Thank you. Great stuff! Highly appropriate to have this great young woman rising star play on International Women's Day. I loved the new tune No Fun At All (and yes it was an Out Of Nowhere contrafact!). Some interesting comments on strings and picks. I like the Rich Severson idea of light basses (20-48) with 13-15 tops. If you don't have a bendy thumb (I am too old and nothing bends except the bits that shouldn't!), try Jim Dunlop Primetone semi round 1.3s. Like mandolin picks, they give a mellow tone.... Thanks again, Jocelyn and band.

When I feel like I am struggling in the practice room, it is usually because I feel I am no longer progressing in terms of technique and improvisation. When this happens, I usually try to pick a tune I don't know from an album or a real book to learn, and then I don't feel so bad.

I think you *might* want to revisit your discussion about description of strings and the difference between roundwound and flatwound.
Except for the first two (or sometimes three) strings, which are not wound at all, but just single wires of different gauges, the "wound" strings have a central core that is either a round or hexagonal wire, that is wrapped by the other wire (roundwound), or wrapped by something more resembling a tape of metal. There are also "monel" strings that actually are roundwounds that are then shaved to external flatness (as you described flatwounds), but that is very different from flatwound, even if it feels similar (and Monels were developed first, before true flats).
I usually use TI Jazz Swing 12s flatwound on my archtops, though the 18-inch behemoth Levin Style A Deluxe gets TI George Benson 13 flat set.
To clarify one other thing, when you said you use "12s" on the lower four strings, and "13's" on the first two strings, you might want to clarify that you're referring to the strings from a 12 or 13 "set" (named for the first string) - but I get the idea of using the heavier set for the first two strings and the lighter set on the other four - Perhaps you might approach TI to get "signature" sets like that, in say, 12-47 or 13-50 - I would certainly be interested in Jocelyn Gould signature sets like that rather than buying two sets of not-inexpensive TI strings and then just discarding or giving away the unused strings.

I don't really have any in particular, I mostly learned from my teachers and from transcribing!

For even a nicer fatter smoother tone I use the reverse side of the pick...the side opposite the pointy side. Might want to check it out for the hell of it. Plus, there is more pick area to grab the string. Very interesting stuff. I'm enjoying your channel.
