Really liked the professional help Arlo got towards the end of the video. Sometimes it is necessary to call in the experts when things get tough.
For sure! I wonder how much Arlo had to pay to get an expert like that
glad the expert took time out of his busy schedule for his insight!
An expert's eye does bring an air of legitimacy to this review.
Spoiler alert!
@@hisboychugga *her
I completely forgot this game came out this year, and I played the entire thing lmao
Hello nathaniel I do cocaine
No way real NB1!1!1!1!1!1!1
Me too lol
Oh yeah me too
yeah ive been worried about more pikmin-related things
The hilarity of the edit at 17:47 can not be understated
Why is nobody else mentioning lmao
I thought I lost my mind for a moment.
It really caught me off guard
OH LOG
It caught me so off guard, that I just laughed myself silly for a few minutes. 😆
Arlo's five-year journey to understand Kirby is one of the greatest character arcs in media
Yeah
We've officially come full circle bois
@@theonetrueboxman7361 "full circle" I see what you did there
It needs to be studied
Boy, Arlo's really letting that _Pikmin 4_ review cook all the way through, huh? Well, nothing like some classic style Kirby goodness in the meantime. I'm glad Arlo and his nephew had fun with it.
You mean tears of the kingdom review?
This review has been close to complete for a bit, and so Arlo is probably getting this one out while still recovering.
do not rush this man on his pikmin
I’ve been waiting for him to at least have a video on it. Not expecting a full review but kind of weird he’s been silent about it.
Not sure if he's even been able to play Pikmin 4 after what happened to him
I love how Arlo's nephew is becoming a game critic just like his uncle!
Like uncle, like nephew
I had the same thought to as I'm watching right now and at the end. Newphew is slowly turning into a true mini Arlo himself with his side of the review. lol Love that he's becoming a frequent guest lately.
He's growing up so fast 🥲
@@lilmrb1276 genuine question. Is Arlos "cousin" actually Arlos puppeter's son?
@@shigerumiyamoto9612 I think so, but I just refer to him as Arlo's nephew.
Cannot wait for the upcoming "Why Kirby Return to Dream Land deluxe is a masterpiece" 3 hour video essay by Arlo's nephew in 20 years.
Man, now Arlo _really_ needs to play the 3DS Kirby games now that we know he likes playing as characters that have a core moveset at all times
When he started talking about how much magolor epilogue clicked with him my brain immediately shifted to dedede-tour and meta knightmare, those two characters are a blast to play as and the level design of triple deluxe and planet robobot definitely help
@@ErikTheCleric Well, I hope he can get over the timer like in helper to hero. That it bothered him before was really silly. Normally you ignore the timer knowing that it's literally only for speedrunning, which you can get drawn into on subsequent playthroughs. The time on the first playthrough is either a novelty or a baseline. Perhaps he'll discover how silly of a complaint it is while playing those modes!
Shout out to Quilin, King of all Gamers for going above and beyond for his playthrough of Kirby at 111% and helping his Uncle with his review
GOAT
shoutout to Arlo for introducing his nephew to quality games and hopefully keeping him away from mobile trash
Interviewing your nephew about these games is legit gonna be really good for the kid. Giving him a way to express his thoughts about games will help him a lot in life. Seems like it's already giving him the tools to think critically about media and that's huge for development.
I'm so happy to see Kirby being redeemed in Arlo's eyes. I hope you're able to try the 3DS games someday! Those two are considered some of the best in the series. It'd be interesting to see you return to Star Allies after that as well, since they're considered a quadrilogy of sorts
I'd also suggest Superstar Ultra, Epic Yarn, and Air Ride if he can get his hands on it.
Robobot is great and star allies is crap
Lets not forget amazing mirror
He was just wrong cause he played star allies and that's a fanservice game, not a newcomer game
@AsecasJavi Any mainline game in this series should be (and has been) a good game for newcomers.
Star Allies is just the one dud in a series of great (but not OMG GENRE DEFINING) games and none of the fanservice slapped onto it can redeem that.
It's still an okay game, but it should have been so much more than that.
“this game left me tickled pink” are the words you were looking for, Arlo
Oh my goodness, your nephew's review was the best part of this video. It's so cute hearing someone be so excited and passionate about Nintendo games like I used to be when I was 7. Melts my heart, great video as always Arlo ❤
There is such a pureness to him saying what his favorite abilities were. Protect him Arlo. We need more good ones out there. Btw, my fav from this and the original was Ninja too lol
Arlo's nephew is the best thing that has ever happened to this channel. Whenever he talks about a game he loves I just have a stupid smile on my face the entire time. He's so enthusiastic and an absolute joy!
