@@jaretco6423 yes. It was a remake from the Wii & the reviews were saying below 80/100. The game ended up being one of my fav games I’ve played on switch
Even though I consider myself a real Kirby fanboy, I actually thought I was going to skip this game, because I thought it would feel like double dipping, and because I played the vanilla version just a few weeks ago. However, after playing the demo I was like 'damn you Nintendo, how can this be so much fun' and immediately pre-ordered the friggin game. It really is that good in my opinion and well worth the 40 € I spent on the physical copy, even for fans of the original, and especially for everyone not familiar with the Wii version.
This isn't the single best Kirby game but it is my favorite. The big question is if it has enough content for a 60 dollar price tag for someone who played the original to death.
I never had a Wii so didn't play the original. This looks like classic Kirby I love :D Hoping for a sale, but doubt that will happen anytime soon. I love remakes that just refine and make an old game even better.
I honestly prefer the visuals of the original game (when running at higher resolution/framerate on something like Dolphin). I think the outlines and some of the other visual tweaks, while not "bad", do hurt more then they help.
"if you're using the analog stick" See, that's the problem. Analog sticks shouldn't be used in 2D games at all. If you do, you're only hurting yourself because a Dpad is much more precise when it comes to select a specific direction like "right", of course (I understand joycons doesn't have a proper dpad but it's still better than an analog stick) . If you're using an analog stick because you're used to it, just try to use the dpad for a while and you'll see you'll perform much better.
If one just wants to play mainstory? Definitly worth. I started a savefile(Only did the mainstory as of right now, not extra mode yet) on the Wii original a short time before buying this and one just notices how barebones it feels compared to the later games. No guarding, no going into the air on a spin attack, pressing A underwater does not make swimming faster but rather causes Kirby to swim up a bit. All these early game-quirks changed to the current 2D Kirby standard in Deluxe. I can't say anything about the new postgame stuff tho because I am not that far yet and the minigames are honestly a minuspoint for me actually. The moment you introduce that many achivements, the minigames stop being about the casual experience for me personally. And the achivements are only fun for like 70% of it, the rest is pure agony(sometimes downright RNG-hell) to the point where I just cannot recommend this sidecontent. Even with my overly sensitive controller-setting on Emulator that makes aiming a pain, I'd much rather play Scope Shot again over any of the newly added minigames with how the experience has been completely tainted.(Though I get that this is really a me-thing)
Yeah, but if you only like hard games then this isn't for you. But hey, if you wanna have just a fun time, alone or with your friends, this game is 100% worth it? I am looking foward to play it personally.
Definitely worth it if you love the casual fun Kirby games. I really enjoyed Kirby forgotten land, but it’s easy, but I just appreciate the fun factor and the creativity in the development. I do think that this new Kirby game is worth getting at about $40-$50, but that’s just my opinion and seems like a great buy with the Nintendo Vouchers.

I have the original since 2011 and still bought the new one XD The one on the Wii is my favoutite Kirby game and this new look amazing. I've already played the Demo and loved it ^^ I don't mind paying for the game again, for a new updated version with much more content, great graphic and the possiblity to play the game everywhere I want on my Switch :D Also controlling Kirby with my ProController (or Joy Cons) feels also better then controlling the character with the Wii remote x'D But I still love the original game on the Wii, so I hope you have a great time with it ^^ The best way to play the game is with friends in multiplayer, btw. :D My friend and I played the game over 10 times together X'D
@@venezuela0076 A sale?? What’s that? Lol. No obviously, it looks better, but I don’t know if it looks $20-$40 better. So I could wait for it to go on sale and play it in like, a year or whatever, or I could just play it now and chat with my friends about it. 🤷
Judging from this footage and the demo, the load times are 3 times as long as the Wii version. Seems a bit excessive and could be quite annoying after some time. Not to mention it's lacking some quality of life updates I would've liked to see, such as super abilities not pausing the game during the animation, always put a downer on multiplayer.
@@LuigisLegend Been watching antdude until I get my copy tomorrow, but so far the loading times are still very much slower than the original. They weren't fast to begin with so god only knows how you think it's fast. As for the cutscenes, the problem isn't that they're long, the problem is that they kill the pace for other players. If I could turn on an option to permanantly skip them, as in, have them not play at all that would be perfect, but there's no such option as far as I've seen.
@@batmanbud2 It's been more than a year since my original post, so I honestly don't really care any more. Just wasn't for me.
I feel like this game is kinda a hard sell for me when I already own the original and for the price of $20. I know they overhauled the visuals and I respect that, but just don’t know about that price.
I’d $45 is the spot because this is a remake with new additions and epilogue is worth $10 on its own so on that point is fair. Physical copy may get to that price months after release
@@dreamsdeep1076 I think you also have to consider that this is not just a port, but that they made new models, etc. But yeah, if 60€ is too much for you, I'm sure the price will drop or you could get a used copy if you wait a bit ^^
Based on the general reception of the original version of this game, go for Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe, not Star Allies. I personally think Star Allies is a great game too though, so if you think you want more after you play this, try out Star Allies or its Demo.

