollar$ to come into being. Perhaps I am wrong and EVERY game shall be inside.
Microsoft does have something special here and it brings a warmth to my heart to see older games running better than they have ever run. Their commitment to supporting these titles long term is amazing. As a PS4 Pro owner and potential PS5 buyer this makes me very frustrated with Sony, because they are not doing even half of what Microsoft is doing in this department. A lot of PS4 games didn't even get a Pro patch! Great titles like Driveclub, Bloodborne, Until Dawn and Uncharted Collection, that can't really be played anywhere else, never got a Pro patch, and for sure will not get a PS5 one. Imagine Driveclub or Bloodborne at 4k 60 or maybe even Checkerboarded 1440p 120...

You literally can't "hardcode" games for a specific system.. lol wtf. PS4/One were basically just lower end PCs. You don't really have to code or develop any differently for PS4/One than you did for PC (except a few little touches here and there at the end of development). Its quite literally like saying "It's impressive that this PC game that ran on a 2012 PC, runs on a 2020 PC with better performances".. doesn't make sense xD
@@AwesomeNuke Hard coded graphics settings have no benefit on the Xbox Series X as indicated early on. Only games with unlocked frame rates benefit. A game at 1080p locked at 30 FPS on Xbox One will see pretty much no benefit on Xbox Series X. Only unlocked games or modified games are improved. So its not like a PC where the user has control over graphics settings.
This is seriously like going back and playing your old collection with higher settings on a modern PC. Absolutely love the feature their 360 and OG Xbox emulation is astounding!
For FFXV at least it looks like the anisotropic filtering is also improved on the Series X vs. the One X. It's especially noticeable in the car ride starting at 5:54
@_Nism0 Well I think the main impact is on video memory, so if you have plenty you won't notice a difference. I imagine they turned it up because the Series X has enough video memory they can afford it now
@@cheese_crab It may look better because the One X had a dynamic resolution when it couldn't handle what was going on it would drop to a lower res. But on Series X with its headroom it can now stay at its highest resolution at all times. That's why you may see an improvement in the Anistropic Filtering. Higher resolutions have been known to give off the look of Anistropic Filtering in games.
I love how digital foundary have evolved so much over the time.. use to remember their half frame rate comparisons of PS3 vs Xbox 360 back in the day and it's crazy that these guys haven't got 1m subs yet. Really underated in my opinion.
I actually skipped the previous 3 generations of Microsoft and Sony hardware, so backwards compatibility is one of the reasons why I chose to preorder the Series X over the PS5.
Thats why I got a ps3 to play ps1 ps2 and ps3. Then ps4 came out no.bwc no thanks. Never own a Xbox before and now that this xbox series x offers bwc its a must buy.

At that point, I figured it’d make more sense to wait, since their respective follow up consoles would most likely be backwards compatible with their predecessors at the very least.

Sony literally can't do backwards compatibility tho, they used much different hardware in the ps3 and under so they would basically have to remake all of the old games.

I’m aware it will a lot of require work, but why not give people access to digital games that they own? Better yet give people the ability to access every game across the PS family of consoles? Sony said that retro games would run in their original specs (if a game was optimized for ps4 pro, it would run that way, if not, ps4 normal) if those games had not PS5 boost (which vanilla Spiderman doesn't have, just the "remastered" version in the complete package of Mile Morales). They even published a chart with that info. If they finally change that, who knows.

I'm not. I'm actually quite worried about the Series S. It will work fine in most circumstances but it won't only be a resolution downgrade, they're going to have to drop other effects to cater for the lower overall specs. It isn't just simply less TFLOPS, it's slower CPU, less RAM, basically lower everything. I wish that this just translates to the exact same image from 4K to 1440p. I don't think many people noticed but in the Series S gameplay reel you get to see The Medium running on the Series S, and I promise you that game was running at like 15-20 FPS on that demonstration. It's certainly possible they can improve it for launch, but that game is only going to be able to run on a Series X at 30 FPS.
@@DirEnGay cpu is almost identical to series X, the clock speed difference is quite small. The gpu has an architectural difference that favors series s over one X, making the difference to one X smaller than what tflops seem to suggest. A lower resolution also requires less ram, that shouldn't be an issue as a result. I do agree that compared to series X, there will probably be some effects turned down in addition to lower res though, I don't know about the one X difference however.

Of course backwards compatibility is important. It's like if you buy a new PC, and then only being able to play new games going forward. That's ridiculus.
Unfortunately, many (if not most) gamers ignore anything that's not New and Shiny. So you get console gamers who won't play anything that isn't new or remastered from their childhood, and PC gamers who won't play any games that aren't live services, AAA tentpoles, or spectacles.

