  • Canon EOS 1DX is a beast of a camera and at a price tag of $6000 it has to deliver some serious value.
    Amazons Price; amzn.to/2ucHbSP
    Battery Pack: amzn.to/2poNUTQ
    The flagship Canon DSLR does offer some incredible features like 4k recording capabilities, at 60fps and full HD videos at 120fps.
    The updated 20-megapixel full-frame sensor in the 1D X II is more than just a standard CMOS chip with a higher resolution; it's the first full-frame sensor with Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology.
    Dual Pixel CMOS AF with its on-chip phase-detect autofocus sensors not only helps for super-quick autofocusing for Live View still image shooting, but also for quick, accurate and smooth AF operation for videos.

    Professionals use the 1DX because it doesn't fail. I have watched guys using this camera at golf tournaments in all kinds of weather including in the pouring rain. They scramble around to different positions and take thousands of shots in a day, yep thousands. The camera can focus like nobody's business. The camera sounds like a machine going off. These guys need a camera that can perform so that they get paid. It's that simple. This camera is designed for heavy load work and to capture high speed action and special moments. That is what you pay for.

    The Canon 1DX Mark II is my workhorse now for all Wildlife work. What a stunning camera, even in 2019. Together with my Canon 600mm 4.0 III this camera really delivers, what a combo. I would say this is one of the best cameras ever made by Canon. Still worth to get one in 2019!

    P does not mean "Professional" it stands for "Program". This is a superb camera imo. Even when and if a mark 3 comes out,I would rather have another 1DX Mark 2 body. Mainly because I know that it is tried and true, and will deliver awesome results.

    I shot two days of youth Futsal this weekend with my new to me 1DX ii, and the camera was incredible. Focus was insanely fast and accurate, the jpgs with low high iso noise reduction selected, were perfectly usable at iso 12800. There were instances where it refused to focus, or jumped onto a person in the background, and it cost me a handful of great shots but overall it was overwhelmingly brilliant. In 2022, is it still relevant? Silly question, the camera didn’t stop being brilliant just because the 1DX mkiii and R3 now exist. 😁

    While dynamic range isn't quite as good as some other full frame models that aren't capable of the performance of this pro dslr, the Canon 1dx mii never the less offers leading- class dynamic range, with very significant improvements over its predecessor and main competitor at low to moderate iso's.
    There is more important things to consider,when I choose a camera, Ergonomics,ease of operation and fast frame rate. I want a camera who's custom features aren't burried in multiple banks. I love a fast responsive,tough and dependable,one touch system and Canon has always met these criteria's.

    I love how you are using the non IS 500mm f 4.5L lens. I had that for years and it’s a great lens!! I try to tell everyone about that lens, but people don’t listen to me and get the 100-400mm instead. And then they just leave their zoom lenses locked at 400mm anyway. I actually made my money back when I sold it also. A real hidden gem, and lightweight!!

      The biggest thing is that it is a robust camera that can handle a big work load. It can handle practically any kind of weather conditions. It can focus like nobody's business. That is what you pay for. The camera can deliver. If you are getting paid to deliver photos, then you have to have a camera that won't fail.

    • @SLRTom
      @SLRTom  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically focus in very high contrast situation may not be reliable. I'd say if anything the Mark II is just a tiny bit better but I haven't compared to the 1dx mk1 for that specific reason.

    • @Minhute
      @Minhute 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically in this situation I look down at their bodies, focus there and make slight adjustments when necessary. Usually hits that focus point really well.

    • @michaelscoots
      @michaelscoots 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Minhute thanks and yes, I do that as well or when there is contrast on the subject(dark hair against the dress) I move the point there. Just wondering if this has been improved on the 1D X II. I've owned every 1D since the 1D MKII - that camera had no issues and the 1D MII N was equally amazing and incredible at tracking in servo.

    Thanks for the video. I am contemplating between 5d mark 4 and 1dx mark 2. I am interested in the frame rate as I shoot lot of birds. But can you tell me, how bad it is when you have to crop it a lot. Defenitely 5d Mark 4 has an advantage there, but I want to know if that is a reason to not buy 1Dx Mark 2.

    • @SLRTom
      @SLRTom  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If money is no object than the 1Dx Mark 2 wins every time. Doesn't matter how many pixels you have if the photo is not in focus. If you shoot birds, especially birds in flight, then the 1Dx is a clear winner in my mind. Also you'll be shooting in higher iso's to freeze motion, so there the 1Dx wins as well. If you shoot portraits, or landscapes, then the 5D maybe a bit better choice.

    • @SLRTom
      @SLRTom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That seems to be about going rate for that camera, with this kind of usage. I'd check historical pricing on ebay, and user forums like Fredmiranda, to see how much they sell for.

    • @artistjoh
      @artistjoh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Josek 24,000 means that by 1Dx standards this is almost a new camera. It still has hundreds of thousands of shots in front of it. If you have never had a 1Dx before you will love the camera and will always be pleased that you bought at that price with extras. Seriously, if you are dangling down a cliff on a rope and being buffeted by the wind, there is no other camera you will want in your hand. Once you go 1Dx you never can go back. Ultimately, getting a 7D as a second body is the perfect combination for anyone who ever shoots action.

      Danish Khan this camera gets updated in a slower cycle traditionally. Expect 2 years would be highly surprised if they updated it sooner. Last update was almost 4 years in between 1dx and 1dxii.

    I have a suggestion, 1DX MK III, Mirrorless, keep the same body, by keeping the same body you can add a lot of stuff when you remove the moving parts and keep the camera from overheating, full frame, Same lenses, EVF, GPS Bluetooth, NFC, WI-FI, 23 FPS, with a IPAD like flip touchscreen with cellular capabilities that you can control everything on the camera from, updated chips, electronics, focus points that cover the entire sensor,... streamline the menu even more so, duel c-fast card slots or whatever Superfast card is out by then, better iso, remove aa filter, improve the 4K, make the skin of the camera With a bit more grip. Canon would corner the market.

Not all lens are equal! Canon is plenty good with glass pro's need. We've been shooting with them for years. Meanwhile Sony still has nothing over 400mm.