I need this game, it looks so good. I have already enjoyed the demo. I do also want Forgotten Land, and I still don't even have Star Allies yet, XD. This game is a perfect example of how a remake SHOULD be done. Not just updating graphics and what not, but adding so much more to it. Even another story.
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Star Allies is fine. The current version of the game is much better than what it was at launch and isn’t worth bashing anymore.
@@Grindelsire you don't even need to play the game. You having to have 4 players at all time destroys it. The team ai is way too aggressive compared to the enemies
Yeah, an actual hardmode would be nice. Extra Mode is that to a degree, but one has to play through normal mode first, even if one already played that before. And then there is the fact that this and the Forgotten Land offer easy mode with Forgotten pretending like the normal mode is a hard mode.
the challenge in kirby games comes from the post game stuff extra mode isnt super hard but its a pretty decent challenge you have 1/2 health and bosses can defeat you in like 3-4 hits
I know it's been two months but I just can't believe that HAL managed to do a better job at remastering a Wii game than SEGA (I know the issues have been fixed but for me Colours Ultimate is a bit disappointing)
I will never quite understand how Kirby fans are satisfied with the exact same gameplay loop over and over, with this being the 5th game its appeared in, meanwhile the New Super Mario Bros series was blasted by fans for doing the exact same thing. Doesn't anyone else find it sad that Kirby Superstar / Superstar Ultra had more gameplay variety than Return to Dreamland / Deluxe, Triple Deluxe, Robobot, and Star allies combined?
All of the recent Kirby games have unique platforming, new abilities, new gimmicks, new characters, new bosses, new stories and new side games. Kirby Superstar and Kirby Superstar Ultra were essentially just like 6 mini Kirby adventures in one game, with a few extra modes. New Super Mario Bros. Has unique platforming and kind of unique bosses. The characters and gameplay loop are actually the exact same. There was also like 2 extra modes in NSMBU that nobody actually enjoys. This is clearly a comment made by someone that hasn’t actually played all of the recent Kirby games, because they have done plenty to stand out from each other. Kirby: Planet Robobot has one of the most highly praised stories and platforming in the series, and the Robobot armor also helps to improve the gameplay without restricting you in any way (looking at you, Mario Odyssey). Also Superstar is incredible mid and I have no idea why people like it so much.
@@Grindelsire I've 100% completed Return to Dreamland Wii, Triple Deluxe, and Planet Robobot, and I bought and started them all on release date. I've never understood the hype behind Robobot in particular, its definitely more fun than RtDL and TD, but not significantly so. Its really just another Kirby game. Its hard to be excited when its the third game in a row where I am traversing the same style of level with a similar pool of copy abilities, doing easy puzzles for whatever collectable unlocks that world's secret level and repeating for hours and hours of gameplay. At least Superstar has modes like Great Cave Offensive where Kirby has a larger interconnected world with a focus on exploration, or Milky Way Wishes with its focus on collecting and freely swapping through a library of obtainable copy abilities. These are massive changes to the way you approach the game, whereas the gimmicks found in all the new 2D Kirby's over the last decade are temporary enhancements to your moveset while doing the same gameplay style you've been doing the entire time, holding right and clearing enemies.
@@nunyabiddeness6544 I don’t really see how these game mode gimmicks are any less temporary than the ones present in the modern games. You'll have to collect treasure… for like an hour and then you move on. You get to collect a pool of abilities and select what level you want to play… for like an hour… and then you move on. It also isn’t helped by the fact that these gimmicks aren’t that fun (except for Meta Knightmare, but that isn’t even Super Star Ultra's idea); for example, Great Cave Offensive's doors and routes are extremely annoying to trek through. You don’t know if you are working towards treasure, or just like… a tomato. You also seem to only be focusing on the main mode of these games, which seems a bit unfair when you are comparing it to Superstar's entire game selection. You've still got the Subgames, the Arena, modes like Heroes in Another Dimension (which has quite difficult puzzles, mind you) and Meta Knightmare/Dededetour/Guest Star, where the challenge is in lowering your time and optimizing what items you pick up to go even faster. I also find it quite interesting that you 100 percent'ed all three and bought them on Day 1 despite finding the gameplay repetitive.
@@nunyabiddeness6544 if that's how you view these games, you honestly have bad taste. Super Star Ultra did have varied modes and gameplay, but because of that, it lacks cohesion, not to mention some of the ideas aren't that great. I hate the Great Cave Offensive especially in the original with no map, and the CEDs in Milky Way Wishes just make things too easy. I honestly have similar problems with Mario 3, and (to a much smaller extent) Mario World. I'm not looking for crazy new ideas. I'm looking for good controls, good progression, good powerups/copy abilities, and good level design. At the end, this is what every 2D platformer should be.
I'm glad they stuck with the American name in the West, because calling it Kirby's Adventure Wii Deluxe would've been awkward considering that it's for the Switch.