Yes! That's what people seem to forget when backwards compatibility is mentioned: the preservation of games. It shows they intend to do right by future games (ie, always having a local downloadable option, enhancements, etc)
As a PC guy who had no intention of buying a Series X because I don't need one for upcoming titles, this is how Microsoft manages to sell me one anyway. I don't need one for new games, but when the price is right, I'll pick one up to boost my old games.

In short, Microsoft is bringing more games from previous generations to life on the Series X and improving how well they play.
The release version of AC Unity with an unlocked framerate would be a great CPU test, that dropped to like 20fps on Xbox One.

Just ran it on a 3600X+2070 at 1440p. 50-70 with msaa and 70-90 with fxaa with everything else set to ultra.
20fps was probably just poor optimization. You can get a very demanding game to run on poor hardware with good optimization, just look at the minimum requirements for cyberpunk 2077.

@@TheOfficialChannelOfChannels Microsoft developed specific tools(software) for back compat games to do just that. They have been working on this tech for years. Unlocked frames,higher 4k resolution, textures, auto HDR etc.
Backwards compatible games do not utilize the new architectural features (that come with the zen 2 cores/ modern gpu and velocity architecture).
If a developer were to adjust theor code to take advantage of these, the performance increase would be a lot higher than 100%.

Obviously we don't know the specifics but games that have locked fps like the some shown in this video cannot be boosted in fps unless the developer releases a patch to unlock it. If the fps is unlocked or capped at 60 more powerful hardware should allow it to run smoother. This common practice in PC and I'm glad that consoles are becoming more like PC in this aspect.

Droid No, I have a huge collection of 360 games, of which maybe a third I can play on my One. That is why I say I hope the BC program continues and they continue to add older titles to the roster of playable titles on newer hardware.
Microsoft previously stated they were putting the backwards compatibility program on pause while the focused on the rollout of the new generation. Well the new generation is releasing soon and I am waiting for an announcement from Microsoft that the backwards compatibility program will resume.

There is tons of people, especially young people that haven’t played a lot of games that will be available in the back compatible catalogue specially a good opportunity for the Game Pass
I commend Microsoft for dedicating resources to backwards compatibility because it is extremely important imo. I remember upgrading my PC and going back to games that were demanding on my old PC and playing them at higher fidelity graphics and frame rates it is a much better experience.

@@ec5018 LOL we're not talking about the Amiga. It's mainly Xbox One that they're focusing a lot of the resources, than 360 and than original Xbox which isn't that old. You could scoop up a bunch of good games for the Xbox One on the second hand market right now, they're dirt cheap and you can play them on your Series X. Between that and Game Pass there's tremendous value there.

Backwards compatibility is exactly why I'm choosing Series X over the PS5. Sony's attitude toward backwards compatibility is downright insulting, they don't seem to care at all about preserving their older games or even letting users play them again. They'll offer a handful of old titles for $20 on the Playstation Store, but that's about it. And the lazy, halfassed job they did on the PS Classic really shows just how little they care about older games.

And Xbox are the only console at the precipice of that catalogue and preservation...

I think most of the heavy lifting in backwards compatibility games will be done by the CPU. Those Jaguar CPU's held back performance so many times. Glad we're getting 3GHz+ AMD Zen 2 CPU's.

Remember these are games that aren’t tampered with by the original developers or the BackCompat team at Xbox this is strictly Series X doing the heavy lifting here, I truly expect the BackCompat team to start optimizing allot of Xbox One, Xbox360 and OG Xbox games soon enough and start getting 4K 60 or double the original targets like Rich was saying.

Well it depends on what you're in for. If you care about exclusives like Spiderman:Miles Morales, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, Ratchet And Clank, Last Of Us, or God Of War, then Ps5 would suit you best. Or if you have an extensive PSN library.
If you prefer third party support over exclusives, Xbox is a better system. There's no question that One X was a better build than Ps4 Pro and it was a lot quieter. Because of the Fps and graphics quality, you'd probably enjoy Battle royale games or COD or Battlefield better on Xbox compared to Playstation. Not to mention that Gamepass has nearly every Xbox exclusive on it and a lot of great third party games like Red Dead Redemption 2.
It depends on what you're looking for. Neither option is the wrong one. For me ? I just don't like Playstation games and I find them boring. The Last Of Us was supposed to be this amazing game and I really didn't like the long cutscenes or the gameplay. I've been with Microsoft since I switched from Ps3 to 360 and I'll continue to stay with them. I'm getting Xbox Series X on launch and I'll be buying Cyberpunk 2077 to kick it off.

