Of course he was having fun, he was cheating ridiculously. Not only was he wearing 2 vestiges, but he was attuned to 4 items. And for some reason even after his haste was dispelled he kept doing action, action, bonus action. I love Liam, mostly for the way he doesn't meta game, but I was really disappointed with his choices in this one.
Agree 100%. Loved how they were having fun but was reminded how much I always hated Vax. He was always powergaming a lot, doing things he shouldn't be able to do. Like switching daggers for his main hand mid attack. And he pouts when someone manages to hit him

Honestly I was so afraid Fjord would get downed first and early on cause that feels very on brand and even though Travis is a really good sport, he seemed to be having so much fun I didn't want him to die early. Thankfully the tides turned almost immediately and Fjord got the comeback he deserved. I honestly didn't expect Scanlan to die so quickly and especially didn't expect Beau to pretty much singlehandedly take down Vox Machina.

@@bishop6218 Nah, most/all of them are married. Travis in particular is VERY protective. They all did an interview in which they were all asked (except Travis and Laura) what it's like to be married to Laura Bailey. Most of the reactions were, "Travis/Laura/My spouse is going to kill me."

@@criticallol3039 True, but Yasha packs a mad punch as well and Caduceus is a support beast. Not even taking Caleb being kind of a secondary healer because of Polymorph into account. And don't forget, VM will have a harder time actually killing Yasha than the M9 will have killing Grog because of the Zealots Rage beyond Death! In any case, that battle will certainly be as exiting and entertaining as this fight was.

that freeze-frame to allow Matt to run over and grab the orignal Bigby's Hand mini was both funny and genuinely heartwarming. Just, the way they all knew the importance of using the original mini for nostalgia's sake. It made my critter heart happy.

I don't know the rules, but it annoys me that Beau's deflect missiles avoids necrotic and lightning damage. That seems stupid. It should only negate non magical damage.
The idea of the Percy/Molly switch like this is actually so fking genius. It accommodates the odd number of players while making it so neither team is unfairly balanced. The gem gives the regular team members something to fight over as a boon, and the odd man out still gets to play the whole time without feeling like they are unfairly beating the other team. You don't force Tal to sit on the bench nor give him a reason to feel bad for making the fight unfair. His job is to fuck up people, the others get to fight over who he gets to fuck up/how.
I think the biggest issue here is the fact that players can get knocked out permanently. If they ever do something like this again, the knocked out player should just respawn. It makes it less punishing and also means players are more likely to go for kills as it isn't game ending.

Ok hear me out, when Beau went "You?!" when she saw Molly, and his response was "What did you expect?", made me think that this Mollymauk is from a timeline where Lorenzo never killed him, he survived and kept adventuring with the nine until he got to the level we see in play here, so his confusion to why Beau is surprised to see him is because to him, he practically sees her on a daily basis, so there's no reason for anyone else to have shown up.

There's so much brutality that's borderline beyond the Mighty 9's personalities. I love it. Fjord almost dropped Pike into lava. Bau ripped Scanlans throat out. Jester used a 4th level healing spell. Insane how far these characters have come when thrown into a demonic fighting pit.
@@iwillcry And the thing is... Beau didn't WANT to kill that guy with acid, but had no choice when he was woken up. In this instance, since mercy was punishable, it's here that she could indeed be merciless. The way I see it, "Thunder Beau" is what happens when the one who normally only has a small percentage of her kills be against other humanoids ends up going full Cobra Kai. No mercy. Otherwise, no, Beau is nowhere near as ruthless as Fjord would be.
She could have morphed into something that could have enough HP so that she survived when damage carried over after transforming back. In her defense, she thought she was going to land in water and swim, she belly flopped as a goldfish on the rocks. or was it the water she hit?