This isn't the single best Kirby game but it is my favorite. The big question is if it has enough content for a 60 dollar price tag for someone who played the original to death.
Well that if the end story they added and new mini games are worth it to you or not
No, but we're gonna buy it anyway
Never diss Canvas Curse again lol. It’s one of the best Kirby games IMO
I love Kirby but Return to Dreamland should have the Metroid Remastered price of $39.99
Metroid Prime Remastered didn’t have new minigames and a new epilogue…
@@Grindelsire2 New mini games and a 2 hour epilogue
For me Platformers are 2nd only to ARPGs and this one looks very good!
I feel the opposite. The original looks incredibly bland, and this is the first time a 2.5D platformer from Nintendo has had a truly unique art style.
"if you're using the analog stick"
See, that's the problem.
MecurySteam Metroid and every Smash game be like:
I can’t believe they got rid of Scope Shot😭😭😭 That was the best mini game from the original
the thick black outlines really helps this game. Really mimics the beautiful look of the GBA games.
Bought the game yesterday and it’s fantastic!
I really want to buy this but it should be 40$
I agree I love Kirby too but this game is not worth the $59.99 at this point of the Switch's life.
@@DarthSideous63 it's a shame because I just bought the snes classic controller and it's perfect for a Kirby game
Don't think I'll ever get used to someone else reading the review from another person for a video.
Agreed. It is really awkward
does this game have online?
There’s also “true arena” that includes the EX bosses and the magolor bosses too
If one just wants to play mainstory?
This game was my ENTIRE childhood so I can’t wait to pick this up
The original Kirby on the nes was mine, loll
The game is a masterpiece
Asking the deep questions, is anything worth it?
Yeah, but if you only like hard games then this isn't for you. But hey, if you wanna have just a fun time, alone or with your friends, this game is 100% worth it? I am looking foward to play it personally.
Definitely worth it if you love the casual fun Kirby games. I really enjoyed Kirby forgotten land, but it’s easy, but I just appreciate the fun factor and the creativity in the development. I do think that this new Kirby game is worth getting at about $40-$50, but that’s just my opinion and seems like a great buy with the Nintendo Vouchers.
thank you so much for the best review and really looking into EVERYTHING that this game has to offer unlike some other rly bad reviews I've seen who just "played" it
Good to know that the new final boss is going to be awesome, now I just wonder how the final boss plays out in the True Arena EX...lol
I got the game voucher, which will be Kirby game and the tears of the kingdom game
I read this in Virgil's voice for some reason, lmao. Virgil from dmc😅
A question for owners of the game. Can you play as Dede, Meta or Waddle in single player in this version?
Nah unfortunately P1 has to be Kirby cos of the need for swallow and copy abilities
@@Frost4Real Darn, that sucks. Wished I could play as Dede. I might stick to the Wii version.