I know you're joking but I'll give a real response anyway for people who are curious. From what other reviewers have been saying, the older the game is, the less demanding it is to load, the smaller the difference will be in load times. OG Xbox games are only seeing like 20-30% difference whereas newer more demanding games like RDR2 and Control are seeing 60-75% difference in load time reduction.

I think Lichdom battle mage had a patch added to it on Xbox to lock it at 30 FPS. I'm more curious to see it on the PlayStation 5, since the PS4 version never had a cap on frame rate put on it.

Can someone point out some differences in the split screens? I see the fps info, but how does that present as you're playing? They look identical to me.
@@T4Y70R less stutter and lag and smoother playing experience. You won't see it as a big deal on a video of course. But it makes a hell of a difference when actually playing. I personally turn down settings to hit stable 60fps on my PC because stutters are really annoying. This is magnified even more if you are playing in VR. Frame drops below 60 lead to motion sickness in VR due to that higher input latency and stutter.

360 was frustrating when it came to back compat, compatibility was very spotty and slow to get additions. Since MS put Rareware in charge of developing Xbox back compat along with Rare Replay, these features have been top tier.

Yep I have to say I was pretty much sold on this machine from that DF video where they went over the design at Microsoft. Some people were moaning about the design because it's not cosmetically ostentatious like the PS5. But I think they're being very superficial, if you watch that DF video it really sheds light on the beauty of its form and function.

Back compat is a win all round for any console, imho.
There are loads of games I'd like to revisit at higher resolutions and frame rates - the Project Gotham Racing series being top of my wishlist.
At the end of the day, a great game is a great game, regardless of when it was made. The fact you can play these at higher resolutions and frame rates is the delicious icing on the cake.

This is kind of insane how much of a performance improvement there is without any optimisation or patch to take advantage of the new hardware...
Why though? If you upgraded from a GTX 1060 to a RTX 2080 (for example) and a weak CPU to a strong one in your PC, games would suddenly perform a lot better.
@@FullNietzsche Yes, ofcourse. But they're all using a standard set of API's, 3rd party libraries and generally same OS under the hood as far as PC gaming goes. But it's not always the case, e.g. GTA IV runs poorly even on modern systems which is why 60fps on XBSX is even more impressive.
Console development I can only assume is different as devs leverage certain tricks of the hardware to get more out of it, certain features of the GPU, or features that are not present in the newer consoles (i.e. EDRAM/ESRAM), or code to the "metal". The XBSX has to essentially emulate all these functions from previous generations, and emulating the original XB and X360 would place a huge overhead on resources seeing as even PC versions of these emulators run poorly.

@@RealThorOdinson Console games and PC games are the same games with the same code, an Xbox is essentially a Windows 10 PC locked down to only play games. It's why Xbox games like Forza run natively on PC, they aren't 'ported' like in the 360 era, it's the same code. So it's really not as super special amazing as you think, that games with unlocked framerates on Xbox suddenly run a lot better when given faster hardware to run on. Developers don't need to tell the game 'look, you are running on better hardware, isn't that great? Now let me explain to you how to run faster and put in some special magic programming to make this happen'. That should be the expected behaviour and surprise no-one.

You can't just download or play whatever you want because it can break and brick your console, so the optimization comes into play, if not you will be able to play ALL games...
Now those games were optimized for old hardware, and I get it, but they have also been optimized to run on this new hardware, any other changes, changes the netcoding completely making the game "then" unplayable on Xone...
But they are as optimized as they will be... A game crashes on PC, PC just keeps on going, a game bricks your console it can be "bye bye" for the console...

So long story short I’ve always been a Nintendo guy. I’ve had al 3 companies consoles and handhelds over the years. Had a 360 but got RROD. Finally caved and got a One X for a ridiculously cheap price. With Gamepass I was in heaven. Series X looking like it will be bomb. And I got my Switch for exclusives. Can’t wait, this is impressive!

They'll never beat high spec PCs, but for devices built to very aggressive price points, they'll do the job just fine. I'm especially glad that both MS and Sony are emphasizing improving load times this time around - the main reason I never touched my PS4 or XOX much was because the load times were horrible.

Microsoft does have something special here and it brings a warmth to my heart to see older games running better than they have ever run. Their commitment to supporting these titles long term is amazing. As a PS4 Pro owner and potential PS5 buyer this makes me very frustrated with Sony, because they are not doing even half of what Microsoft is doing in this department. A lot of PS4 games didn't even get a Pro patch! Great titles like Driveclub, Bloodborne, Until Dawn and Uncharted Collection, that can't really be played anywhere else, never got a Pro patch, and for sure will not get a PS5 one. Imagine Driveclub or Bloodborne at 4k 60 or maybe even Checkerboarded 1440p 120...

