Carnage - We Go Full Send On Our V8 Lexcen!

  • Our Toyota Lexcen wagon is a crazy sleeper and with it's turbocharged 1UZ-FE engine, it sounds amazing, but recent antics have us questioning whether it's hurt or not. So we put the Lexcen to the test and throw it back on the Maxx Performance dyno to see if it's actually hurt or not. The result may surprise you.
Street Machine Carnage is all about having fun with cars. Sometimes it's serious performance, sometimes it's crazy fun, but it always interesting and done on a budget.

This car is fast becoming my favourite of the Carnage fleet it's just a good all rounder with loads of practicality the best thing is the beast under a sleeper body....you can track it, pull some decent numbers, blow the doors of most street cars, daily it, do a tip run, go shopping basically it does everything a wagon with a tow ball can do and go chop your mates on a weekend. Cheers Scotty this is a great build.

Take note from Scotty kids. Working under a car without axle stands is like putting all you trust in a secondhand Franga. When it all goes wrong, only bad things happen and can last either your entire life or be the end of life.
Also Scotty, have you thought of porting the factory manifold a mm or two and smoothing out the hard edges and bends? That would have to help air flow.

I have the memory stuck in my head of my Dad back in the 70s. He was in the driveway working under the family AP6. He had the back of the car jacked up with the bumper jack trying to refit the exhaust ( Mum used to rip the exhaust off the car about once a month on the potholes in the road leading to our house). Luckily I was playing in the yard nearby on this day. I heard a loud bang as the car slammed down when it slipped off the jack and landed on top of Dad. Back then jack stands were not cheap and in every garage like they are today. Luckily he had the wheel that he had removed was under the rocker ( like I saw Scotty do in the video). So the car didn’t crush him just pinned him under. He had trouble breathing but was able to tell me to get Mum. She was then able to rejack the car and get him out. So after seeing that I will never get under a car without at least stands under it. If I’m changing a tire on the side of the road the flat will go under the rocker until the spare is fitted even though I don’t go under. It is one of my earliest memories and has scared me for life. NEVER EVER GO UNDER AN UNSUPPORTED CAR.

Can't hear anything nasty going on at the moment, no obvious fuming... I am really glad you exercised some self control and waited till you got back to the shop to address that tyre issue. I was worried you weren't going to. Zane got a much nicer power curve there by the end, but you seem to have hit some kind of power wall there, that's pretty obvious. Another great idea is to slip car ramps under the tyres. The huge footprint means the car will never slip off. I decided on this course of action when my transmission needed to be "levered" over with a bit of timber thanks to some poorly fabricated rod shop mounts. Gee, I wish they would get back to me about that but that's another story.

I've been doing it this way for years. And we know you can get your hands on a shifter or two. There's also no sharp metal edge to cut either tyres, fingers or both.

Yes jack stands. When I was 19 years old I learned that lesson and almost the hard way. I had a full size Chevy van jacked up by the diff to change the rear shocks with no jack stands. I rolled out from under it to get a different wrench and 3 seconds later the jack lost all hydraulic pressure and collapsed violently enough to bounce the van's suspension. Scared the s*** out of me. I always use jack stands ever since that day.

As Scotty said during the burnout centrifugal forces are at play, it tries to narrow the sidewall making the tyre grow in diameter. It is only after the burnout is done and centripetal forces come into play that you are likely to touch the sidewall to the guard. But you are actually far more likely to touch the guard on launch when the tyre bags up and the sidewall expands and the back of the car squats. That is the most likely time it will touch.

I think an interchiller would get you 200hp more but it might not need one. What do you think Scotty?🤔

Reducing temps won't gain 200hp, not at this power level. Maybe at 2500hp.