This game is probably my favorite Nintendo switch port
What’s with HAL’s aversion to online co-op? Here we are with the third mainline Kirby game on Switch with couch co-op only.
The switch sucks for online and they desperately need dedicated servers instead of still using shit p2p connections
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Even then, I feel like there should be an option at least. Heck, unless the game managed to trick me real good, I'm fairly sure Super Kirby Clash had proper online coop and it worked well enough.
@@lpfan4491 Nintendo doesn't have dedicated servers. It's not up to the game developer. That's up to Nintendo to build servers and maintain them ... Kirby is definitely not on that list if fucking Mario kart isn't
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 And? Literally what is wrong about the mere option of online-play? As long as it isn't forced for 100% completion, it is still better for it to be present at all, even if it isn't reliable because it's p2p.
If Metroid Prime Remastered is $40 this game should be too.
This remaster did more than Metroid did, though.
Could I say this review is objectively correct because the game is objectively awesome? I promise I'm not biased. Anyway, I'm glad everyone at Nintendo Life is enjoying this grand gem in Kirby's catalog!
Now A Super Star Ultra Remake PLEASE

Actually, kinda wanted more canvas curse even though it’s impossible. 😇
I’m sure this version is great, and it certainly looks sharp, but I’m glad I grabbed the original on the eShop before it shuts down. Saved $40 for pretty much the same game.
Dude, I had the original and after playing the demo it's very likely that you'll be regretful for no be pacient enough to at least wait for a sale for this game 😅
I have the original since 2011 and still bought the new one XD
The one on the Wii is my favoutite Kirby game and this new look amazing. I've already played the Demo and loved it ^^
I don't mind paying for the game again, for a new updated version with much more content, great graphic and the possiblity to play the game everywhere I want on my Switch :D
Also controlling Kirby with my ProController (or Joy Cons) feels also better then controlling the character with the Wii remote x'D
But I still love the original game on the Wii, so I hope you have a great time with it ^^ The best way to play the game is with friends in multiplayer, btw.
I'm going to get this for my birthday, since it's my birthday soon.
You can skip the animations and the loading times are really fast...
If you're curious, they're on average three times slower. Gotta remember that the Wii version ran off a disc too. That's some shoddy craftmanship.
@@tenthirtyseven-v1 Star Allies and Forgotten Land were the same way, though. Plus, it's far from a deal breaker.
@@batmanbud2 It's been more than a year since my original post, so I honestly don't really care any more.
If you're curious though, I did continue playing the Wii version via Dolphin with a difficulty mod after finishing the Switch version and I don't see myself ever returning to Deluxe. Just wasn't for me.
This game is definitely not a remake, more like an HD port, you really need to understand the difference between remakes, remasters, and ports
its indeed a HD port that add close to a whole other game to the original.
It has hours more content, large changes to the base game, and completely altered visuals.
Thats a remake
Have you seen the Wii version? This is absolutely NOT just an HD port.
This game has new models and backgrounds, animations it's not a HD Port xD
I Wonder if i will like this game more then triple deluxe which is my favorite game of all time
I feel like this game is kinda a hard sell for me when I already own the original and for the price of $20. I know they overhauled the visuals and I respect that, but just don’t know about that price.
I’d $45 is the spot because this is a remake with new additions and epilogue is worth $10 on its own so on that point is fair. Physical copy may get to that price months after release
There's also a lot of new content. You're missing out if you don't buy it.
@@dreamsdeep1076 I think you also have to consider that this is not just a port, but that they made new models, etc.
But yeah, if 60€ is too much for you, I'm sure the price will drop or you could get a used copy if you wait a bit ^^
It’s pretty solid!
This one or star allies?
Based on the general reception of the original version of this game, go for Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe, not Star Allies. I personally think Star Allies is a great game too though, so if you think you want more after you play this, try out Star Allies or its Demo.
@@Grindelsire cool thank you! I just finished kirby crystal shards and kirby adventure on the nes last week and kinda fiending for more chill kirby action

Never star allies
This is the first time in awhile Nintendo made a good port
Ive never even owned a Kirby game. I have played demos and ones on the Nintendo Switch Libraries though, but I have never owned an actual physical copy or anything.
Don't bother with star allies, it's just disappointing. You should play Robobot on the 3ds if you can.

Kirby games tend to be always good
I just bought this game today for my switch oled let me tell u i am hook this game is so much fun to play 😃
Kirby is always worth it 💗 fantastic review !
I sincerely hope Kirby gets an exreme hard story mode in the future. Kirby is cool, but way way too easy.
this! i don’t know why they just include it. so simple: just let us choose the difficulty at the start and done…
Yet another good Review of the Game in pair with GameXplain Review
can we get 500 likes on the video?

This review is a good.
I love this Kirby game!
I'm glad they stuck with the American name in the West, because calling it Kirby's Adventure Wii Deluxe would've been awkward considering that it's for the Switch.
