  • Received in January 2020, great affordable tig welder for aluminum and steel. Well worth the money, and performs outstanding. I left why using a 1/16th tungsten with a 17 torch head lets you weld much longer before the torch gets really hot with air cooled. Also I made an error as inert Teflon tape is carbon and fluorine.
In my other youtube video, I MIG (miller matic 140) weld a new floor tunnel in a 74 Barracuda to make room for a huge ZF 8 speed from a 2018 challenger.

I had a whole in my gas hose and realized that you can’t replace the hose with the setup the alphatig comes with. Your setup now allows me to replace just the hose.

For a quick fix you can always get a double ended plastic barb fitting at the hardware store too. 3/8 or 1/4" don't recall which size is best.

Lol You need to man up on your fingers. If tightening up a nut hurts your fingers maybe you should think about working at a desk 😝

The reason the stock torch doesn`t feel right, is because you are holding it wrong. Freeze the video at 11:06 and hold the torch as shown in the video......then rotate the torch 180 degrees so the knob is on the left and the torch head is on the right, then rotate the torch head downward.....I think you will find that it feels far better than the other way. Also, instead of turning the knob to tighten the torch head, just hold the knob still and rotate the torch head to tighten.....much easier!

Great review. I too recently bought the AHP 201. Have had great success both tig and stick. I’ve been looking for a new flex head torch. Really appreciate your diligence with the part numbers. Really happy with this machine.

Thank for the info on how to replace those torches. Regarding use of teflon tape... that appears to be a compression fitting. Compression fittings are designed to seal at two mating surface that are compressed together (not at the threads like a taper fitting), and do not benefit in any way from teflon tape. Also, PTFE being non-conductive, could even impede the electrical contact (although the threads will likely cut through the tape, if screwed down tight enough). These are not the same type fittings where the valve screws into the top of your cylinder (which I believe are typically taper gas thread- NGT). And definitely no need to use thread sealant where the regulator/flow meter screws into the tank valve, which is also a compression-type fitting. Anyhow, thanks for the info.

I happen to have the prime weld Tig 225x with a Max cool 3000 water cooler and I run the flex lock water cooled with 25 ft cables and I seem to like the flex lock. over the 17 flex head it's more convenient for me having series two head on it and also to the handle is smaller easier to handle. I originally ordered my torch with the number 20 and here I ended up getting the water cooled flex lock to go along with my air cold flex lock by CK. I never used a Nova roto lock to see the difference between the CK worldwide and the Nova.

Good ideas man. I like mine well enough but those damn knobs don't seem to let you adjust to a specific amp setting very easily. They always want to wander a bit when you turn it, at least on my machine.

The issue with this welder setup is the tig torch is a 17 torch which is only rated at 150 amps, but the machine is capable of 200 amps which will overload the torch and hose. The question should be, what effect will this have on the safety to the operator as well as will the warranty cover it when it fails. The unit should be supplied with a 26 size torch head and hose which is rated at 200 amps.

Anyone needing a torch bigger than a 17 and that many amps knows better than to use the supplied 17. Why supply a huge torch that’s not going to be used and make your customers go buy the smaller torches that they’ll actually use.

Does argon leak out of the SL2-35QD connector? The original dinse had no hole and the new connector does have a hole.

The hole is a drilled pocket that doesn't go through to anything. I haven't bubbled tested it, but there is no noticeable Argon flow on the regulator when not welding.

Maybe I missed something, but why didn't you just change the torch. Both are rated at 150 Amps. Why buy a new hose and dinse cinnector etc..?

You NEVER use thread tape on anything other than PIPE THREADS.
If it is a flare a compression fitting or any other type of threads other than pipe threads You never use any kind of thread tape. It’s a waste of time and it can cause trouble depending on which threads you put it on.

No thread sealer on any bevel hose fitting. The machined bevels do the sealing not the threads. NO THREAD SEALLER!
