    Great video and seems like a solid camera! About silent mode, i'm using the A7R mark II and dang the silent shutter on that one is crazy, it literally doesn't make a sound :) Also i'm giving this camera a go soon hopefully.

    fantastic review---now I'm in dire straits---owning a 1DC but really needing the AF features of the 1DX2! I did a search to see what the scuttlebutt was regarding the coming 1DC Mk II, but bupkis.
    Cory, what do you base your information on that there is a 1DC mk II coming or in the works? And any idea when it might be released? I love the image of the 1DC so much I'll save and wait for it.
    PS: Andrew Reid just produced a very high quality version of C-Log that works very, very much like standard Canon C-Log. I've tested it on the 1DC--and the results are not identical but very, very close. And he has three beautiful C-Log LUTS that grade up beautifully...and they work well with his and Canon's version of C-Log.
    This version of C-Log from Reid, the three LUTS, and 7 really amazing cinema custom profiles can be loaded into any Canon DSLR, including the 1DX Mk II. I put it in my 1DC---and it is not only very similar to the standard C-log, but the AF function also works---it doesn't with Canon's C-log on the 1DC. I also put it on an 80D--you load them in just like you would load in Cinestyle or any other third party custom pic profile.
    Enough about C-log. What do you know about a possible 1DC Mk 2?

    Hi Great review but of more interest to serious video shooters is your announcement at 8.40s of the pending release of the new 1DC Mk II which you say 'is coming soon'? Could you perhaps qualify this by clarifying where you got this information from?
    Regards,
    Fiona

    I'd jump ship if they did add 4K out and Clog, sell all my Nikon gear and buy the 1DXmkii, maybe in a firmware update.
    Ideally use a better 4k codec, not Motion JPEG as the file size is huge.

    While dynamic range isn't quite as good as some other full frame models that aren't capable of the performance of this pro dslr, the Canon 1dx mii never the less offers leading- class dynamic range, with very significant improvements over its predecessor and main competitor at low to moderate iso's.
    There is more important things to consider,when I choose a camera, Ergonomics,ease of operation and fast frame rate. I want a camera who's custom features aren't burried in multiple banks. I love a fast responsive,tough and dependable,one touch system and Canon has always met these criteria's.

    I have a suggestion, 1DX MK III, Mirrorless, keep the same body, by keeping the same body you can add a lot of stuff when you remove the moving parts and keep the camera from overheating, Full frame, Same lenses, EVF, GPS Bluetooth, NFC, WI-FI, 23 FPS, with a IPAD like Flip touchscreen with cellular capabilities that you can control everything on the camera from, updated chips, electronics, focus points that cover the entire sensor,... streamline the menu even more so, Duel c-fast card slots or whatever Superfast card is out by then, better iso, remove aa filter, Make the skin of the camera With a bit more grip. Canon would corner the market.

  • @aaronjonellhall1937
    @aaronjonellhall1937 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It doesn't use pixel binning, just crop, no binning. I agree with everything else you said. The 4k is phenomenal

    • @Faymusmedia
      @Faymusmedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1080p uses full frame. 1080p is significantly smaller than full frame. Too much sensor usage results in pixel binning and/or line skipping. There is no other way as full frame does not equal 1080p. Otherwise we would get 5k video.

    • @aaronjonellhall1937
      @aaronjonellhall1937 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you're saying it uses pixel binning at 1080p. Interesting

    • @Faymusmedia
      @Faymusmedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In 1080p binning and possible line skipping yes. 1080p does not come direct from a full frame sensor the image must be processed and downsized.

    • @kennikuhlmann-clark9860
      @kennikuhlmann-clark9860 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      too bad it didn't also have a 1080p (or 2k) crop mode using the same area of the sensor as 4k does..... That would be sharper (and might even allow for 180 fps or more?)..... you see, these are the things where the EOS 1DC ii might be given the edge (assuming one is coming -- and I suspect it is, just more different from the 1DX than the mark i was (I hope))

    • @aaronjonellhall1937
      @aaronjonellhall1937 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. They should have used oversampling. If it can do 4k, they should have at least oversampled the 1080p like the C300 does. What a shame.

    Imagine the Canon 1DX Mark II in the hands of Abraham Zapruder; a 26 second, 4K 60 frames
    per second video, on November 22nd, 1963: That most famous home movie in history, with over
    1500 frames instead of a measly 624 at only 24 frames per second, with that state of the art
    Bell and Howell. Perhaps the microscopic details would be amazing, in the spirit of revelation?
    Get the picture? Yes we see?

