    Hello Joe, congrats on your video and your channel keep up the good work!. I want to share my 2 cents regarding the 1DX Mark II camera as a photographer. As a photography camera I want to tell you that this camera is great and it one of the complete photographic cameras out there alongside the Nikon D5 (which came out the same year 2016 as the 1DX Mark II). What is very important is to understand that these cameras are top of the line cameras for speed and press photography. The scope of this camera is to assure the photographer that you have the maximum possible photo quality, ISO speed and autofocus. These two types of "press" cameras will allow you take the photos and give your photos to the client or newspaper on the same day, if you set the correct settings these cameras will give you straight out of them the perfect jPEGs -> that doesn't mean you can't use the raw files, you can edit the raw files however you like. The price of these cameras new were aprox 6000 $ and at that price point you get everything you need at a camera except one factor that some photographers may need which is resolution. These "press" cameras give you outstanding battery life, robustness, world class weather sealing, world class autofocus tracking and autofocus precision and burst capabilities, ISO speed and customization of everything from the camera. The resolution of 20mpx it is something very unique to these two types of camera. It is widely regarded and known scientifically that the 35mm digital sensor produces the best optimal quality of pictures between 12 and 21Mpx -> or maybe pushed to 24Mpx. At this size of the sensor 35mm engineers can make the pixels as big enough to produce great images between 12 and 21mpx and to get great colors and the famous "3D pop". Beyond the 24mpx and this is my personal opinion and experience through the years using different resolution cameras things get "difficult" lets say. At beyond 24 Mpx, lets say 30mpx, 45mpx, 50mpx, etc you need astonishing great lenses to produce sharp images because optical engineers need to design the lenses to cope with the higher resolution, second most important issue is you need to have very sturdy hands because every tiny camera shake will be projected and captured on the high resolution sensor.
    I personally use this camera as my main camera as a wedding photographer. I also do other types of photography such as portraits, beauty fashion, baptism, coming of ages etc. I own this camera since 2021 and I went for it because I just love the jPEG files and the RAW files and it's made out of metal, the battery life is brilliant and the "3D pop" is there. I also already owned since 2015 and started to add my EOS EF lenses 24-70 f/2.8 mark II, 24mm 1.4L mark II, 50mm 1.2L, 85mm 1.4L IS, 100mm f/2.8L macro and 135mm f/2. As for future proof I believe for the next 3 more years I am safe, the most used lenses in my kit are the 24-70 and 85mm 1.4. If I go mirrorless then yes maybe future proof will be an R6 Mark II and if the 24-70 EF will start to break down then I will go with the 28-70 f/2. Its just an evolution of things in general. But the 1DX MK II will remain my favorite camera, close to my heart that always helped me to get good results and to grow as a photographer.
    Cheers, best of luck!
    Rares

    1Dx series for ever. Nothing beats the AF in them and the build quality. Battery last for days. Outdoor use is second to none. Cold, rain, no matter. Fast and accurate. 1Dx Mark II and Mark III is the right thing. Even the 2012 1Dx is better than most on the market as used, price is really affordable.

      Yeah the build quality is so much better.. I have the r6ll and the R8. And they feel flimsy,cheap, plastic-ish.. I kinda miss the rugged DSLR bodies

    I always had the 1D Mark III till 2018, then bought a 1DX, and did try a EOS R mirrorless camera for a while as a second body, but i couldn't get used to it, so i bought the 1D X Mark II and sold the EOS R again, and still happy with the 1D X Mark II. ( i'm not a filmer) 🍻

    Not everyone has the battery pack for the R6. A single R6 batter can darain at ~250 shots on high refresh+lcd use. The 1DX battery will last in excess of ~1250 shots before it needs a recharge.

    • @KS_1995
      @KS_1995 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even more than that. I get to about 3/4 battery life left on my 1DX II with around 1500 shots. Pretty amazing.

    • @JohnnyScuff
      @JohnnyScuff 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hm... Last week I got around 1850 photos with single LP-E6NH (3rd party one) with EVF on high refresh rate (EVF usually drains more than LCD because of refresh rate and resolution, from what I've read). Battery drained from 95% to 10%.

      @@michaeltuffin8147 CIPA battery ratings are not a literal number of the amount of shots the camera can take on a single battery. I frequently shoot 1500+ shots a battery on a Sony mirrorless with a battery CIPA rating of ~500 shots.

    I'm recently just getting back into photography. I have 3 L series lenses that are still amazing so just replaced my old old 7d (mark 1) with a 5dsr for landscapes etc cause i cant be assed with mirrorless mumbo jumbo. I can get amazing quality but its a really slow camera for every day stuff and motorsport that I regularly shoot, you reckon a 1dx II is a good choice to pair with it? or even a 1dx mark 1?

  • @blisteringbooks2428
    @blisteringbooks2428 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have been tempted to get a retro 1 series body, I jumped from a 1Ds to a 5D3, then later went mirrorless, mainly because of the AIAF, flip screen and video specs. However, the mirrorless firmware is designed to make you by RF lenses [though EF are fine] so I still use a 5D4 for Sigma lenses [and the 7D2]. The 1Dx is a pro body, only the sensors in the R series are latest tech, there seems no point in a step backwards. I have been tempted by an R7, only the R5 in crop mode does the same job, just 17mp instead of 32mp. Megapixels are overrated, as a pro, when I switched to digital I started with 2.1mp!!!

    Nice video. I shoot handball with 1DX1 + Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 G1 and R6 + 300mm F4L handheld. On the 1DX buffer is very busy and R6 sometimes struggles getting focus. Am not full time pro, I go for used Canon MK2 or MK3 70-200 and RF 300mm f/2.8, when it comes out, or 2nd R6 + RF 70-200 f/2.8.

    As I look into the 1DXii before purchasing it, I can't help but notice that almost everyone doing comparisons are doing them with mirrorless newer tech. Is it just that good a camera? Thanks for your thoughts!

      Its because they 1Dx mkii and R6 are around the same price so easy to compare from that point of view! I do actually have another video coming out on the 1Dx mkii today at 1pm

    I’ve heard that Canon in general has been dropping support for first generation of a lens. If buying EF glass buy the newest generation possible. I was using a 70-200/4.0 but it’s no longer supported by Canon. Of course a local shop can still fix it.

    • @joewhitnallphotography