Glad that Arlo got around to trying this one. Star Allies really isn't a great starting point to the franchise.
Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are two games that expand more on Return to Dream Land's formula, would recommend.
I second this, especially in regards to Planet Robobot; that game is a masterpiece, and my favourite Kirby game in the series
the entry gimmicks got stronger across this trilogy, The super abilities were limited but flashy and occasionally compelling, the super inhale in triple deluxe felt like it was always the most fun version of the Super abilities each time. And then the mechs in planet robobot ended up being an AMAZING core gameplay addition that takes the flash from the previous two and makes it a genuinely deep extension to Kirby's abilities
17:47 Are we all supposed to ignore that? Why does it cut to a monkey sawing a branch??!
RIGHT? No one is talking about it!
Because he is an ape who said "prologue" instead of "epilogue."
He said "prologue" instead of "epilogue". It was a funny edit to acknowledge his mess up. I didn't get it at first either! 😅
Is this game a Dream Land to Return to?
Or is it destined for Halcandra?

While I do also like the masks, I wish we got to play as the actual characters the masks are based off of in magoland, being able to play as Daroach while smacking a bomb with a frying pan whilst aiming at Adeleine is a funny image in my mind that I wish we could’ve gotten
Yeah, absolutely. The masks definitely allowed for a lot more variety without taking up dev time, but unlockable bonus characters would've been sweet. Honestly they could probably make a standalone Magoland game that has even more minigames, more characters, and maybe a party mode, and that'd be a great $20 eShop game.
If they remake the rest of this Kirby Trilogy, I can guarantee that you’ll love it. Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are unforgettable!
Also, if the unchanging copy ability mode was your favorite, then your in luck, since both games have their own modes like this!
Arlo's nephew appreciating the buttery smooth framerate and lack of lag gives me hope for humanity
Arlo: "But BOY it does make me sad that there isn't more Kirby content like THIS out there."
Oh you sweet summer child. You just haven't played enough Kirby to know that there's TONS of game modes where you don't have to play as Kirby.. eespecially on the 3DS titles...
It’s so adorable seeing his nephews perspective of the game.
Only Kirby would make micro transactions the final boss in one of their games
Oh hey its you again
microtransactions deserve to die
I mean, for story reasons, I can't imagine Magolor Epilogue being playable BEFORE clearing Story mode.
Planet Robobot and Triple Deluxe also have post game modes where you play as a single character for the entire game. If you like Magolor Epilogue, those modes provide a similar feeling
That sneak flash at 17:48 was hilarious 😂
This was my first Kirby game and playing Deluxe was just an absolute delight. So much nostalgia
Ha! Your first Kirby game only had one Deluxe. Mine had three of them.
The things Arlo doesn't like about Kirby is having to learn the strengths/weakness of the copy abilities & losing them when taking damage? The damage thing can feel random, losing abilities sometimes but not others, but learning the movesets in a game that can be beaten without using a single one seems like a small ask of the player.
I've learned to appreciate each and every ability. Sure some are better than others, but like there's so many possible ways to take each challenge on and it's always fair.
You mentioned the problem.
"learning the movesets in a game that can be beaten without using a single one"
Why spend the time/effort, especially since when learning you get hit hence losing it hence discourages learning.
It is the same thing with why some people take issue with durability systems. It discourages learning and experimentation because you either can't afford to lose it or it is so common it isn't worth trying to learn.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 You do realize that (a) the abilities are plentiful & have complete movesets on the pause menu, (b) enemies respawn by moving away slightly from their spawn, (c) it's not difficult to regain your lost ability thanks to a generous amount of invincibility frames after getting hit, & (d) Arlo criticized the lack of challenge yet thinks balancing abilities & not getting hit in freaking KIRBY too much hassle.
Kinda funny how the things he mentioned disliking are pretty much what makes a kirby game, having to adapt to situations on the fly when you lose an ability and floating with the lovable pink ball.
You sold the Magolor portion of the game so well I want to get it purely just for that. I've always been interested in the epilogue, but this is the first time I've actually seen gameplay of it. It LOOKS as satisfying as it sounds, and the gameplay loop is right up my alley. As soon as you said you'd want to play an entire Magolor spinoff I was immediately nodding in agreement, and I'm sad it doesn't exist now lmao
I think you should keep the puns at the beginning of your reviews. They’re iconic!
