    You are right about the pto lever should be down when not using pto and shift center trans lever to neutral never had an issue with thrust washers in engine The auxiliary pump for loader you need pto on to run the auxiliary pump not a big deal

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering about that pump. Since I don’t have an external valve I’ll just go ahead and put the block off plate on and delete it for now.

    Amazing how much rust can form inside an engine that is somewhat sealed against the elements, and coated with oil. I better go start some more tractors

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My neighbor had 3 tractors in his collection stick sitting inside his tractor building. I think he said it was only like 3 months at the most they sat without running. Doesn’t take long I suppose.

      A fresh engine will seize up faster than an old one that is all sludgey inside.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris all three that stuck were unrestored. One was an 18-27, another a very nice original Super 88 and the 3rd one was a 4 digit I believe.

    Looks good. There were/are a fair amount of those Fiat utilities (Long tractors too) around here, most of which are A/C colors with a few Oliver’s between. I never thought they we all that bad of a tractor. Watched every minute...👍

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I think they were pretty good little tractors but they got a bad rap because of the first two fiats that came before them.

    With copper washers and other type all copper seals if they are in decent shape I just run a propane torch over them and get them hot. When they cool they are soft. Copper work hardens so by softening them the work again as seal.

      That’s a great idea! I never thought of heating them first. I’ll have to try that sometime.

    Happy New Year Ross...thanks for the videos. I went and had a look at a 1365 today. It makes a bit of a grinding noise when the pto is engaged. I'm wondering if that could be just the clutch lever needing adjustment.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David! You might want to pull that inspection cover off the side and see if you can see anything going on in there. If it’s making a grinding noise maybe the throwout bearing has gone bad or some thing else inside. It would be worth checking out.

    What is the name of the music that is playing at the end of your video? I was in a peddler’s mall in Murray, Kentucky 2 booths had Oliver plow wrenches for sale and if you’re ever in Murray Kentucky, you might want to check the peddlers mall out to see if the wrenches are still there if you’re collecting them! I enjoy your videos!😊

    I’m curious of the diameter of them injectors. I got a duramax injector tool if they would be the same same diameter I’d send you the tool to pull them injectors if you wanted them out

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll have to check up on what size they are. Hopefully I don’t need to swap them right now so I’ll probably just leave them in the old head.

    That small reservoir in the fuel return side is designed to supply fuel to the thermostart. The thermostart is a great cold start aid. When the fuel system is primed fuel is supplied to the thermostart from the bottom of the reservoir. When system voltage is supplied to the thermostart it heats up and opens a valve to allow fuel to flow from the reservoir and it actually builds a fire in the intake manifold to heat the incoming air. If the thermostart valve is stuck or leaking it can cause excessive smoke when running, or it can hydraulic lock the engine if it leaks when the engine is shut down. So check it for leaking prior to installing the rubber hose on the intake.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s good to know. I might just buy a new heater instead of risking that.

    • @johnbender1596
      @johnbender1596 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That may be a good idea. I have seen Ford tractor engines that had a leaking thermostart cause a connecting rod to bend on startup.

    The preheat is like a Massy Ferguson CAV system. Injector Return diesel fills the little tank, inlets and outlets are at different levels line from bottom of tank goes to preheater. There is a little bi metallic spring valve when heated by coil opens and dumps fuel on hot coil creating hot diesel vapor to ease starting. They work good takes a good 20-30 seconds. Usally you can hear a slight pop or fizzle when fuel hits the hot coil.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figured I’d leave the hose off the intake and try it and see what exactly would happen. I did see that they sell them new so if this one doesn’t work I may get a different one.

    Fords used that type of heater too. Never liked that type of setup for the PTO on the JD next generation up through 55 series. They put pressure on the thrust bearings whenever PTO is engaged. That little guy is about to be back in service. Good job.

      Thanks John! They sell it at Harbor freight and I got some today at O’Reilly‘s. It’s supposed to be an environmentally safe rust remover. It actually does work I’ve used it before. It does leave a film behind though so you have to wash it right away with something else.

    Sure need those heaters on diesels in the cold! I was watching “Captain Kleeman” use a heat gun or it may have been his wife’s blow dryer can’t remember on the air intake of an old JD 555 backhoe he’s working on; Seemed to work pretty good. way that heater canister ( or what ever it is) looked I don’t know that I wouldn’t go through the fuel system from start to finish….. but as always I know you’ll give it the attention it deserves. Enjoying the build/ rebuild/ throwing old stuff together.

    On the fuel tank, throw a handful of nuts of all different sizes, in the fill opening and strap it to one of your chore tractor rear wheels. Put some fuel in if you can close it up, and drive it around for a while. It will act like a tumbler and clean the tank. Looking forward to next episode 👍🇺🇲

    Getting a little closer to getting the Oliver tractor running again nice that you had two motors to take some parts off of one to get it to work. Thanks Michael ☺️

    OK.. CAUTION ! Never trust HEARSAY about a motor or any used item. IF were doing this I would take the engine apart for a through inspection for proper factory specks .. CRANK ,CAM, BEARINGS , GEARS ,VALVE TRAIN PISTONS. IF EVERY THING CHECKS ALL YOU NEED IS GASKETS. AN ounce of prevention is worth more than ten pounds of cure. great videos. thanks.