It's impressive to see that these games are not hard coded to xbox series x and yet the games are running smoothly.
You literally can't "hardcode" games for a specific system.. lol wtf. PS4/One were basically just lower end PCs. You don't really have to code or develop any differently for PS4/One than you did for PC (except a few little touches here and there at the end of development).
Its quite literally like saying "It's impressive that this PC game that ran on a 2012 PC, runs on a 2020 PC with better performances".. doesn't make sense xD
@@AwesomeNuke Hard coded graphics settings have no benefit on the Xbox Series X as indicated early on. Only games with unlocked frame rates benefit.
A game at 1080p locked at 30 FPS on Xbox One will see pretty much no benefit on Xbox Series X. Only unlocked games or modified games are improved.
So its not like a PC where the user has control over graphics settings.
This is seriously like going back and playing your old collection with higher settings on a modern PC. Absolutely love the feature their 360 and OG Xbox emulation is astounding!
For FFXV at least it looks like the anisotropic filtering is also improved on the Series X vs. the One X. It's especially noticeable in the car ride starting at 5:54
@_Nism0 Well I think the main impact is on video memory, so if you have plenty you won't notice a difference. I imagine they turned it up because the Series X has enough video memory they can afford it now
@@cheese_crab It may look better because the One X had a dynamic resolution when it couldn't handle what was going on it would drop to a lower res. But on Series X with its headroom it can now stay at its highest resolution at all times. That's why you may see an improvement in the Anistropic Filtering. Higher resolutions have been known to give off the look of Anistropic Filtering in games.
As it runs Unreal Engine 4 it might just be that the textures on regular drives aren't fast enough to render.

I actually skipped the previous 3 generations of Microsoft and Sony hardware, so backwards compatibility is one of the reasons why I chose to preorder the Series X over the PS5.

Thats why I got a ps3 to play ps1 ps2 and ps3. Then ps4 came out no.bwc no thanks. Never own a Xbox before and now that this xbox series x offers bwc its a must buy.

At that point, I figured it’d make more sense to wait, since their respective follow up consoles would most likely be backwards compatible with their predecessors at the very least.
Sony have lost me to this. Looks awesome. And the way Sony treated content creators during tlou2 fiasco was the final nail in the coffin for me

Red Dead Redemption from the 360 was incredible on my One X, backwards compatibility is so important. Can't wait to see RDR2 on Series X.
It already runs smooth in 4k on xbox one x so unless they double the frame rate to 60 fps not much to be gain here.

I’m aware it will a lot of require work, but why not give people access to digital games that they own? Better yet give people the ability to access every game across the PS family of consoles? Imagine playing emulated versions of Vita or PSP games? Would be nice for consumers and would make Sony some extra money because I’d go back and buy all the games I always wanted.

Sony said that retro games would run in their original specs (if a game was optimized for ps4 pro, it would run that way, if not, ps4 normal) if those games had not PS5 boost (which vanilla Spiderman doesn't have, just the "remastered" version in the complete package of Mile Morales). They even published a chart with that info. If they finally change that, who knows.

@@AAlfredjoseph well the one x has more ram then the series s and because of this the series s cannot run one x enhanced games it runs the one s versions of the game... series s has 1440p as the target while one x is 2160p. Its going to be good to see the videos on these subjects
I'm not. I'm actually quite worried about the Series S. It will work fine in most circumstances but it won't only be a resolution downgrade, they're going to have to drop other effects to cater for the lower overall specs. It isn't just simply less TFLOPS, it's slower CPU, less RAM, basically lower everything. I wish that this just translates to the exact same image from 4K to 1440p. I don't think many people noticed but in the Series S gameplay reel you get to see The Medium running on the Series S, and I promise you that game was running at like 15-20 FPS on that demonstration. It's certainly possible they can improve it for launch, but that game is only going to be able to run on a Series X at 30 FPS.
@@DirEnGay cpu is almost identical to series X, the clock speed difference is quite small. The gpu has an architectural difference that favors series s over one X, making the difference to one X smaller than what tflops seem to suggest.
A lower resolution also requires less ram, that shouldn't be an issue as a result.
I do agree that compared to series X, there will probably be some effects turned down in addition to lower res though, I don't know about the one X difference however.
Switching to xbox last year was my best decision ever, just kinda annoyed i didnt make the switch earlier.
