for the people who don’t know, this is a Lithium battery. it has these two little “chambers” with different chemicals to make the battery work but sometimes they mix causing gasses to be released and if it gets puffy enough it can and will explode and you can’t put the fire out because it’s a chemical fire. running your battery dead frequently also causes a higher chance of this happening so if your phone at like 10% plug it in.
Its pretty obvious it might explode just by looking at it
As opposed to Nickel Cadmium batteries, which you were always told to run ALL the way down before recharging

Ooooh! This reminds me of the time that I decided to check on a really REALLY old phone I had. It was a pink samsung smartphone that came with those mini "pencils" to use for the touch-screen that is about the size of my palm. I once randomly decided to look for it because I remembered that the phone came with a sonic game (could only play 5 levels because I had to pay to download the entire game) and an Assasin's Creed 2D platform game that I was never able to pass the 15th level when I was 12. When I found it, it wouldn't turn on. Which surprised me a little since I turned it off once I got a new phone a year later and it was working well. I decided to check if the battery is on correctly to which:
1. When I loosened the back part a little it went flying.
2. I was greeted by a battery as thick as the phone.
Needless to say I took it out. I hope one day I'll find a matching battery and hopefully find that assassin's creed game. It's been 7 years and I still think about it.

Lol 4 years ago, my note 3 battery (3rd party) was like this but nowhere near this bad.

My brother's old job gave him a Mac to work with and with in the first two weeks the battery expanded. He sent it back to them and they immediately replaced it. My mom thought it was a big deal but my dad, brother, and I were low-key panicking lol
Broooo my Mac did that… it expanded so much and popped the trackpad right out, but we weren’t able to get it fixed. It got to the point where I couldn’t close the computer cause the battery was so t h i c c. We ended up putting it in the garage so it didn’t blow up my room until I was able to get it fixed.
Honestly to this day I have no idea how it lasted so long without exploding

@@someoneyouneverknow7529 well for a phone the charger is fine but for an RC battery you use special chargers meant to charge multiple cell batteries. I’m often using a 3 cell lipo and I it can’t be charged by a phone charger due to its capacity and voltage.
@@someoneyouneverknow7529 smartphone charger only works for things for things with a USB port and even then it's a battery controller that takes care of charging so it's much simpler than a dedicated lipo charger
I remember my mom's phone had that issue but it was a bit bigger than that my mom was litterally so casual with it. Only when it could not fit in her pocket than she got the battery replaced.

The "I'm a professional idiot" vibe with me so much.... I've been known to chip concrete walls with 90lb jackhammers and do most of my own gunsmithing and pretty much do everything sketchy myself.
I actually currently have a phone sitting in a 55 gallon drum outside with a puffy battery because I'm scared to put it in a vehicle to recycle it, debating just popping it with an airgun.

@John Sinclair its not really from age, it's commonly from over discharge but it can be totally random. my iphone x battery swelled up within the first month of owning it. also they rarely ever pop, and it's not violent.