5:39 Forgotten Land DOES have something like this. Star Allies too. Every main Kirby game has some harder post game content, this idea starting out in Super Star Ultra
Also the point about Return to dreamland's level design could come from the fact that this IS a remaster of the Wii version, an older Kirby game that's the first of its kind.
This was such a nice surprise! Glad to see arlo playing more of the pink puffball's adventures
Yes please to the idea of Magolor having his own game. I'd kill for that since he's my favorite Kirby character.
Arlo is slowly becoming a Kirby master. The gameplay is pretty good.
Arlo teaching about spoiler safety makes me want to convert to Arloism.
I remember playing this game back on the Wii with my sibling many years ago. Seeing it get a remaster was bringing ALL of those wonderful memories back.
We still got long ways to go to 100% the main game, True Arena, and Extra Mode. Sadly, adult life is an issue
Oh are you playing the new one with your sibling too?
@BJGvideos Yeah. We both loved Kirby's Return to Dreamland on the Wii. Sadly they work in the afternoon and I work in the evening, plus with College in the morning has made it tough to find a time to continue playing
@@captainseg Ah yes. Hopefully someday you'll find time together! A day off on the same day, a holiday, whatever. And then you can pop a big bowl of popcorn and relive your childhoods!
@@BJGvideos Thanks
@@captainsegwhatever you two do, make sure to beat the true arena together. This remaster's true arena is an absolute trip, best one of the entire Kirby series
As someone with a 7 year old brother who is very into Kirby, hearing your nephew’s thoughts on the game made my day!
Unfortunately the arena is going to be easy with just about any copy ability once you know how the bosses work. There is, however, a MUCH more difficult and (in my opinion) more interesting boss rush waiting for you after you beat extra mode!
This game has--and I cannot stress this enough--AMAZING MUSIC.
Honestly, I'm surprised they've managed to go this entire year since RtDL DX without announcing or releasing a new Kirby game, only rereleasing old ones for NSO, but also I feel like they're just going to announce another one in the September Direct, and so the Kirby will ride simply never end
I wouldn't be surprised if they save the next big Kirby release for the Switch's successor
Unpopular opinion, but I needed a break from kirby to have time to play other games. They did so much during the anniversary that kirby had a monopoly on my time. Now I'm able to enjoy other franchises like adventures of lolo, also by HAL. That's right; for a bit HAL was so productive I couldn't play other HAL games
I don't watch a lot of your vids, Arlo, but I decided to watch this one as I'm a _big_ Kirby fan since literally the very beginning. As a fellow uncle, I found it heartwarming that you asked your nephew for his insight on the game, too. My nephew is a year older than yours, and he discovered the wonders of Kirby this past Christmas when his parents got him "Forgotten Land" for his Switch. It made me a _very_ proud uncle, and I look forward to sharing the rest of the series with him. Keep up the great work, man!
Can’t wait to watch a review for a game I already completed and loved
The segment at the end with your nephew was simply adorable, made my heart melt. I love that you took him seriously too, lots of people wouldn't ask kids genuine questions unfortunately
While I do enjoy Arlo his almost addictive like obsession with games being hard is where I will never see eye to eye with him. I'm fine with a challenge, I've got all the achievements in Elden Ring but I'm not constantly wanting a challenge. Sometimes I just want to breeze though a game.
omg Quilin's "fine" to not spoiling the game had me guffawing
Ngl I thought Arlo wasn’t gonna review this game since it’s been awhile since it came out! Happy to see more Kirby content!
I honestly really want to see an entire kirby game of just minigames. It wouldn't have to be like mario party or anything, just a nice little minigame collection. It would probably be $15 to $20 and have 15 to 20 minigames with a mix of old and new and some missions to give some insensitive to play.
This talk about the problems of the copy ability, is something that Forgotten Land really fixed. You can level up your copy abilities, and even change the way they function. Something that would be greatly appreciated in a future Kirby game, gives you a sense of progress. Maybe getting gold or platinum medals in the challenges could offer an upgrade to the copy ability it's testing. Stuff like that.
The Secret True Arena Final Boss and its music is already worth my money
YESSSSS!!!! I love Magolor, I'm so glad you're a fan, too! I would adore a Magolor spin-off game!
23:09 "At least it didn't suck!" "I guess it really was deluxe!"