This kinda highlighted how underrated Fjord's tankyness is. The whole of Vox Machina's team was targeting him from the get go and he just took it so that the other two went undamaged for a so long. His healing and locking down the casters in fog was a major contributor to their success.
Hard disagree. If Percy had actually targeted Fjord instead of Beau, and used Sharpshooter when targeting Fjord and not used Sharpshooter when targeting Beau, this battle would have gone very differently (Tal's bad rolls notwithstanding).

Between fjords teleports and creation of cover, on top of the many methods of temp hp creation, percy's shot wouldng have been nearly as effective against fjord than beau. Atleast by targeting beau, he drains her most limited resource

I've never actually watched campaign 1, so I knew Liam was a crazy cool rogue and all but this is really the first time I fully realize the WHIPLASH he must have gotten going from THAT to a squishy human wizard with a 15 ac and not even 100 hp
@@quantumofzentrix2748 rogues do get uncanny dodge and evasion at lvl 5 and 7 respectively, and their ac can get relatively high as well, so they can dodge quite a bit of damage
SPOILERS FOR CAMPAIGN 2: I love how Molly's appearance here mirrors his entire campaign 2 run: makes a flashy entrance, does some damage, fjord (almost) screws him over in combat, uses some truly crazy unique skills that hints at something greater, taken away just when his groups start to get into a good rhythm , and then appears at the end but doesn't do anything and just adds SO MUCH SASS.
Just realized that it's kind of appropriate that with the partial groups we get Fjord, Jester, and Beau, as they were a group during the first episode before combining with the others.
Matt’s got an image in my brain now of Caleb and keyleth dishing out spells, yasha and grog fist fighting, veth and vex shooting arrows and bolts, and talesin having another mental breakdown.
Just after break and I suddenly realized that despite not knowing who I want to root for, but I definitely want a tiny red weasel to crawl up on Vax and transform into Arty as it starts choking him.
@@gavinbailey36 Eh that's where your party comes into play (tougher in this case with such small parties), it opens up cool moments for other players and of course anything that feels super effective to bust out as a player tends to suck when it's used against you

For real, Laura was INSANELY brilliant with Jester's positioning and use of duplicity there. She spent the majority of the fight being tucked away in her lil' gopher hole, out of most people's line of sight, all the while getting a bunch of solid hits in. Fantastic.
@@alleycat2297 I think it's spcifically highlighted by the fact that usually, everybody knows she's using Duplicity and the DM just has to RP the ennemy getting confused. But here, it was a secret between Laura and Matt so the opposing team and the audience were genuinely taken aback by the fact that this wasn't actually Jester.

So if it had been a high roll then we might have believed that it was her and had taken damage and so might have caused more people to waste their action on her . . .
After watching this, I now want an entire post campaign two mini series where Beau goes to Whitestone on behalf of the Cobalt Soul to help the De Rolo’s investigate something (maybe residuum) and we get a whole “buddy cop” style show featuring Beau’s and Percy’s interactions with each other.

What I found really impressive about this fight was the way the Nein worked as a team to take down each VM member individually. Mollymaulk dispelling Scanlan was amazing. I wish he was on the field for longer. We only just got a taste of what he can do.
With Legend of Vox Machina Season 2 underway and the announcement of a Mighty Nein animated series in the future, I think it's time to revisit this as a fun animated crossover short

Not having any bonus actions up until the final boss fight was definitely sucking the fun out of him as Caleb.
Of course he was having fun, he was cheating ridiculously. Not only was he wearing 2 vestiges, but he was attuned to 4 items. And for some reason even after his haste was dispelled he kept doing action, action, bonus action. I love Liam, mostly for the way he doesn't meta game, but I was really disappointed with his choices in this one.

Honestly I was so afraid Fjord would get downed first and early on cause that feels very on brand and even though Travis is a really good sport, he seemed to be having so much fun I didn't want him to die early. Thankfully the tides turned almost immediately and Fjord got the comeback he deserved. I honestly didn't expect Scanlan to die so quickly and especially didn't expect Beau to pretty much singlehandedly take down Vox Machina.

