Something I found afterwards is that if you want it to be able to use the parking monitoring you need to order an additional fuse box kit. I mention in the video it would need a battery to work, but sounds like it does not have that and will need to be wired to the battery of your truck. Additional wiring required.
First of all I would like to say thank you for covering the details. You covered every detail of that install. This is probably one of the best install videos I've ever seen. You took the time to record and explain every angle of it and I'm impressed. Thank you for taking the time to make a great video. I'm going to buy one for my RAM truck.
The only benefit I ever got out of my old dash cam that had GPS is it enabled you to have access to speed data. Hugely beneficial to be able to prove to insurance companies, or possibly the court, what speed you were going when an incident took place. All that said, I'll take a clean plug and play install over GPS any old day of the week.
Thanks for this video! I just installed the front and rear camera today. I’ve never done anything like this before, but it was so easy! I had trouble getting that center piece off the original housing. Your video provided such a great view of that part, it helped me figure out how to pop that off.
@@gizmonova Not hard at all. The kit from Fitcam is different. If you get the front cam alone the rear can’t be added later (at least that’s the way it was when I bought mine). The cable for the rear cam just plugs into the same power supply for the rear view mirror that the front cam uses and is hidden in the housing. I ran the rear cam cable through the front headliner on the passenger side, then through the passenger side headliner to the rear window. I pulled down the weatherstripping from both the passenger side doors to gain access, and only needed the trim tool provided in the kit to push the cable. There is a fair amount of excess cable length, so you need to decide where to put it. I just stuffed it in the headliner above the front passenger door and it doesn’t show. I probably could have done that a little neater by doing a long coil with a tie or something, but I think it’s fine the way it is. Just be careful of any airbag/vent/wiring stuff . I shined a flashlight in there before I stuffed the cable to make sure I wasn’t going to hit anything. I saw a video where the guy removed the A pillar cover and coiled the extra cable in there. I’m was too chicken to try that because of the airbag. If your truck is still under warranty, I would save the factory housing. If I ever have an issue with the electronics in that area, I would pull the camera & put the factory housing back on before taking it too the dealer.
Great video! I just bought and installed the same camera for a Tacoma and your video was a big help! I am very happy with the camera. Thanks for sharing..
It didn’t work. My mirror housing includes a factory installed camera that is either for proximity or auto dim high beams or both. The way it’s mounted and wired made using this impossible.
I did not get the rear view, only the forward facing. Also looks like I can’t just add the rear view, but rather would have to buy a whole unit with rear view to add it.
Good morning. Short question. If you press the recording button on the housing, the emergency recordings are saved in the length you set in the app (3min, 5min etc.) is my question. Is the time of pressing always the end of the video? Or is it the middle of the video (from 5min setting, 2.30min before pressing and 2.30min after) Unfortunately I haven't seen any reviews of this here on TH-cam. Best regards
Mostly a mistake on my side. Didn't know if I'd like the camera so kept the costs down. Thought I could just buy the add-on later, but looks like you may not be able to do that.
It does not but it does sync with the app. If you have a device that connects to the screen and allows phone mirroring than you could but I guess you’d just be looking at what ur already looking at.

Thanks for the informative video. I like that the cam has no wires exposed. Will be getting one for my Ram.
i went with this one for the same reason. no wires exposed, oem look. still love it.

How hard was the rear install?

@@deborahd9119 Thanks for the detailed description!
Really nice job on the video. Covered details without going down rabbit trails.
@@gizmonova I appreciate the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the video, I'm ordering this today.
glad it helped!
Great video! Thanks for the time you put into such a detailed explanation of each option.
No problem. Hope it was informative.

Thank you. Think this has got me brave enough to try it.
i didn't' find it difficult at all. hope you install goes smooth!
It didn’t work. My mirror housing includes a factory installed camera that is either for proximity or auto dim high beams or both. The way it’s mounted and wired made using this impossible.
@ there are two options from FitCamX depending on the setup in your truck. Did you check their website to see if you got the right one?
Great video I see your in New Jersey I'm also in New Jersey Warren county.
great looking trail boss you got and that gibson exhaust has a really nice growl!
I have noticed, the recording doesn’t record both front and rear simultaneously. It’s either from or back.
Awesome overview. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for the video. I see some people saying that it might block some views but I want to see if you find the cam blocking your view?
Personally, I don't even notice it's there. Only issue I had was that I needed to change the location of my EZ-Pass.
Great, thanks for your reply! @@DadTechTV
How come you had to move the EZ Pass? Was there interference with the camera WiFi? @@DadTechTV
Were you able to see the license plate with the rearview camera at night and day?

Great video. Great explanation. Can I ask why you didn't opt for the rear camera feature?

Great video. Thank you.

I really like the look of this unit, but want GPS and speed info on the video. Anyone know of an integrated unit with GPS?
I haven’t seen one but maybe someone else has found a solution!
Does this work for 2023 rams with the sensors in the front of the mirror? Mine doesn't have all that plastic around it
There are two models on fitcamx’s website. You may need the other model.
Does this sync to the car screen?
It does not but it does sync with the app. If you have a device that connects to the screen and allows phone mirroring than you could but I guess you’d just be looking at what ur already looking at.
Do you have to have WiFi in your vehicle in order for this to work?
No wifi needed. The videos do not upload to the cloud. You need to either pull the sd card or connect with your phone.
Could you use other sd cards? I want to add a 256gb card
Their site says max size is 128.
@@DadTechTVits possible save 7 days ?
Hi
no indication of speed ?
I do not believe it has speed, which could be good or bad depending on your needs.
Does it allow you to zoom into the video if you wanted to focus on a specific part like a license plate?
When you replay video you can zoom in.
I see this videos not clear
The original video is compressed by TH-cam. Original video is smooth.