Arlo should be happy to know that Magolor's Epilogue is actually really similar modes included in some of the other great Kirby games, like Planet Robobot.
Always love a nephew cameo. Cool to hear him growing up over the years.
Arlo’s nephew is so adorable oh my god
Well I would definitely say that Arlo thought this game was a DREAM instead of a NIGHTMARE.
There’s your pun Arlo
That pro-log bit broke me 😂
I wasn't sold on the outlines either, but my personal theory is that they're done like that because one of the only issues I found with the original Wii game was when you have 4 people playing, it can be easy to lose track of your specific location or get too clumped up with the others, so the outlines can help a lot in that regard.
it borrows a little bit of everything that makes Kirby fun.
17:18 monkey jump scare. I haven’t played this game since the Wii version and didn’t finish it for whatever reason, but I loved it
I love Quinn the 'expert' brought in at the end.
"I like the sliding around"
"Oh yea the framerate is higher and smooth"
"yea but I like literally sliding around."
i'd by magalors mode if it was standalone, though what you described sounds like something that's been a part of kirby for a long time, you either get a super copy ability that kind of works for everything puzzly or get to play as metaknight or dedede, streamlining the game.
You genuinely got a guffaw out of me with that superstar pun. I was genuinely concerned that you didn't want try to write a joke at the beginning and was worried about you. I promise your jokes land with me! I'll never forget your joke when you covered one of the Luigi's mansion 3 info drops and started by saying "I've got three words for you. Lu- i- gisMansionThree"
I feel like the pikmin 4 review is also gonna take a decade
I dunno
wait a few months and give him some time
Wait did you edit this
@@Blacknwhite.. yes yes I did
My only real disappointment with this game as a remake of the original is there are just a couple little bits of content that they could have included to make it the truly definitive version that aren't there. There's a minigame in the Wii version where you fight some mech versions of classic Kirby bosses by shooting at them with the pointer, and I remember having fun with that one. Especially with how many minigames are in Deluxe, it's strange that one from RtDL Wii isn't there. There are also some extra ability challenges as a bonus in the Kirby Dream Collection, including some pretty neat races against Magolor. With those using the RtDL mechanics and aesthetic, it would've been nice to see them wrapped into the remake since they always sort of felt like honorary parts of the game.
That Kirby pun had me cackling for hours, you should do stand-up comedy
Great review. Loved the pro input at the end!
This is honestly my favorite Kirby game of all time! Well the original one, I never played this version yet.
Also there's actually no such thing as a bad Kirby game, that's something Kirby fans can all agree on.
True, but there is a distinction between the decent one and the GOOD ones.
@@king_poyo64 True, I mean they are all good ones...but there are better and worse ones.
Being the uncle who gets to share the hobby with their nephews is the coolest thing ever. Im having such a blast with my nephew. Need to pick this up
The end bit with Arlo’s Nephew is just the cutest thing
I really liked that you brought the expert in (nephew). I sometimes forget how cool it is to just really love a game as a kid. Finally figuring something out or just getting through a tough level is wonderful. Thanks you two!
The lack of an intro pun actually bummed me out a bit. I don't even like puns, but it's a nice, fun tradition to have in the reviews; just a bit sad 😅
Lol I love how Arlo says “what do you mean” with such accusation when his nephew said he said he likes the sliding
If you do even up losing the puns at the opening its okay. Your content is always good. And I love the little nephew is getting to voice his views. Maybe he will be like his uncle Arlo! ❤
The kid is really well spoken for 7. That’s adorable.
Cool review! By the way, both 3DS Kirby games have extra modes where you play as one character with a more set moveset, Dedede for Triple Deluxe and Meta Knight for Planet Robobot. Can't remember if they're post game only, but they seem like they'd be up your alley with how you liked Magolor Epilogue
I wasn’t as young as your nephew is when the original came out, let alone when I got the game for myself, but hearing him talk about it made the fact that kids are going to be growing up with this remaster like how I grew up with the original really hit home, and it’s just such a nice feeling. The game was something me and my brother would play almost every day for a while when we got home from school and it helped me form a lot of important memories, so it just makes me feel happy to know that the game is going to be a part of the lives of more people.
Your cousin is so cute! ❤
I'm glad you're coming around with the Kirbo games, Arlo. I have similar quibbles, especially about Kirby's movement and hit box (in relation to the map confinement) but it's so charming, I usually end up forgiving most of that stuff when I play with friends.