@@bishop6218 Nah, most/all of them are married. Travis in particular is VERY protective. They all did an interview in which they were all asked (except Travis and Laura) what it's like to be married to Laura Bailey. Most of the reactions were, "Travis/Laura/My spouse is going to kill me."

And don't forget, VM will have a harder time actually killing Yasha than the M9 will have killing Grog because of the Zealots Rage beyond Death!
In any case, that battle will certainly be as exiting and entertaining as this fight was.

I don't know the rules, but it annoys me that Beau's deflect missiles avoids necrotic and lightning damage. That seems stupid. It should only negate non magical damage.

The idea of the Percy/Molly switch like this is actually so fking genius. It accommodates the odd number of players while making it so neither team is unfairly balanced. The gem gives the regular team members something to fight over as a boon, and the odd man out still gets to play the whole time without feeling like they are unfairly beating the other team. You don't force Tal to sit on the bench nor give him a reason to feel bad for making the fight unfair. His job is to fuck up people, the others get to fight over who he gets to fuck up/how.
And they can do it again if they ever do the other half of each team. Sam can switch between Terry and Nott/Veth
I think the biggest issue here is the fact that players can get knocked out permanently. If they ever do something like this again, the knocked out player should just respawn. It makes it less punishing and also means players are more likely to go for kills as it isn't game ending.

Ok hear me out, when Beau went "You?!" when she saw Molly, and his response was "What did you expect?", made me think that this Mollymauk is from a timeline where Lorenzo never killed him, he survived and kept adventuring with the nine until he got to the level we see in play here, so his confusion to why Beau is surprised to see him is because to him, he practically sees her on a daily basis, so there's no reason for anyone else to have shown up.

In this instance, since mercy was punishable, it's here that she could indeed be merciless. The way I see it, "Thunder Beau" is what happens when the one who normally only has a small percentage of her kills be against other humanoids ends up going full Cobra Kai. No mercy.
Otherwise, no, Beau is nowhere near as ruthless as Fjord would be.

This kinda highlighted how underrated Fjord's tankyness is. The whole of Vox Machina's team was targeting him from the get go and he just took it so that the other two went undamaged for a so long. His healing and locking down the casters in fog was a major contributor to their success.
Hard disagree. If Percy had actually targeted Fjord instead of Beau, and used Sharpshooter when targeting Fjord and not used Sharpshooter when targeting Beau, this battle would have gone very differently (Tal's bad rolls notwithstanding).

Between fjords teleports and creation of cover, on top of the many methods of temp hp creation, percy's shot wouldng have been nearly as effective against fjord than beau. Atleast by targeting beau, he drains her most limited resource

SPOILERS FOR CAMPAIGN 2: I love how Molly's appearance here mirrors his entire campaign 2 run: makes a flashy entrance, does some damage, fjord (almost) screws him over in combat, uses some truly crazy unique skills that hints at something greater, taken away just when his groups start to get into a good rhythm , and then appears at the end but doesn't do anything and just adds SO MUCH SASS.
Just realized that it's kind of appropriate that with the partial groups we get Fjord, Jester, and Beau, as they were a group during the first episode before combining with the others.
Matt’s got an image in my brain now of Caleb and keyleth dishing out spells, yasha and grog fist fighting, veth and vex shooting arrows and bolts, and talesin having another mental breakdown.
It'd be hilarious watching Sam switch from Veth to Tarry.

For real, Laura was INSANELY brilliant with Jester's positioning and use of duplicity there. She spent the majority of the fight being tucked away in her lil' gopher hole, out of most people's line of sight, all the while getting a bunch of solid hits in. Fantastic.

But here, it was a secret between Laura and Matt so the opposing team and the audience were genuinely taken aback by the fact that this wasn't actually Jester.

What I found really impressive about this fight was the way the Nein worked as a team to take down each VM member individually. Mollymaulk dispelling Scanlan was amazing. I wish he was on the field for longer. We only just got a taste of what he can do.