    Dear Faymusmedia,
    First of all, I added an comment saying I am sorry about my comment about framegrab, because you mentioned it late in your review, but I didn't see you tried it. About the 4K you don't mention, that in the D500 it's 10 times 3 minutes put together to 30 minutes. Is the same in the update of the D5? or has update to both Cameras solved that?
    Well, you don't mention my comment about the raw files?
    In fact I do like most of your reviews, and I sorry, that you feel disrespect, but I was very disappointed, when I saw your review of the Canon Eos 1DX Mark II - I still miss your comment to the numbers of raw files in one burst - compressed and uncompressed raw files. I have investigated that long time before I saw your review, and the answer from high professional people was, that the 200 raw files in one burst for the D5 are compressed, and that the D5 manages about 73-77 uncompressed raw files in one burst. Compared to that I know for a fact the 1DX Mark II manages 170 uncompressed 14 bit raw files in one burst.
    I will continue to se your video reviews with respect, but in the future I will also be disappointed, when I get feeling that a full review isn't a full review.
    Yours respectfully
    Christian Rasmussen

    Really if you shot Canon camera you wouldn't need a light on it to find the buttons. I like my battery to work at capturing pictures and I don't care much for NIKON. Once you buy a few lens, why would you change? You should go back to your NIKON because Canon won't make you happy. If you like Canon Clog you can download it and add it to the camera. I know I have the 1 dx and it has Canon C-log...

    • @trevorpinnocky
      @trevorpinnocky 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just logically we know Canon is actively protecting its cinema line (which does not use this codec). a $6k that records 4k to an old codec internally but does not output 4k via HDMI is blatantly crippled. there are people who argue for mjpeg, but not many.
      the file sizes produced are just overkill for what you're getting. 1min of 4k is probably on the order of 4GB meaning you'll chew through a 64GB in what 15 minutes?
      Brilliant stills camera. very average video camera with the obvious exception that nothing else in this range does 4k 60fps internally (i have a sneaky suspicion the gh5 may find some way to pull this off just for bragging rights)

    • @Faymusmedia
      @Faymusmedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are indeed protecting the C lineup. mjpeg does have larger files however much better for grading than h.264. This is basically a 1DC with upgraded 60fps 4K, 120fps HD. The only thing lacking would be the HDMI out 4K and c-log. There are a few picture profiles for a good flat picture. 4K clean out HDMI would be the one thing they could add that would definitely make it much better than it already is.

    • @trevorpinnocky
      @trevorpinnocky 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I were Canon and wanted to make waves I would can the mjpeg, substitute it with h.264 but add the option for raw (cinemadng). And add 4k 24/30p via HDMI with ProRes LT/422/HQ.
      No c-log? total brain scratcher. and so far the people who have put out c-log copies (EOS HD and James Miller, look terrible). disappointing.
      Then you've have a legitimate winner. I think they're a bit paranoid about cannabalizing their market. True be told, if I'm looking for the advantages, especially ergonomically, that the C100/C300 offer, I'm not going to buy a 1DX II or even a 1DC. The form factor is completely wrong. And the clients I'm hoping to appeal would wonder what the heck was going on when I pull a stills camera out and put it on sticks (maybe unjustifiably so, but that's another argument. But appearances are appearances).
      right now Canon is developing products like a scared company. They're still a beast, but they need to act like it.
      :)

      First, The Nikon D5 can shoot up to 30 minutes in 4K with the latest firmware update. I addressed that in the D5 video.
      Second, if you watch this entire video you would clearly see that I explained about the frame grab. Go to 36:00 mark.

  • @christianrasmussen7965

    When are you Guys gone a learn, that when the Canon 1DX Mark II shoots the 170 raw files in one burst, they are UNCOMPRESSED, and that the raw files are COMPRESSED, WHEN the Nikon D5 shoots 200 raw files in one burst?
    The Nikon D5 shoots only about 73-77 uncompressed raw files in one burst !
    You would know that, if you had done your homework properly

    • @michael.burman
      @michael.burman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      D5 files are lossless compressed, so there's no downside being compressed (only upsides). The fact that Canon can't do that is not an advantage.

    • @christianrasmussen7965
      @christianrasmussen7965 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @michael.burman

      Lossless means there's no image information lost. That's what it means, it's not an opinion to one way or another.

    • @charlesBenincasa
      @charlesBenincasa 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Burman lossless is a figurative concept all Raw codes have some form of compression it's just a lot less then jpeg so your apple color correct white balance adjust ISO etc a lot easier but there is no such thing as complete lossless the file size would be Alot larger then the raw files. FACT!!

    • @michael.burman
      @michael.burman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, lossless is not a figurative concept. Lossless means exactly what it says, no information is lost in the compression phase. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossless_compression should get you started with the ideology. In lossless algorithms, in basic math there's an injection that maps the points from compressed to uncompressed form. No exceptions. JPEG is a lossy compression method, but please don't mix that with compression algorithms that are lossless.