17:47 That really got me oh my goodness
This game is my childhood so I am glad it got a full remaster
One thing that's a little disappointing to me is how much of the motion controls were hidden or removed! It's very VERY good that all the motion was remapped, but I think it took away a bit of the game for me.
A lot of the Super Abilities used to rely on shaking or aiming the remote, and now they're just button presses. I can't remember if you can still just shake it, but I know you can't aim with the Flare Beam.
Shaking when inhaling makes the MAX inhale activate faster, so it's really useful in the dimension segments, and I don't think many people utilized it, since they never tell you that's a thing.
Spark's energy shield/blast can be charged up by shaking, which is incredibly useful, and that's another thing that I don't think the game tells you. It almost feels like a lot of the motion control stuff was kept--- but swept under the rug. So you wouldn't know it's there unless you've played the original and know how _that_ works.
Some of the Merry Magoland games are also better with motion controls. Mainly Kirby on the Draw and the target one. Kirby on the Draw specifically is so much more fun with motion. Make sure you use a joycon though, because the Pro Controller's motion aiming is oddly terrible compared to games like Super Mario Galaxy or 3D World.
As someone who played the original 12 years ago, I can say that this remaster was incredibly good in my opinion. From the graphical improvements to the extra modes, it was super fun and very replayable. Especially when it comes to the boss rush modes, I'm very big into those challenges when it comes to Kirby games. The True Arena definitely caught me by surprise on how challenging it was (before I discovered that King Dedede is absolutely busted in this game. Now my personal best time is currently 15:00!) I wasn't expecting to fight all the alternate bosses, on top of the DX versions!
And there's just one small gripe I have about one of my favorite copy abilities in the Kirby series; the Hammer ability. In my opinion, I hate that you have to charge the Hammer Flip move now in order to maximize damage instead of it being automatic like in the older games. Don't know if they did that to nerf the move, but it can be a little annoying to use against certain enemies at times. I've noticed that it's been a trend since Star Allies (but in Star Allies HF was pretty useless anyway since you could just spam Hammer Throw without losing your ability).
Other than that, I really loved this remaster, and I only hope that Nintendo either ports Triple Deluxe or Planet Robobot.
Always a pleasure when Arlo uploads a new video. :)
Loved hearing words from the gaming expert at the end. Left a huge smile on my face. Reminds me how much I love games.
Your nephew sounds so precious, so glad you brought in the expert for his professional opinion on all things kirby.
Enjoyed this game a lot! Good job on the review! Liked the edit at 17:47 lol.
As someone who grew up playing return to dreamland on my wii, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Until forgotten land I had really lost interest in other Kirby games but I always enjoy playing return to dreamland and the deluxe version is just a straight upgrade.
I hope Epic Yarn eventually gets ported.
I bought this and Forgotten Land a month or so ago and had Stsr Allies for awhile but hadn't done much on it but have been playing them sporadically and enjoying them all.
Loved the ending, friggin adorable
Great review! You've convinced me, I'll definitely check this game out. The only other Kirby game I've played is Planet Robobot and when you beat that game you unlock a mode where you play through the game as Meta Knight, I'm pretty sure it also has different bosses from the original, but it's been a while.
17:46 You know Arlo's having a good time when the monkey pull up. 🔥
17:48 (0_0) This jumpscared me for some reason. 😂
I really enjoy the way you articulate yourself, Arlo. I've never played this game but I love Kirby as a franchise. Your review and Journey to understand Kirby I think is so fun to hear and interesting! Defs got me interested in the Magalor Epilogue too!
With that being said, why is the an orangutan sawing a tree branch at @17:47 ?
I was wondering thatq
The last few minutes of this was the most pure thing I've seen in a while
That orangutan sawing away at that log warmed my heart. ☺️🪚🪵🐵
I was happy you finally came up with the best pun of the century, and just in he knick of time!
The fact that Arlo loves Magolor makes me feel personally validated 😊
Also, I loved your nephew’s review - he’s a TRUE Kirby fan! ❤🫡
Arlo: I wish there was something more like magalor epilogue, but there's no kirby games like it!
Superstar Ultra's Meta Knightmare mode: Allow me to introduce myself
Listening to your nephew reminded me so much of how it felt playing Kirby when I was a kid and I just 😭😭💜💜
Oh my gosh, your nephew at the end melted my heart.
Hes cooking up the Pikmin 4 review real good, i just know it.
You’ll be shocked to know, that’s absolutely not the case lol
